River view beautiful sunrises, town walkability, well kept, clean, modern industrial esthetic, gym well equipped.

Really beautiful hotel, very new and clean. Beautiful setting on the river. Only negative is the hotel bars are not open weekdays, which was the only time we could afford to stay there!

The hotel and grounds are gorgeous. A lot of thought went into the design and it shows. We loved the open modern feel of the room and view of the Hudson was amazing. We also loved the electric shades allowing an almost blackout experience. The staff was very accommodating. They filled our small cooler with ice daily since they don’t have a public ice maker. Having a gym right next door was perfect and although I was not able to book a massage due to time constraints, I loved the option of the spa being right next door. There was an issue with booking a massage online during my stay when trying to find a time that worked for me, but the staff helped by getting me the phone number and I did get a text back very quickly. A few nit picky things that would improve the experience would be to swap out the plastic shower curtains, have tissues in the room and the option of feather pillows. Also for security consider having the elevators only work if the person has a room card like other major hotels. Side note: Currently the waterfront area is being rejuvenated. There are some restaurant options close by, but not a lot of shops. From what I learned, there is a big push to renovate and get shops open. Once that happens this will be a great little gem. Right now it’s a great place to stay if you are ok with hanging out at the nearby park and driving about a half hour to Hudson or Catskill for shops. (And many of those only open later in the week - Wednesday or Thursday - Saturday).

We had a really nice, relaxing stay at the hotel. Surrounding area is very quiet and underdeveloped, but it was perfect for what we needed l, a little rest and relaxation. Only disappointment was not having a restaurant option in the hotel for dinner Sunday night. There was a place within walking distance, but would have been nice to stay in hotel. We ate brunch in the hotel and it was fantastic.

Newer hotel, decorated nicely. Upstairs restaurant not open on a Wednesday, which would have been convenient and weather was great to sit outside on balcony. "Breakfast availability" was confusing. Staff not informative and appeared more involved in conversations with each other than asking if there was anything I needed.

I would certainly describe this hotel as “boutique”. The standard 2 Queen Bedrooms are spacious with an industrial appeal that fits given the building’s history. We were a bit disappointed that after arriving in the late afternoon, there was no food or bar service avalable-and there was the bar starring back at us from behind the front desk! There is a restaurant on site, so perhaps just closed on our night. I’m suggesting that they provide vending machine options for those of us traveling and not wanting get back in our car to hunt down a dinner spot,

Nice hotel with great views of river. The staff is OK but not very inviting and kinda rude. Walked in after dinner at 9pm on a Saturday night and went to have a drink at and the bartender in a rude tone goes "Nope bars closed with a smirk. I have never stayed at any hotel where bar closes at 9pm on a saturday. I prob wont be back .

The hotel itself was beautiful as was the property around it. However, the hotel restaurant and bar were both closed, we purchased a premium room with a river view and our view was not quite that. The google chrome-cast was not working. And unfortunately there is nothing really around this town. No where to go for dinner or dessert. Normally this wouldn’t have been that much of an issue but we had planned on going to the hotel restaurant for my birthday dinner and then binge watching our current show, neither of which were able to happen, so that was a real let down. Mostly disappointed that we paid a premium rate for a subpar experience, it was quite a splurge for us to book this nice of a room.

Overall, our stay was pleasant. The hotel is still very new. I believe only a few months old. So most, if not all its furnishings are still brand new. The hotel is well kept. Very Clean, including our room. The Staff, especially the Front Office guy who checked us in was very nice. He provided us information for a good place for dinner nearby since none was offered at the hotel that evening. He was also the one who brought us bed linen and extra towel for my daughter who used the pullout couch. Yes, our stay was pleasant but it was far from perfect, As I mentioned, the hotel is brand new. There was a very strong odor of "new construction smell" Not a pleasant one. Smelled of paint and plaster. The walls were thin that we could hear the occupants of the next room. Their conversation and the tv show they were watching. The utility panel on the ceiling above the closet/mini fridge was left open. One of the towels was very worn out and torn. Breakfast was included but we wished they offered more items. Overall our stay wasn't bad. Friendly Staff. Very good service. We plan to come back for future stays..

My room was advertised as having a jetted tub and it did not. It had a tub no jets. The shampoo and body wash were basically empty. The staff was helpful and everything was very clean.

An overall wonderful place to stay. Room was clean, beds were comfortable however there were old stains across the carpet but otherwise the room itself was clean and comfortable. The morning staff in the downstairs restaurant were very friendly and provided a wonderful service and delicious breakfast. Our only major complaint is the walls are thin. You can here next room conversations, babies crying, etc. The overall hotel and view of the river is fery nice as is the quaint town it rests in.

We paid higher amount for the river view room, but not as pictured. Room was not fully cleaned when we arrived but the staff reacted and handled quickly since another room was not available. Great place to stay off the beaten path when traveling thru New York.

If you are looking for a quiet relaxing getaway, this is the spot. On site restaurant is amazing, high quality and delicious. Highly recommend. Rooms with views are amazing. Drive into Hudson NY for a town feel. This hotel is more for the river views and quiet.

Room was hot and air conditioning kept going into sleep mode so I kept waking up hot and then the alarm was set for 4:00 a.m. for some reason and the restaurant was right above me which I heard late at night and early in the morning and it was just no quiet in the room.

The room is big and clean. Love the shower area. I paid extra for river view, was on second floor looking a parking lot, only have peep-a-boo of water. Very disappointed. Check-in front desk guy did not tell us the dinning/restaurant on 5th floor. No sign or poster mentioned that either. The night before check out only randomly found out nice deck on 5th floor as well. The front desk should have tell us more about the amenities. . .

The view over the Hudson was lovely and the huge windows in our room took advantage of the view. The front desk staff were extremely young, very casually dressed and quite inexperienced for a hotel charging such a hefty nightly rate.

Beautiful property right on the River and friendly staff. Cool bar. Comfy bed. Only thing I didn’t like was a loud band playing in the adjacent venue that went in til after 10. Then it was extremely quiet and peaceful. Would definitely stay here again.

The Front desk Manager Josh was extremely rude when we arrived. He stood there talking to us with his hands in his pockets and shrugging his shoulders that he couldn’t help us with basically anything. To be welcomed into a property that was supposed to be this amazing getaway for us this was the worst interaction. His tone and attitude definitely need a major check.

The entire experience of the James Newbury was spot on. The staff could not do enough for you, the room clean and nice and we were provided an upgraded room at no charge. We will be back!

Bad experience with check in and reservation with expedia mostly to blame. The original booking through expedia was cancelled as the credit card was incorrectly sent over. I wasnt notified so the originial reservation for 2 days was cancelled and only 1 day sas available. Staff at hotel was emotionless, not helpful at all, and lacked empathy.

What a gem! This beautiful riverfront property delivers on all fronts - staff, location, cleanliness, waterfront view, fitness center, amenities, parking, event space …wow - we couldn’t have asked for more. The breakfast by the river while watching the dogs play as the sun came up was so pleasant. Wish we could have stayed longer. Truly the folks at this hotel over delivered in every way. Absolutely recommend you enjoy a stay at the James Newbury!

Hotel was very nice and modern but it's clearly geared toward Thur-Sat visitors as there was very little available on a Sunday evening stay. I arrived and due to the one person on duty had been assisting someone else outside of the hotel, I had to wander around

Staff was very unhelpful. When we went into room, realized it was two standard queens instead of the deluxe king room with tub we booked. When we called down to front desk, they rudely said they had no more rooms and that’s the room we get. I explained it wasn’t the room we booked but they didn’t care and any room booked is only a request, despite the fact you pick which room and pay accordingly for type of room upon booking. The rate also was not discounted nor any remedy offered, Staff could have handled the situation much better instead of making it the customer’s problem and simply being rude.

My husband and I stayed here for a couple of nights to do some hiking in the Catskills area. The hotel was very clean and spacious. The receptionist was very welcoming. It was by the river in a residential area with a couple of restaurants and stores along the street, so the area was quiet. Some of the buildings along the street were not occupied.

Great hotel. Clean and quiet. There is no cell service at this hotel. This became a difficulty for us as we needed to deal with a rental car issue.

Beautiful spot right on the river with a park and dining options nearby. There was even a self-serve kayak rental at the nearby boat launch which we used.

Beautiful setting on the banks of the Hudson river. Historic small town, charming houses that date back to an earlier time, and a first class restaurant overlooking the river. Also on the property is a pub with a diverse menu and outdoor seating overlooking the banks of the river. Hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. New hotel and great rooms.

Very nice hotel conveniently located near the Thruway exit and 9W. Easy access to the ski mountains and to Hudson, NY for antiquing.

Amazing ambience, lovely scenery upon the bank of Hudson. Easy drive to Hudson and Bard College. The only thing to mentally prepare for is that life is not as fast paced as NYC. Go with the flow and be nice to the staff because during high season they take care of lots of people without up staffing.

Hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff were very nice and welcoming. The food at the hotel restaurants were good also for breakfast and the rooftop for drinks.

This is a cool place - not much to do but worth staying at if you are in the Albany area and on the road. The food was awesome at the restaurants. Breakfast was great and so was the coffees.
