El Tovar - Inside the Park

Beautiful lodge, nice amenities (restaurant, bar, convenience store, gift shop all on site), perfect location, great atmosphere. Parking was a challenge

El Tovar is a historic hotel, so it will not have amenities founds in newer places, like, elevators. You go there for the character, of which it has plenty, and the history. Nice restaurant and well equipped gift shop are among the amenities.

No elevator so you must carry all luggage up all stairs

It was wonderful to be right on the rim! The bartenders and servers were so friendly. Parking was a little tough since it was open to the public.

Great place to stay as you can walk a few steps to the rim for incredible views. Lodge needs luggage carts.

This historic hotel was awesome and right at the edge of the canyon. We enjoyed our stay here. El Tovar Dining Room never disappointed with excellent service and food. Parking can be a little difficult as there is no designated hotel parking, but there are several parking lots within walking distance. The park shuttle was easy to use and offered different routes around the park. The shuttle stops were very close to the hotel. We would definitely stay here again!

No elevators and only one ramp into the hotel (located on the side) not at main entrance. Must take stairs for most things FYI. So “pack lightly”…,.The room decor is dated and “minimal” for the room rate. You must have reservations for dinner AND breakfast and cocktail lounge fills up quickly and admittance is cut off. The Grand Canyon is spectacular and the hotel’s location is wonderful but not worth its rate.

Very nice hotel and staff. The only downside is the consumables they use (tissue, room coffee, toilet paper, etc…) are low quality and not befitting of its legacy as a premier destination. Travel tip: the hotel puts out a morning coffee station on the second floor for guests. Grab coffee from there instead of he in-room watery packets. Also, parking can be a challenge as there is no designated area for guests.

Check in was good but not very informative. Beds were worn with dips in the mattress. Restaurant was overpriced for the food provided. Lounge was nice. Location was perfect. Refrigerator in room but no microwave. Hair on the bathroom floor.

Fantastic location. Dining options for vegetarians in the main restaurant were terrible and can be greatly improved and updated. Couldn’t help but notice that the lobby carpet by the stairs appeared quite dirty during our stay. A clean and well-maintained lobby is essential to create a positive impression for guests. At times, the water pressure was barely a trickle. Consistent and reliable access to water is a basic necessity for guests and should be addressed promptly. Customer service could also do with improvement. I must commend the excellent service provided in the cocktail lounge. The staff there exhibited a level of hospitality and attentiveness that was noticeably better than in other areas of the hotel.

This is a classic property with the most amazing views as a Grand Canyon right out the front door. Other than the older lady working the front desk who was extremely helpful and had obviously been there for years, the young staff was utterly useless. My room had old use soap with hair on it and hair in the bathtub. The nightstand was covered in sticky grossness with garbage underneath it. When I told the front desk, she asked me, “so you’re asking for a full clean?“ when I came back six hours later, my room was still not cleaned. The coffee inevitably ran out multiple times every morning . When I brought a coffee cup to the host, there’s a sign next to the coffee saying the host could offer specialty coffee for a price,and asked him to fill it up he looked at me with disgust then went back and got it and then instead of handing it to me set it on a display table across from me. It was actually comical. He was so miserable. Again the older woman at the front desk was great, the manager was nice. The rest of the staff was useless and would not go so much is a half a step out of their way to help you. It was dirty, it was outdated, it was overpriced. The lights flickered when you turn them on and the hallways are reminiscent of “The Shining.” The air conditioning was straight out of the 1970s and every time it turned on which was at least once an hour, it was so loud it startled me out of my sleep. This hotel has so much potential. It has great history. It’s truly a shame.

Excellent food. Clean hotel, quiet location. Lots of place to walk and beautiful views. Wildlife tame and nice to see.

They were not very professional, did not go over and above expectations. The bedding had stains on the sheets, room had a strong odor. The room configuration was not well layout. TV reception was poorly received.

We had a great time. El Tovar was clean and the location could not be beat.

The best thing about El Tovar is it’s location. The rooms are mediocre given the price- $300 . The air conditioners are loud, the bed mattresses bad and the shower did not work. Rooms are not cleaned daily and even after 2 nights, we could not get them to clean our room.Despite booking the rooms about a month in advance, I could not get a commitment to a 1st floor room for my elderly parent ( there are no elevators). It took several phone calls to get that done. Food is okay but there really is not much choice within the park. The hotel was below average. Grand Canyon made up for that!

Our room was really small and it was a lot of noise from the rooms and hallway next door. But amazing location.

Pricey: $500 for small double bed

The hotel store was supposed to open at 8am—we arrived right at opening to grab water for a hike, but it didn’t open until 8:45, and the front desk offered no real solution. WiFi didn’t work in our room, and we were told to call tech support ourselves. The AC was loud and the display light was so bright it lit up the entire room, making it hard to sleep. I got sick after a hike (totally my fault for overdoing it), but when my son tried to get food to-go from the restaurant, they refused. No room service, no flexibility, no support. For the price, I expected better. The bellhop was wonderful, but that was the only highlight. Would not stay again.

Slightly disappointed in the size of the room. There was a pubic hair on the floor in the bathroom. The dining options were mediocre at best. With that being said the view was spectacular! Our access to the canyon view, which is ultimately what we came for, was very convenient. Overall very happy because we got what we came for.

We enjoyed our stay in the El Tovar Hotel for its unique historical ambience and exceptional location across from the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. The queen bed room was expensive but not great. The decor was quite modest, the mattress was too soft, the AC not very effective and loud, there weren't enough electrical outlets, and the TV picture was grainy. However, the bathroom was a generous size with appealing retro black and white tiles and the shower was great.

Would have given it a five but for the air conditioner, The property was very nice. We enjoyed our stay. The air conditioner was really loud, and I mean, really loud. It was hard to sleep with it on. We had to turn the temperature up close to 80 at night so that it wouldn’t turn on or at least turn on very little because when it did turn on the rumbling that it made kicking on was incredibly loud. It woke both of us up. But for that air conditioner, we would’ve had amazing sleep. The restaurant was absolutely wonderful! Breakfast was superb! Dinner was amazing! Our room was very clean. The bathroom with its fresh towels was wonderful.

Rooms are NOT worth what I paid! Beds are awful, TV doesn’t work, REALLY small! At the Grand Canyon and have a view of the parking lot - what do you expect for $350+ per night per room (I had 3 rooms)!

El Tovar was a pricey hotel and perhaps I expected more for NYC prices but was pretty disappointed. firstly, this is definitely a rustic hotel. I get that we’re out west and at the Grand Canyon but I do mean it is rustic. It’s also pretty dark inside. The overall effect is not great...dark and not inviting. things were not better in the room. The rooms are oddly structured and not roomy at all. The bathrooms are a weird mix of roomie but not a lot of space to put your toiletries on. So you get the effect of a lot of room but no actual convenient place to store your normal every day, things like shavers, shaving cream, etc. I found the shower to be weak and that’s a big "no"in my book for a hotel. on the plus side, the service was good. Had a couple issues at the front desk took care of and double check to make sure that I was happy. I definitely appreciate that touch. Overall, I’d save some money and stay outside the park since you’re not getting much for your money when you stay at this hotel, other than, I guess, location, location, location.

Amazing location, beautiful property but the A/C in the 3 rooms that we had was very noisy and we reserved king beds and were queen, but the view is really beautiful and the restaurant was very nice

It appeared most of the staff may have failed to remember that they work in a service industry. Some were great, but most didn't even bother to try.

We arrived with 4 cases and they put us on the top floor no elevators, me and my wife are in our 60s, the bell hop took one look at our cases and frowned and decided to offer his help to a young girl in her 20s who had 1 small case terrible sevice. the Hotel is very old and very expensive for what it is your paying for the location. would i stay again no!!

I hadn’t been to the Grand Canyon since I was very young. I thought I knew what to expect but my expectations were exceeded upon our arrival. The El Tovar Hotel was a very nice part of the whole experience. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and well appointed while keeping its 100+ year old vibe. The Canyon was only feet away - what views. Thie whole experience of the El Tovar and Grand Canyon was wonderful.

It is right on the south rim of the Grand Canyon

Amazing to stay at a hotel right on the rim of the Grand Canyon. We could see the rim from our room, and could be at the rim less than 30 seconds after leaving the room. Definitely worth staying here!

Can’t beat the location. Extremely easy to walk the south rim trails from this location in the cool of morning, before the crowds arrive.

El Tovar is an awesome place. Worth the money to stay directly on the rim. Very convenient to roll out of bed and watch the sunrise over the Grand Canyon. Easily scored a parking spot right in front. No need to leave this spot while you are here. So glad this room came up and didn’t stay in Tusayan. Been wanting to stay here ever since I saw Clark W. Griswold rob the desk clerk in vacation.

The hotel is charming, the location is very nice. The hostess at the restaurant for breakfast was mean.

The El Tovar is absolutely stunning and right on the rim of the Grand Canyon. The views are beautiful. We ate in the dining room and it was amazing. Steaks were cooked to perfection and the Crème Brûlée for dessert was delicious. We had a few drinks in the bar and sat by the window. It was a wonderful trip and we will be back.

Rustic, atmospheric, excellent restaurant

El Tovar is a landmark and historical site. Watching the sunset and sunrise was magical. The food in El Tovar dining room was excellent we had Cobb salad and filet dinners and it was on par with anywhere.

Our stay here was just OK - we weren’t made to feel particularly welcome, which given this is likely a trip of a lifetime to the Grand Canyon was a shame. We really disliked our evening meal in the restaurant. It was overpriced and was not fine dining. We preferred our lunch in the Bright Angel lodge next door. This was the single most expensive nights accommodation on our trip to the US and it wasn’t worth it, not really. The room and beds were fine, it just wasn’t the special stay we were expecting.

Great place to stay inside the park, and views of the Grand Canyon were breathtaking. The only negative was dinner in the main restaurant. The service was ok, but the food really wasn't that good for the price. We ordered both of our steaks medium rare but they came out nearly raw. The broccolini was also tough and really undercooked.

Even though the properties location is great, there were other lodge nearby in the park that were also walking distance from trails and such. We were also looking forward to our reservations at the restaurant on the premises but this was very far from “fine dining”. Not only did we not finish our dinner, unfortunately was not worth the save. Overall a good experience because we made it but the hype is not necessary. (Can’t say it’s worth the price they charge.)

Historic atmosphere, but disappointing comfort and food. The hotel has undeniable charm, with an iconic historic atmosphere and friendly, professional staff. However, the experience is severely undermined by several issues: – The restaurant is a disaster: food is poorly cooked, extremely overpriced, and no menu or pricing is visible before entering. Definitely not up to the expectations of an establishment of this level. – Rooms are outdated and unacceptably noisy, especially due to the old air conditioning system, which makes sleeping difficult. One night might be tolerable for the location and view — more than that becomes a struggle.
