Grand Central Hotel Belfast

This is a lovely hotel, very comfortable and a great base for your trip to Belfast. No gym or pool, but reception will provide a pass to a local gym just a few minutes away, which I availed of and which had a good range of equipment. Disappointed to still see small plastic bottles of product in rooms, when so many other hotels have introduced more sustainable options. Otherwise excellent.

The hotel was impressive but lacked character. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were on the seventeenth floor and found the lifts to be frustrating - we would press the button to call them and one lift would move in our direction only to go to another floor while the other lifts remained immobile.

Queuing/waiting for roof top bar - not good

We were not allowed in the Observatory bar as my husband was wearing shorts. Considering this was one of the hottest days of the year and we were hotel residents, i think this was an unacceptable way to treat a lot of male guests.

Bar area freezing, closed early, nowhere to get a drink after 11.30pm

The front desk checkin was great, but after that it all went a bit down hill in the top floor bar. The staff were totally unprepared and uncoordinated. The drinks we ordered twice were changed as there wasn’t any left… for the “premier” place to stay not having a basic scotch like Macallan is pretty poor… then having finally chosen drinks available they arrived 25mins later.

Fabulous hotel. Great central location. Very comfortable and clean. Climate control worked really well. We couldn’t find any car park for the hotel but there are city car parks nearby.

Good central location. As long as you have time on your hands to wait around. Service was a let down. Long wait and queue at check in, again, staff friendly and apologetic. Then another 15 minute wait for the Observatory which wasn't particularly busy when we got access then, approx another 15-20 minutes to take our order and finally get a beverage. Expected service levels to be a premium standard left a little deflated. The property itself and cleanliness no complaints, the staff individually very pleasant.

Everything great - lovely hotel & will deffo come again if in Belfast. The rooftop bar has some amazing views too !!

The decoration of the property. All communal areas were very clean.

As always, the room was beautifully clean and comfortable and the staff very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was very good, and we'll definitely return.

Hotel was lovely and clean

Room cleanliness was very poor with hairs in the bathroom. First room we were checked into hadnt been serviced and used then we moved after calling reception and they asking would I like to be moved !

Very centrally located, great venue, staff very helpful and rooms well equipped and very comfortable. One thing though, an upgrade to a city view room may not be worth the extra if you end up with the view of the back of an office block… but then that’s the view of the city.

My wife and I booked a night at the hotel as I we were going to a gig. On arrival at 13:30 our room was not ready the receptionist said we could leave our bags and come back which was nice. At 14:30 we returned and our room was ready. Check in was quick and easy even though there was a few people in front of us. We were upgraded to a Deluxe room 1710 which was great. When we got to our room the view was great the building next to the hotel is an office block so for privacy we had to close the curtains the view from the other side of the building overlooking city hall would be nicer. There was a slight stain on the carpet which was minor but unexpected. The room had a lovely bathroom with a shower and a bath and great toiletries. The furniture in the room were all matching and of a good quality as expected. The bed was massive but the base was 2 single beds joined and the matress was 2 single mattresses covered with a king-size sheet this meant that there was a rigid were the 2 mattresses met I am not sure this was 5 star luxury. In the corner of the room there was a door were the plumbing ran so you could hear water running. AC stopped during the night so room hot. Overall, a nice stay in a large spacious room with a good bathroom. I paid £162 for a standard kingsize room and I feel that even with the upgrade this was about the right price. I have stayed in many hotels in Belfast, and the Grand Central was good but not outstanding as I expected from a 5 star establishment.

Room had a strong smell of bleach, letting you know that it had been deep cleaned but off putting. In evening and morning the shower and taps only provided lukewarm water that was just about manegable for a quick shower, so unfortunately unable to use the bath for some relaxation. Shower was also a poor design as the water was leaking out through the door and the entire bathroom floor saturated.

Amazing room and amazing hotel. We were in room 2005 (20th floor) and the views were better than I imagined. The room was very clean and beautifully presented. Will definitely return

AWFUL NIGHTS SLEEP. Hotel is great, staff are great, room was really nice, the bed and pillows were fantastic, really comfortable however there was a locked door in the corner of the room and behind it appeared to be all the pipework and down pipes for all the 14 floors above us. This door was door feet from the bed. So every time someone flushed a toilet, washed their hands, had a shower or ran a tap, we heard it rushing down past our room. So we had an awful night's sleep. We mentioned to the staff as we checked out and they appeared to well aware of this problem. They gave a half assed apology and sent us on our way. Honestly don't think I'd stay again. Had a better night's sleep at a Premier Inn.

Lovely hotel but hot 5 star. Check in and out was slow. Only one person on reception for check out. No fridge in the room. No coffee machine. Beautiful building and lovely rooms but a good 4 star - not 5 star

typical room so you're paying for location and it is centrally located. observatory bar just ok, no coffee maker in room, just hot water & instant. no fridge in room. bath ok size but shower really small

Too many light switches, small shower, mattress was a bit lumpy.

Check-in was slow despite the fact that there were no other customers in the reception area. We were then assigned to a room, only to find that it was occupied, with clothes all over the bed and open suitcases. Thankfully, there was nobody in the room! Returned to reception for another long wait and we were assigned another room (that was excellent) and given a voucher for complimentary cocktails at The Observatory Bar - cocktails that we were then asked to pay for on two different occasions (one at the bar, one at check-out)! Following our stay, we then found out that a bottle of bubbly that had been purchased for us by a family member (a surprise) had been sent to the original room… but never moved to the new one, so we were not aware of it until disappointed family member was told the tale! Whoever was in the original room didn’t report the bubbly to reception, or they did and reception didn’t action it. Who knows. Now, the cost of said bubbly was refunded following a call and the Front of House manager also offered to assist with any future bookings in order to offer “the best deals” and this was appreciated… but for a hotel with such a reputation, these cluster of mistakes should not have happened in the first place, especially the debacle with the room. Very, very grateful that there were no guests in that room when we walked in and that we could beat a hasty repeat leaving them unaware of the brief disturbance!

I was looking forward to staying at the Grand Central Hotel based on the previous reviews but overall for a 5 star hotel I was left quite disappointed. Check in was quite slow but staff were friendly and as I arrived at 3pm it was peak checking in time. The room was disappointing, there were very few amenities- sachets of Nescafé Original Coffee and one Biscoff per guest doesn’t scream 5 star, I’ve stayed in 4 star hotels that offered better amenities for guests. No fridge or mini bar and I had to step over an abandoned hoover to get into my room upon arrival. The shower sprayed water at all angles and when I wiped the shower head lots of black mildew specks came off. There was no TV remote in room and it took me x4 attempts and 45 minutes to get someone on reception to answer my call. Breakfast was lovely and again the general areas of the hotel were beautiful but I just felt underwhelmed by the room amenities. Bed was very comfy though and location ideal for a city stay. In my opinion I don’t think I would stay again there are other hotels in Belfast offering better for your money.

I was really disappointed with the Grand Central. I normally stay in the Europa but thought I’d treat myself and try out this hotel. Wrong decision! Firstly the queue for check in was nothing I have ever experienced at a hotel before. It took 45 mins. When we got to check in which was 70mins after the official check in time, we were told our room was not ready and to take a seat for 10mins. I refused to accept this given the delay has already messed up my afternoon plans. They did get us sorted in around 5mins. The lifts were really I was really disappointed with the Grand Central. Service was really poor. Everything else was good. But it was hard to look past and I wouldn't stay again unfortunately.

Very friendly staff and very central in Belfast City Centre

Excellent location, professional and courteous staff, beautifully designed hotel, clean and spacious bedroom and bathroom. We really enjoyed our stay.

On arrival the queue at checkin took 20mins. No information was provided by staff about food or hotel facilities. On arrival at the room there was a large pink stain on the carpet, stains on the pillow case and confetti on the floor at the side if the bed. Breakfast was a joke. They ran out of glasses for juice and i asked 4 members of staff when eventually a member brought 2 glasses when there was a queue of people waiting. They forgot my tea and the milk jugs were on the table empty which you had to fill yourself. I then got my hot breakfast and toast but there was no butter so asked but had to wait 5 minutes for it by which time my breakfast was cold. There was no organisation of staff at all, i understand it was busy but standards of a hotel should not fall because of this. I was highly disappointed with my stay.

I arrived at around 9pm and wanted room service. Despite telephoning numerous times, there was no reply. I went to bed hungry!

It was our first time staying at this hotel, from check in to breakfast the service was amazing. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. We had upgrade our room using the special add ins and the room we had was spacious and had a wonderful view of the city and harbor. Breakfast had great options including eggs made to our taste. We had drinks at the observatory and it was a relaxing time on the top most floor of the hotel.

Comfortable clean hotel room , breakfast area a bit cramp otherwise good to stay and easy access to all areas in Belfast.

Very nice hotel in the center of Belfast. The bus from Dublin dropped us off two blocks from the hotel, which was also very convenient to several great restaurants and pubs. The hotel was very nice and the staff very helpful. I would recommend it to anyone. My only gripe (kind of a pet peeve that I see a lot in Europe) is that there is no “blanket option” on the bed. It’s either just a top sheet (so glad they had that!) or a comforter, which is way too hot for me. Personal problem, I guess.

Only complaint was noise from the neighbouring Perch bar / club 10-2am Stayed numerous times before fantastic hotel, very clean and service is excellent and lovely cocktails and view in the observatory bar, this wouldn’t put us off staying again but was an inconvenient one off

Close to city centre, relaxed- attention to detail and very comfortable surroundings. Observatory bar with table service had fab views !

Very central location. Easy to walk to shopping areas and other downtown sites. We took both a walking tour and used the hop on hop off bus which were easy to walk to. While the breakfast was fine the toaster was hit and miss - either burnt the toast or didn’t brown it enough and there were not a lot of varied fruits to choose from. Also found the small bread rolls rather hard. The evening meals we had were very good.

Pity about shower door letting out water onto the beautiful tiled floor .. room fabulous and staff very friendly…. Checkin a nightmare… on arrival we spent 20 mins waiting to be told room not ready left bags n came back after 4:30pm to another queue to get key to room… breakfast area was great staff lovely but breakfast disappointing as sausages under cooked eggs n bacon tepid and tea could have been warmer…

The only thing I could fault was the price of drinks

1 nights stay for a birthday treat along with a beautiful evening meal and breakfast. Everything was fantastic from the room to the food and service. Have done 2 tea days previously in the Observatory so we were glad to finally be able to stay for the night.

The food service in the restaurant was horrible. While the fodd was very good and the restaurant are was nice the service was almost nonexistent. After being seated we waited about 10 to 15 minutes and finally had to flag someone down to take our orders , we had to ask for water 3 times, they got my wifes order wrong, we had to ask for bread twice and then they charged us fo 2 servings, no one ever came by on thier own we always had to get someones attention, then it took another lengthy wait just to pay the bill. The overall stay at the hotel was very good and the service, other than the restaurant was excellent.

Had a lovely short break in the hotel. Bedroom was really good, bed comfortable, decor not brown. A bit of long term ceiling damage in the bathroom which should have been repaired. Day 1 breakfast was great, day 2 was a disorganised mess. No glasses for orange juice, no milk for cereal, put at a table outside the main restaurant between 2 tables heaped with dirty dishes, had to ask for tea and coffee 3 times, asked for milk and waitress gave another table milk when I asked first, was told that they were short staffed. Well they should have pulled people in from other areas. The queue waiting to be seated was ridiculous. Very disappointed.

We enjoyed everything about our stay, especially The Observatory, and the food in Seahorse restaurant was excellent. Very conveniently situated to city centre.

This hotel is located very centrally to Temple Bar, Grafton Street and many major sites. We chose not to get the Hop On/Off Bus because pretty much everything we wanted to see was within a 20 minute walk or much less. The hotel is very nice, clean and the breakfast was excellent. The only thing I wish I had known was that, while they have parkiing available, you have to book it in advance. We had to park several blocks away at a parking garage. We did get a hotel discount but would have preferred to have the valet park at the hotel.
