This is an older property that abuts right against the Pacific Grove Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary. The layout is like an older motel from the 1960s. I read some reviews where it said the walls were not insulated and there was a lot of noise. This was not our experience at all. We stayed two nights and it was dead quiet, even with full occupancy. Amenities are somewhat limited. There is a small refrigerator and a microwave. There is no in-unit A/C. Things like water pressure in the shower as well as the sink, were below the standard of what we are used to with hotels in this area, however they are adequate. Staff were friendly. Check in was easy. There is a pool which looked nice though we did not use it. It's fun to walk in this area of Pacific Grove though it is several blocks to Lighthouse Ave downtown area.

Seclude and peaceful. Can hear the waves and gulls from the shore. Butterfly sanctuary is beautiful. No butterflies, but it was fawning season, so we got see a family of deer. Walls are a little thin, so you might hear the neighbors. The hot tub was perfect after a long day.

This Inn was such a find. We have stayed here a few times and each has been wonderful. It is easy to find and parking is fantastic. We love that it borders the Butterfly sanctuary and can just step from our door to the pathway. The staff is always very pleasant and accommodating.

Everything was there and everything worked. Staff very friendly. Nice walk in the butterfly reserve. I’ve stayed at a couple of places when I am in Monterey, this is the second time here and everything held up. I will be back.

Very nice inn! Clean comfy room. There is a small refrigerator, microwave and coffee machine in the room which was very nice. Friendly staff. They allow dogs. There is a small grassy area in front of the room to walk a dog if needed. There is bigger field right outside of the property. They have pool and Jacuzzi (but I haven't had a chance to use it). Butterfly sanctuary is literally starts on the same property. There is a cafe at walkable distance from the property. I'll definitely come back again.

We enjoyed our stay at Butterfly Grove Inn. Great location next to the Monarch Butterfly reserve and good walkability into Pacific Grove. The room was clean and comfortable. The swimming pool is not heated but felt very invigorating. We'll be back!

Not far from the ocean, next door to the monarch sanctuary, BGI is a good place...a little dated/rustic but we liked it...out of the mainstream...nice and quiet....good hot tub...would stay there again.

The room was dated and in need of an upgrade. The chairs at the table were stained, I would suggest wood chairs. There was a musty odor upon entering the room. I would suggest that since they allow dogs to remove the carpet and put in laminate flooring. The positives were that the beds were comfortable and it was quiet.

I booked this motel as the options were limited due to car week.. extremely over priced for what you get. The location wasn’t bad, we had to park in the dirt. We stayed in the main house which the layout of the room was convenient. The beds were not very comfortable and I didn’t feel like things get cleaned well. The carpet looked and felt dirty and the doors etc looked dirty, I do understand it’s an old house I just don’t understand how they can charge what they did.

Closet door broken, Bathroom fan so loud we couldn't use the light. They did fix tat. Hair all in shower on tub and the wall. That put me over the edge. And all for over $300 a night just cuz of a local golf tournament. This place was a massive disappointment. Office was never open wen we had a question.

Overall I was happy with our stay. It is a very cute hotel, it’s older so that is expected to be a little basic. We enjoyed the hot tub and the pool looked nice for warmer months. It is adjacent to the monarch sanctuary which is cool. The bedding did not seem as clean as I would like, some stains on sheets. Bathroom was very large which was nice, room itself is big with high ceilings. I booked a king room but our room had a Queen and a full bed which was odd. It looked like where the full bed was use to have the table and chairs but had been rearranged possibly to hold more people. It’s a very charming hotel and I feel there is a missed opportunity to use local butterfly art rather than the few odd generic pictures on the wall. I like that dogs are allowed and if we stay again could bring ours.

Room was very clean & spacious. Could use a new bed, seemed worn down. Unfortunately we had to hear the kid next door constantly screaming and running/banging on things starting at 6am every day so I'm guessing the walls aren't very thick. It is a older place so expect it to show it but the price point was good. I do wish they offered pastries or muffins in the mornings, that would be helpful so we wouldn't have to try to get in somewhere to eat and spend another $60 just onbreakfast

The room was large and clean, however, the walls were thin so you can hear the guests in the next room (both sides). We had a rough first night, guests next door (2 queen beds rooms) were up talking and the noise level was loud. We called the front desk to ask if we can move to another room. The front desk told us, they will move us into another room in the morning. We were told to pack our bags leave them in the room or take them with us until the new room is ready. We packed up and left for the day. Later in the afternoon, we got a call from the front desk, telling us there are no rooms available. We were asked to pack our bags and expected another room (a quieter area). Instead, we returned to the same room and unpack again, we were furious not to say the least. The manager was not helpful. No apology is extended for the inconvenience. It was the US Women's Open in the area so accommodations were limited. Otherwise, we would have checked out earlier.

We got a giant room with high ceiling! A breakfast table for 4, a fridge and a microwave oven! The room is clean, the beds are super comfortable with extra blankets in the closely. The bathroom is small, with stacks of towels. The sink is tiny and is outside of the bathroom but the counter space is big and the mirror is large. Staff is friendly and parking is easy. We left a souvenir in our room and they are happy to ship it to our home for us. The hotel is in a woodsy area and we sat outside for our morning coffee. The hotel is cute with lots of amenities. We are very happy to have found this gem. ❤️

The hotel room was spacious and had a gas fireplace as the heating source, which was much appreciated. An easy 10 minute walk to a number of restaurants and close to the PCH and 17 Mile Drive. Pet Friendly for our small dog.

The front desk was very helpful and professional in dress and demeanor. The room was spacious and beds very comfortable. Booking, checking in, access, and check out were very easy. Overall, it was an excellent stay and I look forward to our next visit. The carpet needed a deep clean and the tub needed replacing. The water did not get very hot. We had noisy neighbors one night, and the light came through the blinds at night, so sleep was a little fitful. The location was ideal for beach and aquarium access. Good grocery stores nearby. I would stay here again without hesitation.

This older, but very well maintained property was quiet, close to town, ocean and many points of interest. The rooms were large and the beds very comfortable. It adjoins the Monarch Butterfly Sanctuary which is well worth a visit when they are present, but great for a walk the rest of the year. It was pet friendly. We enjoyed our stay here and will be back to try the pool and spa which we did not have time for this stay.

Have stayed here multiple times since 2016 and always feel comfortable. It’s not the newest property, but the rooms are clean and spacious. Great location with easy access to many focal points. Quiet neighborhood. Will be back again!

We've stayed here several times, quiet, affordable, dog-friendly. Unfortunately, they stopped providing the free breakfast but it's not a "deal breaker." This property also houses the monarch butterfly grove, we did not see too many because it was cloudy. Property is walkable to the ocean as well.

I loved our 1-night stay! Pet-friendly, very comfortable bed. Free Kirkland coffee with a selection of teas from 0800-1000, pool use from 1000-2200. Centrally located but far enough away from the tourism hub. Friendly front desk, larger-than-expected room!

What a funky place...I loved the vibe. They don't offer breakfast so we were directed to Toasties nearby and had a great breakfast. Close to good restaurants and a nice shoreline trail. Could use some instructions about the heat and operating the ceiling fan. I would stay again.

We reserved 3 rooms for our family for two nights. We were initially disappointed there wasn’t breakfast but the local places are close and very friendly. The rooms are spacious and equipped with everything someone needs. The rooms were a little stuffy and felt muggy at times. I think the ventilation and bathrooms could use some updating.

The property is in a perfect location: right next to the Monarch Butterfly Grove and within a short walking distance to the light house and beach, with beautiful views and lots of wildlife. Near Asilomar Conference Grounds and 17 Mile Drive. Deer are everywhere in the evening. Staff were extremely pleasant, and they make great coffee for guests in the office. Our room (24) was a suite on the second floor, with lovely view of the butterflies. 2 spacious rooms were linked by hallway to shared bathroom. There was an electric fireplace in the larger of the two rooms (one with king bed. Other had a queen). Beds were super comfy. Forced air heat worked well in addition to fireplace. Rollaway cot was put in place by time of our arrival. Staff was eager to please.

Walls are a little thin. Could hear the gentleman snoring throughout the evening. Plumbing is older and could hear every shower, sink water, and toilet flush. I would also have appreciated limited breakfast for the room price.
