Le Sand & Stone Hotel

Parking instructions were easy to follow - $34 for one night. Parking lot was about a 2 mins walk from the hotel. Called ahead and was told early check in would be an additional $15 (seemed a bit ridiculous considering the room was 225/ night); and regularly $75 during a weekday. Was promptly met by the owner and greeted with instructions, he only charged us $10. We were given the door code for our room and took the extremely small elevator (could barely fit 3 of us with a bag each). Door code to enter our room but no lock on the inside - so someone with the code would be able to enter at any time. Room was clean and beds were very comfortable however only 2 pillows on each bed and bathtub was dirty. There was no outlet in the bathroom but we were given an extension cord after asking for one. When seated on the toilet you must straddle your legs as there is a wall right in front of it. There is no counter space what so ever and a massive sink which made getting ready as a women very difficult. The bathroom door was very difficult to open and frequently was stuck in the bathroom. There was a fridge that worked; however there was a tv screen attached to the wall but the cord was not long enough to be plugged into the singular outlet; also no remote so appears this was just for decoration? Also only one mirror in the bathroom and no where else in the room. When we noticed we didn’t have towels we mentioned this on the way down - was told by the owner this was our fault because

Elevator stopped on 5 floor and room on 6, ac wasn't properly fixed soooo hot, comine bathroom

Not parking anywhere near property, have to pay for public parking 40$ cad a day, lots of construction and got three parking tickets when the staff of the hotel said i can park on the street

old building in montreal got converted to a hotel. walls are peeling off, elevator only goes to the 5th floor needed to walk to the 6th, thankfully i can but others may not be able too. its clean small and just enough for sleep nothing more. no desk or chair had to keep everything on the bed or on the floor.

Awesome staff to relocate us for the accessible room for disable bec the expedia give us the 6th floor and need to climb up the stairs the staff fix it . What is poor is the aircondition its not cold, if its summer is not enough good thing the weather starting to chill but still need the a/c. Sleep undress fyi. But anyway thank you for the quick action that night to change our room. Appreciate. Thank you to Ms black beautiful lady. Sorry i didnt know her name forgot to ask. I beg your pardon.

Il était inscrit qu’il y avait du stationnement j’ai dû demander l’adresse, puis j’ai payé 30$ mais on m’a informé que j’avais une réduction de 10$ seulement apres avoir payé puisque je séjournait a l’hôtel.

Le stationnement affichait 15$ à l'extérieur mais 40$ une fois entré. Il y a eu une opération de déneigement durant la nuit ce qui était très bruyant. Sinon pour le reste rapport qualité prix, c'était bon

Terrible experience, the area is unsafe, roaches in the bed and washroom the beddings is so itchy..

1- les photos de la chambre sur le site versus la réalité est totalement différente. J’ai loué une chambre familiale, elle n’a rien de familial. 2 petits lits double. Une commode venant de l’armé du salut et un bureau de travail de chez Hart. Les lits craquent au moindre mouvement et les matelas désuets. Pour la salle de bain, la toilette n’était pas lavé , le robinet du bain fuit et est réparé avec du papier de toilette!!! Bien que la peinture semble fraîche, le tout a été fait à la va vite. Bref , trop cher payé.

We encountered a mice in our room. It was heading towards our suitcase. We were terrified about this incident since we never expected to see a mice running in our room in a hotel. We would like to be reimbursed for some of the money that we spend in booking the room. We took a picture of the mice and showed it to the front desk person. He said that he will let the manager know about it.

A friend and I were staying here for a night and we noticed right from the beginning that this place was pretty sketchy. When we got into our room, we noticed that there was no deadbolt on the door, leaving us to feel very unsafe as two young women downtown. We noticed that the towels had stains and that there were holes in the walls! We pushed past all of this, determined to have a good stay. However, when we woke up in the morning my friend noticed a mouse running across the room! We were terrified and disgusted. We tried to call the front desk for help but they didn’t answer. When we went to complain to the front desk after we left the room, we were quickly dismissed even though we had a video of the mouse. Extremely disappointed in our stay here, definitely won’t be staying again.

When I checked in, the room was not clean. This was 4 PM , I was told it would be cleaned immediately. after several phone calls the room was cleaned by 6:30. This is unacceptable. They offered me no compensation. Also, the bathroom door locks on the outside , my daughter was locked in the bathroom for quite some time, she almost had to break the door . The latch on front door also did not work. The area around this place is littered with homeless people. Drug users, garbage, profanity, beggars, fights. STAY CLEAR OF THIS PLACE. ...begginstay clear place

Found a mouse running around the room at 2AM. It’s safe to say we stayed up the whole night with no sleep. The area around the hotel is full of cracked out druggies

This place looks nothing at all like the photos shown. The staff was friendly, but was overall very disappointed with the overall cleanliness and vibe compared to what was shown online-- never trust the photos online I guess

I dont even no where to start on how horrible this hotel is..beside the unsafe environment apon check in you cant even get in the hotel without a door code at any hour..so once we finally got in and got to our room the door handle was falling off..we finally get in the room and as i look around the bed was fullll of begs all over..the portable ac was out in the window with cardboard and duck tape so we left the room and went down stairs to the attendant who went and took pictures to send to the owenr and insured we would get a refund because who would sleep ina bed full of begs..have tryed and the owner refused the refund soo not only is it unsafe and dirty you dont believe them..STAY AWAYYYYY

The hotel room was a complete misrepresentation of the room that was posted online. This room was like something in a horror movie! The room was outdated with a noisy AC unit in the wall and FILTHY! There was rust in the bathroom and a water leak under the heater. There was a hole in the wall near the AC and bulges in the walls from bad plaster jobs. There were spider webs in the corners of the ceilings, flys, and little flea like bugs that started biting me. I was awake all night fighting bugs. The worst aspect was that management refused to acknowledge the poor state of the room and refused to issue a refund when I could not stay another night. Do not book this hotel if you value cleanliness and your health!

Old and dirty room !

The pictures on Expedia are misleading. Our room was tiny, barely fit two double beds. The door to the room touched the foot of the bed when open. The PORTABLE a/c unit was very loud. The furniture was mismatched and in poor condition. The paint on the bathroom door was peeling. The bottom of the tub was extremely worn and had been painted to attempt to cover the worn area. The hotel doors are locked and you need to be buzzed in. No security on site from what I could tell. Front desk area is a makeshift desk (table). There was a person from the nightclub next door passed out in the lobby when we arrived. We left the next day and found an amazing hotel down the street.

Overall the room was nice, I had the deluxe room, and it was clean, tidy and quite large, the view was bad though, looked on to a brick wall, but I overall couldn't complain. The only thing I would mention is the area around the hotel can be a bit unsafe at times, I would not recommend going out at night as there was a number of suspicious individuals around. But for the hotel itself I felt fine they lock the front door and provide you a key code to get in to the hotel, that way no one can get in unless they have the code. Now I will say that the individual rooms don't have a deadbolt or a door latch and the only lock it a keycode lock. Also I should mention that at the time of me staying there the internal AC seems to not have been working so they had installed a window AC unit, it worked fine and for my large room it seemed to cool the room well enough. One benefit I did not see mentioned about the area is that there is a box bike rental station very close to the hotel and a IGA grocery store a couple of blocks away if you're trying to be cheap like me while backpacking. Would I recommend this place? For people with families, probably not... But for solo backpackers like me I would recommend it overall.

No good sound insolation between rooms!

I had a good stay in Montreal and enjoyed the accommodation. My room was small but perfect for my needs. The portable air conditioner did not have an exhaust hose so when I turned it on while I went to dinner I returned to a room that was about 90 degrees! The window was closed because of some Yellowjacket visits but the room cooled down eventually when I could open the window after dark. There was a concert right next door so I thought it would be a tough night for sleeping but I never heard a sound.

If you really want to stay in the DT, have your private bath and within a reasonable price range, this is a good place to go. However, the neighborhood is noisy there was a party until midnight and the washroom has smells.

Room is definitely not what you expect as advertised. Room was old and they use a portable AC which they tape the vent to the opened window. Expect flys to come in to the room.

The mattress was poor and bad for form, it was sunken in and very uncomfortable. There was noise everywhere that could be clearly heard in the room- noise from the streets, showers running etc from the next room, cars zooming and all couldn’t be heard from the room

The parking area they said we could use was not safe and not open. The windows were pretty dirty. The AC wasn't quite strong enough for the room/weather.

overall a good stay and fit the needs i was looking for! room is small and with a portable air conditioner which did the job but didn’t really keep it cold. one weird thing is there is no inside lock on the room! no deadbolt or anything so if you’re comfortable with that, i’d recommend this stay

The photos on the website are completely misleading. The actual room was tiny, filthy, and incredibly noisy. The air conditioning was so loud it was unbearable, and I had to turn it off just to get some peace. Even with it off, I couldn’t sleep — I was kept up by people yelling and banging rubbish bins at 2AM. I was suddenly and aggressively told to vacate my room at 7AM while I was still in bed! A guy was literally outside my door, calling me to leave immediately, claiming I had no valid booking. This is simply false.Being kicked out like that was completely unacceptable and unprofessional.

I am writing to formally file a complaint regarding my stay at your hotel from June 10 to June 12, which was extremely disappointing due to several serious issues. Upon arrival around 6:00 p.m., we were given an entry code for Room 406, only to find it already occupied with someone else’s luggage inside. This raised major security concerns. When we returned to reception, the manager casually reassigned us to Room 403, without an apology or explanation. We had booked a family room, but Room 403 was clearly smaller and not what we paid for. No mention was made of the downgrade or the price difference. When we asked for a “Do Not Disturb” sign later, the manager responded, “Don’t worry, I won’t rob you,” which was completely unprofessional. The next day, another staff member said we were still registered in Room 406, adding to the confusion. When we asked for a refund or to be moved to the room we booked, we were told to check out if we wanted a refund. After agreeing, the manager then said it must go through the booking platform. Room 406 was still not cleaned after a full day. When we asked for the manager’s name at checkout, the receptionist refused. Due to the downgrade, poor treatment, unprofessional behavior, and confusion, we respectfully request a refund. I can provide booking confirmation or further details to assist.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, provided anything we asked for, including holding our luggage for no fee after our checkout. Area is walkable and central in Montreal. Rooms are intimate and decorated. Great stay!

The young girl at the "front desk" was not only no help whatsoever she completely and single handedly sabatoged my ability to check in and ended up trying to charge me a $400 room deposit.. Yes FOUR HUNDRE DOLLAR DEPOSIT on a budget room

I stayed at this hotel for two weeks and had an amazing experience. The staff were exceptional—from the cleaners to the rotating receptionists, everyone was friendly, helpful, and professional. I arrived four hours early and was still allowed to check in, which made a great first impression. Throughout my stay, the receptionists were always attentive and ready to assist with anything I needed. My room on the 5th floor looked exactly like the photos—modern, clean, and comfortable. The air conditioning worked well, and housekeeping came every 2–3 days, always knocking first. You can decline cleaning or request it another day. Fresh towels, toiletries, and other essentials were provided upon request. A tip: keep a white light (like the bathroom light) on overnight, as insects are drawn to warm-toned lighting. The location is excellent. Saint-Laurent station is right around the corner, making it easy to get around. Berri-UQAM, about a 10-minute walk away, connects the green, orange, and yellow metro lines, making the whole city easily accessible. There’s a large mall just 4 minutes away, another one about 20 minutes away, and tons of food spots nearby, many open late. Chinatown is just an 8-minute walk. Local festivals are also common in the area—some noise, but I still slept well. Only downside: there are many homeless people around, especially near Chinatown. Most are harmless, but it’s something to be aware of. Overall, a fantastic stay. I’d definitely return.

Easily the worst hotel experience I've ever had. I travel alone a lot and have stayed in hotels at a variety of price points but this place was something else. The small stuff: the bed had a bunch of hair in it and the sink backed up when used/chunks of stuff would come up and make the water brown. The big thing: This hotel states that it has an elevator, however upon arrival i was told that the floor my room was on is only accessible by stairs. I let them know that this wouldn't work for me as part of the reason I booked the hotel was for the elevator because I have difficulty with stairs due to medical reasons. The front desk staff were polite and let me know there weren't other rooms available. I requested a refund and booked a room at another hotel for the following day. Staff were nice enough to help me with my items up and down the stairs but the hotel immediately refused to refund. I've now been going back and forth with Expedia and the hotel. I'm not requesting a refund because the hotel is gross, I'm requesting one because they advertised that the hotel is accessible when it isn't. I was not able to stay because of their misrepresentation. If there are rooms that are not accessible by elevator they need to clearly state that before people book. Thankfully, I was having one of my good days so I could get myself up and down the stairs for the one night. But imagine if I had been there on a day where I couldn't physically use them?? No doubt they'd just say tough luck.

The room and front desk staff were great, but it does get very noisy at night, especially on weekends, and the walls and windows aren’t great at blocking noise. Also, in the middle of the night someone walked into our room, even though the door was locked. Scary, especially because the doors use pin codes to unlock, not cards.

My recent stay in Montreal was made even better by the incredibly friendly and welcoming staff at the hotel reception. A huge thank you to Sheikh and Adina (I believe that was her name!) for their outstanding helpfulness. They truly made a difference and were a pleasure to interact with every time.

This place is right on Rue St. Catherine (although at the east end of it, where it starts to get a little less touristy) , just minutes from the Old Port and in a convenient downtown area. Keeping in mind it is only a 2.5 star hotel, I found it to be perfectly fine (it's all relative, right?). Rooms are small (as advertised in photos) and there is the MTelus venue right next door that I suppose might get loud as other reviewers have said, but since I was there to attend a concert there, I wasnt in the room until afterwards, and i didn't find it noisy then. I had a room with private bath so I can't speak for the shared bathrooms. I found the staff to be very friendly and my room was clean and bright and well air-conditioned. I wanted affordable and didn't expect Hilton level rooms or service, so I would definitely come back. I don't spend much time in the hotel room when traveling anyway.

The location of this hotel is near by everything but it's in a hot spot where drug addicts and homeless rome the streets .Extremely unsafe . If I would of known this I wouldn't have stayed there. The noise at nite from the police and ambulance is exhausting.

In room 202 the bed was very comfortable (2 queen beds) and the room was spacious. The room was clean. Outside the apartment was not the best area. Across the street is an alley filled with drug users. A dozen motorcycles (harley types) are parked across from the hotel. They come and go all night and create a lot of noise. The police station must be nearby. Heard sirens throughtout the night.

The hotel and staff were great! However the street noise was high, so not for a light sleeper.

Very acceptable accommodation given the price and location! Within walking distance to Old Montreal and the Notre Dame Basilica. The room was very spacious, clean and nicely decorated. Bathroom had a large soaker tub. Don’t be fooled by the exterior of the hotel. It’s very kitschy but has an old time vibe to it. Will definitely stay there again when I’m in Montreal!

The location is fairly convenient for mass transit.

The hotel itself was a nice stay, exactly what you’d expect for the price. Beware of location, lots of sketchy characters around! There’s quite a few homeless and druggies nearby as it’s the entertainment district. There’s also quite a bit of noise, you can hear cars and people partying at night.

I liked that we were sent a code to get in to the building after-hours and a code to get into our room. Unfortunately, they needed codes because they can't leave the doors open for people to come and go, due to it being an unsafe neighbourhood. There were alot of high/drunk and sketchy people walking around. Also, the sign only said "Hotel". It was not clear we were in the right place. We did not see the name of the hotel anywhere. Inside, the room was nice. There were two beds, a desk/chair, a dresser, a large screen TV, and a refrigerator. No coffee machine. Muffins and coffee were offered downstairs in the lobby, which was a nice surprise.

Staff were friendly and informative. The interior design, the high ceiling and the lighting are great. The hotel itself is clean but in my room, it was weird that the sink was beside the bed and the air conditioner was intermittently turning on and off. Also, I could hear some people from the street yelling. Good thing, I was tired and still able to sleep. I also like the free coffee.
