The pool, deck and property are the best features. Pool was heated and clean. Towels and pool toys are provided. Nice lounge chairs, tables with umbrellas & chairs. Grounds are beautiful with a pond and waterfall. We saw deer each morning grazing. Corn hole, a volleyball net, and fire pits with chairs were placed on the grass. It really is a nice piece of land with trees along the back, so you don’t see any other buildings. The rooms are very small and all of the buildings desperately need to be renovated, at the very least thoroughly cleaned. Food from the previous guests was under the sink. Cobwebs, chipped counters, rust, uneven floors, and a musty smell throughout. Condensation on the inside of the windows. The three beds were made with sheets and pillows. As for blankets; one bed had a comforter, one had a small throw, and the third didn’t have a blanket. Beds were semi-comfortable, but that is always subjective. Bathrooms were as clean as possible with towels provided, and warm water was instantaneous. Kitchenette had a microwave, sink, and coffee maker; with coffee provided. We brought our French Press, so we didn’t use the coffee maker. No utensils or dinnerware provided. TVs in both bedrooms with cable; however, no instructions to run either, and there was two remotes for each TV. What appeared to be fake TV fireplaces above the sinks, but we didn’t turn them on. The staff was very casual but pleasant upon check-in and check-out. Located close to town and amenities.

Enjoyed a relaxing four days exploring South Haven and Saugatuck. Pool was great at the end of each day. This is an older Resort with a great history. Very dog friendly. Did reduce dog fee for our two larger dogs. Coffee always available near front desk with a smile.

Nice grounds, plenty of and easy parking, clean pool, great big deck, and loved the fire pit. Stars for days due to location being tucked away and few lights. Mattress was uncomfortable, sinking in the middle, and much too soft but room was mostly clean.

Quaint and very charming little resort. Just a quick drive into town. Wonderful property with a heated pool, walking trails, outdoor games and cooking facilities. Rooms were minimalist, but provided everything that we needed for the night. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Patsy was great at checking us in & out! Super friendly! Loved there were firepits & they provide the wood at no cost! Even gave us some firestarter for quicker fire & it worked sooo well! Will definitely be back next year!

Terrible! Very dated electric heater on wall, which would never pass OSHA standards. No elevator. Keypad on the outside of room had no numbers. I paid for two nights and we left and stayed in another hotel. Totally unacceptable.

I was in a cottage and not the main hotel. The cottage was old but they did the best they could with the updates. The shower was nice and the grounds was amazing. The pool and landscaping is very nice. But the lady said it was open in the morning "sometime between 8 AM and 10 AM". Is it 8 or 10 because I had two children with me that came to swim in the pool. Also the parking lot was dirt and not close to the building. There was no light by our door and the key pad did not light up- hard to get in the room after dark. I hope they fix that. Also, if you want to be in the middle of the action and walk to something- forget it- this place has nothing near by to walk to.

The property was lovely. The rooms in the Main Motel were very old, need updating in every area including beds, flooring, lighting. The bathroom sink water flow was poor. The flooring was old and very gritty, shoes or socks needed. There were ants in the room, due to the seal on the motel door. There are newer units on the grounds of the Motel and these look to be upgraded. No breakfast. I would not recommend the main House/Motel.

What a great place! A bit cozy for 3 of us in a suite, yet adequate. Loved the property, the staff is amazing, and we'd definitely return!!

Very outdated and noisy from the loud window air conditioning units right at your bed and street noise. Do not book a double room. You will be cramped in a dingy musky smelling dark room cluttered with everything they could fit in it in every corner. The only positive is the grounds around the property that actually look like what’s advertised.

This place is older, but is really well-maintained and super clean. I loved it.

Perfect hotel for me, my partner, and dog! Other hotels and airbnbs in the area were extra expensive and/or not pet-friendly due to LDW, and we didn’t want to spend $1,000+ for just a 3-night stay. If you’re looking for a hotel that’s affordable, perfectly located, has a lot of outdoor activities, very dog friendly, and a midwest/vintage charm, Sun & Sand is a great choice. While the rooms are a bit outdated, they were clean and well-kept. The bathroom was especially clean. Some of these reviews scared us, so we brought our own bedding just in case the rooms were as bad as some people said. They were not bad at all. The hotel bedding was also fine — clean and fresh. The room was also not “super small.” It was the perfect size for the three of us, one suitcase, duffle bag, and 2 totes. The only con was that the plumbing in the shower was a bit clogged so the water took a very long time to drain. The mattress was also a bit too soft for our liking, but we slept well. We also enjoyed how family friendly the hotel was. Lots of people outside grilling, laying by the pool, playing corn hole or just relaxing. Great vibes overall!

I liked that they allow dogs and the property is large enough to roam around. I did not like that there's geese poop everywhere on the property and you constantly have to watch where you step. Also, the owner decided to mow the grass the morning of checkout at 9am which was very loud and woke all of us up. He should have waited to start this AFTER checkout at 11am. This is a no frills motel. Definitely needs some updating and repairs. The rooms were clean though.

The Sun and Sand is a nice peaceful place to relax after a busy day of sightseeing and tourist attractions. The rooms are small, but clean and updated.

Nice stay, but neighbors were very loud all night. They were pounding the walls.

Nothing what the pics show. Not that we came for it, but there’s no more beach if you bring kids. Rooms much smaller than expected. For the price, it was ok and a place to sleep.

We like that it is out of the way, away from town, but still very close. The cable tv wasn’t working. We reported it and said they would send someone. Almost two hours later we went to check and were told it’s out all over and they’re working on it. That’s not their fault but they didn’t let us know that nobody was coming.

Room had no fan in bathroom, no dresser or luggage rack, no extra toilet paper or Kleenex, fridge froze everything. Outside lights made it impossible to sleep even with blinds (beige).

The property is beautiful with a waterfall, well maintained pool but the internet and satellite TV were non existent. We got no help resolving the TV issue.

Room was small. 14x16 area. Excluding bathroom. Tub took forever to go down. Water pressure was on the low side but was tolerable. Very basic room. No USB charging. No nightstands on either side which was a pain. Pool looked clean and kept up.

Very rude office staff, especially Terry and Becky. We were accused of using the pool and being on the grounds before check in which we were not. We were charged for an additional night which we did not book. Very difficult to obtain refund. Staff uncooperative and inhospitable.They blamed Travelocity for everything. Room was clean but very small. Beds terribly soft. Mattresses should be thrown out. Pool was nice. I would never stay here again; I would rather sleep in the car.

it’s a cute place, and the front desk staff are AMAZING!

In general the property is in overall poor but acceptable condition. My room had an issue with the heat that would not shut off. The room was 85+ all night despite the setting on the baseboard heat. I was only able to sleep 2 hours and had a terrible experience. Bringing this to managements attention, they turned it around and said it was my fault, user error. This could be further from the truth. I believe customer service is paramount as I am in the service industry myself and go above and beyond to make sure my guests experience is 5 stars. Sun and Sand is 2 stars for the facility and less than 1 star for service.

This is a small modest property, Built in 1902 so a few quirky things, if they did not work the staff was right there and got it fixed immediately. Overall a great value for your money.

Had a great time at Sun n Sand Resort! The service was top notch, the beds and pillows were comfortable and the hot and cold water worked well. This is a great affordable place to stay! I also must mention that Bob who works there went above and beyond my expectations and helped me out after my car got a flat tire. He was very kind, professional and knowledgeable. I really appreciated him taking the time to bring me to the local auto parts store to pick up tools and for helping me change out my flat tire! If you’re looking for an affordable place to stay close to South Haven this is your spot. They also provide you with firewood to have your own bonfire as well, which is another nice touch. Thanks again for the great stay Sun n Sand Resort!

The property needs lots of attention. I know it’s an older property but it needs to have some care. I love staying here. I will be back. Just feel like it needs some foundation work. The water on the roof is catching and leaking on second floor. This needs to be looked at and addressed. I adore this place, I love bringing my kids here. I hope to see it open for many years. It’s simple and clean. The check in process is so easy and the staff is so nice!!

Our check in could not have gone worse. We prepaid for the room but the hotel only had no of us paying even though every receipt that they presented me showed that I had. I had to pay again and then go through hotels.com for a refund. We had booked a family suite with 1 queen and 1 twin over full bunk bed. We were given an accessible suite with a queen and a full bed. My wife and I were traveling with are 17-year-old daughter and her boyfriend so the bed situation did not work. One of us had to sleep on the floor our first night. The hotel blamed hotels.com for this issue and said there was nothing they could do. Even after telling them that one of us slept on the floor I was not offered any sort of accommodations. Only after asking for accommodations did the woman at the front offer an air mattress. We made it work but only because we love South Haven that much. The rooms are small and the beds are so so. We did appreciate the grounds surrounding the hotel. There is a beautiful pond and landscaped waterfall, heated pool, and outdoor activities for families. We would not recommend staying here but, if you do, book directly through them as they don't seem to know how hotels.com works.

Really cute property. Staff were terrific. Rooms are small but cute and immaculate. My only complaint is shelf/surface space. There's really nowhere to set anything - not a lot of surfaces which made it a little awkward. Other than that, it was just fine.

Fair price, convenient location between Saugatuck and South Haven.

Yhis is a vintage motel on Blue Star Hwy. It is well kept, clean, service is excellent and the price is right. Within 6 minutes of all the amenities of South Haven.

Was very impressed with the high level of maintenance of the property and grounds! I did not use the pool as I had not brought my suit, but it was sparking clear and inviting. The room was very quiet, though there was some traffic noise from blue star highway in the morning hours- people going to work. Enjoyed my stay.

Nice little inn, quiet and close enough to stores and the beach.

A nice, traditional motel. A budget option that we would definitely use again. The rooms are fine, the staff is nice, the property is great and it's a short drive to the South Haven and the beach.

Ok for the price. Not for staying any longer enjoying the facility. But a place to sleep at and a base camp while you do other things. Far away from publicly available beach.

Loved this place! We biked the Kal-Haven trail and although with a bigger budget we would have stayed in town, this place was a pretty quick ride into town so budget friendly and convenient. Although you need to ride 8-10 minutes to get to town, we were able to buy cold drinks at the front desk and order pizza to our room so we didn't have to ride to town after dark. Our room heat wasn't turned on,but the maintenance person arrived with 15 minutes to turn it on. Room was clean and bright and the property was nice to walk around. There was a swing at the pond that was nice for sunset and a walking path through the woods for a nice stroll. We even went into the walking path to see the northern lights (blocked out the too bright lights around the property). It looks like you can rent this place for a wedding or family reunion. It would be perfect! I'm sure it's crowded and loud in the summertime, but if you're a family with kids it would be a blast. The pool looked clean and there were loads of tables to picnic, lawn games, fire pits, etc. Close to town and beach. Definitely ridable on our bikes, but not walkable. South Haven is definitely a summer town, but very pretty in the fall. Lots of stuff was already closed for the season, but plenty to do. The Michigan maritime museum is worth the visit and they have a little river cruise you can book. We wish we would have done it. The river is really lovely! Overall, highly recommend!

They have everything at the desk. From groceries to beer. All you do is ask and they will provide it. So easy and nice.

Sun N Sand resort was very nice for an older property. The room we had was extremely small( our fault) they have a variety of sizes available. The grounds were very well kept, but the rooms really need updating. The pool was the best part of the resort. It’s spotless and heated. There is free firewood available on the property as well as free ice and coffee all day in the lobby. The staff are very accommodating and helpful. The room was clean, but there was quite a bit of mildew where the tile meets the tub on the floor. I’m allergic to mildew, so it was uncomfortable and the tiny air conditioner didn’t help much. Our first two nights were very hot and unpleasant. Despite all of these things, I would probably come back and choose another room. The resort is Dog friendly which was a plus for us!!

I wish they had a continental breakfast and opened up before 8 o’clock

The room that we had was small but in the quaint comfy way, outside amenities (pond, pool, walking trail, picnic tables) were very nice. Great stay for an affordable price for those not planning on their adventure being the hotel itself.

The Room was clean. The outside of building are pretty rough and dated. There is no bar/ cafe as advertised. They sell bottles of $20 wine,and beer. Had coffee. Pool was nice. Would stay again. Just know what to expect next time.Will have to travel for meals. Town is close.
