The Maq Hotel

Room was clean, bed was super comfortable, bathroom was small but very modern. The building is old so no fridges in rooms but are provided coolers and free ice. No elevator. Cons - the bed frames blend in with the floor so watch your shins, and the lobby/check in was difficult to find in the multiple entrance building. Loved that the staff checked in throughout the stay and were very courteous. Bonus, free cocktail upon check-in! Cafe staff were quick and food/drink wad delicious. Pub staff were great as well. Beautiful view and very centrally located, walking distance to most things! Overall would definitely stay again.

Nice modern refurbished hotel. Will not stay here again due to noise from Bierhaus in the courtyard, then kitchen noises until an hour after closing. No elevator.

The perfect spot! It’s close to everything and has anything you could need : coffee shop, a pub, a liquor store, and a restaurant.

The outside of the hotel is nothing like the inside. What they did with this over 70 year old hotel is amazing!!! Only thing is there is no elevator but staff are happy to help with carrying luggage to the 2nd floor. Would definitely say at the Maq again.

We stayed at the Maq April 2024. Location is in the heart of Tofino, easily walkable to shops, restaurants & tour services. Parking was provided behind the hotel at no charge. Our rooms were clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The “mini fridge” was a cooler and ice was provided free of charge at the Maq liquor store. Perfectly suited our needs. Since we stayed off season, the hotel dining room was open only one night during our stay, food was really good with affordable pricing. There is a beautiful patio off the restaurant and lobby. We happened to hit “wine Wednesday” for 1/2 price bottles of wine, so that was an added bonus! The coffee shop in the lobby offers snacks and good coffee. We loved the eclectic feel of the hotel, the decor and that the Maq is dog friendly as is the town. Next time we visit, we will be bringing ours. Any staff we interacted with at the hotel were friendly and knowledgeable. Our future visits to Tofino will ensure a stay at the Maq, and there will be a next visit. Tofino is a fun little town, there is something for everyone and such a natural wonder that we and Canada are so fortunate to have.

Great place to stay in the heart of Tofino. Super friendly staff in all aspects of the property and excellent food and drinks at the Bear Bierhaus! Rooms were quiet and clean and the whole property is super dog friendly which was a must for us. Would highly recommend and we will definitely be back!

This was such a nice hotel! Walkable, clean, and had a nice cafe and sitting area. It was especially nice when it was pouring rain. We were able to sit out there and enjoy the view. Very dog friendly.

The room and hotel were very clean and the staff was very friendly. It was very convenient to have a nice restaurant in the hotel. The location was great. A refrigerator in the room would have been nice.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Maq Hotel. The room was clean and spacious, the bathroom was decorated nicely. The bed was super comfortable. The hotel staff, particularly those working in the cafe, were really friendly and welcoming. The hotel is well located, and has a handy Co-Op just up the road.

Clean room and great staff!

Convenient + centrally-located, very walkable area. Lobby is open + spacious. But in 2 weeks of travel, room was the smallest with the fewest amenities + the highest price. No chair to sit on, no table or desk to place items on, no fridge. Room for 1 suitcase; cant imagine how 2 people could actually share the space.

Great bed! No coffee in room, no a/c, no small frig. Coffee you can purchase downstairs but coffee shop doesn’t open till 7:30. And you get an ice chest. Beautiful place, but it’s glamping! Would like a few more amenities, esp. coffee maker or open coffee shop earlier.

Really sweet place, love the artistic/West Coast feel :) The only glitch was finding out there was no bathtub, so no hot soak after catering the Private Dinner Party that I was in town to facilitate. Given that it would quite a challenge to install bathtubs at this point, perhaps have one outdoor hot tub on site, to make up for this?

Our room was small but adequate. The bed was very comfortable. Great staff that were very responsive. Would stay here again.

No frills here, but that's A-OK. It was clean, the hotel people were very helpful. The walls are a bit thin and it felt a bit like staying in a dorm room, but overall I'm not upset with this particular booking. I would recommend it.

The only problem was the TV did not work. There was no air but the fan did work.

It was fine. Room was nice and clean but no fridge (but it did have a cooler and we could get free ice at the liquor store downstairs), no AC, wifi was terrible (we couldn't connect and staff had no idea how to fux it), tv was pathetically small and of poor quality. While the hotel focusses on style, it lacks significantly on substance, especially considering how expensive it is during high season. Breakfast in the lobby cafe was fantastic.

We chose a view of the bay rather than the court yard. The street can be noisy. And the rooms are over the bar so early am patrons exiting carry the party into the street. Ear plugs are offered at check in.

The hotel itself is excellent. It is a modern building with good architecture (shaped like a square U) which is well-furnished and decorated. The hotel staff is super friendly and will bend over backwards for you. They sent me a text greeting and as I texted questions or requests back to them, they responded and accommodated. There is a coffee bar on the main floor which is very convenient. It has a very young-person feel to it as the staff and guests are mainly in their 20s with some in their 30s. It is fantastic on all accounts. There is only one problem with it and that is the noise level. The coffee bar plays music from 7am to 10am which can be heard in almost every hotel rooms. It will vary from muffled base-thumping to having the side tables in your room vibrate. On the weekends, there is a pub/grill in the basement which will play music until 1am as well. In fairness to them, they did what they could to help in offering me earplugs, a white noise machine, and even to move me to a different room. If you can comfortably sleep through this sort of thing or don't mind being confined to these sleep hours, this is a fantastic place. (I was travelling with my niece in her 20s and she really enjoyed the hotel.) If you have small children or like taking afternoon naps or are travelling from a different time zone, this may be a problem for you. You may want to put some thought into whether or not this is the type of hotel for you. If it is, you will really enjoy it.

The best part about the Maq is the building. Love the old character mixed with modern quirkiness. The front desk staff were 2/5. Next time we will pay a bit more to get a location on the water with hot tub etc. and better staff.

Bed was comfortable. Ivory on reception was exceptional and the Australian man on reception. Amelia and Fin were just superb. The staff really went out of their way to make our stay memorable

Despite some of the other reviews, we did not find it loud and the noise was never a factor for us. Highly recommend for a stay in Tofino!

I loved the hotel’s decor and found it to be very clean, you could see it has a revamp recently so everything felt new and fresh. I was incredibly disappointed with the service however. We went to the reception desk numerous times and were met with unprofessional behaviour between staff members, banging on windows and waving at other people while we were waiting to be served, we were ignored for a few minutes. We also have to say the service in the restaurant/hotel bar was also terrible. Our server ignored us and when asked by a server if they could take our order they told us he wasn’t our server but he’d send ours down… we felt like we weren’t able to as for anything then. Our food came down cold and it took nearly 10 mins for someone to come with 1 beer to us. We also hear off duty staff of the facility sitting next to us being loud and drunk, which really put us off. If you are looking for some peace and quiet in Tofino then it’s not the place for you.

From a free cocktail at check in, friendly staff, and the cutest hand written welcome note upon arrival they made you feel special right from the start. They checked on us regularly to see if we needed anything thru the weekend. Free bags of ice at the wine shop/store, the Outdoor patio, bar, restaurant, and coffee shop on site was awesome and handy. We had a problem with our key after hours & they resolved it swiftly. The beds and linens were super soft & comfy! The location was excellent & quiet. Easy walk to shops, the beach, and restaurants in town. We would stay there again & can’t wait to go back!

Very nice hotel with great harbour views. Right downtown so walking distance to the shops. Very helpful staff. The coffee shop has some great pastries.

Great location and very cool vibe!

Very convenient for our overnight in Tofino. Comfortable beds and coffee bar in lobby with light breakfast selection. Short walk takes you to many restaurants and down to pier to see stunning sunsets.

Great central location to explore tofino

This property is in the middle of downtown tofino. With a lot of food options near me. Maq Hotel has one of the most amazing staff i have ever met. Excellent hospitality. I asked for an early check-in and they managed to get the room ready for us in less than 10mins. The hotel also offers free parking to it's guests and has their own restaurant, pub and cafe.

Great walkable location in town! Free parking was a big plus. Great value, had a nice stay!

Loved our stay at The Maq. Our check in was the only challenge we had. Their front desk closes at 9 pm and unfortunately due to significant travel delays we weren’t able to get to the hotel until 11:45 pm. The front desk contacted us earlier in the day and told us the envelope with our key will be in a secure place inside if we were to arrive after 9. The doors to the hotel were locked when we got there, which was very shocking. Fortunately, the BierHaus was just closing and the executive chef was kind enough to let us in and explain that due to the small nature of the town they just don’t have the staff to stay throughout the night, which was totally understandable. We were just glad to get to our room after such a long day of travel! If you’re expecting AC, there isn’t any, but not to worry, they do provide a fan and the weather when we’re there was cool and kept us comfortable. There wasn’t a refrigerator in the room, but they did provide a cooler and complimentary ice. The hotel is located near the water and in walking distance to several shops and restaurants. Overall, we had a great stay. The hotel had a cafe, bar and pub, which was very convenient. The decor was beautiful and the rooms were charming and clean. I would highly recommend staying at The MAQ if visiting Tofino.

The MAQ was a very fun hotel. The decor was great, the cafe had great coffee, the staff were helpful, the food was delicious and the location was wonderful - right across from the wharf with a lovely view and close to shops, restaurants and activities. I would stay there again.

We came to Tofino as part of our honeymoon to see bears but our tour got cancelled. The hotel was super nice and the staff welcoming The restaurant was lively and the food super tasty
