The Outpost Inn is a great option within close proximity to downtown Highlands. The room was quaint and comfortable, a little more rustic than the expedia pictures portray, but lovely. Check out their website for a more accurate depiction. Staff is not typically onsite, but they are present at the sister property Highlands Mountain House if you need ice or other assistance. The Outpost has beautiful new cruiser bikes available that you can check out for a quick jaunt into town for coffee or dinner.

The Outpost Inn was such a wonderful stay in Highlands! Our room was darling, well appointed with a little sitting area, fireplace and record player including some throw back records that put us in the mood. Bed/bedding was great, good shower pressure and products. Each afternoon we would hang out in the common spaces and firepits and enjoy a glass of wine, 'smores and meeting other travelers. The hotel is very close to town, you can walk. They also have bikes to take around. I highly recommend this hotel for a stay in the Highlands!!

We had a very good 2 night stay. Our only suggestion is to add a thinner pillow option in the rooms. Loved the fire pits, bed comfort, water pressure, convenience to town, and nice folks working there.

Even though the room was very small we still loved it, it was quiet and cozy. The bed was very comfortable, great quality t.v. The water pressure in the shower was awesome! We also loved the fireplace. The driveway is in desperate need of repairs. Great location for downtown Highlands. We would definitely stay here again

We had the best stay at the Outpost Inn. This family owned Inn was so cozy. The attention to detail was incredible. We loved the onsite coffee and wine bar. We will definitely be back! Couldn’t recommend more.

Really enjoyed the decor inside my room (The Terrace) and outside on the grounds. Parking in the front is nice while the back gravel lot less friendly; paved would be next upgrade! Staff, other guests and the general atmosphere of the place were welcoming and friendly. Definitely would recommend and book again! Wish the fridge had a freezer and ice maker. Would like to add video; only have the one relevant photo.

A friend and I stayed at the Outpost for a night when in town for a music event. We couldn't have been happier with the vibe of the entire place, the cleanliness, staff, offerings, convenience, and overall comfort level. The rooms are stylishly decorated with an eclectic assortment of cool decorative and functional items ranging from native american culture to modern art to music. The lobby is one of the neatest things about the Outpost Inn. When we walked in there the morning after our stay, we could not believe the vibe. It's just the coolest space to hang out with vinyl, a cone fireplace burning and space to chill. Not to mention a coffee bar where you can get all kinds of drinks. As guests, we received a free drip coffee and banana bread. It was SO cozy and had such a great vibe, we didn't want to leave. We will surely be returning over the summer! Thanks for a wonderful and comfy getaway spot!

Property seems to be undergoing a refresh and has tremendous potential. Contactless entry/chk in was a smooth process, room was clean, location was good, property was quiet but amenities on the property were minimal (lobby didn’t seem open the majority of our stay), rooms were small, and fireplace didn’t seem to work. We were expecting a little more of a boutique hotel experience.

Hotel recently changed name and appears to be undergoing room renovation. No one at front deck for check in. Call number on door and eventually someone showed up. Did not receive txt or email with check in instructions. Rooms were pretty nice and clean. Comfortable bed, gas fire place. Hotel has lots of potential.

Advertised fireplace was know to be non-operational by all staff and we were only notified an hour before arrival. This has obviously been a problem for a while. Refrigerator was broken. They did bring another one the next day. Ants. Sofa and chair had large stains on them. Office was locked most of the time and we only saw an attendant just as we were leaving. For nearly $300/night, they need to step it up.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Outpost Inn. It felt like a rustic mountain lodge. The inn was actually redecorated when bought by the current owners. It was clean and the people working there were helpful. They had added some outdoor seating areas and a fire pit which is great for when the weather is nice. The price is good for the area. It was very close to the main street area with shops and restaurants. We'd stay there again as long as the price stays reasonable.

It was perfect for us and you have a great idea with this layout, but the planting materials in the parking area could have been moved somewhere else. Our windows so needed to be clean. The bathroom was beautiful! I loved the furnishings. Housecleaning was on top of it daily and our room smelled great. Thank you.

Our room was clean. However, there were safety issues with curled carpet and uneven steps into the bathroom. We had a daddy long leg spider in the shower and another spider in our bed. In addition the tv program supplier was absolutely awful and difficult to use.

The room accommodations were new and very clean. The overall facility was nicely decorated and very comfortable. Hard to describe the place but I really enjoyed staying there and relaxing. I will definitely stay again. The location is a couple blocks from downtown, easy drive, or bikes were available.

We loved the decor, the location and the bed itself was very comfortable however, we could not figure out the AC with the remote and it was 75 degrees most of the night so we did not sleep comfortably- we are used to cooler temps at night and are hot sleepers. I finally figured it out around 2am but at that point I had very little sleep and just wanted some air flow in the room. It wasn’t until I hit the “super” button on the remote that it began to cool off and I could rest comfortably though it took awhile to do so. Other than that, it was a unique and lovely place to stay.

We went in December and there were many vacant rooms, which made it very quiet. The climate control system in the room was difficult to control. It was either too hot or too cold. Also, the gas fireplace, which is an attractive feature of the room, was not functioning. There was a printed note taped to the fireplace stating the fireplace should not be turned on. Our friends, who stayed in another room had the exact same printed note on their fireplace. The property should have told all of us that the fireplaces were all broken so that we could have made a better choice on where to stay in the area. It was disappointing to pay that much money for a room with a wonky climate control system and a broken charm feature of the room.

I stayed here a few years back when it was the Wells Hotel. I liked it then and I really like it now. The owners have done a refresh and the decor is fun and interesting. We stayed in #5 (a studio) and found it to be very comfortable and welcoming; the AC worked great and the bathroom was updated and very nice. Enjoyed playing some tunes on the record player. We walked to Sunset Rock and had dinner at Ristorante Paoletti. A very nice Highlands experience. It is a busy time of year so you will hear some road noise but it did not bother us. Highly recommend the Outpost!

So disappointed. While claiming to be a “hotel”, there was no one on site other than cleaning staff at any time. Had we needed something, someone from another property 20-30 minutes away would supposedly drive over. The room smelled like a mixture of moth balls and mold deterrent. The fireplace - a key reason I booked this overpriced room - was out of order. (We were not told this in advance.) The doors, which we were assured would lock automatically, did not lock unless you manually locked the door from the inside and held the handle perfectly still when closing the door, There were shared toiletries in the shower (full size, already open/used). You drive on a muddy gravel road to get to a tiny parking lot. There is a trash can on the porch of the laundry room that attracted a sizable black bear that I encountered when I went to get something from our car. The only positive things I can say was that it was clean, the towels and bedding were a nice quality, and the shower had good water pressure. Maybe it will improve under new ownership.

What a place 😍. I enjoyed this stay more than any other place in the last year! The entire experience was sublime, from the moment I parked my car to the moment I left! The room’s theme, tribal, Indian gives the place a sense of comfort and easiness! The smell, the sound of the creek played on the tv made it very relaxing! The room’s theme, tribal, Indian gives the place a sense of comfort and easiness! The smell, the sound of the creek played on the tv made it very relaxing! Beware of the check in process! They do not have a full time staff so front desk closes at 6pm. They never emailed or texted us the room number and door code as indicated. Its practically impossible to get someone after hours. Room was not clean at all - like they hadn't expected check in. Good location but not so great service.

Excellent service from staff, Amy was helpful in getting me checked in early. I had a long ride in from Florida and was exhausted couldn’t ask for better place to stay. Condition of the room was impeccable. Highly recommended staying here if you’re going to be in the Highlands, NC area.

Beware. Had a reservation for over 3 months for 2 rooms. They called with less than 24 hours notice to cancel one of the rooms due to renovations. They relocated me to another property that was not even close to a comparable property and did offer a free stay in the future, but did not help for the stay we had planned.

A friend and I stayed at the Outpost for a night when in town for a music event. We couldn't have been happier with the vibe of the entire place, the cleanliness, staff, offerings, convenience, and overall comfort level. The lobby is one of the neatest things about the Outpost Inn. When we walked in there the morning after our stay, we could not believe the vibe. It's just the coolest space to hang out with vinyl, a cone fireplace burning and space to chill. Not to mention a coffee bar where you can get all kinds of drinks. As guests, we received a free drip coffee and banana bread. It was SO cozy and had such a great vibe, we didn't want to leave. We will surely be returning over the summer! We really enjoyed our stay. The property is very nice and well maintained. Parking was available on the front and backside of the property. You can easily walk to the downtown area which was very convenient. Also really liked having our room entry code sent to us the day of check-in so that we could go straight to our room upon arrival.

What a great spot. We felt the vibes right away as we pulled up and were greeted by Alex who was at the front desk. We loved the communal atmosphere and had some great conversations with other folks staying there on the common room. The bed was comfy and the room was awesome. We loved that it was a little off the main drag, but close enough to walk. I’m definitely going to recommend to others. Thanks y’all!

Our room was darling, well appointed with a little sitting area, fireplace and record player including some throw back records that put us in the mood. Bed/bedding was great, good shower pressure and products. Each afternoon we would hang out in the common spaces and firepits and enjoy a glass of wine, 'smores and meeting other travelers. The hotel is very close to town, you can walk. They also have bikes to take around. I highly recommend this hotel for a stay in the Highlands!!

It was clean and the people working there were helpful. They had added some outdoor seating areas and a fire pit which is great for when the weather is nice. The price is good for the area. It was very close to the main street area with shops and restaurants. We'd stay there again as long as the price stays reasonable.

We certainly enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Outpost Inn in Highlands, NC. Our room was very cozy complete with working gas fireplace, flat screen TV, and updated bathroom. The bed was comfortable, but softer than some might want. The hosts were extremely friendly, helpful, and hospitable! The welcome glass of wine or beer was lovely, and complementary drip coffee and fresh banana bread every morning in the cozy lounge was lovely.
