We were only there two nights so didn't really use the hotel facilities. The pool looked nice but was too small for lap swimming so I didn't bother. Good location for beach, dining and shopping which are all walkable.

We stayed for a few nights and loved staying at the property for it’s wonderful staff, terrific location , beautiful views, lovely feeling fireplace in the lobby and the great breakfasts and coffee. The Colonial is an older style hotel. We enjoyed a great comfy bed and pillows and being in the heart of La Jolla near to the beach and contemporary art museum and the shopping. We also enjoyed The bar downstairs which is very entertaining in the evening . Thank you to the Grand Colonial for making our short stay a marvelous one . We will be back !

we had an amazing stay at your hotel, we loved the smallness feel and the ease of getting around. The staff were super friendly! We have never stayed at a hotel that offered free snacks and water! That was an added bonus. The pool was clean and we loved hanging out there. We also got an amazing sunset right from our 4th floor. We will be coming back!

This is a historic hotel right in the heart of La Jolla. You can walk to the beach, shopping and restaurants. If you don't want to walk, they have a little mini shuttle and one of the valets will drive you. The hotel staff are all friendly and accommodating. Our room had an ocean view, was spacious and decorated in a coastal theme. The bed was very comfortable, the closet was spacious and there were a lot amenities including water and snacks. The restaurant was closed the days we were there, but we have dined there before for lunches and it is outstanding. There isn't a gym on premises, but gym access is granted to hotel guests at a facility a short walk away. The gym is well equipped and not crowded. The only downside to our stay was the building construction across the street, so sleeping in was not an option. Once that is over with, this hotel is a little slice of heaven for sure.

Very friendly, helpful, free parking and snacks in the room. Our original room was a little loud as deliveries were being made in the morning and they switched our room immediately. Also have items for the beach (umbrellas, chairs, etc.). Would definite go back ! Restaurant was excellent as well as was the location.

2 flaws: 1). no heated pool and the staff were unaware and it was not fixed in time. The heated pool was one reason why i booked here. 2). Despite being upgraded (ty! btw) the floors were so creaky and i felt bad for the folks down stairs. Outside of that, I would recommend staying here for all the benefits this hotel has to offer! Felt like a resort and i most especially loved the bathroom! it felt like my personal spa

The staff at Grande Colonial was ultra friendly and willing to make our stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. The hotel was well maintained, clean, and easy access to the beach and restaurants. The only request would be to have more water fountains for guests to fill up their bottles during their stay. There was one water pitcher for everyone's use at the lobby, which was convenient. We enjoyed the use of Cruiser Bikes and the option of electric bikes, as needed. Thank you very much for a very nice week in La Jolla, California.

The staff overall was very well trained kind and thoughtful. Although a couple of the Valets have a I cant be bothered with you attitude. Downright Surly. The hotel building itself, is very very long in the tooth, and in desperate need of a makeover. There comes a point where Historic, simply means old and tired. The elevator, though from a bygone era, is painfully slow, and terribly banged up hurting its character. The restaurant does NOT AT ALL look like the pics online. Food is mediocre at best. Though the Wine List is above par, with half price Wednesdays allowing for big splurges. The sink in my bathroom filled to the brim during each morning shave. But worst of all, the carpet in my room was so old and dirty, that even if you had showered earlier, you had to clean the bottom of your feet, before putting your shoe on. Black soles. Ugh. Whatever you do, do not stay in a "Village Side room", as they quaintly put it. It simply means: Over the street. Super noisy especially on Sunday evening. Quite sure I will not be staying again.

It not only looked clean, but smelled fresh & clean. Staff members were extremely cordial and sweet, especially the valet parking staff, with whom we had frequent interaction. Our 4th floor room was spacious and quiet, although it offered only a partial ocean view, not the full ocean view shown when I booked.

I love the vintage vibe, it looks great. Location is fantastic for walking around. The carpets could use either a deep cleaning or replacing. There is a minor odor and I think it's probably the carpets.

Good stay. Its not the hotel's fault that there was very little sun the three nights we stayed there. We were in an ocean view room. Wi-fi was very poor. To the hotel's credit, they removed one of the $50 a night "extra fees". They did say they were working on improving it. The only other complaint is that the bathroom light automatically comes on super bright when you walk on, which can wake a person in bed in the middle of the night. I usually don't do reviews, but since this one had a 9.2 I felt obligated to.

Great staff, very friendly & helpful. Very close to beaches. Lots of noise in our first floor room from upstairs rooms. Unable to get TV streaming to work---even with attention from a staff member. Noise alone would probably keep us from staying again. We stayed 17 nights--we know the place well!!

The hotel was very well run and we enjoyed our stay. It was so close to the shore line that we could walk to the sea lions. The room and bathroom had been updated nicely but our only complaint was the shower. The water barely came out of the shower head. It wasn't that the pressure was low it was non existent. I would also encourage you get a room not too close to the elevator. It was a little noisy at night but it is an old hotel.

The ostensibly 'premier room' we booked was in fact right next door to the elevator shaft (which kept us awake all night), had an old musty smell, a bathroom light that would automatically switch off every 2 mins. Were it not for the kind staff and good restaurant downstairs, i would give this a 1-star rating

The location of this hotel was fantastic and what a joy it was to sleep with the window open and hear the ocean. We had a 2 king bed ocean view room. The hotel itself is a little older but has plenty of character. The beds are extremely comfortable but the shower presure isnt perhaps the best. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The pool isnt huge but is a nice place to sit. We didn't eat in the restaurant because there are so many options near by. If you can get a decent deal on price this hotel is a great option.

We enjoyed staying at the Grande Colonial for 3 nights. Our room was spacious, clean, had water bottles, coffee and complimentary snacks. We had an ocean view room with an actual ocean view. The location was convenient to all of our activities. The valet parking was a big plus as well. The entire staff was extremelly responsive and friendly. We will definitely return.

Nice spacous room but less than great staff ... not customer oriented, instead seemed bothered in serving especially at check in and at the bar / restaurant. And to top it off, the parking guy damaged our car. These people just dont seem to care.

Excellent and beautiful historical property in a great location. We were a bit surprised by the quality and level of service at this lovely boutique hotel, as we would have expected better. Notably regarding responsiveness, follow thru and attitude, mostly at the front desk from what we could tell. Also, they announce up front that they are a pet free hotel, yet we saw dogs in the lobby and even in their upscale restaurant indoors. Otherwise, a wonderful place to stay.

This is the second time I’ve stayed at Grande Colonial and enjoyed my stay both times. The room is clean, robes and slippers are provided, and the best parts are that the snacks/soda/water and valet parking are included! The location is also central and you can truly relax by being able to walk to the stores/restaurants and the beach. The service is also very friendly and down to earth. I would not stay anywhere else when visiting La Jolla.

The hotel was in such a great location in La Jolla and valet parking was free! You can just step out your door and walk to amazing shops, restaurants, and see beautiful views of the ocean and all the seals and sea lions. The hotel itself was very nice too! This is the place to stay if you are visiting La Jolla!!!

Excellent hotel with wonderful service that is centrally located near both the shopping/restaurants and steps away from the ocean/walking path. You can see the seals and waves crashing along the walking path and even walk down to the ocean. Hotel staff are very warm, friendly. Restaurant is extremely good with great waiters. Highly recommend this property.

Business trip for 2 nights. Staff is very nice in hotel and restaurant. Only one elevator, be patient if you need it. Room was clean, shower area is very cold and handle to turn on/off is in odd location so you are wet before the water is at a comfortable temp. Food at 9/10 is good, be ready to pay 4.00 for bread, portions are small and door behind bar is broken. Its opened often to a displeasing and dirty area.
