Grecotel Plaza Beach House

We stayed two nights in a large double room with direct access to the pool. The room was lovely and spacious, and the pool itself is nice. One thing to be aware of: the pool sits almost level with the road right outside. I had assumed from the booking photos that it was a level above. On the plus side, the hotel beach is just across the road, so beach access is very easy, and there's service at the beach too. Rethymno is a short trip away (7 euro by taxi) and a lovely town. The reception staff were very kind throughout. We had lunch once at the restaurant and snacks from the dessert place – the food was okay, but nothing more than that. The gym is the worst I've seen at a hotel: very little equipment, a dreary basement room, and some items broken or falling apart (the ab crunch bench, for instance). If training matters to you on vacation, this is not the place. During our short stay we ran into a few small issues (too many for just two days): - No pool towels on day 1, and on day 2 they only arrived after my second request in the afternoon - The restaurant served a burger that was raw in the middle (frozen patties, I'd suspect) - Our bedroom door had a frosted glass panel that let in a lot of light. I ended up hanging towels over it to darken the room. Staff noticed and offered to fix it, but it never happened - The WiFi was very bad in our room and in the gym. While I could catch a signal, I was almost unable to load even simple things.

We booked a room at the last minute. There will a little mix up upon arrival but the hotel upgraded us and bought us dinner to compensate us. Honestly, there was no need. The hotel was fabulous and the staff could not have been friendlier. The beach area was perfect and exactly what we wanted during our time in Greece. Rethymno is a lovely town and not nearly as busy as Chania, which made a huge difference. We would definitely go back to this hotel.

Subject: Request for Compensation – Stay at Grecotel Plaza Beach House Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing regarding our recent stay at the Grecotel Plaza Beach House in Rethymnon, from 6-11 august, during which we booked a “Petit Loft Maisonette” for 5 nights. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short of the standards expected from an establishment of your reputation. Below is a summary of the main issues we encountered: • First room: extremely noisy, located on a very busy street. It was impossible to sleep before 2 a.m., and we were woken up at 8:30 a.m. by honking buses — partly due to a trash bin left in the road by hotel staff. • Room change request: I was initially told that no other rooms were available. However, after insisting, an alternative was suddenly found — proving that this claim was false. • Second room: in unacceptable condition: • View of an abandoned building and a parking lot • Suspicious stains resembling vomit on and in front of the door. Only the floor was cleaned after I requested it; the door remained dirty. • Severely damaged mattress, with visible mold and burn marks (photos available). This raises serious concerns about whether there had been a recent attempt to treat a bedbug infestation. • Broken patio door in the children’s room, which did not lock and opened directly onto the parking lot — a significant safety risk. • Meeting with the manager: I was told again that there were absolutely no other rooms available for 2 more nights.
