Royal Station Hotel- Part of the Cairn Collection

Booked through hotel.con and chose swimming pool option . Only to be told on arrival the leisure centre was closed for the future .

Well advertising a free pool leisure club and there was a spillage on my first day so didn’t get to try the “free” leisure facilities out. As you can see - I award not compensated even though I could have gone to a few hotels in the same price bracket. I will not go back!!

Hotel right next to station. Hotel a bit dated. Bar was expensive. The gym, pool, sauna and steam room were excellent. I would stay here again.

The superior room was huge Obviously the building is,175 years old so is a little tired but beautiful. It is clean and the staff are so pleasant and,welcoming. The breakfast was amazing, hot and freshly cooked. The only negative i would say is the leisure centre which could do with updating in the changng rooms. Also a little dangerous having to walk up and down wet stairs between pool and changimg rooms. Would definitely stay here again.

The reason I have given one star is not the rooms or the stuff rooms are nice stuff are very friendly and helpful but the hotel is pricing itself out not for the cost of the room but now they charge extra to use the facilities and parking has jumped from 15 pound to 22 pound and night

Booked in the morning of arrival expecting all the amenities and nothing to say they weren’t available ,was trying to phone the hotel for an hour before arrival with no answer to enquire about parking , receptionist was surly and uninterested , asked about the pleasure facilities the reason for choosing that hotel , we arrived at 4pm and were told it closed at 5pm but you can’t get in after 4:30 so would have no time to use it , we called the pleasure club from the room and he said 5:30 but it was closed as they’d had a power cut ! Not mentioned online or at reception The room was tired and dirty around the furniture , there was stains on the quilt , the bed was comfortable but there was a lot of music noise coming from the main road , bar staff was lovely really friendly , and so where the security staff really are a credit to the hotel very polite and chatty , I’m very disappointed that this was supposed to be a relaxing night between Christmas and newyear and just ended up disappointing and irritating I’d like a refund as we didn’t get the service we paid for and unapologetic reception staff left a lot to be desired

Generally the hotel is quite nice they seem to spend a lot of money upgrading the rooms over the last few years the issue is the spa pool jacuzzi and steam room are awful I'd be gutted if I spent money as a spa break

The location was great for us as we arrived by train and was easy to get around. Room was good, a little dated (but typical for a historic hotel) hadn't been hoovered on arrival or in the 3 days we were there. Reasonable price for room only but breakfast was easily done with fridge supplied in the room, or easy to pop out somewhere close for dining. I didnt mind the £5 payment to use the gym, pool, sauna and really enjoyed the plunge pool. Resturant was good and reasonably priced and staff were very really good throughout . I would stay again

Overall a good visit with friendly staff. You need to pay extra for leisure facilities and the the pool is only open 9-5pm on weekends. With breakfast 8-10am the timings dont really work for a pre breakfast swim when youre just staying a night. Wish i had known before spending the £5.

Great location near the station but rooms at the front of the hotel are a bit noisy from the road. Big room, beds comfortable abd room clean. The health club is very tired and desperately needs refurb but pool nice and staff friendly.

The rooms are spacious but room service is appalling and non existent. No towels in room at check in. No water in rooms. No room cleaning unless asked for at Least 3-4 times. Even then it was half done and superficial with no emptying of bins etc I’ll not recommend this hotel

Room not clean. Marks / stains on duvet , bed base marked and stained/every time you sat on the bed it made a cracking sound as though it was going to break. Black marks on tiles in bathroom. Ended up not staying just went back home.

We stayed in this exact room February 2024. On that trip the curtains and tops pf the walls/picture rails were thick with dust and they are still exactly the same. There are cracked bathroom tiles, damaged bath panels and taps that need tightening. This was the same in February 2024. Size of the room is decent but could do with shelves or drawers for clothing. Housekeeping staff were pleasant and kept us topped up. I appreciate its an old room but it does feel grotty. We only stay for the use of the pool.

The room was spotless and the staff were courteous

I stayed here ten years ago and wow, what a horrible decline. No hot running water, defensive staff and absolutely rubbish breakfast. I understand it’s an old building, but the room was filthy, cold and smelled disgusting. Do not stay here, plenty other nicer and cheaper stays in Newcastle.

Our room had blistering paint on the ceiling, black mold throughout the bathroom, a non-functioning air conditioner and refrigerator. Overall, the staff was friendly, and I’m sure that there are nice rooms, but be warned that if you are staying anywhere between rooms 218 and 245, it will not be up to par. The “spa” area is a joke at best. The sauna was cold, the jacuzzi was out of order, and the facilities are filthy. I would not recommend staying at the Royal Station Hotel. Visit the restauraunt however! Our servers Liz and Leon were lovely.

Decor of the main areas very in keeping with the age of the building. Lovely period features etc in the common area and staircases. I was in a small double room which was fine. My window looked into a 4 sided interal area with the only daylight coming from about 3 storeys above. The area right outside my window could do with regular cleaning as it was covered in bird droppings. My window didn’t lock but unless someone had a ladder from the roof into the internal area there wasn’t any risk but the principle remains. My room wasn’t secure. Cleanliness was acceptable, in general. Stains here and there on chairs etc and small patch of carpet was bald. Some attention to detail cleaning in the bathroom needed as build up around base of shower screen, mugs had tea stains too. Despite the issues the room was very lovable and I didn’t report any issues as I was on a business trip and spent very little time actually in the room.

Less the one minute from the station and 5 from my destination, but I didn't hear the trains or the drunk football fans. The breakfast was very nice. The bathroom smelled, the shower was luke warm, the toilet seat did not stay up, the wardrobe was not tall enough for my clothes (because of the safe) and there was litter left by a previous occupant on the floor.

Hotel was clean and warm, if a bit dated, very convenient for Central Station and a 10 minute walk to Utilita Arena. Unfortunately we had to completely remake the bed as the bottom sheet was six inches short of the top of the bed and the duvet was hanging out of the cover by over a foot. The hand wash in the bathroom was empty, but there was some in the shower area.

Stayed just one night ,fantastic old hotel that has loads of charm ,rooms so spacious and well equipped.lovely bar ,would definitely stay here again .

A well located historical hotel. Unfortunately rooms were too hot and the mattress and pillows too firm. With a heavy duvet and no top sheet I had to use an airplane blanket to cover myself while sleeping without overheating. A fan was provided but the bedding was still to warm for the hot room.

Room size for two people on a Christmas shopping trip room very cramped and not enough room for cases etc

The hotel is in a very convenient location for Newcastle city Centre. Building is very grand and beautiful. All the staff that we encountered were polite and did a great job. The room was quite small. The furniture was very old and the general feeling was that the room was very tired and could do with some TLC. Everywhere however was clean and the bed was relatively comfy. The bathroom was small and we didn’t realise until trying to shower the morning after our one nights stay that there was no shower gel. Breakfast was quite good. A few pastries, a small selection of cereals some fruit and lots of cooked items to choose from. Overall for what we paid it was ok and I would think about staying again if I’m ever in the area.

Ideal location next to station and city centre. Impressive lobby area and sweeping staircase give off a very grand feel, however not matched by our accommodation. Internal room so no windows other than one with frosted glass onto corridor. Meant it was quite gloomy. Room was tired and in need of an update. Shower not particularly powerful. Bed was comfortable though.

Ok hotel, great location. Unfortunately our room had no curtains! So was awake at 0630 after a late night. Needs back out curtains.

This is a lovely hotel right at the station in the city centre. It felt very safe and i appreciated the chain on the bedroom door for extra peace of mind as a solo traveller. The staff were friendly and professional. My room on the 4 floor was super clean, if a little tired looking. I liked the cosiness of the sloping roof, and it was a good size. I liked that there were soft pillows (firm pillows also if thats your preference) The breakfast was exactly as ibwould have expected and was good enough with a good choice. I would have preferred eggs cooked to order, but I did like the little mini danish pastries on offer. The hotel is in the city centre, with the train station on one side and a number of bars on the other, so its not going to be completely quiet, but it wasnt too bad and I slept well.

Slow check in, great location decent breakfast but pricey.

The property is clean tidy and value for money and would have been given 5 star rating however. Due to an error at the hotel I was charged twice for early checkin and parking on two seperate cards this was sorted promptly so wasn't a huge issue. But since we got home we have been charged for the room again which is now pending and made the money unavailable in my bank balance. When I called I was told it may take 5 days to sort out due again to some sort of error. In this time I am unable to use my own money which is ridiculous and wrong. No compensation offered in anyway shape or form and they weren't very sympathetic of the situation dispute it being the second time and their fault. Very disappointed in the service provided and wouldn't recommend for this reason.

I wanted to stay a extra day and zoe the reception supervisor was very helpful in helping me to achieve this with no problems i would highly recommend this hotel right next door to the train station and a few minutes to city center and also i found all staff to be helpful and friendly cant wait to visit again hopefully in july

I gave this a good only because of the reception staff especially Anna and Ben who were particularly kind and helpful. The hotel was a great location and had a gym which we used . But our room was dirty and not cleaned even when we put out the please do our room sign on our door. We only got refreshments coffee and tea etc on our first day and we were staying three nights . Our room was not cleaned and the beds were not made and we had to ask reception for toilet roll to be replenished , new towels and coffee and tea. Ur buns were spilling over in our room as they weren’t changed . The reception has to give us the things we needed and they did this and apologised politely to us and said they would report this about the house keeping problems . The reception staff made our stay lovely and helped us know where to go . Anna and Ben were superb at reception. We met Anna on the first day when we checked in . She was so friendly and helpful . I would come again gif this reason and would hope the house keeping staff would improve by the next time we come . We would be out all day hoping that our room had been cleaned when we returned but it was not everytime and they had gone by the time we were able to inform reception. Reception staff are your stars Royal Station hotel . Please reward them especially Anna and Ben . Thank you . We loved Newcastle

Great location, easy access to lots of attractions in Newcastle city centre. Hotel parking is limited, although the train station carpark is behind the hotel, but the hotel staff no nothing about the charges.

Extremely convenient situation adjoining the railway station. Friendly staff and a very good English breakfast. The hotel was obviously once rather grand and it still has a certain faded charm.

Lovely hotel and very well situated, but the hotel was a bit of a labyrinth and it was a long way to our room, with a number of stairs after getting out of the lift and this was an issue for myself as I have a disability and struggled with my luggage. The room was comfortable, but the carpet smelled in places. However I would stay again, simply for its location and proximity to the railway station.

I really enjoyed staying there as my first time in newcastle. The hotel is located in such a perfect spot! next to the station, metro and its in the perfect spot within the city!

No issues with the internal hotel room or staff. We were at the front of the hotel, it got very noisy on a night time. To a point where we couldn’t sleep. Bottles constantly being binned, people shouting. The windows are only single glazed so doesn’t help with the outside noise. Would stay again but not at front of hotel. Hotel parking over Xmas was a pain.

Conveniently placed for ease reach of everything in the city, parking and train travel.

Excellent location for Central station and short walk to shopping and quayside

Excellent value for money, amazing location, lovely to have use of the pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room for the money. I’d say ‘faded grandeur’ is probably the best description for the hotel, it’s a bit tired. However for the price and location, it’s great - this was my second stay and the room this time was much nicer - overlooked the stations which was lovely and quiet. I’ll be back!

TV controller missing, very hot overnight buy noisy when windows open. An additionally charge for the leisure centre now. Reasonable price though and a nice breakfast.

Enjoyed our stay, only down side was on the 2nd day, there was a queue for getting seated for breakfast and for hot food for breakfast. Dining area not big enough for amount of guest's

Really convenient if you're travelling by train to Newcastle as it's only two minutes away from the station. Clean comfortable rooms in a really quite grand old building. Good breakfast on offer in the restaurant which is open all day. Good value hotel imo.

Very interesting old architecture, great location, and very helpful reception staff. Charbroiled burger served in the bar was completely charred. Discount on food was not offered. Lack of functioning windows in the room and bathroom meant that the room was suffocating without any fresh air. Had to use a table-top fan. No extractor fan in the bathroom meant that the wooden window frame shows mold (room 310) which is a health hazard.

Lovely place full of period detail. Staff excellent, and the spa was a huge bonus, given the price. It's small, but I found it comfortable and not too busy. Bed was great, shower decent, good sized room and general facilities were excellent. Breakfast was great, very tasty. Coffee was good too.

Excellent two night stay. Lovely large room with lounge area which we later found out was the bridal suite. Room had bath and shower, bath towels could have done to be larger. Breakfast and lunch in the restaurant was very good. I am coeliac requiring gluten free and the staff were excellent and helpful especially Michael. Very local to station and town

I liked the building and the decor and the history of the building... its literally 3 buildings away from the station and only a few minutes walk into the centre... Staff very polite and friendly.. the only negative in my opinion is the breakfast, i dont think its worth the price due to the quality and quantity
