Makahuena at Poipu

Our group of 4 adults and two children under 8 had a very enjoyable stay. We found everything we needed in the kitchen and prepared most of our meals there. It was great to have 3 bedrooms so we could all have our own space. The washer and dryer were wonderful and used often by our group. The kids enjoyed the sand buckets and shovels and it was a plus to also have beach chairs and a wagon to transport them all to the beach. We all enjoyed the salt water pool but wished it had been heated. The hot tub provided a nice warm up! Location was near beaches and restaurants. We would consider returning to this condo if we return to Kauai.

Our party had two ladies in their 80s and four other ladies, mid 50s to mid 60s. We were able to hear the waves crashing in and watched beautiful sunrises and sunsets. We thoroughly enjoyed this property. Pool was great too!!! Bbq area was great too! Pickleball court was great too.

Comfortable and quiet bedrooms, great location! We had a couple issues, but property manager addressed them promptly. Pool was a nice temp and our kids liked that it was deep enough for diving.

The condo is exactly like the pics, beautiful, clean, and spacious. The kitchen is stocked with all the pots, pans, cooking utensils… we cooked dinner almost every night and found everything we needed. The sliding doors open up to the grassy area surrounding the pool, and has a great view. The outdoor areas are very well maintained with grills to bbq, lawn chairs for whale watching, benches for sun set and beautiful flowers surrounding. One of the beach chairs was broken when we arrived, within a few hours a new chair was delivered to us, great customer service!! We will definitely go back!

Construction starts at 6am weekdays and weekends. Dirt and dust everywhere and washer/dryer broken can’t even go on the balcony to enjoy the construction aka ocean views. Not sure why it wasn’t included information when we booked. It was a huge disappointment.

Excellent location to enjoy Poipu area, easily walkable to beach ( uphill return). We needed to keep front door open to get cool breeze into apartment. Would have appreciated aircon, however did know in advance that there wasn’t any. Property is well maintained including the pool and spa. Enjoy watching turtles in the surf! Would stay again.

The condo looked exactly like the pictures online. It was spotless! It had so many amenities…especially if you have young children (we did not). There are plenty of beach toys, and towels. Also extremely roomy. There’s a beautiful pool and hiking trails nearby. The owners were very responsive! We really enjoyed our stay and time in Kauai. I would definitely stay again!

Beautiful condo & grounds, great location. This place has a very practical set-up for families & extended families, and everything you need to feel at home. Meticulously clean, a beautiful pool and grilling area, and lovely patio to relax on. Perfect!

The property was very nice and well kept. The ocean view was great. It can be a little loud next to the pool at times and most restraunts and shops require you to drive.

Really enjoyed our time! The place was as advertised. Excellent view and the facilities were nice. Pool, jacuzzi, bbq etc. all excellent and clean. Even got some tennis in. I would rent again in the future.

The property was very clean and even more spacious than we expected. Location is amazing!

Our favorite part of this rental was sitting on the Lanai every morning, enjoying watching sunrise and the waves crash against the rocky shore below. Even saw whales , dolphins and turtles from the Lanai. The second was the spaciousness and layout. The complex was quiet and safe and we had no issues with parking. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 were : The guest bathroom shower having very poor to no water pressure due to a bad tub spout which did not get fixed during our stay(the management company said they ordered a spout) . The trash can in the kitchen was half full of garbage when we arrived and the place was fairly clean but not as clean as it should be. Some other things didn't work but weren't significant enough to worry about. The AC in both bedrooms worked great as did everything in the kitchen. Plenty of amenities . Overall great stay, amazing island. Would stay in this condo again

Photos are accurate and plenty of space for our family. A few things could be replaced or deep cleaned. They had everything we needed and our kids appreciated the sand toys. Overall nice stay.

We really enjoyed our stay. You can't beat the location, and we loved watching the sunrises and sunsets. I've pointed out a few issues to the property managers, the main ones being concerns about some blinds, and that the unit could use a deep cleaning. Hopefully they'll address these because this would otherwise be a wonderful place for a family vacation.

The property itself was amazing and there are many updated units on the property which was built in the 70’s. Our unit which was larger so we could sleep 5 was very spacious and appears to be in a slow remodeling phase as we found a lot of lumber and pipes hidden in many dusty corners. Not the cleanest room upon arrival but definitely not worth me contacting anyone, which I never did. Everything was contactless and hassle free which we loved. The stairs were the real only complaint because they were not properly replaced and every step was extremely loud causing a lot of wake ups with two teenage boys in the house. The property was very nice and surrounded by the pacific with many enjoyable places to take in her power and beauty. Definitely could have been cleaner and possibly a little less being worked on but definitely fit our budget with the larger family.

We enjoyed the location and amenities of this rental. Overall we gave it 4/5 given the condition of rental from a cleanliness standpoint wasn't the best. It certainly wasn't a dealbreaker or worth raising concerns over. The pocket and sliding doors could use some good maintenance. Would definitely stay here again.

Sunset is viewable on the lanai, and sunrise is an easy paved walk within the small Makahuena community to the benches. There is also a gate that will take you out to the public walking path to see the lava arch (2 min), walk to Shipwreck beach (15 min) to see the monk seal, and hike the Maha'ulepu Heritage Trail, where you will be rewarded with more amazing views of the ocean side cliffs and mountains! Brennecke beach (great for boogie boarding) and Poipu beach (large sea turtles) was also a short drive away. The property was easy to access since it was right off the main entrance and provided plenty of beach chairs, umbrellas, snorkel gear, beach towels, and beach toys. The beds were comfortable, and the decor was just right. A/C units are available in each of the bedrooms, but it was noisy for sleeping so we had the fans on at night instead. The main living area was warmer since A/C isn't available throughout the unit, but it was a comfortable temperature with the ceiling fans. The main shared bathroom had an odor; otherwise, no issues with 5 people showering back-to-back after a day at the beach as long as the last person is ok with a cooler shower. Large washer and dryer came in handy with detergent provided. We didn't use the TV (at first glance, it didn't appear straightforward to use) since we were out and about most of the day. It was also a short drive to The Shops at Kukui'ula and Old Koloa Town for food and shopping. Lihue airport is about 30 minutes away, and the Costco near the airport is a great place to pick up Hawaiian snacks (lots of local snack choices like giant furikake shrimp chips that we don't get on the mainland), Hawaiian shirts and sarongs, and sushi (we had a sample of the crunch roll deluxe and decided to grab one). Don't forget to grab your Hawaiian donuts early because the bakeries are near Lihue and are closed SUN / MON. Those that are open run out of malasadas by 8AM!

Property is dated but functional No AC is a bit of a killer but with some effort we got enough air flow through the unit Some units do have ac so read the details carefully -I missed that

Overall good stay. Great views from property. Upstairs neighbor very noisy. 25 a day for Poipu athletic club a waste of money, should be optional. Should provide key for trail access.

Enjoyed our 5 night stay here. The unit is stocked with everything you need. We especially enjoyed all the beach gear - made life so easy! The views on the deck are spectacular. Watched the sunset whenever we were home and ate all meals on the patio. Can watch the surfers and just enjoy the amazing view. Not having A/C can be an issue, but if you utilize the fans & open the right windows properly you can get a great breeze going through the unit. We didn't utilize the pool or hot/tub as we kept busy exploring during the day. The only recommendation I would make is the blue towels should be replaced as they had an odor to them even after we washed again. Minor detail. We were able to do wash every night and keep on top of keeping the unit clean. It is centrally located to everything in the area and has a great Poke shack on site. Great place to stay!

This was our first time staying east of the Poipu green belt, and we LOVED it! You could see the resort lights to the west, and you could walk both to the popular Poipu beaches, and ship wreck beach. We found this condo to be more relaxing and natural than others we stayed at. You can watch both the sunrise and sunset from this condo, and the waves and views were spectacular! We loved walking the heritage trail in the morning and evening. It is humid and wet in the main living area because you are literally a stones throw from the ocean cliffs, but it did not bother our family. There is air conditioning in the bedrooms, and the bedrooms can be closed off for sleeping. We would consider staying at this location again if it was available. Mahalo:)

Overall terrific stay at this condo. Short walk to Poipu Beach and the Grand Hyatt. Kitchen and bathrooms well stocked so didn't need to purchase anything except food. Lots of beach chairs, umbrellas, and toys which was great. Only down side to this unit is no privacy for the master bedroom. It is fairly open to the living room and shares a bathroom with one of the other bedrooms.

We enjoyed the condo it is spacious, but it was really hot. If there was a security screen front door to open the air could come through with the sliders open. The kitchen window and the first bedrooms windows did not open. There are no fans in the bathrooms. The sliders were difficult to lock but there are dowels to place in the door tracks for security.

The condo grounds were beautiful. The condo itself is nicely situated near the ocean lookout, pool, and BBQ. There is a walking path nearby that takes you towards the Grand Hyatt and you are within walking distance to Poipu Beach. The kitchen had most everything we needed, the AC was a huge plus, the in unit washer/dryer were perfect (especially with the weather, wet towels don't seem to dry, it was nice to throw them in the dryer when we got back) and the ground floor lanai is nice to relax. Only downside for us was the bed/pillows, both weren't very comfortable for our liking.

The condo was great! I would stay here again. The condo was very spacious and clean. The views of the ocean and sunset from the balcony are breathtaking. It was very peaceful. The condo was well stocked. Very close to beaches, restaurants, and shops.I contacted the property manager to request a last minute early check-in and she responded very quickly.

Our stay for a family wedding was great. We had no problems and our questions were quickly answered even though we asked late on a Sunday. Location was perfect.

The condo was perfect - It was comfortable and had plenty of space for the 6 of us. It was well stocked with everything we needed. And it had a beautiful view of the ocean. I was very thankful for the AC in the bedrooms! They did a really good job of keeping the whole condo a comfortable temperature. We didn’t really need anything during our stay but the one time I texted the property manager she was quick to respond! We would definitely stay here again.

Overall the unit was as advertised and provided our family of 5 lots of space. We loved having all of the beach items that came with the rental (snorkel gear, boogie boards, sand toys, beach chairs, umbrella...)! The kitchen was fully stocked and also kid friendly with plastic cups, plates, bowls. We had one question about where to find parking passes and owners responded instantly to our text and also email during our stay to ensure everything was going well. Location is also great with a short drive to Poipu Beach, hiking trails along the beach, and lots of restaurant options with 5-10 minute drive. Highly recommend!

It was a great location near beaches - you could walk to two within 15 minutes (you can see from the grounds). Restaurants nearby as well. Try a puka dog! Went to Friendly Waves for lunch. Condo is exactly as advertised. Well-stocked kitchen. Very responsive host. Great beaches and hiking trails nearby. The cliff-side hiking trail was a favorite sunrise activity - with visible whales. The lookout point on the property was beautiful too.
