Sumas Mountain Lodge

Staff is friendly and accommodating. No elevator and rooms are on the second floor

The soaking tubs are wonderful and the decor was nice for our weekend up north. It was very comfortable. On a side note, we did not see an elevator and notice of not having one would have been nice as my boyfriend injured a knee before our trip. He could climb the stairs, it was just slow.

Our room was clean. Amanda was great - seemed as though she was working double shifts every day we stayed. The room is not set up well if you are travelling to the area for hiking or other outdoor activities - the room simply does not have enough horizontal surfaces on which to place things - consequently we had to lay our luggage on the floor. The room was clean which is important. However, the rest of the property was dusty - walls, ceiling lights and chandelier, etc. appear to have never been dusted. Even painting the front door would help the outside appearance when you arrive. The property is directly on a main street with constant 24 x 7 semi truck traffic coming through the Canadian - U.S. border crossing. However, the noise was not that noticeable in our room which faced towards the north. There is a very small fridge, but the only microwave is in the hallway which is odd. Backj to the room (Room 7 I believe) there is only a single straight chair - no other chairs in the room to allow a guest to sit down. It would be helpful to add a comfortable chair and a desk or table into the room. The antique appearing desk and bookcase simply do not provide the ability to have your things available. There is an onsite restaurant which is convenient, but the prices are high. There is no ice machine - you have to go to the restaurant with an ice bucket in order to get ice. If the staff is busy, you have to wait until they notice you!

This was an older vintage typer room, great property, easy to find, ample parking, nice staff, easy check in, very comfortable beds, nice coffee station with mini fridge. Loved the balcony and nice restaurant to get breakfast at with great service. It's right on the road, so not totally quiet if out on the balcony, but still very nice. Room #6, The shower could use some updating. The faucet didn't work well in it and the curved rod was on backwards so the shower curtain pointed into the shower which limited your space.

It was comfy and quiet. The food at the restaurant downstairs was excellent!

We really enjoyed our time in Sumas, less than a mile from the Canadian border. This place is centrally located to visit the North Cascades, Mount Baker, Bellingham and southern British Columbia. The staff was super nice and helpful and even did our laundry (for a reasonable charge), which allowed us to spend more time hiking and visiting this beautiful area of Washington. The hotel itself has a woodsy charm and the restaurant and bar on site is very convenient.

Room was simple, clean and had comfortable beds. The restaurant had good food. The balconies needed to be cleaned off. Main negative was that the air conditioner was insufficient and it was hot in the room, which made sleeping nearly impossible

There were flying bugs. I’m so sick of dirty hotel rooms.

The room was great, felt like you were staying in a little cabin. The only issue we had was that the tub faucet did not work, we had to fill it with the shower handle, and it also did not look like it had been cleaned properly so we wiped it out before we used it. Also the Keurig in the room had the descale light on so it needed to be cleaned. The staff was very friendly and the food in the restaurant was good. We would definitely stay again.

The AC smelled of mildew, tub dripped (not usually a problem but it was just a few feet from the bed), I could not get the TV to work to watch local channels to save my life. It's a quaint property for the area, though. Restaurant was great.

Room is nice with the indoor whirpool tub for relaxing after a long drive, however bathroom/shower is small and the deck is dirty and there is a wasp at the restaurant.

Good overall. Great food, great waitress. Fairly clean room. Rustic. But dirty sink, lots of shaving hairs. Smelly comforter, like armpits. Fireplace area closes with restaurant. I would stay again, its the best before Canada.

Rooms are clean and comfortable

There was no shower, and they didn’t bother to mention it at check in. My husband had to stand in the tub with me and hold up a shower nozzle so I could wash. If we knew, we have mentioned it at the desk at check in, but it was 11pm at night when we got back to our room and we were too tired to go complain or ask for a room change. Otherwise it was cute and clean. I loved the ambiance, minus the lack of a shower.

Unexpectedly cute room! I actually really liked this place, since I was just passing through the area, I wasn't looking for a lot . Only downside, my room had spotty wifi. Although this may depend on which room you are assigned.

Our room was very comfortable and spacious. The restaurant was very good and so reasonably priced. Our waitresses were exceptional both nights and the fresh pear crumble was amazing!

The room was spacious and had a great log cabin atmosphere from the antique furniture to the quilt on the bed. No one tells you there are only stairs to the second floor where the rooms are and that the refrigerator only works when you leave the light switch on. But these things pale when you add up the amenities of a huge jetted tub, a Keurig to have your coffee on the balcony, and one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. The kicker is that all of this is above a great restaurant and bar where the food and service was hard to beat.

This was cute and convenient for a quick stay. It is right on the highway going to the border crossing so big trucks go by at all times of day. Also, the rooms with jet tubs have no shower just a shower spray on a hose. Makes for a cold experience. We didn’t try the hot tub jets because we were there a short time.

We loved our stay here. The jetted tubs in the room were a highlight. Lovely staff and handy having the restaurant downstairs. Great fireplace. The highway is a little noisy right outside, but not too bad.

It was a good stay, my room was comfortable, but not updated with sufficient electrical outlets, usb ports, and microwave, etc.

The customer service was great. We had a small issue with being able to access our room due to the battery in the automatic lock dying, but they were able to diagnose and fix the problem quickly to get us back in. The room was clean and comfortable, and my son loved sleeping in the bunkbed. We had breakfast with a large group of family in the Bob's Burgers restaurant downstairs, and the server was pleasant to talk to. We had a group of 8, and they did a great job of delivering drinks and good food in a timely manner. We will be considering the lodge first for future visits when we drive up.

Great check-in service. Although I let the hotel know about my late check-in at short notice and did not have Openkey accsess, the hotel prepared the room key for me at the front door of lobby and my family could have a good rest. I really appreciate it.

We had such a great stay and plan to return. Very nice room and staff was very helpful and kind. Bob’s Burgers was good for dinner and restaurant staff was equally helpful.

The staff were very slow to check us in, partly because the same staff who check you in were running the attached restaurant. Upon check-in, t ey reported they had no room keys available and forced me to download an app to open the lock wirelessly, which never actually worked. They eventually found extra keys and got us in. The room was great and the staff were very apologetic, but it was a rough start to our stay.

The staff is always so wonderful and helpful. We've been coming here for many years and it has become a great place for the family to come for get-together meals at Bob's Burger and Brew. The rooms are clean and the beds are and bedding are top notch. The TVs have great streaming options. The topper about this place is that the rooms are so charming. Wonderful northwest woods motif. I love this place.

Cute little lodge just six short blocks from the Canadian border. Great location for doing some day-hiking at Mt. Baker, which we did on the front end and at No. Cascades N.P. which we did the following day. Wonderful Mom & Pop ice Cream place caddy-corner across the street! Though we did not eat there, they have a restaurant right there as part of the same building/establishment for nice convenience. My wife loved the jacuzzi bath in our room!

Super cute room. Older building renovated with charm. Very clean. We took queen room with big jetted tub, which is the room at front of building. Can see Mt Baker in distance, but new Shell station across street distracted from perfect scene. Building has really cute rustic decor, like an old log mansion with third floor view tower. Room faced street but fan drowned out traffic noise and we had a great sleep. Hot water was not super continuous but we still managed a super hot bath. Restaurant was great. Service was great. Loved the hibiscus tea mocktail. We would go back to stay.

If you are traveling between either direction of the US or Canada this can be a convenient stop. The restaurant for dinner and breakfast was very good. The room was iconic lodge style with relics of the era. Fun. I'm ready for my next stay. Thank you.

A nice quiet place to stay while in Sumas. There is a restaurant and bar downstairs open for lunch and dinner with plenty of food options as well. Across the street there is a good ice cream shop and a grocery shop as well which is nice. There is also a park within walking distance as well. Besides this I like the log lodge feeling.

Good burgers friendly service. Cute clean modest room. Great breakfast!

Room 9 with a queen and a hot tub has a private balcony as well and a nice table and chairs in the room as well. Even though it is right above the bar, which closes no later than 10pm, it is so well sound proofed that you can't hear a thing. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are clean too. The food at Bob's Burger and Brew is good and the menu has many choices besides burgers.
