Mercure Paignton Hotel

This is a great hotel. Pristine condition, friendly staff and a good sea view. Only one gripe - expensive car park with narrow and clearly insufficient spaces for the guests. We had the last space and had to squeeze the car in between another car and pillars, driver having to exit through the passenger door.

Clean room, free upgrade, nice view, modern and fresh. Good parking. Friendly staff

A truly wonderful hotel that is right on the seafront. Great attentive staff, especially at breakfast. Nothing is too much trouble, order eggs just how you like them. The one and only fault is the toaster...you can either have hot bread or burnt toast! The carpark is very tight and small for the size of the hotel, but we did manage to find a space for all 3 nights of our stay.

Amazing Hotel facilities, rooms large and modern,room and bathrooms great AC,lovely staff. not all rooms have a sea view, we had 2 rear rooms, only downsides not enough parking in hotel it was full when we arrived at 4pm, had to drive around for 20mins, not much street parking, area around hotel needs modernising by the council, a disused multi-storey car park behind, a new Ibis being built next door, could do with cash machine in hotel,

£15 a night to use their car park - don’t bother! Find on the street parking for free!

Hotel it self was great but limited parking lets it down as we has to park 10 mins walk away and carry our luggage which waant a great start ti our stay. Also the reason we booked that hotel was to watch the air show from the hotel seating area but on the satirday night it was shut off for a private party this should have been mentioned when booming.

We had an adapted room for four nights. The room was very spacious. Housekeeping did not make up room one day, no explanation, as it was late when returned to room, we did not bother. Breakfast was very good. Drinks from bar reasonable. Parking was very limited and we were never able to park there . Overall a good hotel for wheelchair users with ramp access.

Rooms,food and staff were all outstanding. Excellent location with a lovely terrace area. Only 1 minute from the beach and high street. Best sleep I've had in a long time.

Overall good, but a bit of confusion at breakfast surrounding food allergies and what was good or not. Room was nice and quiet (rear facing) so slept well. Parking 1st come first served £15/night

The hotel is really nice. Very clean and modern. Overall is was good value for money. Check in was slow because the room wasn’t ready at 3.15pm. The hotel staff seemed more interested in getting the £15 for parking from its customers than anything else, which I thought was expense given that you’re not guaranteed a parking spot in the very small parking area. You can park in the Ibis next door but that only holds around 25 cars.

The building and facilities of the hotel it self was lovely, however the staff were not very helpful, did not seem like they cared about customer satisfaction. When we arrived we were very pleased with the hotel, we asked several questions to staff who didn’t seem to care. One night we wanted to eat in the hotel of which there were three other tables, after being signposted to the restaurant staff I said excuse me to the waiter who at first ignored me once saying excuse me again he told me they were fully booked! When they only had 3 tables eating, he did not carry on the conversation or apologise or even offer other suggestions. When speaking to reception staff about changes we would make to the hotel to make it abit better for customer we felt they didn’t care. Rooms were not cleaned till after 5pm everyday of which we were getting ready to go out so we had to go 3 days without having the room cleaned. This hotel could be a good facility and has a lot of potential however staff have let them down and we will not be staying again

Very clean in all areas, especially the rooms and vacuumed. The bed was too soft, apart from that, lovely room, very spacious. Breakfast was good, lots on offer. Short walking distance to/from train and bus station Would recommend and would stay afain

We had a few issues with the room not being serviced, once and another time we arrived back at 5.15 and it hadn’t been done, so we had to wait 15 mins before we could get in the room also the breakfast wasn’t fully stocked and they had run out of fresh fruit salad with over an hour to go before it finished, Saturday was well stocked.

Nice hotel. Good breakfast. Too bad the toilet wasn't cleaned. There was a big poop smear on the seat and splatters on the inside of the lid. Had to clean it myself.

Great hotel more or less on the seafront. The first room I checked into had a ball of human hair on the floor. It made me feel bad so asked for another room. They apologised and kindly gave me another room. Parking is limited and the spaces extremely tight. I probably wouldn’t stay here again if I’m honest.

Arriving at the property check in was slow. Our room had been upgraded to sea view but once we got to the room there was no hot water in the shower. They moved us to the room we originally booked which they’d said had quickly been cleaned to move us. It smelt like dog, had dog hair on the bed and hair in the drain of the shower. We were then told someone else was going into our upgraded room and we couldn’t move back even though there was still no hot water. After a long 4 hour drive and spending the afternoon at the beach our evening was wasted waiting for a response from staff and moving rooms. I even asked to speak with the manager but no response to that. The actual hotel itself was lovely but it’s not acceptable to have a room with no hot water or expect guests to sleep in a bed that’s had a dog on it. Wouldn’t waste my money going back there!

All staff amazing very courteous and polite. Evening meal was fabulous too. Our room was spotless and loved the decor. All round wonderful stay.

Really loved this hotel, the location was spot on and it was immaculate

When you're gone for 9 hours, 2 days in a row and return after 5 in the evening both days, you expect your room to have been cleaned. If you're expecting the level of service you've grown to expect from the Mercure brand, you will be left lacking. This is our 2nd stay, and both times left disappointed. We will not be returning again to this hotel for our biannual visit to family in the area.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Mercure in Paignton. It is right on the sea front with nice views (if you have a sea view room) and loads of facilities nearby. The hotel was only a few weeks old when we stayed so it was beautifully presented. The rooms were well equipped, clean and had a huge bed, large enough that it could almost have been called a family room.

Thank you for a wonderful 2 day stay at The Mercure Hotel in Paignton, Devon. My husband and i stayed in a Classic Double room with a lovely big shower, they also provided towels, hair shampoo, shower gel all organic and great quality along with the hand soap. Our bed was amazing very comfortable, also great blackout curtains too. The windows don’t open in the room but the good news is you have great air con and heating at your fingertips. The Tv was 52” and fabulous with free view channels too. Hotel has 2 lifts and a fabulous outdoor balcony area. What i loved was in the evening while having a drink outside the waiter approached us (and every other table) to hand out lovely warm fleeces to wrap around you if feeling a bit chilly as our hotel wasn’t far across from the beach. I thought this was so lovely of them to do this. We did book for dinner on our first night (booking is advised), not a very extensive menu to choose from but quality was good, a little pricey on some dishes and noticed the same menu the next night. Plenty of places to eat near by but if you didn’t want to go out the hotel then you have options. Breakfast in the morning was nice you had your continental first, then your hot buffet stuff, sausages, bacon scrambled eggs ect… but a word of warning as we didn’t find this out until I’d plated up the hot food but if you wanted your eggs a different way like poached, fried ect you need to order them separately at the bar first. Very nice hotel and frontage. All staff friendly and helpful. Good quality cooked breakfast. Privilege room worth the extra for the views. Large comfy bed and a/c worked well with easy instructions. Definitely stay again.

The fairground opposite the hotel, blocking the promised sea view when booking. The noise levels even on the beach were extremely loud and no better in the hotel room. One night until 10pm. This was not mentioned when we booked this hotel, which is regretable because the hotel itself is of the higest standard and cannot be critised.

Stayed in a premium room, lovely views and comfortable. Staff all very good, check in is often a slow process though.

Not that impressed, paid for a superior privilege room, expecting floor to ceiling glass views of the bay. Was put on the top floor which felt like an attic room with a much smaller window. Was still a great view but not what I expected or what I felt I'd paid for. The dressing gowns were just screwed up in a bundle in the wardrobe. The room was really just a Travelodge with bling... Very disappointed

Great view in front rooms and very modern and clean although grout needs cleaning in the shower as stained jn places.Not quiet enough as soundproofing within the hotel is poor as airborne and impact noises heard/felt from other rooms mostly from loud heavy closing doors and vibrations through the bedisde wall. Big gap under my door on one end where light is coming through.

Long wait to check in and cannot believe they did not have two people working on reception. This happened more than once. There were not enough people working at the bar so again a long time elapsed before getting our drinks. The receptionist forgot to tell me that after I'd paid for 5 days parking that I had to enter my registration mark on their terminal. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I don't receive a parking ticket! Room was large but the wardrobe was unbelievably small and the door closer prevented the wardrobe door opening fully. Bathroom large and great for handicapped persons just a shame that the shower curtains weren't longer to prevent water splashing around the rest of the room. The cleaner for our apartment was exceptional and all the staff were polite but there were just not enough of them!

Very new building right on the sea front. Staff are excellent, especially one really friendly person named Alex, I’d return just to talk to him 😊. Rooms are in excellent condition with all of the tea and coffee facilities, as well as soft drinks in the mini bar. Unfortunately when we arrived the rest was too busy to accommodate us, but there were plenty of places to eat nearby.

Check in states from 3pm we arrived at the hotel for around 2.45 and was told that housekeeping was behind and room wasnt ready i then asked again around 3.10 and room still wasnt ready we were left waiting with a 1 year old till around 4.30pm when our room was finally ready this wasnt just us quite a few people were waiting too. The room was clean and nice however weve all became ill with having the air con on which we had to have on because the room was very warm and no windows to open so air con was the only option. We did have to leave for a emergency which i did tell the staff member on the desk and her response was 'i dont think ill be able to refund you' i never asked this i was just letting them know so if they wanted to use the room they could.

Hotel was lovely first impression, location could not be better, car park woefully inadequate for size of hotel, air conditioning very poor and check in was painfully slow.

Great one night stay here, staff were excellent, friendly and nothing too much trouble, rare these days. Breakfast was great and for our deal was excellent value. Will visit again

were told by reception on arrival no restaurant/bar capacity for guests other than the coach parties. we booked a ‘privilege room’ which was a nice typical executive style room with sea view. Coffee was below average biscuits were nice though (although you’d need more as so hungry as no dinner available) we ended up ordering a papas to share as too tired to explore after journey! very underwhelmed by the whole experience such a let down for paignton as it should have been good!

The hotel overall was clean and the staff especially Alex were very helpful. However if a coach party was in you couldn't eat in the restaurant as they didn't have the capacity in the kitchen. On more then one occasion at breakfast they had ran out of cups so no tea or coffee. Also it was rare there was a laid table you were left to find a table and then the cutlery etc. In the everyone night then bar ran out of wine glasses. The housekeeping was hit and miss I think we had a bottom sheet that was to small as under the pillow was just the matrress cover this was left all our stay. Also when we first arrived we had bottled water this was never replaced and I had to go to reception to get some. I have stayed in other Mercure hotels so overall was disappointed as usually they are much better.

A lovely hotel right on the sea front with excellent views across the bay. The hotel is conveniently situated for rail and bus links. Very clean and comfortable. Excellent breakfast. Very friendly staff, nothing is too much trouble for them. Recommend the superior privilege rooms at the front with sea view. There is parking at the hotel.This is our 4th stay at this hotel.

The location of the hotel is great, we were visiting family in Torbay which is less than a ten minute drive from here. There are plenty of bars cafes and shops a short walk along from the hotel. if you dont want to pay for the hotel parking there is a public car park at the top of beach road that is a little cheaper. The hotel is well decorated and the reception and public areas were nice and clean during our stay. Our room was spacious and clean, it had tea and coffee as well as a mini fridge. The bed was comfortable, as were the two chairs in the room. Staff were attentive, polite and helpful. We'll certainly use this hotel again on our next visit to Torquay.

Absolutely lovely hotel at a great location with nice and friendly staff. There was a funfair at the time made it a bit noisy and blocked the view which is not the hotel fault. Definitely would recommend the hotel to others.

Booked 3 nights B&B in a premium seaview room, decent size room in good decorative order and vry clean with a nice large bed. Also had a coffee machine and fridge. Breakfast was a little chaotic, its a very busy hotel and there were a decent amount of staff but it just seemed like they were running around achieving little with food items constantly running out. The continental selection wasnt great and could have done with more variety on cereals and fresh fruit. It also seems strnge that fried eggs and hash browns had to be ordered separately. The bar area has a very nice outside area with some impressive planting. Overall it was great value for money and we enjoyed our stay.

Stayed recently and overall had a really good experience. The hotel and room were exactly as expected clean, tidy, well presented and very comfortable. Staff were genuinely pleasant and helpful throughout the stay, which made a difference. The location is excellent, with some lovely outdoor seating areas, and parking was straightforward with a car park just underneath the building. However, breakfast let things down a bit. There were quite a few issues with availability. Basic items like sausages and bacon weren’t great quality, and trays weren’t topped up, so most of the continental options were gone early. Pancake machine was out of action and oddly, there weren’t any mugs available at any of the coffee stations. On the bright side, the pastries were fresh and the toast toppings were well stocked. Dinner at the hotel restaurant the night before was excellent though, which made the breakfast situation even more surprising. All in all, a solid stay and I’d return, but I’d skip the breakfast next time unless things improve.

Fairly new hotel & clean. Bed comfortable. Room serviced daily. Shower =rain shower & a body spray. Breakfast disapointing. Scrambled eggs made with powdered egg. You could order other eggs & hash browns e.g poached/fried etc but this is not advertised & is very slow to arrive Yoghurt but no fruit to accompany it apart from sliced melon & prunes??

Beautiful hotel in a great location right in the middle of all attractions and a view of the South Devon coastline. Good value hotel, let down by average standard of staff and lack of communication. Detail to cleaning coukd be improved. Huge tv in bedroom, shame it doesn't connect to your phone to make the most of it. Could be a great cinema experience. Breakfast was good apart from awful scrambled egg and not a teaspoon in sight for sugar and yoghurt. Staff looked blank when we asked for one and ignored us. Plenty of good points, the price reflects the hotel services.

On arrival had to pay £15 for parking which was not advertised. Asked if we could make a dinner reservation we’re told there was no need . Came down for dinner at 7.30 was told fully booked had to wait 1.5 hours for a table. Could not order drinks from the bar had to go through waiter. On 2 occasions after waiting 20-30 mins after ordering had to go and ask were the drinks are. Was asked about breakfast on check in and said I would decide in the morning. Decided to have breakfast in the morning had to pay an extra 6 pounds each because it was on the day at no point did reception inform me of this on check . For a 4 star hotel and at a cost of £130 for the night this was absolutely disgusting. Will never use this hotel again.

This is a very new hotel, which is reflected in the quality of everything within. Service excellent, food for both breakfast and dinner was also excellent, albeit menu fairly limited. Only criticism was unable to book in early despite space being available.

Fantastic new hotel on Paignton’s esplanade. Friendly staff. Our room was brilliant and very effective air conditioning. We stayed on the half board option and the food for dinner was yum! Generous portions. The breakfast was excellent also - buffet with lots of choice (really enjoyed the pastries). We parked on a residential street nearby about 5 mins walk away. Highly recommend this hotel!
