Bahia Principe Explore Akumal - Hyatt Inclusive Collection - All Inclusive

The resort was beautiful and the staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating! They advertise that there is a night club on the property but there isn't! Many people were disappointed because of that. The "nightclub" is just the outside area of the hacienda with a dj. Love that you can resort hop. Food is better at coba than at Akumal.

Excellent staff, service and overall quality of the resort. They lose two stars because: - their beach isn't great: the beach itself is very narrow and the water is very shallow. - their restaurant reservation system is ridiculous. We were told that we should have booked the restaurants at least a week before our stay...without even knowing what the restaurants looked like or how our week would turn out. - about half of the resort was undergoing significant renovations when we were there. We had construction workers and noisy construction equipment and trucks under our balcony from 8am to 6pm all week long.

We enjoyed our stay at this property. All staff worked very hard to make guests enjoy their stay. Minor issues still existed but didn’t take away from the overall fun and enjoyment. Issues: 1) people from other Bahia resorts were all over our Akumal resort. Even on the beach they were all over, which made our section of the beach crowded and chairs taken. Same for pool and pool area. I didn’t pay attention if that’s the case for the buffet because then it’s not fair for us paying for luxury and having others enjoy the same level of service while paying less. 2) the TV in the room needs upgrade 3) the water was weak but we asked the reception and they fixed the issue 4) more shows as we only had 2 during our 6 nights 5) dessert section was very poor. Needs more quality options. Ice cream selection also. Would’ve been better if we had different selection. Otherwise it was amazing time especially at the adults only section for the hotel

I spent my time in the beautiful Caribbean Sea at the adult only area. There were plenty of lounge chairs and close enough to the poolside bar. In conversation with another fellow traveler, he mentioned the buffet at Siam Kaan, which was just amazing. The area is also adult only, the buffet is smaller, but the selection was superb.

Our five-night stay at Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal in May 2025 provided a welcome opportunity for relaxation. The online check-in process, completed ten days prior, streamlined our arrival at the resort. We were greeted with refreshing champagne and a cold towel, and our requested Junior Suite Ocean View Superior in Villa 66 (first floor, oceanfront, near the adults-only pool) was ready. The trolley ride to our room offered a glimpse of local wildlife, which was a nice touch. Our room was well-maintained by housekeeping, and the consistently stocked mini-bar was appreciated. Bringing our Roku allowed for easy TV viewing. One of the major advantages of this resort is access to the restaurants across all four Bahia properties. While this offers great variety, the dinner reservation system via the app was a point of frustration. Despite early attempts, many restaurants were fully booked, leaving us with later dining times and not our first option for dinner. However, we did enjoy our meals at Thali, Tequila, Maiko, La Gran Tortuga, and Frutos Del Mar. Tequila's buffet format was unexpected given the reservation requirement. The Coffee Shop was a daily highlight. Breakfast at the main buffet was satisfactory, contrasting with a less impressive experience at the adults-only Katok. Navigating the expansive resort was made easy by the frequent golf cart trolleys. The beach was a major draw! Overall, Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal offers a wide range of amenities and experiences!

Summary: Rooms - Good size with all required equipment and Clean on the down side - beds in the room were little bit smaller than expected ( we took 2 double bed and it is good for adult and kid but pretty small for 2 adults ) Our room had issue with the strong mold smell, Also nearby area had some issue with sewer backup and smell of it the solution from the hotel which was provided is humidifier which didn't help much but within few days the sewer backup was fixed ( at least the smell ) and the mold smell in the room was much better ( still was but acceptable level) The surround area was like paradise Food and main location first class Ability to move between hotels areas in the Bahia full complex ( Tulum-Akumal-Coba ) provides you always something new to discover over. Over all l0 days we weren't feel even once we want to go beyond the complex It provides you with a lot of restaurants and entertainment options The only does side is you need to book restaurants before you get to the place and sometimes it is hard to manage right timing service is excellent from all staff we met Kids club just AMAZING- Facility - activities- Stuff Entertainment team - AMAZING Beach - not the best but due to the nature of the place ( a lot of rocks in the swimming areas and the sand less good than in Playa Del Carmen ) but views to the sea are amazing Pools are great and worm Bars are great - excellent service

The hotel was more than half empty and the manager said that "sorry, no upgraded rooms are available to you". So, clearly, this resort does not fulfill Expedia VIP Gold status benefits. The gym at Luxury Akumal is a joke. There is no bench press, nothing to do do squats and the existing equipment is old, rusty and some are not functional. It's an embarassement for a 5-star resort. People come to such places to recreate, to improve health and having a good gym is absolutely essential. Bahia Tulum (the hotel next door, which you will have access from Akumal) has much better gym, although also far from being good. Another bad thing about the gym - the A/C is not cold at all. At best, it sustains temperatures around 25C, while normal gym temperature is 21C at the most. A/C is a problem at the whole resort. Many facilities do not have A/C or running it insufficiently. Thermostats at the rooms are limited and even if you'll set it at 15C, it will barely get you down to 27C. It's difficult to sleep in such hot rooms... Staff is lying, even the manager. An example - we called for towels twice. The answer every time was "someone will bring you the towels in 10 minutes". 2 hours later - no towels, no explanations. Came to front desk, asked the manager, the answer was "Sorry, we have no towels left, laundry was not working today". Then I went back to the room, called from the room once again about the towels and... MIRACLE! The towels came in 10 min. No towels, right?

Great resort and amenities, its huge, from casino, shops, all kind of different restaurants. Adult only areas are perfect, the infinity pool it’s beautiful and very peaceful. Spa service, analy ( don’t remember well her name) she was amazing, very kind and warm. Some of the staff at restaurants were super friendly and try to help you,Tania F&B manager was amazing, but unfortunately we came across a few that wouldn’t be interested in assist with some dietary restrictions if they weren’t allergy. Overall is a great property, huge and you don’t need to leave if you don’t want too cause they have all kind of entertainment. I’ll definitely recommend it.

Pros - Great food at both the ala cartes & restaurants, great staff (great service & friendly), very clen, beach was great & well maintained, liked the adult only area & infinity pool Cons - There were almost no activities during the day (seemed like they were short activity staff), only 1 tiny swim up bar (and it was not in the adult pool), needed more available shade at the pools, did not like that you had to pay to go to half the evening shows, the bars seemed like they had almost no booze.

Water leaking in every building. Was non stop buckets on floors every day. Our room had leaking water above toilet there was standing water on top of toilet bowl and floors in bathroom. Also ants crawling along wall in toom and table tv sat on.

Although our room was starting to show its age, it was very clean and the staff was excellent. There was a significant renovation happening to many of the villas so it seems they are keeping the buildings as up to date as they can. The only downside was the food. The dishes at the buffet were consistently mislabeled and the restaurants were extremely difficult to book a reservation, although the food was excellent at the one reservation we did secure

The room accommodations were fine but the drinks were terrible. Like 1/10. We check in online 10 days before & couldn’t get a dinner reservation through the app. We reached out to the hotel & they said that they can schedule it for us then later said they could not. I asked for birthday banners for myself & my friends who travel with us in a different room but those request weren’t honored. Will not be returning. There is nothing luxury about it except the price.

MOLD SMELL. rooms smells like mold, unhealthy, the staff were very nice especially (jose) they changed our room 3 times but smell is the same. i even talk to other visitors there and they have same problem. everything else is beautiful and clean, the property is amazing & clean . plp very friendly. transportation inside resort is a little problem bec our room were far from everything. the resort is beautiful except the room part was awful smell, furniture in the rooms is new but humidity & mole smell bad , it's our first here & last for sure.

Es uno de los peores hoteles que he visitado, desde que llegas al hotel y no te ayuda nadie con tus maletas y tu primera impresión que es el lobby y te encuentras que está sucio, ya después pasas a las habitaciones y para tu sorpresa aún más sucio, sábanas manchadas y sucias, toallas que parecen papel de lija, luces que no encienden, pelos y machas de sangre en la bañera, todo un desastre y por si fuera poco lo acompaña una pésima atención, mi familia y yo usamos la piscina y el señor de las toallas no quería darnos toallas que si éramos cinco y que si me daba las cinco toallas lo dejaba sin toallas, La verdad súper decepcionante al punto que íbamos por 5 noches y al segundo día adelantamos el checkout y nos tuvimos que mover a otro hotel. Yo espero que alguien responda por el dinero que me gasté en ese hotel y al final no disfruté.

Very clean and the staff was absolutely amazing very friendly. The only problem was the rooms were outdated could use some work . I will definitely be back.

The property was nice…a bit older but pretty clean. Renovations are still going on at this time. I didn’t like food especially because I found hair in one of meals.

This is your sign to avoid this property at all cost!! The rooms are not luxurious at all, it’s outdated, dirty, we were even infested with ants. Our AC did not work for the first night and what’s astonishing is the lack of customer service. We were dealing with a person named Eddy that was extremely rude and would belittle our room issues. There’s no dining available we had to wait until it was dinner time hoping for a cancelation. You’re not allowed to walk by the beach past 7pm. They do not respect their opening hours which caused us to not eat breakfast before our excursion. It took 5 days before obtaining water bottles in our room and even the 24 hour room service? Yeah they ignore your requests. They also convinced us to pay an extra 300 usd (which I negotiated they wanted us to pay 600$) for a better room with a private beach and guess what? The beach is not even accessible since it was the dumping ground for seaweed and there was a rock barrier. After we went to complain about all of this, they gave us two options. Either to sign a non disclaimer and they would give us hotel credit or they can try to refund us for the extra we paid for our room. It’s been two weeks we left and we got nothing. Oh and in their gourmet restaurant Alux, we found glass in our desert. We also got our cloths ruined because they cleaned our tables in our room with bleach which stained our cloths completely. So please AVOID AVOID AVOID!!

We loved our stay. There were a few issues, when we checked in the fridge was dead in our room, this was fixed relatively quickly. The jets in the tub were broken or missing and the drain wouldnt close so the kids could bath. Our phone also didnt work. We requested 2 double beds and got a king bed and 2 cots. This was extremely inconvenient as we were 2 sister and their kids travelling. It left and adult on a cot. When we asked to move to a different room with the proper bed, and closer to beach we were told there were none. I cannot see how thats true as with the renos occupancy is low. There was no one in the room above us until our last day, and no one next to us until day 5. They could have fixed it for us, they just chose not to. Otherwise it was amazing dolce vida has incredible food. The buffet was always good. Never waited long for drinks and we all enjoyed the shows. 2nd time at bahia, first time at akumal, and we will for sure be back!! But I wont be letting the issues slide next time, for what we pay we should have gotten the correct room type and working amenities.

Beautiful grounds. Very nice room, newly renovated. Excellent buffet. Very disappointed that almost no restaurant reservations are available unless you book far in advance of arrival. No foid/snack options near pool or beach. Service level was mixed with most interactions positive but some taking much too long (e.g., 2 hours to send blankets to the room) and less than pleasant. Service level would be fine for a 3 star but not up to 5 star standard as advertised.

We needed to pay for an upgrade to the renovated suites. the first room in the older part of the hotel was unacceptably run down. that said, the new section was GORGEOUS and worth every penny. The Buffet was very good, drinks mediocre and staff lovely. extremely difficult to get into any of the restaurants other than the buffet, but don't recommend the italian or seafood option, as they lacked ambiance, service was fair at best and food meh. I would stay here again, as it was a good value. It is important to note that hotel almost two hours from the cancun airport during times of traffic and normally about one hour twenty without.

Rooms are musky smelling. When we first got there, no bell boy showed up to help us to the front desk. Staff not as personable as other resorts that we have been to, no one informed us that we had to get reservations for dinner arrangements days in advance. If we wanted to go to certain places food was great at all locations that we had them although portion sizes were small we wish that there was like street tacos, close by the pool areas so that you didn’t have to get dressed and go to the different restaurants to get food. Check out process was pretty easy however, transportation from the hotel to the airport was a mess.

The place is outdated and currently being renovated. Staff are kind and helpful.

Wonderful swim up suite, largely quiet and peaceful for the full week. Spacious room, very comfortable bed. A big resort but not unmanageable, walked everywhere most days. Shuttle available if you need them to the other resorts for facilities or restaurants. The main pool can be a bit loud in the day but there are two other pools to choose from. Beach is a little rocky and some places you can't swim but there are a couple.of large safe bays Shame there isn't an option locally to sort out airport transfers. Managed a private airport transfer for $114.

The property is a bit outdated but they are currently renovating. Our room was a bit stuffy and hot as the AC wouldn’t work properly and we went end of July. The staff is very courteous and helpful. Overall we had a great time as we were able to enjoy the facilities, food and rest.

Due to the weather, a large amount of room had leaks and upon arrival, we learned we would not be able to stay there after all. We were moved to a sister resort without truly having an option and given a $200 credit for the inconvenience. It turned out to be very difficult trip as my family group of 12 was separated. Half was able to stay at Akumal and the other half were displaced. Front desk personnel from Akumal was not understanding the huge inconvenience this caused. I wish they would've been more proactive in working with us towards a better solution.

While the facilities and amenities at the hotel are impressive, the service, particularly at the front desk was disappointing. Some staff members came across as arrogant and unhelpful. There was no effort to explain the layout of the property or how to navigate it, and we were left to figure things out on our own, including the use of their app. Despite specifically requesting a ground floor room due to a recent injury, we were placed on the third floor with no elevator access. There was also no wheelchair assistance offered. It wasn’t until my condition worsened that we were finally moved to a lower floor. This lack of consideration significantly impacted our stay and reflects poorly on their commitment to guest care.

The rooms were clean and the cleaning staff did great with making sure we had plenty of towels and the room was clean everyday. The staff at the bars, restaurants and throughout the whole property were very nice and attentive. I did have an issue of the air conditioner not cooling very well, so I requested a fan from guest services, and the guy said he would talk to his coworkers, but I never received a fan in my room. I also contacted guest services one night to have a technician come to the room and check the air conditioner however a technician never arrived. Some friends of mine also requested a technician come check the air conditioner in their hotel room, and nobody ever came to check theirs either.

We went here for our honeymoon for 5 nights and overall had a good time, but it is certainly not "5-star" or "luxury" by any means. Pros: - Beautiful grounds - Lots of places to explore, especially with the shuttle service to the other Bahia hotels - Great area to swim in the ocean, which is unique to the Akumal location - Great drinks - AC works well in the unit and the beds are comfortable Cons: - The staff are really not helpful at all for a supposed 5-star luxury hotel, they are nice at a surface-level but become standoffish as soon as you have any small need or problem and do nothing to help you whatsoever - The food at the buffet is just acceptable, it was the same every day with no variation - The a la carte restaurants are impossible to book unless you do so weeks in advance and the food is very hit or miss - Even as one of the luxury locations, you cannot get top shelf alcohol - The entertainment was overall subpar, we enjoyed the magic show but otherwise there were no other decent shows and no outdoor events like dancing or foam parties - The pools are beautiful but are not heated even when the weather is cooler outside

It was amazing! Evem though we were at the time of the Hurricane but service from front desk with Angel, room service, housekeeping, waiters, all staff was excellent at what they do, very nice and hardworking people. Great entertainment, great food, nice pools. Better than what I was expecting.

Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal is our go to resort when traveling to mexico. We have stayed at this resort since 2012. The staff is amazing and friendly. The specialty restaurants are excellent. Any problems that are experienced, if any, are corrected immediately. There are only two areas of disappointment that we have observed during our last 4 visits: 1- the entertainment has diminished and 2- The number of transportation shuttles is less and they seem to run less often. In the past, there were always nightly shows in the lobby bars at each resort during the evenings (7P-10P). Otherwise, we are extremely happy with our vacations when staying at Bahia Principe.

Staff was amazing. Front desk upgraded us to adults only building. Guest services were extremely friendly and accommodating. The grounds were beautiful. Only dislike was the high pressures sales tactics for their Privilege Club (which is not a requirement to attend).

Nice place, good pools, lots of places to dine in and walk paths to take after a dinner. Very friendly staff. We picked Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal because it gives access to all the restrants, pools and branches.But it turned out that some beaches don't allow kids, but there are no signs saying that. We've been asked to leave once. I'd say Luxury Akumal is not really kids friendly

This resort is large and you need to take the tram every where which is ok but time consuming. The beach has no WOW factor and they need to improve this. Its a fun resort, they have activities all day long every day. The shows were good. The drinks like Colada's they use syrups and they are awful they need to change this it tastes like medicine. It is clean, the workers work very very hard to do everything to make you happy. It was a good experience.

The beach is beautiful!!!! The property ground is big and the system they have in place is great! Lots to do but lots of people too!!!

We stayed here to see if it offered anything better or more than the Barcelo. We have been at Barcelo 5 times and we will continue. Very disappointed in the lack of snorkel space.

The property is very large and takes a while to navigate. There are lots of restaurant choices however we tried to book these on our first day and there was no availability for any of them for our entire ten day stay, so had to eat at the buffet restaurant every night. The main buffet restaurant is very busy and we preferred to eat at the adult only buffet restaurant at the infinity pool whenever we could - Breakfast and lunch. There was always lots of different options to choose from and everything was very tasty and cooked to a high standard. The beach was disappointing, being very rocky on entering the water and there was a lot of sargassum each morning. Although the staff did their best to clear this there were diggers driving up and down the beach for large parts of the day.

Great staff. Beautiful resort ! Great pools and food ! If your a long beach walker this may not be for you. There are stones and rocks in the water and on shore which made it challenging but still a beautiful snorkel area near the beach bar . I would return

This hotel is hard to get to. We had to take a taxi, a ferry, and then another taxi to get there. $500 in additional fees which is insane. The hotel staff were not like a normal all inclusive- it felt like we were an inconvenience for them. The first night we couldn’t get the room we paid for due to a maintenance issue and we were told that we would get a $100 credit, but when we attempted to check out the credit wasn’t there AND they said we owed almost $5k in charges. After about 20 minutes we were able to get them removed but no one explained what they were. They then had to send an email to someone asking about our credit. (Hope we get the credit back) The shows were good, but not all were included. Restaurants were decent- make sure you download the app and make reservations. Couple of maintenance issues in our room but the biggest irritation was when the AC didn’t go cooler than 19 C. I called and asked about it as I was able to change it previously and was told they would send someone. Guy shows up at the door and looks very annoyed and tells me that the AC is locked and I can’t change it. However the other family we were with didn’t have that issue. Wouldn’t stay here again… Note- you have access to four properties when you book this resort. Be prepared to wait for golf cart transportation in between. Forget about it on show nights.

The property is very clean and has a lot of different pools and hangout areas. But at the same time the property does not have good reliable transportation to Tulum city so your kinda stuck at the report unless you wanna pay a few hundred dollars for a cab or sit on the side of a highway for a bus lol Last thing the food was very very hit or miss at both the biggest and a La carte dinners. Ask what the employees think the best restaurants are and only go to those!!!

Staff was great, food was good, but we couldn't get any reservations despite the fact the restaurants weren't busy. We tried to access the app prior to arrival to reserve before we checked in, sent an email as well trying to make reservations but was unsuccessful. Whoever answered the email thought I was trying to dispute the amount we were charged. Other than that, it was great. Construction going on so it was pretty empty.

A majority of our group got severe food poisoning eating at the breakfast buffet. It took several days to recover. Ruined our vacation and experience.

Everything was good except food ( Both on General buffet and specialised restaurants). Food was tasteless.

Although our room was starting to show its age, it was very clean and the staff was excellent. There was a significant renovation happening to many of the villas so it seems they are keeping the buildings as up to date as they can. The only downside was the food. The dishes at the buffet were consistently mislabeled and the restaurants were extremely difficult to book a reservation, although the food was excellent at the one reservation we did secure

Overall we had a decent experience.. for the week that we were there, there was no restaurant reservations available so we didn't get to experience that part. We ate at the buffet which for the most part had the same foods every day.. different types of rice, pasta station, some type of meat variation.. not much to our likings. After day three you get bored of the same food over and over again. We experienced some dislikes from staff here and there (from front desk and one of the bartenders at the cova beach bar) other than that.. the experience was overall decent but I would not ever return to this hotel again. The beach had a lot of Algae, the staff was amazing in keeping up with cleaning the beach, however by 4pm you couldn't get in the beach water due to overwhelming of algae.

It’s important to book your restaurants in advance . Restaurants are usually booked up before you get here. Guest services was helpful in finding us options during our stay. We loved the pools and location. Food was excellent at the Akumal buffet. Our family really enjoyed it. Music performances through the week were great. Thank you for an excellent experience. We will be back.

We went here for our honeymoon for 5 nights and overall had a good time, but it is certainly not "5-star" or "luxury" by any means. Pros: - Beautiful grounds - Lots of places to explore, especially with the shuttle service to the other Bahia hotels - Great area to swim in the ocean, which is unique to the Akumal location - Great drinks - AC works well in the unit and the beds are comfortable Cons: - The staff are really not helpful at all for a supposed 5-star luxury hotel, they are nice at a surface-level but become standoffish as soon as you have any small need or problem and do nothing to help you whatsoever - The food at the buffet is just acceptable, it was the same every day with no variation - The a la carte restaurants are impossible to book unless you do so weeks in advance and the food is very hit or miss - Even as one of the luxury locations, you cannot get top shelf alcohol - The entertainment was overall subpar, we enjoyed the magic show but otherwise there were no other decent shows and no outdoor events like dancing or foam parties - The pools are beautiful but are not heated even when the weather is cooler outside

Room was fine, staff were very nice and helpful. Over half of my party got food poisoning here and were violently sick for a day. They couldn’t fully enjoy the buffet and some had to cancel their restaurant reservations because of it. Signing up for restaurant bookings was more difficult than needed, and most of the times you could just ask for a table anyway without reservation. App was not user friendly. Sometimes the restaurant staff would ask if we had the menu without allowing us to scan a QR code and would rush us to make a decision. Wish the app could show the menu as well as the reservation at the same time or the restaurant provide a paper menu. The map on the app for the resort was also very confusing and finicky. It sometimes didn’t show properly where the location was and just zoomed out to the whole resort. Food was okay, saltier than expected for many dishes. Was expecting restaurant quality to be higher since it was so hard to get a reservation but it wasn’t. A lot of their pudding desserts had no flavour. Entertainment at night was nice. Hours of operation for snack bar was not correct. The room was too cold with fan/AC at night so I grabbed a blanket from the closet but it had bugs living in it. The app allowed you to do many things like order room service or browse activities, but it doesn’t say if the activity is kids only or adults only. The beach was very nice, could see fish just by standing in the water.

The staff is extremely friendly, the food is excellent and the rooms are clean. Many pools and entertainment. The only problem: is hard to get restaurant reservations. We stayed 7 nights and only got one reservation in a Spanish restaurant (the vegan steak was delicious). Vegan options are available in the buffet as well. Overall, the experience was great, I would definitely like to go back again.

As expected, the resort has an incredibly friendly accommodating staff from the bottom up. Plenty of options for sun and fun whether the in pools or on the beach, and loads of excursions if you want to go off resort. The Mayan Riviera is a really beautiful backdrop to this sprawling manicured set of resorts. Note: Evening restaurants (non buffet) require reservations and although you can start this up to 10days prior to your checkin date, the restaurants were mostly booked that far in advance. We were able to get into a restaurant each night by checking individual restaurants schedules around 4:30pm, the day of, to look for cancelations. Yay! But honestly I really don’t want to spend my vacation time stressing each day about my ability to use my dinner credits for a nice restaurant meal. It also kept us from planning excursions as not knowing what time we would eat dinner until late afternoon. Also if you miss your reservation it’s a $20 fee so that can be problematic if you only found the earliest dinner times. All in all we really enjoyed 7 great meals with some exceptional menus.
