The hotel was shabby. There was no heating when we arrived, a coal fire in bar. Our room had no working radiators. Bathroom was freezing. Two oil filled portable radiators were in room, tripping hazard. One window pane didn't fit so space wafted cold air in. We stuffed it with toilet paper. Carpet by door not fitted correctly, trip hazard. We mentioned above to lady on duty Saturday evening. She didn't seem interested other than saying radiators aren't working upstairs. Breakfast room was cold. First day not even a fire in the huge room which was very grim, huge and shabby. We were servd by the owner wearing a long padded duvet coat! Our breakfast was fine but quickly became cold. The second morning the fire was lit but you needed to stand over the fire to feel warm. We were served again by owner in her duvet coat. Coffee cold within two minutes. No apology was made for lack of heating, especially in bathroom. We resorted to placing oil heater to warm it up, fire hazard?. We then couldn't close the bathroom door and also had another tripping hazard. I tried to use the bath but the water was taking so long to heat up I gave up. So much water was being wasted. There was no comfortable place to sit in the room which was barely big enough for the double bed. In the bar there were only wooden chairs and a bench. No area where you could sit comfortably and perhaps read. Admittedly we were in the hotel during a seriously cold snap but that is no excuse for not informing us. Sad.

a lovely place to stay, room great, staff great, beer great, food excellent, and in a beautiful area. Breakfast in particular was superb. Very good for walkers on the coast to coast trail. Hope to go again.

Nice on the outside, dark dining room with stuffed animal heads all round the walls off putting. Basic room , had a good shower. Slow service on food in garden 45 minutes for a sandwich & cup of tea.

The staff are very friendly, the bar area and dining areas are cosy and welcoming, and the cooked breakfast was very good. There was a good variety of food served in the evening. The variety of drinks at the bar was good too. The hotel is a historic building and so the rooms are quirky. There is a pleasant green with tables in front of the building and good free parking. We stayed at a time when there was exceptionally cold weather and our room was cold. We slept fully clothed. The breakfast room was cold too, so that guests dined wearing coats. We therefore cut our stay from two nights to one. I am sure that our experience would have been better in the summer.

This was a great hotel, in that it was old, and rustic in a good way. Lovely setting by a brook. The food was excellent. Good friendly bar area. Open fire, very dog friendly. The beds and bed limen and showers were very clean and comfortable. Just bits of dust on the skirting and a bit tired in places. Rooms had tea and coffee and a welcoming snack for both people and their pet friends Would definitely stay again .

Room decor was tired and not very clean. Bed was uncomfortable and pillows were old. Food was ok We booked for 2 nights New Years Eve, and New Years Day but only stayed one night. After being out all day walking on New Years Day, on our return at 4pm we were told the bar would be shut and there would be no food! Really poor management of the business and poor communication. Such a shame as the location was lovely and this pub could be a real gem.

This is not a very good place to stay. Has seen better days and is now being run as a way to make money for renovations I assume, or just to run it into the ground. Could use a significant makeover or lower prices. The worst place we stayed on the Coast to Coast. Only saving grace was the food was OK, not amazing, just OK. Service was poor mainly due to being understaffed I think.

Looks amazing in the pictures but room full of damp mould and wallpaper hanging off had to close the curtains real slow as they were hanging off room not clean found an empty chocolate wrapper on the floor and what looked like a pain killer probably needed because the mattress was so thin and springs could be felt everywhere the wife could even squeeze flat the mattress with her hands very uncomfortable nights sleep only to be kept awake by the noise of the pub ear plugs were supplied ready then woke up at bang on 6am by the cockerls crowing drinks were okay evening meal was pretty poor with the waiter hovering over us trying to hurry us to order breakfast was the best thing and the waitress was nice I would add photos but the app won't let me upload them

Keeping in mind the room rate it was ok. Craig and staff were very pleasant and helpful. Food was excellent. Room was a bit tired and could do with a spring clean.

The building looks really lovely and we stayed for a night. The evening meal was fine. However the room was very poor. Very grubby with skirting boards that hadn't been cleaned for ages and an electric oil heater that was filthy. The mattresses were worn out and the pillows and bedding had all seen better days. The wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling off and the shower was only lukewarm with the door missing. The breakfast was good but we had to wait a long time.

The hotel is beautiful and extremely well appointed with an excellent restaurant at very reasonable prices. It is definitely not pub grub but quality food and service. I would recommend to anyone especially if you have dogs as it is dog friendly. If i could find something to moan about it would be that the single bed was a little narrow for my taste but it wont stop me from staying there again i will just ask for a double bed

We arrived just as food was about yo sop being served. I'd rung ahead to advise them and this was no problem. The meal was delicious and well presented however the potions were huge. We had booked Room 3 (superior double) and were not disappointed. The bed was huge (joined twins) and very comfy. The walls were thin however ear plugs were provided for light sleepers. We had everything we needed and more (including a bedtime snack). Breakfast was included and again it was plentiful. In addition to the cooked menu, there was a cold buffet inclding fresh fruit, honeycombe, smoked salmon and a range of preserves. It is very clear that the people here take a pride in everything they do. This property has a real old world country charm, including several examples of taxidermy in both dining rooms. We loved our night here and will definitely be back.

There was no comfortable place to sit in the room which was barely big enough for the double bed. In the bar there were only wooden chairs and a bench. No area where you could sit comfortably and perhaps read. Admittedly we were in the hotel during a seriously cold snap but that is no excuse for not informing us. Sad.

The staff are very friendly, the bar area and dining areas are cosy and welcoming, and the cooked breakfast was very good. There was a good variety of food served in the evening. The variety of drinks at the bar was good too. The hotel is a historic building and so the rooms are quirky. There is a pleasant green with tables in front of the building and good free parking. We stayed at a time when there was exceptionally cold weather and our room was cold. We slept fully clothed. The breakfast room was cold too, so that guests dined wearing coats. We therefore cut our stay from two nights to one. I am sure that our experience would have been better in the summer.

This is not a very good place to stay. Has seen better days and is now being run as a way to make money for renovations I assume, or just to run it into the ground. Could use a significant makeover or lower prices. The worst place we stayed on the Coast to Coast. Only saving grace was the food was OK, not amazing, just OK. Service was poor mainly due to being understaffed I think.

The New Owner and Manager knows customer service and is a great cook too. Apologies, didn't get her name. Both our dinner and breakfast meals were delicious. We wish her well in her new adventure and we're sure the hotel/pub will continue to thrive in her hands.

The hotel was shabby. There was no heating when we arrived, a coal fire in bar. Our room had no working radiators. Bathroom was freezing. Two oil filled portable radiators were in room, tripping hazard. One window pane didn't fit so space wafted cold air in. We stuffed it with toilet paper. Carpet by door not fitted correctly, trip hazard. We mentioned above to lady on duty Saturday evening. She didn't seem interested other than saying radiators aren't working upstairs. Breakfast room was cold. First day not even a fire in the huge room which was very grim, huge and shabby. We were servd by the owner wearing a long padded duvet coat! Booked here last minute for an impromptu night away and had an amazing time. The Horseshoe Hotel is so cosy and peaceful, it was ideal for a relaxing break. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming and were always on hand to provide assistance. We had our evening meal and breakfast here and the food was delicious, and the portions were very generous.

Nice on the outside, dark dining room with stuffed animal heads all round the walls off putting. Basic room , had a good shower. Slow service on food in garden 45 minutes for a sandwich & cup of tea.

This was a great hotel, in that it was old, and rustic in a good way. Lovely setting by a brook. The food was excellent. Good friendly bar area. Open fire, very dog friendly. The beds and bed limen and showers were very clean and comfortable. Just bits of dust on the skirting and a bit tired in places. The hotel is beautiful and extremely well appointed with an excellent restaurant at very reasonable prices. It is definitely not pub grub but quality food and service. I would recommend to anyone especially if you have dogs as it is dog friendly. If i could find something to moan about it would be that the single bed was a little narrow for my taste but it wont stop me from staying there again i will just ask for a double bed

We arrived just as food was about yo sop being served. I'd rung ahead to advise them and this was no problem. The meal was delicious and well presented however the potions were huge. We had booked Room 3 (superior double) and were not disappointed. The bed was huge (joined twins) and very comfy. The walls were thin however ear plugs were provided for light sleepers. We had everything we needed and more (including a bedtime snack). Breakfast was included and again it was plentiful. In addition to the cooked menu, there was a cold buffet inclding fresh fruit, honeycombe, smoked salmon and a range of preserves. It is very clear that the people here take a pride in everything they do. This property has a real old world country charm, including several examples of taxidermy in both dining rooms. We loved our night here and will definitely be back.

Very grubby with skirting boards that hadn't been cleaned for ages and an electric oil heater that was filthy. The mattresses were worn out and the pillows and bedding had all seen better days. The wallpaper in the bathroom was peeling off and the shower was only lukewarm with the door missing. The breakfast was good but we had to wait a long time.
The building looks really lovely and we stayed for a night. The evening meal was fine. However the room was very poor.
