11 Mi to Boone: Secluded Pet-Friendly Cabin!

Overall the property was well above expectations based off previous rental experiences.Minor issues - front door deadbolt, had to replace batteries, - had to fix door knob because it would not open from inside. - Sink in bathroom was missing stopper. - Mattress and boxspring in downstairs bedroom needs replacing.

Communication with the owner was terrible. Her daughter was my contact since the owner was on vacation. The lock box and punch code access did not work so I could not check in the first night. The daughter met me the next day and let me in with a new code and gave me one of the spare keys so I would not have to contend with a possible lock out, again. I was told that the only source of heat was a fireplace, so I had to bring in a portable heater the first night to stay warm, only to discover the next day that the cabin is heated and cooled by central heating and air conditioning. The unit control was not visible and is hidden behind a door. Also, there is an outside light on a telephone pole. It was not working. I reported this to the daughter and photographed the lamp so she could determine which power company to contact. No further communication regarding that.I requested of the daughter, multiple times, to extend my stay by one day in exchange for the first night that I could not gain access to the cabin. I had to go through the Vrbo staff several times over several days to finally get an answer from the owner via the staff.The cabin was clean although some of the window seals had dead bugs in them and the wooden blinds were dusty. The front and back porch had piles of leaves and an empty bird nest, so I swept everything.The cabin, itself, is very nice and I would stay there again if I knew communication and responsiveness would not be an issue.

The house was pretty nice. Directions were misleading and check in was poor. We did not receive an email with directions to get into the house until after 4:00pm and I had to call VRBO customer service to get the password. When we got there, the password didn’t work. So we had to call back again. Fireplace directions said not to use until further notice followed by directions on how to turn it on. When we walked in, the pilot light was already on. The master bed was very wobbly and seemed broken. The house was nice though.

The cabin was cozy. All beds were comfortable. The microwave and toaster oven were not working. We managed by using the stove/oven. Utensils and some dishes were unclean.

Everything was fine ACCEPT the cabin was either home to cats or cats were recently present. I am extremely allergic, and my stay was impacted by that. No trash outlet readily available, had to drive to a landfill. No big deal, but something I would have preferred.Fair overall......
