Império do Rei Boutique Hotel

The breakfast was disappointing and the showers were awkward and very small. Room was clean but rather small and austere. The bed was comfortable. We wanted some wine before we headed out to dinner and I walked a few blocks around the hotel and didn't see anywhere to buy it. It was desolate in the neighborhood. When I got back to the hotel, I saw a refrigerator with wine in it in the lobby and asked to buy the only bottle of white wine I saw in it. The hotel clerk said I could buy it and lent me a corkscrew and some glasses, but said he didn't know how much it would cost (which I thought was odd). He called someone and they couldn't tell him. I figured at worst it would be $25 (It's Portugal - it's hard to find a wine over $10 retail!) and bought the wine. That night when we returned from dinner, he said that he had reached the manager and the wine was 86 euros! We were stunned. We didn't even like it - three of us only drank half of it because it wasn't to our taste. It's the first white wine I've had in Portugal that I didn't like, and we've owned a home here for 4 years and drunk a LOT of wine at home and in restaurants. I looked it up and it was a pricey wine (56 - 65 euros retail) so it wasn't like they put a $5 bottle of wine in and jacked up the price, but why they had a very expensive bottle of wine in a moderate (at best) hotel lobby is beyond me. I would not return.

This is a very small hotel with very small rooms - that being said, the staff/management/housekeeping/kitchen made sure we had an excellent stay. They really cared about our comfort and did everything to make it a good one. The breakfast was generous and delicious. They were helpful finding us a restaurant - which was one of the best meals we have had on this 6 week vacation. (Maos na Horta - vegetarian restaurant in a 14th century stables and inn). Exceptionally clean and the manager helped us get our luggage up the stairs. They are a proud team of true hospitality professionals and we are grateful.

Easy to find (it’s a one-way street, so look for the green & white sign). Helpful reception staff, I parked my motorcycle in front of the entrance, comfortable room, good breakfast.

Everything was fine.

Nice little hotel with breakfast included was ideal for us on our way by car from Cordoba to Porto. We were able to park right at the front door, check in took just a few minutes and the bed was most comfortable.
