The Lodge at Hocking College

In the country just outside Nelsonville. Excellent outside gardens to see and sit and enjoy. Very relaxing. 2 story. Never saw an elevator for second floor. Told us to use the stairs.

Very well stocked bar for a small place but only open a few nights, fire alarm was going off due to the waffle maker in the lobby but everything within the lodge's control was very well done, better than most hotels.

It is a nice hotel and the staff are friendly there. The only problem I had was that there wasn’t an elevator in the building. Grant it there are only two floors. But when you have bad knees and a handicap mom it’s hard getting up and down the steps. Otherwise it’s a nice place. There is a bike/ walking path off to the side.

The bar was closed the entire stay. The spa was closed the entire stay It was the only 2 things to even consider staying there!!! The room was nice and it was a nice area and patio to hang out.

Housekeeping did not appear to be working. Bar advertised but only open 2 days/ week per staff. Not open Friday night. Terrible. No ice machine. No elevator. Horrible mattress. Concave. Plenty of parking.

We enjoyed our visit to the area. The hotel was great, very clean and neat. We had our dinner outside on the back patio and it was lovely. Checking in and out was quick and the hotel seemed well staffed.

Very pleasant staff. Nice on site bar, but only open Th, Fr, Sat. Nice modern, clean rooms; rather spartan, but what do you expect for the very reasonable cost!

The loft room was beautiful! The outside area was nice until dark. There were no lights on the patio area so you couldn't really see. They had fire tables, but the propane was out, so they didn't work. It didn't effect us to much. Would definitley stay there again.

The hotel felt like a ghost down. Had an bar in the lobby that wasnt open, and had an beautiful patio( with fire pits) that had lights off at night. Felt like these things would've added a positive vibe to the experience. Hotel breakfast felt very limited on options. Bathroom barn door doesnt close all the way( had a inch gape between wall and door ). Besides these things the sat was On the bright side. Beds are comforble. Shower had good water pressure, large screen t.v. with cable. Fridge and microwave on room

Bike path near lodge is very convenient if looking to bike or walk. Super clean! Can’t beat the price!

Amenities are nice rooms nice very minimalistic. Hallways definitely need a good vacuum.

Really liked the concept of this being a college associated hotel. Views were very nice from the room and the room furniture was beautiful. Great place to stay less than 30 min from Hocking Hills State Park. Cleanliness: the hotel itself was fine. The room was not. It “appeared” clean at quick glance. But the brown plank flooring was visibly filthy and clearly hadn’t seen a mop in who knows when. There was a pile of hair in the corner of the bathroom when we arrived. The shower curtain had black mold all over the bottom. Coffee maker didn’t work. There’s no hair dryer in the room. Breakfast consisted of the typical continental fair: dry cereal and low-fat milk, muffins, two types of granola bars, waffle maker. Bar wasn’t open so can’t speak to that. Overall loved the place but the rooms need some care. Installing brown flooring isn’t an excuse to never clean them.

The 1st room we got we did a bed bug check and found shells and eggs under the bed. We went and told the people at the front desk and they were really quick to get us a new room and they let us show them where they were at. We got to the new room and checked it again and the new room was completely bed bug free. We ended up staying for the 3 nights we booked. They also gave us a huge discount for the inconvenience.

Probably the cleanest hotel I've stayed in.

The Lodge is located right on the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway, which was the reason we were in the area. The facility is very nice. The staff, made up of students, were efficient, but not very outgoing. Our room had a dirty washcloth still hanging on the shower, and a shirt that was left from the previous occupant (which we took to the front desk). We didn't have hand towels until our second night. Sunday morning we woke to a fire alarm, which was then turned off in the guest room area, however it continued to buzz for hours - the firemen were unable to disengage it in the lobby. The breakfast that morning was basically non-existent - there was coffee and watered down waffle mix and granola bars that all had nuts in them. Nothing else. No cereal, milk or yogurt that had been available on Saturday. They needed 3 outlets (microwave, waffle maker, cooler) but only had 2, so the microwave wasn't available. Breakfast is from 6:30am-11, which is checkout, so that was nice. They have a bar on the weekends, however dirty wine glasses and beer cans were still on the tables Saturday morning during breakfast. That is unacceptable because it is in the same room as the check-in desk.

Staff was amazing. Rooms were spotlessly clean! Outdoor area could use some help, has potential to be beautiful.

I would say the theme of The Lodge is “minimalist rustic chic”. The the person who checked me in and checked me out at the front desk were extremely pleasant and helpful. There is not an elevator, so if you have mobility issues like me, make sure to request a first floor room. (My fault for not checking.)The room was neat and tidy. I did notice that the shelf in the shower that held the shampoo, conditioner, and body wash was not cleaned. There were obvious soap rings from previous bottles. This gave me some pause, but the rest of the shower and bathroom seemed spic and span so I just chalked it up to a housekeeping oversight. The bed was absolutely stunning, and from what I understand, handmade by students at the college. The mattress was a bit too soft my taste, but that is personal preference. The second floor hallway where my room was had a funny odor. It smelled like lingering curry cooking odor, which I found very odd. I thought maybe someone had heated some takeout in their microwave, but the smell was just as strong in the morning. I think the hallway carpets may need a good cleaning. The stairwell leading from the outside to the second floor was filthy. The steps and landing are carpeted and they haven’t seen a vacuum in quite some time. Three of the 5 brackets holding the handrail to the wall were pulled out of the wall, creating a safety hazard. Obviously, hotel staff had not visited that stairwell in a long time. Hence the 4 stars. Free Breakfast was lame as well

Overall a very disappointing experience, but one star added for nice staff. You would expect at the very least to get a good night's sleep at a hotel, but there are several problems here: 1. You can hear the heavy metal doors slamming and powerful toilets flushing at all hours of the night from 6 rooms away in every direction. 2. There are no curtains, only blinds that even when closed do absolutely nothing to keep the 1000 watts of light from the parking lot out. It's the worst I've ever experienced at any hotel. 3. The smoke detectors in your room flash a bright green strobe every 15 seconds. 4. The fridge in your room has a loud mechanical groan that never stops. You have to unplug it at night to stop it. I'm a heavy sleeper, and I got jarred awake by the doors in this place, if you want a good night's sleep, this isn't the place. Beyond that, a number of other concerns and unusual disappointments: -finding spiders on the bed immediately upon entering the room -poor lighting in the rooms, only two small lamps, no ceiling light -no table to eat food in your room, you either have to eat in bed (gross) or in the lobby -totally unsecured wifi - a bored 12 year old could hack any device connected to it -no sink in the bathroom, it's in your room.. so you can only wonder what germs are on the bathroom door handles.. -you'll need an extension cord for your firestick if you want to watch Netflix or Hulu due to the outlet and TV setup -its 30 minutes away from everything

The property is on a college campus. It was a very nice room for the price. The only complaint was that the bed did not seem to have any support in the middle, which was a bit unconformable because it sagged a lot.

Our stay with the family was such a treat! The lofted room design was great with 2 bathrooms and 2 TVs. Staff were friendly and available to help. And a real perk was the gorgeous patio area that the back door of the room opens onto, with great seating, fire pits, and a view over the vineyards. The decor and bedding is much more classy and homey than other locations.

The room needed much better lighting. It was very difficult to read except right in bed next to those lamps. Also, towel bars in the bathroom would allow guests to hang up their wet towels and not need clean towels every day.

Bed was comfortable but I felt like I rolled toward the center making it a bit difficult to get out of. The only chair in the room was uncomfortable. They need to put another chair or seating in the rooms. Bathroom was very clean and whole room was clean. Looked a little like it needed some repair to the walls and bsseboards. Internet access was okay. The continental breakfast could use a few more options like toast, bagels, fruit. The place was very quiet. I think they should tell people there is no elevator.

This is really a nice facility. New, clean, comfortable, and easily accessible to Nelsonville and also (with an 18 min. drive) from Athens. The rooms are a little dark (they could use some extra lamps), but that's honestly our only issue. The hotel is a great value and we'll stay there again.

The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful. If it were summer, we’d definitely want to spend time enjoying the outside. The room had lots of character and reflected the area. There wasn’t much privacy for the bathroom because of a large gap around the door and a strobe light feature on the lamp but was a really comfortable room otherwise.

The room was beautiful, clean and updated. The bathroom was very clean as well. There were not many restaurant choices for us as the town had many restaurants that were closed Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. We did find a few places that were open. This property offers a clean and comfortable stay at a great price. If you are looking for a " hotel with amenities", this is not the place to stay.

The breakfast was disappointing. Staff was very friendly, parking was ok.room was clean,however the toilet was broken,tv had very limited reception and worse was the bed. It rolled towards the center from both sides,seemed broken down. I would stay again, but feel these issues need addressed.

Wonderful hotel and staff! Very clean and very friendly! Two things I didn't like were the wierd slidinf barn doors on bathrooms (they never fully close, big gap) and the smoke detector had a bright blinking light (we put a sock over the light). Other than those two things, a great place to stay!

The best experience My wife and I have ever had at a hotel. The manager Jessica was the best. Super helpful with everything. Great person to talk with. She ended up being our bartender at the hotel bar and it was an awesome experience. We went for my birthday and they even had a birthday card taped to our hotel door. It was fantastic. Can’t say enough about our whole experience. I would never stay anywhere else. The only thing is that all hocking hills hikes are about 20 minutes away from the hotel but very quiet area made for an enjoyable stay.

Front desk workers were not attentive enough. They ran out of breakfast items and said they cannot restock.

Property and room it's self was nice. Staff was kind, but easily flustered. Several hiccups and room mess ups with check in. The first room we were given has not been cleaned, we were booked for two nights, but on the second afternoon we came back to our room to find our key card didn't work. All was fixed promptly but should not have happened in the first place. Staff also not very knowledgeable of surrounding areas.

It was connected to a college. Not sure if this was good or bad. The students working the facility have not been trained. Very unprofessional, not sure motel 6 would hire these individuals. The front desk clerk at checkin appeared to have slept 🛌 n his clothes. When asking questions about facility he did not know anything. We found this true of all employees. If these individuals are being trained to operate a like facility, then the instructors failed. Other than a very strong odor inside the facility, it was clean. The outside was in need of maintenance. The patio area had several OSHA violations and just needed a good cleaning. The breakfast bar was very limited but what was there needed help. Two coffee pots did not indicated which was regular or decaf. When desk clerk was asked he did not know and made no effort to find out. The rooms at best should have one cabinet or vanity to store clothes. What was good about facility was the ladies who cleaned the 2nd floor on both days were very helpful and what they did not know they attempted to find out. I would move them to front desk. The location was great for us. To sum this up, the facility could be great with the right management team in charge.

We wanted to get away for a few days and booked The Lodge at Hocking College. The staff is great, and everyone is so pleasant. Our room was so quiet and relaxing. The front desk clerk ,he gave us great suggestions where to eat; and each place he suggested were phenomenal! We had a great stay.

We waited for 30 minutes at the front desk to check in, and finally someone showed up with no shoes on. On the 2nd night, our room key cards stopped working, and when we went to the front desk to mitigate our problem, the attendant just asked us for our room number and gave us new cards without even asking our name, which seems awfully unsafe. Also, the bed was awful and sunk down in the middle so we ended up gravitating down to the center. Clean, but definitely not comfortable. Bathroom “door” didn’t shut all the way or latch for any privacy either.

Our trip was amazing, the staff was wonderful. The room was very clean. And smelled amazing. Girl working the Bar was so nice and friendly. We cant wait to come back .

It was very clean and quiet. The beds were comfy. We stayed during our sons orientation at OU. It's about 20 minutes away.

It was alright. Doors are loud. Room was nice. Breakfast nice to have, but pretty limited. Farther from park than I thought—about 25 minutes. The town does not offer much & is pretty depressed

Nice comfortable rooms. Look newly renovated. Everything is clean and spacious. Nelsonville downtown is 5 minutes away with good dining options. Breakfast was adequate. Rates are very affordable. The surrounding area is rural with lots greenery and farms. Nice place to stay if you are visiting Hocking Hills.

The location is remote which is good if you want a quiet nights sleep away from the traffic. Very clean room and comfortable bed. I would stay again if in the area

If your riding the Windy 9 or hiking the Wayne National Forest, stay here instead Athens. Way more conveniently located to the stuff you came to do and way more quaint and quiet. Nellsonville is a cool small town. Wish the place had a gym but otherwise perfect

Great location if you are in the Athens OH area. Both our kids graduated from Ohio U wish we would have discovered this sooner!!!!

Picked this hotel due to its proximity to Hocking Hills and the cute pictures on the website. Other than it’s cleanliness, nothing else positive to say. Booked a standard room with 1 queen bed but got a room with two double beds. The bar they advertise…closed. Spa…closed. “Breakfast included” - a few granola bars and pre-packaged muffins. After making them aware that the coffee was empty and waiting 20min for more to be brewed, we were finally given coffee that had more coffee grinds than liquid. For $177/night, we expected more.

We have stayed here before and really like it. This time was no different. The service was great and the room was clean and spacious. We appreciate the mini fridge since we have been to a few hotels that did not have them recently. The free “breakfast” was disappointing though. They only had waffles and granola bars. They didn’t even have coffee.

I stayed here as a part of a solo hiking trip to Hocking Hills, and I could not have been more impressed. The price was exceptional (two nights for less than the price of one elsewhere). And to be clear, this isn't a high-end place with a ton of frills. But there is more than enough to make it a tremendous value. My only interaction with staff was professional and quick. The public areas are well apportioned...reasonably clean with plenty of light. I even went to the patio area my first morning and the views were great. The room was incredibly clean. Spotless. The bathroom and shower were the same. Even the corners and inside the microwave and fridge. I've read some complaints about the bed being uncomfortable. Mine was absolutely fine...a bit on the soft side, but nothing at all uncomfortable. Breakfast was lean...a waffle maker but no other hot items. But what they had (prepackaged muffins, granola bars, cereal) was fine. The coffee was also very good. This is a place which is a hidden gem and, if I'm ever in the area again, whether solo, or with family, I will be staying here. Kudos to the staff and students of Hocking College for running such a good institution.
