Carrington House Hotel

Overall I wouldn’t stay again, our mattress was flat, we had a family room of 4 and we were expected to have one little fan between us which was emitting more dust and hot air then cold air. The room itself was clean at first glance but deeper it was dirty and had gum and sticky stuff stuck to the furniture. The bathroom was okay, the shower itself worked fine but the toilet and sink was unhygienic and the tap water was too hot to use. The lift didn’t work during the whole of our stay and we were put on the second floor. To get to the second floor you had to go through many different sections and the carpet had been removed on the stairs to the second floor. The pool was way smaller then in the picture and was dangerous. A metal pipe from the railing had fallen off and was just sitting in the pool for someone to trip on the water was dirty and there was mould in the bathroom and the swimming pool. There weren’t any facilities and it was very old. Lastly the place was blatantly racist, some of the people staying and staff would avoid us and keep conversation short. I would not recommend!!

Manageress and receptioinists really excellent.Lack of a lift (broken for a long time) and maze like setup of corridors and rooms quite confusing and got lost several times. Room reputedly on third floor was actually fifth floor when walking up stairs. Not easy when carrying luggage. Last two floors via fire escape stairs, no carpets and low lights. But all amenitiies provided in room.

The staff on site were amazing and very helpful. Unfortunately a couple of times during our stay the electricity went out, we were told this was caused by works on road. Also the whole stay the swimming pool was not open, this was our main reason for picking this location. So this was annoying and basically ruined the trip as the hotel goes.

Would not recommend to stay here. Very very out dated. Broken plug sockets tv remote didn’t work no Chanel’s on tv. No plug sockets near bed. Could hear people talking in the room next door. Very very bland for £260 it was like staying in a hostel. Pool was cloudy and looked very dirty. Parking isn’t great. Just overall not great at all. Was clean. However shower area really needed to be descaled.

Room was ok but bathroom very tired and room generally dusty. Foyer and surrounding areas very tired and in need of an update and vacuum! Pool was ok but needs to be warmer!

Overall a Pleasant stay. Location 15 minutes walk to the beach. Car park Free but limited spaces. The room decor outdated. It’s definitely brings back 80’s vibes. Furniture, tv and bathrooms all need to be updated. Internet WiFi slow. If you are on level 2 or 3 good luck to you finding your room. Lift not working during stay of 2 nights. Staff were friendly.

We stayed in a family room which was on the third floor. The both lifts were out of order and had been for sometime apparently. This made it a bit tricky with 2 children's stuff for 2 days and having to carry it up 2 flights of stairs. The hotel itself is looking tired in places. The staff were lovely and very accommodating. The breakfast was good and varied. The worst bit is there is no air conditioning. The room was stifling. We were supplied with one fan which did little to help on the hottest weekend of the year so far. We used the pool which was refreshing and again a little tired especially in the changing rooms especially. The bar was reasonably priced as was the dinner price (which we didn't have). It was obviously a popular place for groups. You can walk the 30 minutes to the seafront and parking is free unlike the town which is extortionate. It's in need of an upgrade and air con for us to use again.

Clean room, no bathroom storage, pool was basic but lovely to get a swim in and at no charge. The hotel has old decor but doesn’t affect your stay, friendly staff and nice breakfast we would stay again

I have to say this has been one of the worst stays at a hotel i have experienced. Upon entering the room it was clear it was in need of some tlc. The mattress was lumpy and could feel the springs. There was no aircon or a fan in my room in the middle of summer. I did manage to sorce a fan from reception but apparently i was lucky as they are usually all given out. The walls are like paper. I couod hear conversations of people in the room next to me and if they had their TV on this was also heard. The Wifi is weak and doesnt maintain a stable connection. I stayed for 4 days as i was working in the area and not once was housekeeping out to clean my room or replenish towels/toilet roll. The only positives i could bring from it was the food was ok from the bar and receptionists were friendly. I was going to speak to them about hiw uncomfortable the bed was but my colleague said she had the same issue so nothing would have been able to change in that regard. Overall im quite a positive person and have the attitude of 'it is what it is' However this experience was something i couldnt ignore.

Stayed here as we were working at a local show. You pay for what you get but I felt like I’d been transported to 1975. This hotel has not been touched since the 70s. The decor is questionable. Parking is awful and all double yellows on the street. The check in was quick and smooth which is the only good thing about it. Pipes running under the floors which means the room is boiling. Room is not cleaned to the best standards. Mould in bathroom. Beds hard and uncomfortable. Holes all over the carpets, gouges in doors and woodwork. The entire hotel and corridors all stink of cigarettes. You had the option of choosing a smoking room when we booked, who still has smoking rooms? Even Vegas have stopped it in most places. Gaffer tape on stairs in reception holding them together. Lift looks like the original lift and could fall apart at any time. Pros - it was cheap. We weren’t there for long enough to worry too much about it. Beds were clean. Staff friendly. If you want a cheap bed for the night it’s fine but this isn’t somewhere I’d ever stay again. Typical old Britannia hotel.

There was cobwebs in the room and the spare pillow that was in the cupboard had a blood stain on it was a bit noisy with the seagulls in the morning not that this is the hotels problem..

The room did not get cleaned once during a 3 night stay. Wasn’t given any new towels had to ask for them.

Unfortunately our original room was absolutely disgustingly filthy, tide mark round bath, dirty toilet, carpets not vacuumed. Management moved us to new room which was comfortable and clean. This hotel is so old dirty and tired. Carpets do not look like they’ve been hoovered for months.

The room we booked was filthy lot as seen in these pictures. An Asian receptionist told us there is no other room to change to and the next morning when I payed more more , they quickly gave us another room that’s better. The Receptionist was rude and talking to loud in front of everyone on matters that needs addressed privately. Blood stains in bed, rooms stinks with no ventilation or air condition and loads of other issues

The room had no windows! That should be made clear in description or would have never booked it. The room was also airless. We also had trouble finding the room. Number 400 and tue ground floor. Got lost looking for room and ended up in the fire exit area on ground floor. And, you could not open at gate to get round to the reception. Some guest on top floor thought it was ok to throw things at us. Seeing we were trapped, thinking it was funny. Had to make a call to the police for assistance, as no one answered the phone and we were trapped.

Big, clean, quiet room. Convenient location with plenty of free parking.

The hotel itself is alright, nothing in particular stands out to make it amazing. The beds are super comfy and make for a great sleep there is very limited parking and we ended up having to park on the main street due to there being no space. We had a very short stay of 1 night where we spent limited time at the hotel so it was right for us- it is rougly 30 minute walk from Bournemouth beach/ the triangle. The reception is open 24 hours a day so if youre coming back late at night you still have access which is nice!

Overall I’d say the hotel is average and fine for what you pay. Starting with the rooms: they are dated and have seen better days. They are hot with no air conditioning which means you have to have the window open. If you however have a ground floor room like I did next to the parking area - the choice is to shut the window to keep out the noise and be too hot ot to keep the window open and deal with the noise. The rooms are poorly sound proofed so there was a lot of noise from the corridors too. I booked a single room but they use small single beds which is annoying as there is space for a standard single even in the twin rooms. Staff were polite enough - no issues there. Though the check in policy of requiring photo ID was not communicated by Expedia and could have caused problems had I not have had any. It seems excessive to have to provide photo ID to stay at a hotel! Food - £16 for an evening meal - three courses self service from a buffet. Quality wasn’t great but not terrible - a bit over priced for what was on offer. £9 for breakfast was okay - again not the best quality but filled a hole. Overall it was okay as an establishment but my sleep quality was poor due to noise. Evening meals either need more variety or to be cheaper and modernisation needed throughout but very good value and polite enough staff.

Rooms were boiling hot. Beds very hard same with the pillows. Hotel was very run down. And the function that was going on carried on until 12:45am very noisy.

Was in formed how to get to the room via lift or stairs however neglected to inform me where the lift or stairs where. The room its self was dated, delaminating furniture, loose wall sockets. Door to room had large gaps, strips and seals missing, damage to the hard wood edge and the self-closer did not operate to full extent thus leaving the door on the latch and not closing to completion. The carpet in the corridors was loose and threadbare at points and the corridor fire doors were ill fitting and also had strips and seals missing.

As other reviews said, hotel is dated. Carpeted everywhere, stuffy, straight out of the 70's. It felt like a retirement home rather than a hotel. Room was unbearably hot at night, neither my husband nor I could really get to sleep. We were provided with one fan which was vastly inadequate to cool a family size room. Combined with the inability to open the window more than a crack nor plug the fan closer to the window to draw in cold air, this was by far the worst stay ever. Please don't book this hotel for your own sanity, no matter how cheap you are feeling.

Do not stay here. It’s that simple. I’ve stayed at many hotels in many countries on many continents and this is the worst by a mile. Staff couldn’t be less helpful and friendly if they tried and the rooms clearly haven’t been touched for 30 years. I wouldn’t go back if it was free.

We had a lovely stay, the receptionist were very friendly.

The moment we walked in we struggled with our luggage. Their customer service was appalling, Their was no have a nice day. Enjoy your stay or anything, The lift was broken, the vending machines were broken. There was no sign to say do not disturb. There was no sockets by the bed. There air in the the room was really bad’. Me and my son are are both Asthmatic’. they did not help us with this. i will NOT be staying in this hotel again.

Beautiful pet friendly hotel with good onsite restaurant and entertainment. Staff are amazing.

Reception staff has no clue about customer service. Cold and full of attitude. They need to be trained how to deal with customers. I wish i could give them -5 stars.

Really warm and welcoming staff who were nicely spoken and corporate in appearance. Public areas clean as a pin. Stairwells looking tired and threadbare. Outside was unfortunately looking very tatty. However, we used a twin room which was spotless (if well used) and the stay was an absolute bargain at just £37. I mean, what can one really expect? No tegrets from me and Id definitely use it again.

We’ve stayed here numerous times, it’s our go to place to stay in Bournemouth. Value for money. The rooms are basic but clean and with free parking. It’s a leisurely 20 minute stroll to the main shopping centre/beach/gardens. We finally got to use the pool on this visit! Was lovely to check out but still use the pool before we actually left. Thank you!

Nice place for an amazing price. Definitely caters to the older crowd, but it’s quiet and the street it’s on is lovely. Close to the train station, too. Would absolutely recommend.

Typical Brittania Hotel. A bit run down but perfectly good for a solo traveller passing through like myself. Easy parking and about 15b mins walk to Town

Well placed for the beach, the bar is cute, the inside of the building is quite convoluted, but it has a lift and is clean. The staff absolutely shine, they were lovely to us. Warning though, breakfast is very early and non-refundable if bought online in advance.

Hotel was cheap & cheerful. Decor was a bit dated, but our room was clean & spacious & the staff were all lovely. The hotel was a in a nice quiet location, but was only a short walk from town, which was ideal.

Room was nice, but window open to the top of the property roof..not to much view. Food was ok, would be better more option. Easy to access to the beach on a nice forest way. Anyway we were feeling good. Price is good.

Situated close to the beach around 15 mins walk and peace and quiet. Parking was a bit of a problem as to many cars and not enough space. Overall enjoyable and I’d definitely revisit again

Good location. Property is a bit aged, but clean. Full breakfast was excellent.

For what we paid we got value for money. The property is run down and scruffy. Short on staff who do their best. Breakfast was good value. Evening meal not so good.

The hotel was reasonably priced and adequate for our stay. It was clean and comfortable but does need some updating and refurbishing. Breakfast and evening meals are extra and self service so You could eat as much as you needed and there was a fair selection.

The hotel is tired with worn out carpets in the bedroom and common areas. This is a shame because the bed was clean and comfortable, likewise the bathroom was clean and functional. Breakfast was plentiful and tasty. I guess you get what you pay for as it is cheap.
