The property is in a terraced residential area about 15 minutes walk from the centre of York. Parking is on the road in a permit reserved space next to the property. Inside the property is lovely - almost 2 separate rooms plus bathroom which is all modern, spacious & very clean. Plenty of teas, coffee & bottled water. 2 nice big screen TVs & loads of plugs / charging points. Lots of good WA communication from the owners…..

We had a bit of a problem getting in through the security code door. It just kept refusing to work, this put us off both going out later that night as we didn’t want a repeat performance at night in the dark. There was a fair amount of noise from both people walking past outside and people in the room above us walking around. The room was nice and comfortable.

Keypad to get in the property is finicky when raining. They need to have it more protected from the rain somehow. As when it gets wet it doesn’t work. The pillows were hard, flat and lumpy. But the bed was comfortable. The rooms were simple but clean. Bathroom was nice. It looked newly renovated. Price was good. Distance to town was walkable. So would give it a 4/5

The room was beautiful and very clean with the expected amenities provided. The online city guide was particularly appreciated and helped us choose a spot for dinner. I had a little difficulty getting in and out with the pram but that’s to be expected given the type of property. We had trouble arranging parking which wasn’t resolved until after we had arrived, meaning we ended up paying for parking quite a distance away from the hotel due to its location, but this was largely to do with the hotels.com app blocking personal information. Overall, I would recommend to others and stay again.

Place and service was excellent and the owner helped us so much with check in and parking , only 1 issue with our stay the 10am check out wasn’t late enough think 11am would be a lot better for all clients . But nice place and had a great sleep very peaceful

Nice house, rooms are clean, parking is easy, suitable for business travelers with a limited budget. The only problem is the front door lock is not working as it should, and since there's no reception, if you make three incorrect entries, you have to wait outside for 5 minutes before you can try again. If the weather is cold and you've come from a long journey, it tests your patience at the door. Apart from that, it's a comfortable house, I would recommend it if they fix the entrance lock."

This isnt a manned hotel.. Its comfortable clean rooms in an unoccupied house. That being said its secure warm and a great stay. Slept really well. The bathroom and shower where great. 10 min walk into town great quiet location. I had to contact owners as door code wasn't received. Call was answered quickly and help was brilliant

We had a lovely stay at The Vanguard. The property is in a residential area just out of town, so it was quiet. The room was clean and comfortable with all the facilities you need for a short city break. Although there is no reception, check in and out was easy with the instructions provided by the owners, who also contacted us to ensure everything was ok.

Lovely stay, the room was very clean and had coffee/tea facilities and a fridge. Water was hot and good pressure for a shower. Room was a little snug but it is fine for a night or two. 15 min walk to York and parking. Area seemed safe

Room was lovely comfortable & clean. A couple of small issues the bathroom looked great but because of the large mirror unit you cant bend over the sink to brush your teeth easily & you could do with a chair or maybe a bench made out of the wood to put bags on or to sit to put your shoes on. When you reaxh a certain age its easier sat diwn wlooked logreat hut

Staying at the vanguard was brilliant. We stayed for 2 nights, checking in was super easy, everything was sent on one email which was easy to understand. We got to drop our luggage off before check in time free of charge so we could explore York easier and this was very helpful and a big plus. The room was cosy with fresh sheets and towels in the room. The air con system was simple to work out and there was also a coffee machine in the room too, with complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate and water in the mini fridge. The bathroom was very modern, with a powerful shower that was hot straight away. They also had shampoo, shower gel, conditioner and hairdryer which is also a positive. Moving onto the staff, they are very accommodating. I had got in touch by phone and message a few times before our stay and during, which they responded to very quickly and politely. They checked on us throughout our stay and they couldn’t have done any more. I would highly recommend staying here, it was perfect.

The room was very nice. A couple of small things: 1- It would have been nice to know there was a flight of narrow stairs to get to room, 2- Bathroom sink is blocked by overhanging cabinets, toothbrushing very difficult, 3- bathroom door drifts open against the bed unless closed and then the bathroom is very hot.

The room was meant to be soundproof but could hear next door for starters, then we seen it wasn’t a king size bed but two single beds put together which wasn’t very comfortable to say the least. Also two of the rooms I’d say are used for permanent residence. Then passing pedestrians through the night was noisy was irritating to say the least. We couldn’t work the heating system for the room.

Great communication, we only stayed 1 night. Walking distance to the Shambles and great shops. We were even allowed to leave our luggage there until we were ready to go.

The property is in a terraced residential area about 15 minutes walk from the centre of York. Parking is on the road in a permit reserved space next to the property. Inside the property is lovely - almost 2 separate rooms plus bathroom which is all modern, spacious & very clean. Plenty of teas, coffee & bottled water. 2 nice big screen TVs & loads of plugs / charging points. Lots of good WA communication from the owners…..

It does not look like a 4 star hotel. And the Hotel set is in a student housing location which can be noisy during the night.

Self check-in instructions were very easy to follow. Hotel is very conveniently located - only a short walk into the main city area of York. Would happily stay here again.

Accommodation most certainly isn’t a hotel, at most it could be classed as student room in someone’s house and in a very unappealing area. Ridiculous check in having to wait for self check in key pad to work (and being told by host to wait outside in a very seedy area for 3 minutes whilst the lock resets itself) I most certainly will not return and will not recommend to anyone in fact would go as far as letting people know how bad it is and definitely well over priced. Can’t understand how you get away with selling it as you do the pictures you advertise certainly do not show the deprived area it is situated in.

This isnt a manned hotel.. Its comfortable clean rooms in an unoccupied house. That being said its secure warm and a great stay. Slept really well. The bathroom and shower where great. 10 min walk into town great quiet location. I had to contact owners as door code wasn't received. Call was answered quickly and help was brilliant

Nice room. 10 minute walk to town centre so very convenient. Complimentary bottles of water. Good contact with hosts. I left my tablet in the room when we checked out, good communication to get it returned to me

The room was beautiful and very clean with the expected amenities provided. The online city guide was particularly appreciated and helped us choose a spot for dinner. I had a little difficulty getting in and out with the pram but that’s to be expected given the type of property. We had trouble arranging parking which wasn’t resolved until after we had arrived, meaning we ended up paying for parking quite a distance away from the hotel due to its location, but this was largely to do with the hotels.com app blocking personal information. Overall, I would recommend to others and stay again.

Absolutely lovely, would book again. No breakfast available on site, but not at all a problem as we were told in advance. Such thoughtful designs, loved the rustic furniture!

Room was ok .. shower great .. bed comfy 10 mins walk into York central.. parking costs ok but not sure it should be an additional cost for the booking.. air con is only portable on ground floor so needed ventilation hose out of the window which is not very secure on ground floor on roadside! Staff done their best but needs a few upgrades and booking should identify that before reservation

Absolutely fantastic stay, really enjoyed the room. The air con was a god send and the communication via WhatsApp was great. Close enough to the city for a steady walk in. Highly recommend and will stay again

Clean, comfortable room in a location giving easy access to the centre of York. Not really for 4 grown up people though. More like 3. Perhaps 2 adults and 2 children would've been OK. The second bed was small.

The room was meant to be soundproof but could hear next door for starters, then we seen it wasn’t a king size bed but two single beds put together which wasn’t very comfortable to say the least. Also two of the rooms I’d say are used for permanent residence. Then passing pedestrians through the night was noisy was irritating to say the least. We couldn’t work the heating system for the room.
