Cabin with amazing views & fully stocked pond for fishing minutes from Patoka

The cabin was very comfortable, and had everything one could need for a weekend getaway of 4-6 adults. The price was very reasonable as well; we have zero complaints! Notable positives: - Easy access to cabin, no steep roads for access- Large Dollar General within walking distance- Generously stocked kitchen, cleaning closet, bed linens & etc- Great outdoor spaces, from the large porch table to the hot tub and fishing pond; we even got to see some grazing cows next door- The area feels safe but also private, so you can relax without worry- Maybe we just got lucky, but a very friendly orange and white cat showed up on Saturday and hung out most of the night; he was the sweetest.- There is a train track that's basically on the property, some people might find it loud, but we personally found it very exciting to go out and watch it's lights through the trees at night - a stunning, unique sight that we couldn't get enough of (image attached).

Cabin was easily accessible and clean. Fire pit area with swings was a great amenity.

Had a great time at the cabin. It is beautiful and well taken care. We were there with our friends and the guys had a lot of fun fishing in the pond. Will definitely go back again.

We had the most wonderful stays at this cabin twice now and can’t wait to come back! The cabin was spotless and so thoughtfully prepared, including a bottle of wine. The cabin was very clean, well-stocked with everything we needed, and the beds were incredibly comfortable with plenty of blankets and pillows to make us feel right at home.The fall decorations gave it such a cozy touch, and we loved relaxing in the hot tub after a day of fishing. The cows next door added such a peaceful country charm, and the view of the stars at night was absolutely breathtaking—especially once Dollar General turned off their lights.The location was also perfect. Having Dollar General so close made it easy to grab last-minute items, and we picked up bait and firewood at Pappy’s Gas Station. We also loved exploring nearby wineries—Patoka Lake Winery and French Lick Winery were both great stops. For food, Benny’s Off the Water Restaurant and the Power Plant Bar & Grill at the French Lick Resort were fantastic.This cabin truly gave us the perfect mix of relaxation and convenience. Between the hot tub, fishing, starry skies, and thoughtful touches inside, it was everything we could have hoped for in a getaway. Highly recommend!

Cute little cabin, easy to find, close to the lake. The owners really take pride in their homes with cleanliness, hospitality, comfy beds, and the amenities like hot tub, fishing pond, and fire pit. It fit comfortable 4 adults and 2 kids. This is our second stay there and we will be back again!

One of the best VRBO’s we have stayed at. So clean & accomidating. The pond was super fun to fish in, the hottub was super clean and the property was very well maintained even to the landscaping outside. The swings by the fire pit & the neighboring cows were a hoot! I had some worries with reading other reviews about the train, but honestly it was a cool experience to watch them come by and the kids loved it too. We are already looking at dates to come stay again because it was such a wonderful experience. Thank you!!

The cabin was clean, cozy and a good location for our family hiking trips at Hemlock Cliff, Patoka Lake, and visit to Marengo Cavern. Our kids loved the hot tub, fishing for large mouth bass and catfish, visiting the neighbor cows along the fence line, and waving at the trains (and getting them to honk the horn!). The track does run on a bend near the property, but was more of a highlight for our families vs. a nuisance. Dollar General and gas station are conveniently located at the bottom of the hill. The porches, fire pit with swings, and welcome goodies were really nice. Owners were quick to respond and easy to communicate with. Cell service was limited, so it was nice to have WiFi, too.

We caught a bunch of catfish in the pond. Was a great weekend

We enjoyed our stay. Cabin and hot tub was clean. Pond was great. I didn't realize the train tracks were that close but got used to the trains. Loved watching the cows! Loved the firepit swings!

Read reviews and did not see any comments about a train that is literally feet behind the house. VERY LOUD. I did enjoy all the graffiti. Like a traveling art show. The kitchen could have been cleaner. My husband left it cleaner than when we arrived. If there wasn’t the train we would have loved our stay

We were looking for a cabin close to Holiday World for a quick before school starts getaway. What a find! Traveled with two ten year-olds who love to fish, the pond was perfect for them. The cabin was very clean and we even got a text from the owner advising us when it was ready and that we could check in early. The proximity to Holiday World was great, about 30 minutes away. We will definitely be back to explore French Lick and Patoka Lake. This cabin is a perfect place to get away from it all for a few days. Kitchen had all of the necessities and more. Hot tub was very nice.

This little cabin is basically in the middle of nowhere, but there is a Dollar General just down the hill. The owners are the coolest/chillest owners I've had to work with. The place came with some complimentary snacks and even a local bottle of wine (which was delicious). There is an active train track just yards from the cabin which you can barely hear once inside. We liked sitting in the hot tub watching the train go by!! (obviously this isn't for everyone, but like I said, when inside you can't really hear it) 10 out of 10!! We have already been bragging about this place to our friends! The location is perfect: minutes from the interstate and less than 30 min from the French Lick area and casino!! I'm not sure when, but we will be returning!!

Very clean and comfortable cabin. Well stocked kitchen and welcome back was a nice touch! We enjoyed the hot tub and swings. Nice to watch the sunrise from the balcony each morning! We would definitely stay again if in the area.

I recently visited Southern IN for a golf trip and had the pleasure of staying in the Mitchell’s cabin. Fully stocked kitchen, great outdoor area and super comfy king bed in the upstairs loft. I managed to leave something pretty important behind, and Martha was very accommodating getting it returned to me. Btw, Sultan’s Run in Jasper, IN (30 min drive from cabin) is a fantastic golf course.. just as good as the Dye Course in French Lick and less than a third of the cost to play! If I make my way back to So IN will definitely stay in this cabin again!

I cannot say enough positive things about this property. This trip was a girls getaway that allowed us to get in touch with nature but not be too far from civilization! It is a beautiful property! I enjoyed the peace and serenity that came with the morning, steady haze hovering over the pond as the June sunrise started to warm up the day. The location is perfect-if you want to go to French lick, holiday world, Marengo caves, river canoeing—all within reasonable distances! There is a gas station/ convenience store and a dollar general right off the main road if you forget anything. The cabin is well maintained as well as super comfortable. Owners even had a welcome basket! Martha was always responsive when we messaged prior to our trip (our group traveled a good distance and as the leader of the group I had questions for those what-if scenarios)! Wifi worked great for 6 people and streaming. Tons of photogenic spots on the property! Yes, there is a train that is pretty close to the property so if you have young kids or animals who scare easily it’s worth noting but it didn’t bother us. Our last day when we woke up, it poured down rain and it was just the most relaxing sound hearing it hit the roof of the cabin. It was a wonderful getaway and we were thankful for the opportunity to have spent our trip there! I plan to return with my family in the future. Thank you, Mitchell Family!

My wife and I enjoyed the house for a get away weekend. It was clean and they layout was great. We actually enjoyed it when the train passed by. My wife might return later for another get away with her sisters. Also enjoyed the Overlook Restaurant while we were there.

We enjoyed its proximity to French Lick and the Ohio River. We only had a few cons... Location. The living room/front porch is amazingly set up for gorgeous views, but all you see is the big Dollar General. I'd hope for a better view. And the train. The train woke us up at 730am on a Saturday! Shaking the whole bedroom and house. I went outside and sure enough, the tracks were steps away from the property. It continued to come by several times day and night. The hot tub is right within those steps where the train passes by. Because of that, I wouldn't pick this place again for serenity and isolation. But everything else is perfect! Thank you for sharing your property. My parents enjoyed it too.

Driving up the place looks great... a Dollar General and a Gas Station were at the corner of the road and that was an added convenience. Upon arriving we took in all the sites (cow farm next door, cows outside) also the pond was beautiful....then we quickly realized the devil...The train tracks lay just a short distance from what is supposed to be the most relaxing part of a vacation, the hot tub. Not only did it the rattle the whole cabin but the screeching of the rails and the breaks being applied was deafening. The train comes through sometimes every 2 or 3 hours from 10pm to about 5:30am. The upstairs bed being a king size should be a luxury felt more like sleeping in a sinkhole. By the way check out Marengo cave its a much more enjoyable sinkhole. Some of the craftsmanship of the deck also requires a strong reassessment. My friend and I are usually pretty laid back on things but, the non-disclosure of the train tracks being within about 200 feet from the front door and front porch area was a major issue.

We had a wonderful stay- it had snowed days before and drive had been plowed from the road to the door. We were welcomed with wine and candy. Easy access to home and was exactly as pictured. It was a relaxing weekend with the exception of the train right behind the home. It didn't bother us too much but was a surprise in the middle of the night. lol The Mitchell Family were great hosts!

This is our second time staying at this cabin and we once again had a fantastic time! There was great hiking to do in the area and the kids loved playing in the large yard, creek, and enjoying several campfires. The owners were wonderful about answering any questions we had and provided a wonderful place to create lasting memories. :-)

Martha and her husband were excellent at helping us with any need we had during our stay. They were kind enough to allow us to stay a little longer and got the hot tub running for us. We truly enjoyed our stay and train is hardly noticeable unless you are outside. Would recommend to friends.

Beautiful cabin on an old farm setting. It was a peaceful stay location centered in the Hoosier National Forest.

We loved the cabin & the area. Very close to Patoka Lake. Only about 20 mins to French Lick. Very nice property. Would definitely stay here again.

The actual home and hot tub were very nice, but the location was not what was expected. Close to a busy road with noise and behind a gas station and retail store, nearby train tracks. The cows and pond were nice-Just hard to enjoy with the other distractions.

Great property and home. We enjoyed the space and pond and the cows next door. The only draw back is the location. With a busy train track around two hundred feet in front of the house, both during the day and night, and a busy highway to the north side of the property, this peaceful location becomes very noisy. We loved the property but probably wouldn't stay again due to the noise level.

Nice getaway. Lots of trains going by very, very closely on a curve so you hear thembig time putting on the brakes. Lit up at night from the Dollar General very close. Not as secluded as we hoped.
