What a place! Very special place to stay, so nice to stay somewhere far away from the norm. Stunning rooms set in the old cells. Very well appointed with a beautiful bathroom, bathrobe and slippers. Very comfortable bed/pillows and everything you would need for a comfortable stay. The Chapel cocktail bar is awesome with great staff and a cosy atmosphere. The Chapel restaurant food is the best I've tasted with very good service. Nice little gym and a free tour of the old jail thrown in. Well worth a visit, this hotel is very special

Excellent in every way. Nice rooms, spacious, made up of three cells. Wonderful bathroom with bath and separate shower. Amazing breakfast that was included. Plenty of character. Free parking. My girlfriend says room slightly dusty but I didn’t notice. A coffee machine would have been nice (rather than instant coffee). Highly recommended.
Excellent in every way. Nice rooms, spacious, made up of three cells. Wonderful bathroom with bath and separate shower. Amazing breakfast that was included. Plenty of character. Free parking. My girlfriend says room slightly dusty but I didn’t notice. A coffee machine would have been nice (rather than instant coffee). Highly recommended.

Hotel beautiful and room top class very clean amazing slept very well. One restaurant to choose from with only selection of a la carte which is a very old fashioned way to eat , which makes us uncomfortable. We had room service which was lovely but we would have preferred to eat in a restaurant/pub which we thought there was and is still advertised on google. Also cafe is advertised until 9pm but actually closes at 4.30pm.

Wow what an amazing place. We absolutely loved our stay here. The only thing missing is a pool and maybe a spa but I hear its on the plan .. That will be the cherry on the top either way we will defintely be back.

A delightful stay in prison. Food, staff and accommodation perfect. The facilities available gym, Champagne Bar, complimentary soft drinks. Excellent room service options for your meal to be served in your cell. A must if in Bodmin area and you want to treat yourself

When we arrived we were given a Local's Pass which entitled us to a 20% Discount in certain locations. One member of staff did not know how to apply the discount but it was sorted out by Reception on check-out. The TV signal was awful!

Overall, we had a thoroughly enjoyable stay. The Reception staff were welcoming and informative. Our cell was was something else, being three cells knocked together! The furnishings made the room extremely comfortable. Bathroom facilities were excellent except for requiring a plastic Ikea basin to be placed in the sink to allow wet shaves because there is no plug! This is because of listed building regulations. However, this being the case, a more shaped, up market insert basin would have been appropriate for an high end hotel. Take an electric razor! The Champagne Bar and Chapel Restaurant were fabulous. The food was a very tasty, well presented, four course meal with Champagne and Cocktails. The staff were very helpful and interested. The following day, we went to the Bodmin Jail experience that was so well done. An initial audiovisual presentation was thoroughly informative, followed by a visit to the museum section. All in all, the hotel and museum are very much recommended.

The hotel is a stunning building, that has been restored to the highest level. The rooms have mini-bars with complimentary soft drinks from local producers and there are four EV charging bays that are also free. My only gripe was that we couldn't get the air conditioning to work.

From the moment we arrived we were very impressed with how the building has been restored, both outside and inside, retaining many original features. We were given a warm welcome by the staff who were happy to share their knowledge of the building. Our room had everything we needed and, considering the walls were stone, it was spotless. We enjoyed the Champagne Bar and The Chapel (for evening meal and breakfast), all of which were excellent. The later check out gave us time to explore the building. We look forward to a further stay in the future and would highly recommend.

The accommodation was immaculately clean. Checkin was smooth and friendly, the concierge who took our bags to our room was knowledgeable and helpful. We were in two minds about eating in the restaurant but were very pleased we did the food was delicious don’t be put off by other negative reviews. All in all we had a great room and lovely food with impeccable service. They are all really pleasant and helpful. We did the tour and that was fun too. We will not hesitate to stay again.

Lovely three night stay with my daughter. Very welcoming and attentive staff. Always said hello and asked if we needed anything as soon as they saw us. The room was well presented with a mini fridge as well as the usual tea&coffee. The bathroom was lovely and warm with a nice big shower (and separate deep bath). Lovely fluffy towels and robes. It took a while to get the temperature right in the room (it was very warm) but we got there with a little play on the controller. The Chapel restaurant was also too warm for us so we had breakfast in our room on the 2nd & 3rd mornings. The selection and quality of food was excellent although the chef didn’t want to bend from the prescribed menu - pancakes came with berries. Bacon came as part of the cooked breakfast. We requested pancakes with bacon not berries. It took a bit of persuading but we got there. A really quiet stay, couldn’t hear any other guests at all through the thick walls. I enjoyed it so much I’m hoping to return with my husband and visit the museum as well next time

A very unique hotel. The family cell is (and I think that they are all like this) three original cells knocked into one. Bathroom was lovely and spacious, only downer was that there was a long hair in the shower and in the bath. The bath only ran at two temps too; very hot or boiling, so we had to let that cool down significantly before we could use it. The “well stocked” mini bar consisted of two bottles of water; still and sparkling and two bottles of milk, very disappointing, there is more in a budget-chain hotel fridge. And the safe was already locked so we couldn’t use that. Any staff that we bumped into whilst at the hotel were incredibly friendly and helpful if we needed anything. Very quiet hotel lobby, never been in such a quiet hotel reception and it does have a wow factor as you go in. We had a delicious breakfast in the hotel but ate out in the village of St Kew for our dinner. The Champagne Bar was quiet when we were there (mid-week), but the cocktails were great and nice soft drinks for our under 18’s. All in all a lovely place to stay and enjoy some history. We did the self-guided museum tour after breakfast as we didn’t want to get our children frightened before bedtime. That was a very interesting and cool tour, I’d recommend that as part of your stay too. If you are looking for something unusual and a bit of luxury to go with it, then this is your hotel.

We stayed one night in a family room, the rooms were very tastefully designed and accommodated the 3 of us comfortably. The entire hotel is immaculate and has been transformed from former prison to hotel perfectly. We dined at The Chapel restaurant for both dinner and breakfast and the food was amazing. Would definitely recommend staying here.

The hotel is a very impressive and imposing building, the staff are lovely and the food is exceptional. The way the old jail has been converted to a hotel is really quite amazing. All the fixtures and fittings are of a very high standard. We loved the room and the fact that it had previously been 3 prison cells! It’s also in a good position for exploring Cornwall.

Absolutely WOW. What an amazing place. Room was very comfortable and whole place was very quiet. Lots to look at within the building. Food was great and staff were also very helpful and friendly. Will definitely be going back if we are in that area. The museum next door was amazing too, well worth a visit.

Lovely three night stay with my daughter. Very welcoming and attentive staff. Always said hello and asked if we needed anything as soon as they saw us. The room was well presented with a mini fridge as well as the usual tea&coffee. The bathroom was lovely and warm with a nice big shower (and separate deep bath). Lovely fluffy towels and robes. It took a while to get the temperature right in the room (it was very warm) but we got there with a little play on the controller. The Chapel restaurant was also too warm for us so we had breakfast in our room on the 2nd & 3rd mornings. The selection and quality of food was excellent although the chef didn’t want to bend from the prescribed menu - pancakes came with berries. Bacon came as part of the cooked breakfast. We requested pancakes with bacon not berries. It took a bit of persuading but we got there. A really quiet stay, couldn’t hear any other guests at all through the thick walls. I enjoyed it so much I’m hoping to return with my husband and visit the museum as well next time

Simply WOW! It is a beautiful hotel….book ahead during the peak travel season to get on the guided tour. We did the self guided tour which was very good, but a great tour guide would have filled in little bits and pieces …..plus I think there’s a haunted walk component to it! If you get a chance book Room 304 as it’s a corner room on the top floor and the ONLY one with an additional window with a decent view (4 windows versus just 3). Each room is composed of 3 ‘cells’….bathroom cell very luxurious, entry cell for sitting, and bedroom cell. The 3 cells are now open concept, hence not claustrophobic. Our room had 2 tvs (not sure why) worked by the same 1 remote. The bathrobes were the SOFTEST I’ve ever experienced! The continental breakfast was spectacular and generous. They had the best coffee I had in all of England. This hotel was worth the splurge!!

A fantastic stay and what an experience! Would highly recommend anyone to stay here. Great friendly welcome and everyone here could not do enough for you. The room was amazing and had the best nights sleep. We had a complimentary soft drink mini bar which was a nice touch. Bathroom was amazing too. We didn't eat here in the evening as had lunch at Rick Steins in Padstow, however, really enjoyed breakfast. Really can't wait to stay here again. THANK YOU Bodmin Jail Hotel, we will be back.

A very unique hotel. The family cell is (and I think that they are all like this) three original cells knocked into one. Bathroom was lovely and spacious, only downer was that there was a long hair in the shower and in the bath. The bath only ran at two temps too; very hot or boiling, so we had to let that cool down significantly before we could use it. The “well stocked” mini bar consisted of two bottles of water; still and sparkling and two bottles of milk, very disappointing, there is more in a budget-chain hotel fridge. And the safe was already locked so we couldn’t use that. Any staff that we bumped into whilst at the hotel were incredibly friendly and helpful if we needed anything. Very quiet hotel lobby, never been in such a quiet hotel reception and it does have a wow factor as you go in. We had a delicious breakfast in the hotel but ate out in the village of St Kew for our dinner. The Champagne Bar was quiet when we were there (mid-week), but the cocktails were great and nice soft drinks for our under 18’s. All in all a lovely place to stay and enjoy some history. We did the self-guided museum tour after breakfast as we didn’t want to get our children frightened before bedtime. That was a very interesting and cool tour, I’d recommend that as part of your stay too. If you are looking for something unusual and a bit of luxury to go with it, then this is your hotel.

My girlfriend says room slightly dusty but I didn’t notice. A coffee machine would have been nice (rather than instant coffee). Highly recommended.

Nice room, however checking took too long as reception was really slow and made mistakes. Bed was too firm, uncomfortable night sleep leading to constant tossing and turning. Decor and room was well presented however price was too high for what it is was, wouldn’t stay again as I don’t believe it is worth the price tag. Standard luxury room with a price tag much higher than other place… but no extras included.

One of the most amazing hotels I’ve ever stayed at. The conversion from the jail is incredible, the room was quite spacious and the bathroom was very luxurious with an enormous bath under the little window that made it all very charming. Breakfast was also really good, and special kudos to the barista who made very good coffee for us - which was not an easy find in that area.

The jail has been beautifully restored. The lighting looks incredible but it makes the room quite dark if you actually want to get ready. My biggest bug bearer is that there was no socket near a mirror with a shelf to get ready or do you hair. The staff were nice but all undertrained if any training at all.

The hotel is a stunning building, that has been restored to the highest level. The rooms have mini-bars with complimentary soft drinks from local producers and there are four EV charging bays that are also free. My only gripe was that we couldn't get the air conditioning to work.

A stunning property. One of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed in. Phenomenal. Unfortunately however the same cannot be said for the dinner and some of the staff. Dinner over priced and poor, when my wife asked for something extra at breakfast the manager laughed in her face. I was also bashed out of the way by a staff member clearly walking around with the hump. A shame as this hotel can be extraordinary. They would do far better with a wholesome menu as I suspect staffing may be a challenge due to location. It is however a really really nice hotel. Just eat dinner elsewhere.

Stayed three nights. First night booked via hotel. Second and third nights cheaper through Expedia…. Hotel would NOT price match as their website states!! Rooms AMAZING… but make sure you ask for a room with stone walls and ceilings to get the full cell vibe… our first room had mainly white painted walls and white ceilings… When I realised I asked to move rooms and eventually it was sorted. Reception staff friendly but need more training in customer service. The housekeeper was more helpful and professional… she was fab and should really be on the front desk or working as dining staff rather than cleaning rooms!!! Was a great experience, real unique and was fun staying in a prison and I would definitely recommend for couples and families alike!!

Unique experience staying in a jail. Room was great and comfortable. Food was good, not great and expensive. Was a fine dining menu but only side was greens and chips, which didn’t really go with the menu. Potato option would have been better. Made to go through champagne bar and felt needed to order drinks before being allowed to go through to the restaurant. I’m guessing in an attempt to try and upsell drinks. Although to do this would need actually offer a menu! At check out tried to put an optional reception and house keeping service charge to bill with no previous mention of this. Felt very awkward when we didn’t want to pay…£200 a night room should cover any service charges!!!

Bar and Restaurant staff helpful and polite. Food (breakfast) was very good. Checkin was below the standard expected, as was the attitude of the duty manager when we made a complaint. We won’t be staying at the hotel again for this reason.

But the service let it down. 45 minute wait for 2 cocktails, over an hour wait for 3 main course with a young child who was too tired to eat by the time dinner arrived. Staff seemed very stressed and overrun even though the bar and restuarant were not even half full. Very disorganised which was a real shame as it definitely took away from the uniqueness of the hotel.

We had a fantastic stay and will definitely return. The hotel is beautifully decorated internally and externally, the service was to a really high standard, and very clean throughout. Excellent amenities and a good location to visit well known spots!

Fantastic museum at the property. The room is amazing and front desk staff awesome. The restaurant staff was wonderful but the breakfast food was not good and the dinner options fairly average for the price. Hotel is all inclusive which is good because Bodmin itself was not a town for American tourists to just go for a walk in.

What a place! Very special place to stay, so nice to stay somewhere far away from the norm. Stunning rooms set in the old cells. Very well appointed with a beautiful bathroom, bathrobe and slippers. Very comfortable bed/pillows and everything you would need for a comfortable stay. The Chapel cocktail bar is awesome with great staff and a cosy atmosphere. The Chapel restaurant food is the best I've tasted with very good service. Nice little gym and a free tour of the old jail thrown in. Well worth a visit, this hotel is very special

Hotel facilities and service absolutely outstanding, balanced between comfy, modern hotel and... Obviously a former jail beautifully. Bar area and restaurant found it difficult to balance this in my opinion, hi end bar but excess to the public and dogs etc made it messy and the food in the restaurant in the evening was a little underwhelming for the money. The service was brilliant from every member of staff encountered.

Hotel fantastic, atmosphere and location brilliant. Restaurant for dinner was unfortunately sub par for the cost. My wife's starter was not great, not hot enough and too pickly tasting. The apple crumble, was not an apple crumble, it was a sultana tart, and I dont really like sultanas! The breakfast however, amazing.

While the hotel facilities and rooms were very good the food was not up to the same standard. Breakfast in particular was poor with cheap sliced bread and orange squash rather than fresh orange juice served. Not acceptable in any hotel never mind one in this price bracket.

One of the most amazing hotels I’ve ever stayed at. The conversion from the jail is incredible, the room was quite spacious and the bathroom was very luxurious with an enormous bath under the little window that made it all very charming. Breakfast was also really good, and special kudos to the barista who made very good coffee for us - which was not an easy find in that area.

Stayed here for 2 nights this weekend just gone, the hotel was very clean, the underfloor heating in the bathroom was so lovely. Had breakfast both mornings and the food was good, very quick service each time. We had food in the chapel on our last night which was lovely, however there isn't a lot of choice of mains we felt, would be nice to see the menu expanded a little, especially if someone was a fussy eater. Staff were really lovely in the hotel, would definitely come back and recommend to others

Lovely place to stay, has been converted beautifully. Comfy bed and Lovely bath! Only downside was we couldn't get the room to cool down, air-con seemed stuck. Would stay again and recommend. Breakfast was delicious 😋

This was amazing how they have converted the old cells into room very nice rooms good facilities and comfy beds choice of pillows breakfast wasn't very good with quality products

Such a unique and fascinating hotel to stay in. From the start you're already curious about what you would encounter during your stay and as soon as you walk in, the "jail" vibe just hits, but with it an air of pure luxury is felt throughout and every detail has been considered. The walls in your room are a mix of modern plaster but where they can, they've left the original exposed brickwork that the prisoners would have seen and felt when they were in there 200+ years ago. I believe most rooms are 3 original cells knocked through, creating a luxurious bedroom space with dressing table and then provides a beautiful en-suite which looks stunning. Underfloor heating makes the room feel welcoming and there is air conditioning in each room which again makes it feel homely rather than the cold cell it once was. The rooms all have a plaque which gives details of a prisoner who was homed in your room (cell). I did expect a little more exciting than a woman who spent 2 months in there for stealing milk, but they have to keep it low-key I suppose. The breakfast was delicious and for a Sunday, it was very busy but they handled it efficiently. I would recommend the restaurant although it is quite pricey. Sadly, no encounters during the night of anything other-worldly, but we absolutely loved our stay there and it has been a huge talking point with friends since we stayed. Would return for sure!
