ARTOTEL Gajahmada Semarang

Vehicle access is weird with something like a porte cochere on the first floor. Pedestrian access is stranger with the simplest being to go to the car park and walk out through its vehicle access. We arrived before check-in time and, whereas many hotels will let you check in early if your room is ready, we were firmly told that check in was not until 2pm. The towels in the bathroom were a bit grey. We had dinner at the hotel and service was very slow. Despite that, when my meal arrived, it was cold.

Small hotel but room is clean. Wear and tear can be seen though. There is no hair dryer in the room (which I thought is basic amenities) and was told that it has run out. Breakfast was pretty simple.

I love Artotel but I found some animals in the bathroom 😔

Pros: 1. Location of the hotel, it's within walking distance to many of Semarang's top culinary hot spots. 2. Layout of the room is great. 3. Housekeeping staff were friendly and courteous and willing to help. Cons: 1. Towels and bed sheets were old and brownish, made me wonder if they were used to mop the floor. 2. Stains on the table and walls. Small ants were ever present on the table. 3. NO hairdryer in the room. Got to request for one and then depending on who you talked to, given a time frame after which the hairdryer had to be returned. 4. Unfriendly female front office staff, made me wonder why she's in this line.
