Loved this hotel so much! It’s small but cozy. As soon as you walk in you take off your shoes and I loved that. They also offer you green tea when you check in. The location is very close to Gion and the hotel is a 15 minute walk to the closest station. The rooms are spacious and since the hotel is small I had the onsen all to myself at times which I really liked. The staff were all great and overall I highly recommend this ryokan.

There were a few options to eat around the Ryokan but the ones we wanter to go to needed a reservation. We did get the breakfast package and highly recommend that. Overall it was a good experience with the tatami mats, futon and general decor. The Onsen was a bit small but it's definitely worth going to at least once.

직원분 정말 친절하시고 대욕탕은 사람없을때 이용했는데 온천이 따로 필요없었습니다. 위생적으로 관리가 훌륭했습니다. 숙소에서 유카타를 따로 제공도 해주셔서 좋은 추억남기고 갑니다. 너무 좋았습니다!

We wanted to experience a ryokan for one night in Japan. It was a bit pricey but our room was decently sized. The staff was very kind. They offered us drinks with our dinner, and didn’t mention it being an extra fee for drinks. So we were a bit surprised at checkout when they had us pay extra for that (they should’ve said it costs extra when they offered it to us… also since the meal was included we assumed that included drinks). The food was traditional Japanese which we had not tried before. Some of it was not my cup of tea but we still tried all of it! I’d say skip the breakfast since it was pricey and not typical breakfast foods. I was looking forward to the public bath but when I walked down it seemed underwhelming and kinda dingy… the beds were surprisingly comfy! Our backs felt great the next day! The styling of the rooms was cute. Just kinda dusty and there was super weird creaking sounds at night which scared us a bit! Overall though we enjoyed our stay and this new experience. And the service was very kind.

The hotel is really beautiful with a zen garden in the lobby area. The staff was so kind and accommodating. We experienced authentic tatami floors and enjoyed the public bath which was very relaxing. I would definitely come back!

This ryokan has very nice and spacious rooms and friendly staff. The public bath is a bit small but there are not many guests at the ryokan so it was not a problem. The breakfast is tasty and has quite a few options.

Close to the Gion wooden area in Kyoto, you can get a lot of sightseeing done right from this hotel. The ryokan itself is lovely, the staff is wonderful, and the room is very nice. They give you yukatas to wear, and the Onsen is great. I had the tub all to myself, and I enjoyed relaxing alone in the steamy waters before going out to a show and dinner.

This Ryokan was fantastic. The staff serving us were very polite and helpful, and they took great care of our room while changing out futons. The rooms are both beautiful and perfectly clean. The location is within walking distance of Gion district and some of the most popular sights and shops in Kyoto. The traditional breakfasts are perfect for anybody looking for authentic Japanese cuisine, just make sure to purchase them in advance. I would highly recommend this place for anybody interested in staying at a traditional Ryokan!

Quiet and clean property. We got to experience a traditional Japanese-style room. Lobby was a little warm but the room was cool and comfortable. Room was spacious for our family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teens). Property was close to many sites and shopping areas. The staff were very helpful. We left our phone in an Uber and the hotel staff were so helpful in getting the phone back for us. Would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful ryokan in a great location! The staff are so friendly and accommodating and the entire place is very very clean, only complaint is the beds are very uncomfortable for a forigners standards the futon cushion is almost non existent and you will feel like sleeping on hard floor with an uncomfortable pillow.. but otherwise amazing experence!

Although the room was spacious and clean, the futons were very uncomfortable. It is in a nice location in Gion, close to beautiful streets, but not so close (15min walk) to a train station. Bring your eye masks as the room is very light in the morning.

Our family had a great experience staying at Ryokan Kinoe. It has all the traditional Japanese accommodations. Large rooms, tatami floors, Japanese kimono/ robes, experience public bath if you want but each room has it’s own bath, shower & separate toilet. Very quiet area but walking distance to Gion/ downtown area of Kyoto, temples & shrines. The traditional Japanese meal/ dinner is also a must experience! Excellent place to stay & the staff is very friendly & helpful. Highly recommended!

Overall it was a bit overrated. The pictures did not exactly correspond to the real situation, probably it used to be like that once upon a time, but it needs to be updated for sure. The experience was ok. The area was comfortable and quiet. The hotel was warm and clean, the room was spacious, but a bit worn. The ratio price-service was acceptable.

Great location in the Gion area. Room was nice, futons on the floor were a little tight and pillows were hard, but overall the room was comfortable. Nice to have sink outside the toilet and shower room. Breakfast was served in dining room.

직원이 모자르다는 이유로 청소가 늦어져 체크인도 30분 딜레이 되고 또 직원부족으로 가이세키도 원랜 식구끼리만 편하게 먹길 바란건데 방으로 갖다주지 않고 2층으로 가서 다른 손님들과 다같이 모여 먹는 방식이였고요 음식도 다른사람이 올린 사진과 비교했을때 매우…좀 그랬어요.불편함을 감수하는 것에 대해 금액절충이 되는것도 아니고…80만원 치고는 쏘쏘.그래도 영어로 대화 가능한부분 높이사고 직원은 친절했고 방은 좋았는데 서비스 미흡에 조금 실망했습니다.

The property was rather basic and the limited staff were not the friendliest folk. Everywhere else we stayed or visited in Japan felt welcoming; the Kinoe felt like we were an intrusion. No one helped us "figure out" how to use the room (where light switches were, how to turn off the extremely noisy room fan, how to work the noisy AC, etc.). No greeting whenever you would arrive back at the hotel. It felt cold and univiting.

There’s nothing not to love about Kinoe! The staff are warm, welcoming and positively charming,. The facility is beautifully appointed and the room was spacious and lovely. We only stayed one night but from the moment we stepped inside it felt welcoming and comfortable. The staff were attentive and nearly psychic in attending to our needs with helpful tips and suggestions that enabled us to see much more than I thought we would. The location is a quick walk from many attractions in the Gion area and when we’d walked over 15k steps it was a quick cab or train ride to get back. We contemplated renting kimono nearby - there are a dozen shops within a block or two (would recommend reservations for some of the nicer shops) but decided against it as it was raining. Had it not been the first visit to Kyoto for some of our party, we could have happily stayed in at Kinoe and relaxed there - the folks in our group that did try the public bath came back and said that they had never been so relaxed. I will definitely recommend this ryokan!

The location is a quick walk from many attractions in the Gion area and when we’d walked over 15k steps it was a quick cab or train ride to get back. We contemplated renting kimono nearby - there are a dozen shops within a block or two (would recommend reservations for some of the nicer shops) but decided against it as it was raining. Had it not been the first visit to Kyoto for some of our party, we could have happily stayed in at Kinoe and relaxed there - the folks in our group that did try the public bath came back and said that they had never been so relaxed. I will definitely recommend this ryokan!

We really loved our stay at Ryokan the Kinoe. It was easy walking distance to the big sights in Gion. The staff from the time we dropped our bags off early were very friendly and accommodating. Many spoke English, which was a nice surprise. We upgraded to include the dinner and breakfast options and we're so glad we did. When we arrived we were given options for the dinner time and the breakfast time. Dinner was served in our room, breakfast was in dining room. Both were delicious, filling and so interesting. We felt extremely well taken care of and would definitely recommend this to others. Ours was a one night stay. Duomo Arigato Gozimasu!

Overall a very wonderful Ryokan expierence! We paid for both the dinner and breakfast, both of which were very sensible and delicious. I do believe that it is worth the extra added cost, especially the dinner, which is served in our room. The breakfast was served in a dining room on the 2nd floor, which was still nice but definitely a different feeling. We had the choice to choose from three different time slots: I think we ate at 6:30PM (latest available) and 8:00 AM (2nd option). I will say in terms of service, that I did not feel like the staff was very involved in the process of the expierence as much as I had hoped. For dinner we had a little English menu to explain the dishes in front of us, but this was not true for breakfast. For some members of our party who were unfamiliar with Japanese food, a little explaination would have been wonderful. I felt similarly about the lack of explaination about the public baths and our yukatas. Perhaps this expection was unrealistic and imposing of me, but something to note for those who had a similar expectation. For my party, we were shown our rooms, explained the TV remote and left alone for the entirety of the stay. Note on public bath- it is TINY. Do not come with the expectation of a proper onsen type bath. It comfortably fits 4 ppl MAX. Bedroom was beautiful and clean, futon beds were firm but comfortable. They allow you to store luggage after checkout which was very wondeful. We stored until 3PM for free.

This is a great spot in Kyoto. Tons of temples and gardens in easy walking distance. You can also walk to pontocho alley and Nishiki market easily. An area with beautiful antique shop is a few blocks away. Even if only so do shopping. The rooms were very comfortable. Well stocked with cold water and tea you can make yourself. Lovely tea set in room. Keurig coffee or tea in the lobby area for at will use. Very friendly staff. Though some members did not speak English well. Google translate on your smart phone helped communicate. The staff was ready to make restaurant suggestion of all types. Noodle house to sushi. Look forward to staying here the next time we are in Kyoto.

Although the room was spacious and clean, the futons were very uncomfortable. It is in a nice location in Gion, close to beautiful streets, but not so close (15min walk) to a train station. Bring your eye masks as the room is very light in the morning.

Neat royukan in the Gion district of Kyoto. Stayed here for our final night in Japan and no regrets! Quiet area with numerous walkable dining options. Close to Kyoto metor lines, and a 20 minute ride to Kyoto station for ¥230.

This is a great location right in Gion, and a classic Japanese style in. We ended up booking two days, one with the meal plan and one without. The meal was very well prepared traditional Japanese fare, everything tasted very good and was well prepared. The service in the room was very cool as well. We wanted to experience the more classical Japanese tradition, so we stayed in the room with the futons directly on the floor. I loved the experience, but did find the futon lacked the padding I was hoping for, so if you find yourself in a similar situation, what I did was make use of the additional blankets provided to add some padding, and it worked very well.

Truly beautiful place, very close to old Kyoto (5 minutes walk to Gion,10 mins walk across river and to the mass of restaurants, 5 mins walk from Nene-no-Michi and associated temples and gardens). Exquisite breakfast, and nice traditional bath.

This Ryokan was fantastic. The staff serving us were very polite and helpful, and they took great care of our room while changing out futons. The rooms are both beautiful and perfectly clean. The location is within walking distance of Gion district and some of the most popular sights and shops in Kyoto. The traditional breakfasts are perfect for anybody looking for authentic Japanese cuisine, just make sure to purchase them in advance. I would highly recommend this place for anybody interested in staying at a traditional Ryokan!

How to ruin your stay in Japanese traditional hotel? Tell you guest at check in that kaiseki dinner must be booked one week beforehand. No emails or prior communication. Just complete disappointment when you arrive. Kaiseki dinner was the reason why we choose that hotel, otherwise we would stay somewhere else. Same for breakfast - they require 3 day notice for booking.

Wonderful Ryokan. A new and unique breakfast each day was a special touch on top of the Kaiseki dinner (all of which were very Japanese flavours- we loved, but may not be for those who prefer western flavours). The only thing would be that it would be nice to make the booking all in one rather than having to book the kaiseki night separately. Would very happily return.
