As previous posts have mentioned the lack of a car park is inconvenient, however as I was working in the area i was usually arriving back after 6pm and leaving before 8am which meant I could park in the short stay car park near the hotel for free. However, if you are there for the day it can be inconvenient. Perhaps the hotel could come up with local parking permits included in the price, just an idea. The room itself was compact and the bed very comfortable. The bathroom had seen better days & was very tired. Dust, grime and bottom of doors and frames scratched down to the wood was a shame. The bath creaked whenever you moved and made you feel awkward, and I am not a lump :-). For the rate I paid, which was expensive what with it being the first week of school holidays and Royal Welsh taking place 30 mins down the road I was left disappointed. Pub grub food and breakfast was good, however as a bit of a snob regarding coffee, coffee bags are not the way to start the day as they are bland & weak, hopefully they will invest in a proper coffee machine in future. The staff I interacted with were pleasant and polite which was nice, so full marks there.

Looks like it was a pretty solid business at one time. But now it's run down and poorly staffed. The restaurant and bar service in particular were so badly managed I heard customers complain about waiting 15 minutes for someone to take their orders. I chayyed with one table (There were only two tables occupied) who had waited 45 minutes for their order. I was standing next to them when the "Manager" said the kitchen had lost their order???!!! Finally the GM had to come to the hotel from home and comp'd them their meals. Staff were inattentive and seemed to be more interested in talking with each other, looking at their phones, or hiding in the kitchen. I travel a lot and was brought up in the Hospitality industry. None of this staff would have lasted a shift with us. Brecon was disappointing. As an ex pat visiting for the first time in years I found it run down, shops boarded up, litter everywhere and lazy construction workers on the square in front of the hotel; Oh and the bar across the road had a bunch of drunks sitting outside bellowing to anyone and everyone passing by until shut tap and then continued to loiter until the wee hours. The town council needs to get their act together. It was really an awful experience.
