DON’T STAY HERE. I booked this thinking I was staying at a nice bed & breakfast. The listing promised a “local cuisine breakfast.” I was fed up with staying at Air BnB’s and small hotels. My friend and I spend more on this for the inn experience. The afternoon of my stay I received a message from the inn keeper that she didn’t prepare breakfasts in summer but food would be left for us to cook it ourselves. Really? Height of the tourist season? In the morning the front door of the main house where the kitchen was located was locked. I pushed my way in behind a chair with a side door to try to be a good sport and make some coffee. When I turned the kitchen lights on I was disgusted by dirty dishes stacked in the sink and counter tops. IT WAS ALL CRAWLING WITH LARGE BLACK ANTS. I was in NO WAY about to clean up after others to make myself a cup of coffee when I paid $150.ish to stay there. When I contacted the inn keeper I was ghosted. Hotels gave me a $25. credit and a $50. gift card. NOT WORTH IT. Peterson and near-by Lanesboro are very small towns. It was impossible to up and find another place to stay. If you want to be an inn keeper, it seems you should be working in the summer tourist season or close it down and don’t take my money. Also- side bar- the smoke detectors were missing from my room and the kitchen.

We had a great experience staying at The Wen. It's a cool property that is fun to explore and roomy enough so there are many different spots to hang out. We loved the large, covered front porch. Located right next to the Root River bike trail so no issues with getting out for a ride. The owner was very thoughtful and took great care of us while we were staying. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a quiet getaway that still has access to everything you want in the area. Make sure to go check out the International Owl Center in Houston, MN!
