Balfour Arms

On the plus side the bed was clean and comfortable and there was a bus stop nearby. However, there was no food available on the day of arrival. Our bedroom was directly above the bar area where there was a loud party till after midnight. We were warned on arrival to expect noise as. "It is a pub". This advice had not been forwarded to us by email as claimed. The lamps in the room were very dusty. The window couldn't be closed properly. The shower had black mould around the base along with a bar of used soap from a previous occupant. The toilet seat was loose and the toilet flush button broken. Breakfast over a period of three days was chaotic. A coffee machine which could barely fill an espresso cup for a simple coffee and no cutlery or bowls some days. Cups which hadn't been cleaned properly. There was frozen bread in the bread bin and partly frozen blueberry muffins to supplement the available cereal which amounted to packets of cocoa pops on the last day. The cooked breakfast varied in quality from day to day but included cold plates with barely cooked bacon and eggs benedict muffin you couldn't cut with a knife. When these matters were brought to the attention of the staff ( The hotel cleaner?) we were reminded that breakfast was complimentary! Fellow guests had similar experiences. I have never provided such a review before. Had we been able, we would have found other accommodation in the area A.S.A.P. We have photographs to verify what we experienced.

Looked ok from the pictures, but just badly maintained and cleaned. Stickyness on the table and menus in the room, dirty spoons and the bed had hair in it. Wasn’t expecting the Marriott but the room would have been lovely if it was maintained and clean.

Beautiful room, tea and coffee available. Food in pub lovely but pub garden could do with some attention

Good breakfast and very good staff.

The room was clean and tidy with a fan to help with extreme heat which was good . Unfortunately we had an issue with the shower only hot or very hot which was not great in the heat we've been having . Breakfast was very good and the staff were all helpful.qiite noisy at closing time but you are above a pub so expected.
