Crystalbrook Kingsley

Great hotel, well located and in walking distance to most things in city centre. The roof top bar & restaurant are a stand out. The rooms were funky and fun and well presented.

Decor and food beautiful. No driveway to park your car while checking in. Only parking on site is $50 valet parking which is ridiculous. A real shame - won’t be staying here again due to parking.

Nice new modern hotel with great bar on the top floor

Despite the hotel being overall better than average, there were several issues that made giving the Cystalbrook Kingsley a lower than 5-star rating. Firstly, the Valet service was not a proper valet service. There was no entrance to drive in to and the business was using the reception check-in staff to be the valet. We had expensive items in our car and felt the need to watch over our vehicle until in the end I had to insist that our vehicles were parked. They also charged $50 a night for this service which was well overpriced when compared to other Crystalbrook hotels we had recently stayed at. Furthermore, they also keep your vehicle keys making it more difficult to access the car if required. There were also several cleanliness issues with the room. My wife found old blood stains on the corner of the underlay and the shower base was starting to grow some quality Mould. Our room was on the opposite side to King street directly above a noisy beer garden. This was not the hotels' fault, but something to consider if you are staying at the hotel over the weekend. You could tell that they had tried hard with the interior decorating of the room, but the layout was less than desirable with a two-seater couch, a table, single sitting chair and purpose built mini-bar all jammed into one corner of the room making it impossible to use all the items at once. Overall, our stay was OK but a little bit disappointing after seeing the hotel on TV and being quite excited about our stay.

The architecture is special at this hotel and well matched by the staff service. They always went above and beyond to assist. The rooms are well appointed, functional and spacious as well as efficient in operation. There is no gym on site but it is a 5 minute walk away and a great facility. Ate at the restaurant too and it was excellent with superb views. My go to in Newcastle!

We stayed at Crystalbrook Kingsley as we were attending a show at the Civic Theatre next door. This was our second time, and we had fond memories of having pre-show drinks at Rombards on L9, watching the sun go down with amazing views over the harbour. This time we were to be sadly disappointed. After travelling up to L9 and disembarking the lift, we were met with a staff member telling us the bar was closed to hotel guests as there was a private function on! Seriously? We then went down to the G level bar, which was full of hotel guests unable to access the L9 bar and had to sit outside with our drinks - which if the area had atmosphere - we would not have minded at all. Disappointingly, it did not. For an establishment that prides itself on luxury accommodation, this outside area looks like an afterthought - or no thought at all. We thought we would have a post-show drink, only to find that none of the bars in this five-star hotel were open! We thought that if there is a show on at the theatre next door, and quite a few of your hotel guests are there for that show, why wouldn't you accommodate your guests? Underwhelming, oversight, disappointing.

I did not realize when I booked that I would be forced to use Valet Parking @ $ 50.00 per night nor did I realize the restaurant was not open on Sundays Then the TV did not work in the room and I had to change rooms

For a five-star hotel, it was poor. No smile or welcome from the checking-in staff. The room was overcluttered with furniture. The restaurant was closed on Sunday for Lunch and Dinner. No pool. The windows (from the outside) in the room were so dirty that it was hard to see outside. Not value for money.

Very disappointed that, having returned from the theatre at 9.30pm, couldn't get a drink at the hotel (we were hosting some very important (to me) clients). I understand that there was a function on the 9th floor bar, but maybe when that is the case, the lobby bar could stay open for a short while longer. Bar staff were fairly rude too.

Overall, enjoyed staying in this hotel. Good location for exploring the city and eateries. Liked the interior of room which is morden and chic. Check-in/out staff were helpful and efficient which made smooth process. Also really liked the idea of filtered water tap facility on corridor, which was useful. The reason I didn't give 5 star is the housekeeping issue. We stayed 2 nights but didn't empty rubbish bin and didn't vacuum bathroom floor so I could see long hairs on the bathroom floor. I didn't expect this service with 5 star hotel. One more thing I'd like to mention is that, would be better to have more towel haning hooks in the bathroom as I found a bit annoying that I couldn't hang my clothes while having shower.

Disappointing. Room was tiny and cramped. There was underwear from previous guest left on floor beside bed, bottom sheet did not fit bed. Both reported to front desk. Could clearly hear the music from the pub downstairs and we were on level 5. Staff were excellent both at reception and in restaurant but won't be back.

Great stay for one night, just really needs a window clean

The room was dirty, dusty bunnies behind the doors and under the sink and the toiletries provided had been ransacked and not replaced. The valet booking system from the tablet in the room failed to register the booking twice. The staff were amazing and the bed is ultra comfy

Dålig service och dåligt städat rum. Tex städades inte ett bord i vårt rum som vi använt för roomservice måltid på två dagar. Blev väckt av receptionen kl 8.00 på en söndagmorgon för att de skulle berätta att deras tvättservice inte kunde tvätta vår tvätt. Det kan man ju lämna en lapp med info om och inte väcka gäster på en helgmorgon med info som man ändå inte kan göra något åt.

We thought we would try here as we’ve heard it’s the best in Newcastle. We were so wrong! We had to clean the outside of the toilet as there was some brown matter on it! The shower was mouldy and there was a wet dirty shower cleansing puff sponge hanging on the shower head. The floor was dirty in the bathroom. We couldn’t get the TV to work. Very disappointing as this is one of the most expensive places to stay in Newcastle. We will never be back.

Room was not clean and iPad needed to order food or do anything was flat. Reception staff were very helpful trying to assist but didn’t seem empowered to do anything to compensate.

Lovely hotel with a nice ambiance. We were disappointed that the restaurant was fully booked. Our Park view room on Level 5 was nicely decorated and very comfortable. Only thing it didn’t have was a mirror in the main room (which comes in handy). The bed was comfortable and aircon was the perfect temperature.

Nice place right next to Town Hall. No driveway so you park at 5min spot on street and check in and then need to valet or find parking (not undercover if it’s raining!). Rooms small but ok (I had a harbour view room which was a nice view from 7th floor) Didn’t have BF but dinner room service was OK but not fantastic.

ULTRA FAST INTERNET. Great self check-in. VERY SMALL ROOMS unfortunately.

The beds were very uncomfortable

We booked an Urban King room and were allocated level 5. We didn’t get off to a great start. The instructions we were given was for valet parking park in the 5 min valet zone out the front. I expected to find a valet zone sign. There is none. Check-i was polite but far from welcoming or friendly. We were referred to the in-room tablet for hotel information. This is a disaster. It’s slow and clunky and sometimes freezes. eg. To see the breakfast menu you have to click on the roundhouse restaurant (how do you know that’s where breakfast is?) then click on lunch and dinner then click on breakfast. The same tablet has menus for the bar and restaurant and says the bar opens at 5. It really opens at 5:30 so we spent some fun times in the lifts with several other couples trying to get to the bar without success. The restaurant has a set 3 course menu (according to the tablet) and we couldn’t see any pre-theatre dining option. Over the phone they had taken my dinner reservation for 5:30 but it wasn’t in the system when I checked in and the restaurant doesn’t open until 6 anyway. The room is modern and nice. Aircon and wifi worked well. There was some road noise, corridor noise and city hum so I’m glad I brought earplugs. It’s right next door to the Civic Theatre which is handy for shows (but a pre-theatre menu would make it even handier). We slept well. Breakfast was very good. There’s a selection from the cold buffet and hot items are chosen from an a la carte menu. Nice.

Small rooms for the price per night!!!

Great room, really well designed. Excellent staff and the valet parking was fantastic.

The hotel itself was perfect in terms of location and cleanliness. However we where extremely disappointed with the service we received in the bar. We had arranged to meet fellow residents there for for drinks at 9.30 pm and were informed by a very rude host that we needed to book in advance - the bar was half empty. It took time to convince her to let us stand at the bar and was asked by two other staff members if the host had allowed us to stand there.? Eventually we did get a seat and ordered a drink. But we felt unwelcome in the bar of the hotel we were residents in which tainted out stay . Terrible policy there should be seats at bar for walk ins or at the very least this policy should be explained at check in .

Super friendly staff, from the time we arrived, to dining, room service and everything in-between. They made us feel very welcome, not like guests, but like 'part of the family'. A BIG thank you for making our stay a special and memorable one.

Very slow check-in. Told room ready in 5 mins. Go back and then get told another 30 mins. Once in room receive a phone call to say card didn't go through. Car parking is troublesome even though valet. Parking rangers were booking people on our return from a day trip in the 5 min zone and nowhere for us to stop. Room itself was nice and bed comfortable although not 5 star standard. One day the room wasn't made up properly - bed not made well, bin not emptied, water not replenished.

This is an excellent property in a great location. Unfortunately, the service was not that of a premium property. There were long lines for check in and inconsistent messaging around the availability of parking. While checking in numerous people were offered valet parking however when requesting it we were told the carpark was full despite others continuing to be offered while I was still standing at counter.

This hotel exceeded my expectations in terms of layout, style, comfortably and the hotel scent. It was completely let down by a few staff interactions. Between housekeeping, being extremely poor for our room Refresh, towels being taken not replaced, Calling the front desk asking for these to be replaced and then being questioned why we needed more towel towels opposed to just saying yes. Asking questions of the Front Desk and no one knowing answers that were pretty simple things. Any requests for things to be delivered to the room took multiple follow ups.

The room was clean and comfortable. The refrigerator worked properly. (BIG issue for me. Most other stays, its luke warm). The staff were friendly. The location is good, close to everything. BUT Breakfast... Only one guest ate Breakfast, the other stayed in bed. The hotel charged us for 2 eating breakfast 3 mornings in a row. $117 overcharged. And unwilling to refund. For this reason, won't go back. Will stay at Ridges only 300 metres away next tim

Whilst the property is lovely and the roof top bar is fantastic, the noise from the pub next door is terrible. When I complained twice about this, I was informed that " we normally warn people on check in" - too late when you have paid for the room!

Loved the Crystalbrook for our two night stay. Foyer and downstairs bar is great. Rooms are very clean and styled very nicely. Didn’t go to the restaurant and bar on the top floor. In a great location and a five minute walk to the waterfront.

It is a unique property with its circular design. Great bar and restaurant overlooking the city. The thing I was most surprised about was that the rooms were not sound proofed. The morning traffic and the nearby town hall clock tower can be quite loud

Great inner-city location. Next to Town Hall, so be prepared for a loud clock tower chiming out every hour. Room was lovely.

Great location, opposite a beautiful park and cultural precinct on one side and overlooking a working harbour (sort walk) with waterfront boardwalk on the other. Staff were friendly and helpful and room was spacious, clean, modern and comfortable

The Kingsley is close to everything. I could not fault the staff for impeccable service. Though it has listed soundproof windows, it was still not immune from outside noise. One thing that customers should check, is that the quoted price from wotif matches the price paid at check-in. I am still following this up, hopefully there will be a good reason why I paid more than wotif's price.

The only aspect that needs improvement is the in-room dining menu, there needs to be more choices.

This is definitely not a 5 star hotel, there was no dining in the restaurant or drinks from the bar for the 2 nights we stayed there. Rooms clean, but have stayed in bigger motel rooms. As for keeping a green footprint no option for reuse of towels.

Nice modern hotel with comfortable rooms and a good breakfast buffet. I did find a hair in the mushrooms at breakfast. Staff was apologetic, but I was a little surprised no small goodwill gesture (like a comped coffee) was offered. Overall, a pleasant stay with a minor service miss

Fantastic hotel with a nice signature scent. Enjoyed the buffet breakfast on the top floor with great views to be had while eating. Great central location, walking distance to everywhere, so many dining options nearby, highly recommend, we would stay here again in a heart beat!

Beautiful hotel. Great location. Staff were friendly but wait times at reception and in the bar were terrible. They were clearly understaffed. We ordered three meals from room service and it was very poor quality. Worst burger and pasta we have had in a long time.

I had issues with the tablet and couldn't order dinner. Their resolution was to try to fix and then replace the tablet, instead of just letting me order the food. I did tell them I was hungry and getting the order in was my priority. Once the food arrived, it was absolutely excellent.

Check in process took too long. No Buffet breakfast Monday morning.
