Stayed for 3 nights during a Croft race weekend, with the other half and our dog. Mark n Lindsey were made us feel really welcome indeed. For anyone racing at Croft, this is a great location with great beers & great food. Definitely recommended.

Owners are very friendly, knowledgable and helpful, they went out of their way to make our stay perfect. They brought our dog its ownbed, blanket and bowl for the room which was a lovely touch. Breakfast was included which was delicious and we had dinner the night before which was equally good and a great size portion. The car park was a decent size and location very quiet.

A great traditional pub in a lovely location run by a super friendly couple. We stayed on a bike tour and were made extremely welcome. The bar had the best range of 4 real ales that I have seen for a long time and the food and breakfast was good and plentiful. Highly recommended.

Very comfortable room and peaceful atmosphere. Excellent range of well conditioned local ale in the bar. Lovely food and friendly staff. Will definitely stay again and pop in for food and drinks when passing the area.

Excellent venue with very friendly staff, excellent food and comfortable rooms. Dog friendly too with nearby off-road walks. Good base for visiting Richmond, Reeth and much more in this idyllic part of North Yorkshire.

Absolutely gorgeous location; it’s a bit off the main road but so beautiful on top of a hill in a small hamlet; lovely people and great food; great for dogs with nice areas to walk, we’ll definitely be back.

We booked in for one night as we were attending a friends wedding. Lovely welcome as we went in and shown to our room. Had a drink from the bar before the Taxi collected us & took us to the wedding venue. Breakfast was lovely and made to order. Would definitely stay again.

Great little village inn in a cracking part of the country. The view from the car park is wonderful. The landlord and landlady were really chatty and friendly. Tasty meals and a good-sized room. Can't fault it on any account.

A lovely country pub, with excellent, beautifully cooked food. The hosts are exceptionally helpful and friendly, and couldn’t do enough for us. Very dog friendly - we were able to have our Labrador with us when we ate in the bar. Bedroom quite small, but manageable. Situated in a really beautiful area, and within easy reach of Richmond, which is an interesting, historical town with lots to see and do.

Very dog friendly - we were able to have our Labrador with us when we ate in the bar. Bedroom quite small, but manageable. When we arrived the view from the Inn carpark was a picture postcard of rolling hills and valleys with sheep grazing nearby. Our Hosts were welcoming and had provided a water bowl and matt in our room for our dog molly as well as coffee and tea making facilities and an ample supply of toiletries and fluffy towels. We booked an evening Meal at the Inn, and I chose the homemade Ham Leak and Chicken pie with Mash, and my Wife had Tarragon Chicken. Both were cooked to perfection and generously portioned. A cooked full english breakfast was on offer then next morning from 9am and set us up for our onward journey. The only point to note is that if you are looking for early start, ensure you get your order in early as it took some time for our breakfast to be prepared, albeit worth waiting for!.

We had a good stay in a clean and quiet room (even with a storm outside). All staff were friendly and helpful. The young lady chef Lyndsey, had started our breakfast slightly earlier than usual to accommodate our travel plans, which was appreciated, as was the delicious cooked breakfast, good quality ingredients, well cooked and served on a hot plate - something many luxury hotels still do not do, so the food is cold in a short time.

I proprietari sono gentilissimi e disponibili, oltre che sorridenti e simpatici. Per le nostre abitudini il letto della stanza in cui eravamo era un po' piccolo ma comodo. Le dimensioni della stanza piuttosto ridotte ma c'è tutto quello che serve. Ottima dotazione di asciugamani e cuscini.

We received a very warm welcome and staff were friendly and attentive throughout our stay. Food was plentiful and a good variety. We were given were given a hearty breakfast. Bed was comfortable and location was quiet. The decoration was a bit tired and there was a need for some further plug points in the room so that you could use a hairdryer whilst standing by a mirror. The basin hot tap was loose as was the toilet seat.We did think that the room price was a bit high considering these points. All in all it was the owners that made it a pleasant stay.

We were made so welcome here. The hosts are absolutely fantastic and so friendly and welcoming. Room was clean and comfortable with everything we required. The food is absolutely delicious with huge portions! Easy travelling by car to Richmond and Middleham where we visited the castle for a Richard III weekend. Beautiful picturesque village location. We would definitely stay again the next time we’re in the area.

Amazing hosts very clean comfy rooms . Rooms are small but that's not a problem really. Food was amazing and plentifull in fact all 3 of us couldn't finish our evening meals there was just too much food on the plate !!! Not too pricey either so will definitely recommend to everyone.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Shoulder of Mutton. The owners couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. We had breakfast every day - fabulous! The room was very clean, albeit quite small. If you have mobility issues, the stairs may be a problem. Otherwise a beautiful, characterful place.

Size of room and shower/toilet area unbelievably small - hardly enough room around bed to place case and not sufficient space in bathroom to dry oneself properly. Better if breakfast could have been available a little earlier than 9 am. However, breakfast was very nice. Heaters turned on/off automatically - unfortunately they were off when we returned from evening meal and still off when we went down for breakfast at 9 am. Overall value for money was not the best given room size. On a positive note the evening meal was lovely, though this does not affect our rating for accommodation. Landlord was also very friendly.

Had a great weekend staying here. Owners and staff are lovely friendly people, happy to go the extra mile (like getting in black pudding for my husband's breakfast when it wasn't normally on the menu). Breakfast both morning was delicious, ditto both dinners. The onion rings are something special! Our room was small but comfortable and well appointed. Add to all this a lovely position in a quiet Dales village and I couldn't give less than full marks.

Food and service was excellent and very reasonably priced, staff helpful and friendly. Room was comfortable but could be a bit too cosy for anyone of larger build. En suite bathroom was definitely a bit of a squeeze.

We had a wonderful overnight stay. The room was comfortable and well equipped, and everybody was friendly and lovely. Dinner was delicious and so was the breakfast. Would definitely recommend and stay again. Thank you!

Mark and Lyndsay were the perfect hosts, couldn’t do enough for us and made our stay one to remember. Best bits, Lyndsay’s cooking, made up for Marks jokes 😂 Will stay again without doubt

We had a good stay in a clean and quiet room (even with a storm outside). All staff were friendly and helpful. The young lady chef Lyndsey, had started our breakfast slightly earlier than usual to accommodate our travel plans, which was appreciated, as was the delicious cooked breakfast, good quality ingredients, well cooked and served on a hot plate - something many luxury hotels still do not do, so the food is cold in a short time.
We had a good stay in a clean and quiet room (even with a storm outside). All staff were friendly and helpful. The young lady chef Lyndsey, had started our breakfast slightly earlier than usual to accommodate our travel plans, which was appreciated, as was the delicious cooked breakfast, good quality ingredients, well cooked and served on a hot plate - something many luxury hotels still do not do, so the food is cold in a short time.

In contact with the pub before told us we would miss out on an evening meal as we were arriving around 8pm, I asked for clarification on last orders for food, told 7.45. So we made other arrangements only to find they were still serving food to locals well after 8.30. Asked what time was breakfast told 9am, we needed to be away for 8 so he more or less said hard luck, didn’t offer any alternative as the Chef doesn’t start till 9. Fortunately for us the chef came over to us and offered come in early so we did manage to get some breakfast. Landlord was not friendly IMO

Mark and Lyndsay were excellent hosts. This was my favorite stay in England. The pub is situated in a small community and you could definitely feel that vibe. A local gentleman told us to wake up with the sunrise and it was well worth seeing it come up over the valley with the birds heading out for their day. The food was absolutely delicious (we had the pizza and breakfast the next morning.) I can’t recommend this place enough.

Lyndsey and Mark were brilliant for our stay, so friendly and gave tips on things to do in the area . We also had a dog with us and they were very accommodating. Lovely B and B, close to amenities but far enough away for some peace and quiet. Food is also lovely, we had breakfast and tea.

Very dog friendly - we were able to have our Labrador with us when we ate in the bar. Bedroom quite small, but manageable. Situated in a really beautiful area, and within easy reach of Richmond, which is an interesting, historical town with lots to see and do.

Stayed for 3 nights during a Croft race weekend, with the other half and our dog. Mark n Lindsey were made us feel really welcome indeed. For anyone racing at Croft, this is a great location with great beers & great food. Definitely recommended.

Excellent venue with very friendly staff, excellent food and comfortable rooms. Dog friendly too with nearby off-road walks. Good base for visiting Richmond, Reeth and much more in this idyllic part of North Yorkshire.

Absolutely gorgeous location; it’s a bit off the main road but so beautiful on top of a hill in a small hamlet; lovely people and great food; great for dogs with nice areas to walk, we’ll definitely be back.

We were made so welcome here. The hosts are absolutely fantastic and so friendly and welcoming. Room was clean and comfortable with everything we required. The food is absolutely delicious with huge portions! Easy travelling by car to Richmond and Middleham where we visited the castle for a Richard III weekend. Beautiful picturesque village location. We would definitely stay again the next time we’re in the area.

Great little village inn in a cracking part of the country. The view from the car park is wonderful. The landlord and landlady were really chatty and friendly. Tasty meals and a good-sized room. Can't fault it on any account.

What a lovely couple who run the Shoulder of Mutton. Making the stay an experience to remember. Huge range of delicious home cooked food, top breakfast, very comfy room, Haribos left out for the kids! Great.

A great traditional pub in a lovely location run by a super friendly couple. We stayed on a bike tour and were made extremely welcome. The bar had the best range of 4 real ales that I have seen for a long time and the food and breakfast was good and plentiful. Highly recommended.

Food and service was excellent and very reasonably priced, staff helpful and friendly. Room was comfortable but could be a bit too cosy for anyone of larger build. En suite bathroom was definitely a bit of a squeeze.

We had a wonderful overnight stay. The room was comfortable and well equipped, and everybody was friendly and lovely. Dinner was delicious and so was the breakfast. Would definitely recommend and stay again. Thank you!

Amazing hosts very clean comfy rooms . Rooms are small but that's not a problem really. Food was amazing and plentifull in fact all 3 of us couldn't finish our evening meals there was just too much food on the plate !!! Not too pricey either so will definitely recommend to everyone.

When we arrived the view from the Inn carpark was a picture postcard of rolling hills and valleys with sheep grazing nearby. Our Hosts were welcoming and had provided a water bowl and matt in our room for our dog molly as well as coffee and tea making facilities and an ample supply of toiletries and fluffy towels. We booked an evening Meal at the Inn, and I chose the homemade Ham Leak and Chicken pie with Mash, and my Wife had Tarragon Chicken. Both were cooked to perfection and generously portioned. A cooked full english breakfast was on offer then next morning from 9am and set us up for our onward journey. The only point to note is that if you are looking for early start, ensure you get your order in early as it took some time for our breakfast to be prepared, albeit worth waiting for!.

Very warm welcome from Mark & Lyndsay. Our room was well equipped and comfortable with a fabulous view over the countryside. We ate lunch there which was excellent & had a good breakfast the following morning. Really quiet location with great road links to the A1 & A66. Highly recommended.

The couple that are the land lords are so helpful ,friendly accommodating. The food was fabulous very fresh produce the breakfast was amazing. The bedding was crisp white bedding and the towels were so fluffy . Parking was great and the little hamlet was so peaceful and the veiws were amazing. Very busy when we got there at around 4.30 pm Sunday afternoon. The food stopped serving at 6pm . Everyone was so friendly in the pub .

There is plentiful parking and The Shoulder of Mutton appears to be very popular with the local population. We were upgraded to the annexe which is a real home from home. We had a living room, a bedroom, a small kitchen (containing a microwave oven) and a toilet/bathroom/shower. Kirby Hill is a tiny, quiet village with great views down to Ravensworth village and castle ruins and is only four or five miles from Richmond. Lyndsay's cooking is very special and we both enjoyed the breakfasts and dinners we ate there. This was my third visit, so that should tell you everything about how highly we think of The Shoulder of Mutton Inn!

We thoroughly enjoyed an overnight stay at the Shoulder of Mutton in the ancient and picturesque hamlet of Kirby Hill. A warm welcome and really helpful approach of the team, a bed for our little dog (check when booking which rooms are dog friendly), tasty, well cooked food in the friendly bar, plus a comfortable bed and decent shower. Excellent value for money and just four miles off the A66 but a world apart from the traffic far below the hill on which the pub stands. Don’t miss the opportunity to stay if you’re looking for a convenient stop on your north/south journey.
