My favourite stay in Japan. Right from the start the hospitality is top notch. The staff kindly kept our shoes for us at the entrance (no shoes are permitted in the ryokan as it is covered with tatami) everytime we came and went. The whole ryokan is so beautiful, traditionally decorated but modern at the same time. We got a room with a private Onsen because we had tattoos. The bed was super comfortable, pillows were customisable, but the beds were singles pushed together with separate quilts so it was a little weird for us. The best part of our stay was food and freebies. Our stay included breakfast and dinner. Both kaiseki style. Some dishes are a little bit much for our palate (preserved side dishes) but overall really really yummy, especially when paired with their recommended sake. Freebies-wise the lounge next to the public baths had free-flow draft beer, soft drinks, tea/coffee, snack, ice cream 24/7 and it was just a dream to sit there in the evening chugging beer after a soak in the onsen. From 10-10.30pm everyone also gathers at the lounge for free-flow ramen (includes chashu) which is freshly cooked in front of you and so delicious after a long day of walking around Hakone. The only con is the location as it is situated on top of steep hill. Don’t be fooled by google maps when it says it is only 300-400m from the station, pulling our luggage up that steep incline was quite a workout. Overall loved loved this place and would definitely return.

Amazing ryoken in Gora. Close to Gora station for access to the Cable Car to the Hakone Ropeway. 15 minute walk to the Hakone Open Air museum and steps from Gora Park. Rooms are beautifully appointed, open air room onsen was a plus. Public onsen and sauna also top notch. Free snacks and drinks, including alcoholic beverages. Staff were incredibly attentive. We did not partake of meals or spa services but the spa services were affordable. Highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a great ryoken in the Hakone area.

Toda a staff foi muito atenciosa e gentil. O quarto era super espaçoso, o maior que ficamos durante nossa viagem. Os onsens são maravilhosos, acabamos nem usando a banheira do quarto porque os onsens publico e privados eram perfeitos. Tudo perfeito! Super recomendamos o Suiun.
Toda a staff foi muito atenciosa e gentil. O quarto era super espaçoso, o maior que ficamos durante nossa viagem. Os onsens são maravilhosos, acabamos nem usando a banheira do quarto porque os onsens publico e privados eram perfeitos. Tudo perfeito! Super recomendamos o Suiun.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating to non-Japanese speakers. The included breakfast and dinner were so filling and immaculate. The stay includes complimentary unlimited Beer, Wine and Spirits.The 10pm complimentary ramen was amazing. It was lovely wearing the complimentary Yukata and Kimono. The in-room Onsen was very relaxing and the three private Onsen were a very unique touch.

The Onsen had both private and public baths, as well as an open air bath attached to your room. We also enjoyed a massage that was very relaxing. The food was very good as well.

The room was spacious, clean and as shown in the images. It had everything we needed and was very comfortable. The service at Suiun was exceptional with friendly staff. It was a pleasure staying at Suiun and we would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Hakone.

The Suiun is beautiful and amazing! The staff are incredibly polite and accommodating. The property has a beautiful private and public onsen, with options for rooms that have their own onsen. The views of the surrounding mountains are gorgeous. The Japanese style breakfast they offer is impressive, varied, and filling. I will be staying here again in the future.

Super nice onsen hotel in a traditional atmosphere. The staff were very polite and attentive. The rooms are spacious and the private onsen on the balcony is a definite highlight. The breakfasts are huge!

We loved this ryokan experience. Our room was spacious and beautifully designed. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Our room had its own onsen with hot spring water. We were given yukatas to wear throughout the hotel. Meals were excellent with personal service and kaiseki dinners. All in all, a great Japanese experience.

Simply amazing experience - kind and friendly staff; delicious snacks/drinks; to-dream-of kind of breakfast; and hot spring baths (in-room, private, AND shared/sauna); selection of yukata; amenities just 5 out of 5. Did not feel like leaving and a huge thank you to the staff - made us feel very welcome and the entire experience completely surpassed my expectations.

If you are vegetarian and don’t speak the language don’t even bother with this facility, we paid $400/night - staff was super unhelpful in finding a place to eat and arrange for taxi ride to the train station, unusual for a country who is so customer focused.

A beautiful ryokan with exceptional service. Our family group of six (four adult children) stayed three nights half board in two Japanese Western Style Quad rooms, very large accommodation by Japanese standards with two x two-bed separate sleeping areas in each plus a living area. Food was delicious, particularly at dinner, with cheap reasonable wine and good beers. Meals are served in private areas commensurate with your group size. Our group of six had a brilliant private room. The lounge area downstairs is open bar with ramen served each night at 10pm. Staff were always polite and attentive, we had a wonderful waitress one night called Mochizuki who was a delight. You are a fairly steep uphill 5 -7 minute walk from Gora station (which we happily did many times) or you can take the cable car from Gora station for one stop and you are outside the front door. Could not recommend Suiun more highly (this is our third ryokan over the years). ps: if vegan is your thing, best to stay close to the inner city suburbs of Melbourne or L.A. This is rural, traditional Japan and not for you.

Toda a staff foi muito atenciosa e gentil. O quarto era super espaçoso, o maior que ficamos durante nossa viagem. Os onsens são maravilhosos, acabamos nem usando a banheira do quarto porque os onsens publico e privados eram perfeitos. Tudo perfeito! Super recomendamos o Suiun.

Staff from Manager to all levels were a bit clueless to take care of customers with different needs such as vegetarian food. We went without dinner. Staff couldn’t arrange a taxi for us. We paid 4* price but the experience we got felt like a youth hostel. Morning coffee was from a vending machine, no unman being any where to service. All in all will not recommend this place.

Hotel is gorgeous and such a great experience. The Onsen is great, not too crowded. In room onsen/outdoor bath was a fantastic addition and really made it feel exclusive. Expensive, but the included meals are a whole experience in themselves and worth the extra cost. A great way to experience the area. Check out the outdoor sculpture park nearby.

My favourite stay in Japan. Right from the start the hospitality is top notch. The staff kindly kept our shoes for us at the entrance (no shoes are permitted in the ryokan as it is covered with tatami) everytime we came and went. The whole ryokan is so beautiful, traditionally decorated but modern at the same time. We got a room with a private Onsen because we had tattoos. The bed was super comfortable, pillows were customisable, but the beds were singles pushed together with separate quilts so it was a little weird for us. The best part of our stay was food and freebies. Our stay included breakfast and dinner. Both kaiseki style. Some dishes are a little bit much for our palate (preserved side dishes) but overall really really yummy, especially when paired with their recommended sake. Freebies-wise the lounge next to the public baths had free-flow draft beer, soft drinks, tea/coffee, snack, ice cream 24/7 and it was just a dream to sit there in the evening chugging beer after a soak in the onsen. From 10-10.30pm everyone also gathers at the lounge for free-flow ramen (includes chashu) which is freshly cooked in front of you and so delicious after a long day of walking around Hakone. The only con is the location as it is situated on top of steep hill. Don’t be fooled by google maps when it says it is only 300-400m from the station, pulling our luggage up that steep incline was quite a workout. Overall loved loved this place and would definitely return.

Suiun was a beautiful place to stay in the serene Hakone. It was a perfect relaxing contrast to the busy city life. The hot spring tubs were zen and so enjoyable. Wearing a kimono around the property was a fun addition to the experience and the pjs were so comfortable.

Ce ryokan est vraiment authentique. Nous avions pris 2 chambres avec onsen privatif. Cadre paisible, proche des fumerolles, du lac ashi et du musée plein air. Bien prendre le funiculaire depuis la gare car il n'y a plus qu'à descendre 250m avec les valises. Pris un peu élevé. Pour moi, il manquait juste un micro-ondes dans la chambre

Our family group of six (four adult children) stayed three nights half board in two Japanese Western Style Quad rooms, very large accommodation by Japanese standards with two x two-bed separate sleeping areas in each plus a living area. Food was delicious, particularly at dinner, with cheap reasonable wine and good beers. Meals are served in private areas commensurate with your group size. Our group of six had a brilliant private room. The lounge area downstairs is open bar with ramen served each night at 10pm. Staff were always polite and attentive, we had a wonderful waitress one night called Mochizuki who was a delight. You are a fairly steep uphill 5 -7 minute walk from Gora station (which we happily did many times) or you can take the cable car from Gora station for one stop and you are outside the front door. Could not recommend Suiun more highly (this is our third ryokan over the years). ps: if vegan is your thing, best to stay close to the inner city suburbs of Melbourne or L.A. This is rural, traditional Japan and not for you.

Amazing ryoken in Gora. Close to Gora station for access to the Cable Car to the Hakone Ropeway. 15 minute walk to the Hakone Open Air museum and steps from Gora Park. Rooms are beautifully appointed, open air room onsen was a plus. Public onsen and sauna also top notch. Free snacks and drinks, including alcoholic beverages. Staff were incredibly attentive. We did not partake of meals or spa services but the spa services were affordable. Highly recommend staying here if you are looking for a great ryoken in the Hakone area.

Excellent property that is close to the train station and cable car. I would recommend this property and also stay again. Yukutas were not plus size friendly but this didn’t have any effect on our wonderful experience here.

The Suiun is beautiful and amazing! The staff are incredibly polite and accommodating. The property has a beautiful private and public onsen, with options for rooms that have their own onsen. The views of the surrounding mountains are gorgeous. The Japanese style breakfast they offer is impressive, varied, and filling. I will be staying here again in the future.

Amazing and very attentive service since the moment we checked in. The room is very clean and spacious. Love the onsens at the hotel. The dinner was nice but I won't say it's spectacular. Breakfast in my opinion is better than dinner. Ramen during supper time was a good touch.

Simply amazing experience - kind and friendly staff; delicious snacks/drinks; to-dream-of kind of breakfast; and hot spring baths (in-room, private, AND shared/sauna); selection of yukata; amenities just 5 out of 5. Did not feel like leaving and a huge thank you to the staff - made us feel very welcome and the entire experience completely surpassed my expectations.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights at this quiet, relaxing, traditional hotel. The staff were helpful and keen to answer all our questions. The highlight was the private Onsen on our balcony. The one thing we weren’t so happy with was the ‘western style breakfast’. It wasn’t particularly appetising but definitely didn’t distract from an enjoyable stay. Thank you.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating to non-Japanese speakers. The included breakfast and dinner were so filling and immaculate. The stay includes complimentary unlimited Beer, Wine and Spirits.The 10pm complimentary ramen was amazing. It was lovely wearing the complimentary Yukata and Kimono. The in-room Onsen was very relaxing and the three private Onsen were a very unique touch.

No reservamos desayunos incluidos al momento de reservar, dejándolo abierto a decidir en el momento. Sin embargo quisimos pedir de desayunar una mañana y no nos dieron desayuno, ya que no estaba contemplado desde la reservación. Así que considerar que si no reservas con desayuno, no tienes muchas opciones porque aparte en todo Gora no abre ningún restaurante hasta las 10am. La habitación muy bonita, muy cómoda y muy limpia. Un estilo muy japonés y que te necesitas adecuar a su estilo
No reservamos desayunos incluidos al momento de reservar, dejándolo abierto a decidir en el momento. Sin embargo quisimos pedir de desayunar una mañana y no nos dieron desayuno, ya que no estaba contemplado desde la reservación. 兎に角全ての対応が良い.ほとんどが日本人で.楽でした。食事も量丁度良く．当然内容が素晴らしい.特に朝食(和定食)が素晴らしく.大浴場も良いのが当然ですが.お部屋の露天風呂抜群!

Wish we could have stayed for another night. Staff was incredible, property is fantastic with excellent central location near Gora station. Walked from Suiun to The Hakone Open-Air Museum easily with the best Lawsons along the way. We did not make it to Hakone Gora Park but it was right next door, down the street was a Hakone Tozan Railway stop. Enjoyed a snack and drinks at Gora Brewery and Grill which was right by Suiun as well. The private room onsen was amazing, loved the option for private public onsen, as well as the public onsen. Dinner was incredible, unfortunately we were too full to enjoy breakfast. Amenities were amazing, this included the pillow library, snacks, drinks, ramen, etc. Loved the in room pour over coffee option to include DIY fresh ground beans. Hope to return to Suiun in the future!
