The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful and I found the hotel clean. The pool was being updated and was not open which I was not aware of. Breakfast was eggs, sausage patties, biscuits for the hot stuff and the usual bread, cereal and pastries with no complaints about that. Room was a little small but overall a good stay

Hotel staff were as nice as they could be. Room felt safe and was comfortable. It was very convent and close to Boone - making it an affordable option when visiting App State. Breakfast was typical. Coffee in the lobby. Small but adequate fitness center. Close to restaurants and grocery store. Pool was big (not yet open when I visited). There is no elevator and steps were slippery in the rain. Room doors open to the outside. All in all, great value for the price.

Beautiful lobby area and welcoming staff. Interesting layout with central outdoor courtyard. Pool in courtyard was not available for use (seasonal?) but is in a great location.

Thought it had a pool and it use too but its been drained and damaged. It did have a microwave and fridge in room which was a plus. No elevator so if you have a lot of luggage you wanna be on 1st floor

Pool was unexpectedly closed. Hotel rooms could use an upgrade. Beds are comfortable. Check-in staff were pleasant and managed an early check-in for us. When I requested a change in the tv station during breakfast from espn to a morning news show I was told that it wasn’t possible due to a “different system “ and that an sports station was acceptable to all. I was irritated by this response.most breakfast rooms show one of the major network morning news programs. It appears that the hotel has been sold recently and is no longer a best western.

While the front desk was very courteous and helpful, the property is undergoing renovations and there was no pool or outdoor area and the restaurant was closed. No sidewalks around the property so walking into town was not an option. We had no hot water when we wanted to take a shower but that was taken care of promptly. Decor was dated but as I said, there is a renovation going on.

It was exactly as described. Cleaned room, comfortable bed and pillows. The property in general is outdated but cozy. It is centrally located. We visited GFM and after a whole day hiking, we were happy it was just what we needed.

For the area the hotel works. Definitely a good stay and the rooms are very clean. Also we usually do not eat Continental breakfast but after seeing how clean the hotel was we decided to. Food was pretty darn good if I might say so. Thanks for the good stay!

I requested my money back after walking into the room. It was dirty and unkept. Rugs were dirty and looked like they had been there since it first opened. It smelled funny. Sheets were dirty.

Dirty, dated rooms. We saw a roach within minutes of entering our room. WiFi worked intermittently and required connecting in the lobby before returning to our room (as suggested by the staff). Rooms were very cluttered with extra furniture leaving very little space. The staff were very helpful, kind and responsive . Breakfast was nice. Adequate options, even a few offerings for gluten or dairy sensitive persons.

Carpet heavily worn with large wrinkles in it, uncomfortable bed that sloped toward head of bed, thermostat display unreadable so no ability to control room temperature, no elevator to upper floors so had to stay on main level, window curtain torn and dirty. Will not return to this property.

LOVE Banner Elk, MOTEL can use some work. The property itself is quite lovely, and in a great area. The rooms open to the outside and there are no elevators which can cause issue if you have a ton of luggage or have physical restrictions. The rooms are typical hotel rooms, beds are comfy, AC isn’t great, and hot water is unpredictable. They only clean the room if you stay more than 4 nights so towels and trash pile up. The towels are more like gauze so it takes a few per shower. Breakfast is decent but the nightly front desk staff could use some training on friendliness. We’d stay here again but it’s not a great value for the cost.

This hotel is old but really well-maintained. The landscaping is very nice with lush grass and attractive flower beds. We stayed there 20 years ago when our children were little for a ski trip. The rooms have not changed much in appearance (simple interiors) but everything was super clean, beds were very comfortable and there were a variety of pillow types to meet our preferences. We were in town for a wedding and it was perfect for a quick overnight. I would recommend this BW to travelers looking for safe, quiet, clean and reasonably priced accommodations! Breakfast buffet offered many selections and was refreshed by staff to ensure quality experience. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and very helpful! You can't beat NC Mountain Hospitality!

I read many of the reviews online for this motel and addressed the most common negative comments: 1. Room cleanliness and smell - our room was clean and did not smell at all. Granted, it was a Best Western so it didn't look like the Ritz Carlton. However, there were no bugs, no smells, and the bathroom was clean. 2. Beds - our beds and pillows were comfortable. Not hard at all. The blankets are pretty thin. 3. Noise - this was a problem. The walls are paper thin. We heard conversations by our neighbors (involving topics like cancer and implants) that lasted until 10:00 pm. Another neighbor sounded like he was sick and coughed/hacked for a long while. Again - you get what you pay for. 4. Breakfast - it was basic. Don't go expecting a wide variety of food or high quality food. Also, go early - we were not the first there when we arrived before 7:00, and by 7:20 the room was almost filled up. 5. Water temperature - we had no issue getting hot water in the shower. However, the water temp fluctuated during the shower between warm and cool. Hotel appearance - the place needs some serious TLC on the outside. There were orange construction cones along the balcony of the upper floor where wood panels were falling off. PRO - The staff deserves recognition, because the ladies at the front desk were sweet. One of them even called us the evening of our arrival to check in and make sure there weren't any problems with our room.

Location of the property was excellent. The facility has aged poorly. The AC unit was extremely loud and difficult to sleep through when it started. The refrigerator started alarming in the middle of the night. Bedding was at best eh. Breakfast was below mediocre. Would not stay there again with all of the other options on Sugar and Beech Mountain.

Best Western Banner Elk turned us away from their door because we live under 30 miles away. We wanted to be in banner elk to see my nine-month old grandson as my son’s family were passing through the area. My wife and I are retired, in our sixties and not used to such stupid BS. We do still love Hotels.Com as are travel app.

On check in i realized that i did not request a 1st floor room. I have a handicapped child travelling with me who cannot navigate stairs. The lodge had me booked on the 2nd floor, but they scrambled to meet my needs. They were wonderful and i cannot thank them enough for their care and consideration.

This lodge is a glorified motel, and the descriptions painted it in a better light than what reality reflected. The rooms were modest and a bit outdated, breakfast was repetitive and substandard for the price per night, and the staff berated an adult for trying to fill their cup with juice after the concentrate had emptied (only water was coming out and this was apparently unacceptable). Aside from this incident, the staff was friendly. If the price per night was around $110, this review would be skewed more positive with regard to the accommodations.

The clerk was so friendly and helpful. She told us the best places to eat and she was absolutely right. The lobby was decorated in a Scottish theme and was very nice. I would highly recommend this place

I first want to mention that I NEVER write negative reviews. I make it a point to always find the silver lining in any situation, and I don't leave a negative review for anything unless I feel that I don't want others to go through the experience I had. This definitely applies to our stay here, unfortunately. We had the most bizarre check in experience I've ever had at a hotel. Upon seeing that our license had a local address (we moved away from the area a few months ago), the staff member at check in said they don't rent to locals. We had to explain how we moved away and are visiting, and she then asked us what the reason was for our stay. This interrogation felt rude and invasive. When we finally got to our room, the area leading to the room was dirty with spilled food substance on the ground outside of our door, and both the room and grounds outside of the room just had a general unkept feel. The vibe was more like a motel than a hotel or "lodge." There was dust on the lampshade, the curtains were discolored, the bed was uncomfortable (we travel a lot for work and sleep in a lot of hotel beds), and the entire place had a dated feel. I was woken up multiple times during the night to sounds from other hotel rooms, and the towels were paper thin. As far as positives go, the location was convenient to Banner Elk and the room was one of the cheapest in the area - though $260 for this experience doesn't seem like a bargain to me.

An aging facility but overall well kept. Front desk staff extremely helpful and accommodating. Housekeeping did a great job during our stay to keep things clean and organized. Would certainly book again when revisiting.

Very average stay. This is a motel with rooms access on the outside. Rooms are small and beds are only a double. For $200 a night, I expect a queen and breakfast with more options. Coffee was cold and no healthy options. I have never paid $200 for a motel in my life. For $100, I would not care about these services. Staff was friendly. Location was just okay.

This property was over priced by about $100. It has not been updated in many, many years! The room was clean but not appealing. The pool was clean and could have been very nice if the furnishings outside the pool were updated. The breakfast was horrible and low budget.I paid top dollar the weekend we visited but that was way too much for this property regardless of the dates we stayed !
