Canal Loft Hotel

I received and email at 4:06pm telling me that I should check in to a different hotel they fixed for me coz theres no available room. Check in was at 3pm and they sent me the mail at 4pm. Go figure. Their restroom reeks the smell of mold. Their elevator doesnt work when going down.

Room was spacious. Facilities in room were better than I anticipated, except the fridge didn’t work. Found hair clips and bits of fluff on floor, so doubt it was vacuumed before my arrival. Slowest elevator ever and I noticed it was last inspected in 2020. Overall I would say better than a lot of rooms in the price range.

I’m not sure why the bad ratings. We thought the place was clean. Staff was friendly enough. Decent location. The only thing is they do have luggage storage but if it’s crowded you might have to leave your bags in an unattended area of the lobby. Otherwise we would definitely stay here again.

Great budget property in the heart of Chinatown. Bustling neighborhood with lots of life! Our view overlooked Canal St and the windows really did against street noise. You can hear neighbors in the hallway, though not a big deal for us. Clean accommodations with modest amenities, but the ac worked really well, there’s storage and a mini fridge, and the rooms are very spacious for downtown. Staff was very helpful and hospitable. Free wifi and security code to enter building for off-hours.

We arrived at the hotel 2 hours before the check-in time. If you need to check-in early, you will need to pay extra $37 on top of the daily service fees. If you want to leave the luggages at the “front desk”, it will be right in front of the front desk and guest walking hallway. Due to this condition, we decided to paid the extra $37. Overall, the room is clean but it looked slightly different from the pictures provided by hotel.com. If you are looking for any extra towels and pillows, you are most likely aren’t getting it! Basically, the price you paid reflects what you get.

The entry is located next door to a storage facility and you have to dodge machinery, unloading and loading merchandise. It was not worth the money.

Cons: Area around the hotel is extremely unkempt. Staff took 5 minutes to check us in. Staff charged us for the remaining balance of the hotel after the balance was paid online, elevator was extremely slow. Pros: Cheap, running HVAC, clean room

I flew in on a red eye and needed to rest desperately before I had to make a film screening later in the day… the front desk woman was quite friendly and accommodating - I paid an extra fee so I could check in a few hours beforehand. The room itself was clean, and bed was comfortable. The lamp next to the bed wasn’t working but I didn’t stay in the room for long, so I didn’t mind. I stayed on the 4th floor and it was quiet … there are some other buildings that can see into the room if you have the lights on and blinds open (like any apartment in Manhattan facing other buildings) so maybe just don’t walk around naked with the blinds open. I was worried from many of the other rooms that it was going to be really gross or dirty but i am pleased to report my room was clean and I’m very satisfied with the price, location and quality. It’s not fancy so if you need a no frills central place, definitely consider it. Bathroom was clean and towels were fresh and white. They do hold luggage, but it’s not hidden in a back room.. it’s kinda just a makeshift holding area behind the front desk.. so if you’ve got expensive valuables.. maybe consider using a service like BOUNCE to hold your luggage. Also, I took the subway from JFK to the hotel, and it was about an hour commute… and a very easy walk once I exited. Tons of food options nearby.. and I had to go to Tribeca so about a 15 minute walk. A- rating! Thank you!

Pretty sure they had a card skimmer, never used my card anywhere before here. I used it for incidentals here and a few days later was charged $200 on amazon. Dirty hotel, almost got stuck in the elevator, hair in the bathroom, friendly staff however, but I will not be returning ever. This place is a robbery.

This hotel was nothing like what was shown online. The moment I entered, I was hit by an overpowering smell that set the tone for the rest of my stay. The room was in poor condition—there were noticeable stains all over the carpet, and the walls had several patched holes that hadn't been painted over. The bathroom was especially disappointing. I was provided with less than a quarter roll of toilet paper—maybe 15 squares—and the bathtub had so many marks and stains that I questioned whether it was actually clean. Despite advertising 24-hour reception, when I left in the morning, there was only a note left at the desk with a phone number to call if we had issues. This means anyone from the street could have walked in unchecked, which made me feel unsafe. I ended up staying just one night and had to go back and forth between the manager and the booking site to get a refund. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

The rooms are bigger than the typical NYC hotel within the same price range. Close to transportation —train- buses. The lobby always has a raw food/meat smell but if you bypass that, it will be a decent stay.

The shower was constantly dripping, there is not a light in the bedroom area, other people’s hair still on the bed, there wasn’t a tv remote in the room (staff resolved this issue) but most importantly there was BLACK MOLD all over the bathroom and shower. $160 a night to stay in a room with black mold and hair on the bed. DO NOT STAY HERE

The bed was very comfortable and the front desk staff was very nice. I was surprised to find no hangers, and only one small, broken drawer in the very small, IKEA style armoire. Two of the four light above the bathroom mirror were out & there was a cockroach in the bathroom. For the price, in NYC, it could have been worse. There was an aggressive panhandler Saturday morning at 6:15am that was a bit scary.

Not great but not terrible either. It's the kind of place you want to stay at when you want something cost effective at the expense of some of the amenities of most other hotels. The room was clean, although the carpet was sus (I recommend bringing house shoes), and the lobby smelled like cat food, but I bet there was no cat. I'm willing to bet that there's folks there who rent monthly, it looks like renovated apartment units. That being said, the proce was right, and I was close to everything I came back to the city for. If you want luxury, this isnt it. If you want a bed, Roku TV and a door that locks, you'll definitely find that here.

I needed a cheap place to stay in NYC and this was just about the only option under $300 that didn't have shared bathrooms (and even some of the shared bathroom options were over $300). The hotel itself is in pretty bad condition -- lots of furniture in need of replacement -- but the bed itself was clean and very comfortable. Hotel did not feel unsafe. Many rooms face Canal St. so definitely pack ear plugs.

There were marks on the wall that had been filled but not painted. No bedside tables, just an office chair and 2 plastic stools ?! Grubby looking hotel, certainlt NOT like the photos. Good job it was1 night. Wouldnt book again Chinatown has gone downhill ! Very dirty area.

Not for light sleepers.

The hotel is in a very convenient location, there are many places to walk nearby. The renovation is not very fresh, dirty spots on the carpet, bedding and towels. Very noisy, you can hear everything that happens on the street. If you just came to walk and see the city, then this is a normal option.

Good value for money! Most other places at this price point have shared bathrooms so I would say if you're not finicky this is a good bet. Beds are extremely short, I'm 5'1 and was comfortable but anyone taller may have issues. Staff seems to be dedicated/hardworking but property owners are clearly cheaping out on maintenance, I had a charred, blown out outlet in my room that was capped instead of spending the $5 to fix it.

Twin bed was comfortable and the A/C was nice and cold!

The room was a pretty good size for two people. It was clean and had a nice view of the street to see all the action of the local people who live and work there. The location was nice to see all the sights of China town and little Italy. I would stay here again passing through on other adventures. Staff was very nice and helpful. This is not a big fancy hotel so if you are someone who cannot over look a few impressions, you may not want to stay, but I enjoyed it.

The room was small, and missing basic features such as a phone, full length mirror and a good chunk of the outlets didnt work. We had to get our key card rekeyed everytime we left, and the toilet ran the entire we were there. When we brought it up to the front desk, they suggested we turn the water off if it was too loud when sleeping.

Great location and value but it was disappointing that there was not someone at the front desk during checkout and at various times throughout each day. When I called to ask if I could drop off my bags before check in and was told that I could. However, it was not explained that there would be no space for them except behind the front desk, which was not monitored therefore leaving our bags out in the open and unsafe.

Reception staff member was inattentive on arrival, more interested in his (her?) chatting on the phone to a friend, than in checking us in. Could not accept a digital card payment. Could not provide a receipt for our credit card payment until checkout. Claimed company policy. At 1am we were woken by the same staff member and its friend talking and laughing loudly outside our room in the corridor. We suggest this employee be moved on. He/she is no good for business!! Facilities in the room were OK, but basic. Local area in which hotel is located is filthy.

Staff did not follow through on their commitments to us. We told them via a phone call that we were arriving very late because of a flight cancellation. They sold out room to another person and it was not available when we arrived. They made no effort to correct this.

It was fine but the guy wouldn’t give me a receipt because I paid in cash and then there was no one there when I went to check out and get my cash deposit back. The cleaning staff was trying to help but like, come on. Ladies, bring conditioner.

The receptionist was not helpful at all and often times rude. The front door was locked on occasion. The entire hotel lobby, corridor, and rooms smelled of an odor that got my stomach sick. The hotel is near public transportation routes and the area is safe. It's also a few minutes walk away from several different restaurants, but there are only a few places nearby to get coffee and breakfast. There is a permanent stench in the air that permeates your clothes from the garbage on the streets around the hotel. The lady who works the front desk during the day always had headphones in and took forever to notice that we were standing in front of her with a question. She never smiled and gave quick, one-word answers to our questions and acted annoyed that we had interrupted her watching whatever she was watching on her phone.

I hate giving bad reviews but this was a super negative experience. Super predatory to not make it EXTREMELY clear that I needed to pay both a $100 deposit and another $113 in taxes in addition to the $600 I paid for three nights in a run-down room. I know they can't control high city taxes being collected and I'm disappointed with Hotels.com for not being super clear when I checked in, but you can still be basically courteous and kind. The gentleman at the front desk was extremely rude about the surprise payments when I arrived at 9 pm on a Wednesday. The other folks working behind the desk at other times were lovely though. From a quality perspective, the elevator was also so slow to open when you got to your floor that I legit thought it was stuck multiple times. Also, the room was super small, the headboard had tears and scratches in it, the A/C was super loud, and the bathroom fan didn't help de-fog the mirror, so I had to use a blow dryer on cool to de-fog it after waiting for 10 minutes with the fan on. I didn't expect it to be fancy but I didn't expect it to be so ratty and wildly overpriced. If you have enough money to afford this place, you can likely find somewhere much nicer.

Subway is only 6 minutes walking and your super close to little Italy and the bus that takes you to World Trade Center

I enjoyed my stay. The staff was very kind. The hotel was clean, large room with a good heating unit and a comfortable bed and bath, within walking distance of tasty shops and subway access. I'd stay again.

You get what you pay for. For what I needed, this hotel suited my needs. It was conveniently located to transit stops. No frills.

Very good value. Was a bit worried it would be a bit of a dive due to how much cheaper it is than most Manhattan Hotels, however I was pleasantly surprised. Good sized room which was clean and comfortable. Only criticism would be the mattress needs replaced as it's much softer in the middle than the edges, but that's a bit of a "first world problem". Location wasnt great but on the plus side there were two subway stations within a 5 minute walk
