Neat building with lots of interesting history. Staff was great from check in to the shuttle driver and the bartender. Shuttle will drive you to anyplace within 2 miles of hotel. A nice perk

The room was fine, it is an old hotel but nice and beds were super comfortable. However the bar service was terrible. We were excited to stop and have a drink after attending a wedding reception. The bar had people in it but was not crazy busy. We sat at a table and the waitress walked by us multiple times without acknowledging us. The bartender wasn't busy but we couldn't get to her to order because all the chairs at the bar were filled with customers. It was really frustrating. We walked out without ordering after 25 minutes.

This historic hotel has been updated and is conveniently located in downtown Des Moines. Parking off site is confusing because it crosses multiple blocks so it is confusing as to how to get to the hotel after parking. The rooms and bathrooms are small but updated. Food and drinks on-site are pricey - $60 for an appetizer, bowl of cold soup and 2 cocktails. I would pay $100-125 per night maximum. Front desk staff very welcoming and helpful.

We decided to spend the night in Des Moines. When I traveled for business, I always stayed at Savery and loved it and was always great. This time was different. Room was great, nice and cool with great bed. However I was not told that do not have a real restaurant anymore. The old one serves breakfast only. They have a bar that serves some food. We could not get service. All the dining places within walking distant had closed. If you are counting to have dinner in the hotel, this is not a good one

Fantastic experience! Came in for a concert, room was great, parking garage across the street, very quiet, easy access to the concert venue through the skywalks. Had a couple of drinks to end the evening, the lounge and staff were great. Would recommend to anyone for a place to stay.

This was a fine hotel. It’s in a decent spot in Des Moines, room was spacious and decently nice. It’s an hotel that has been refreshed but not updated. One of the elevators was out while we stayed and they weren’t very big to begin with, so it was a bit of a hassle when multiple people were waiting. When we first checked in, our AC was out and there was a cockroach in the bathroom but the hotel staff handled it very well and gave us a new room, the second room was fine. I feel like for the price we paid it was a fine, but average hotel.

It was a nice place. Could have used better maid service. No shampoo or conditioner in our room the entire 4 days we stayed here, just empty bottles in bathroom. No clean drinking glasses. After the second day they stopped making our bed. Never once vacuumed. They did however come in to shut off the air conditioner when it was 94 degrees.

The staff were excellent! Very helpful, remembered us and our needs. The only issue was that our flights were delayed such that we didnt arrive until the next morning. We called the hotel twice to alert them each time of our delays but when we didn’t show at the original time they apparently canceled our reservation. They did find a room for us but it smelled either of stale cigarettes or some bad smell. I was at wit’s end with no sleep and Staff let us sleep while they searched for another room and then called us ( at the time we had stated we would be waking up) and got us a better room. All was great after that.

System was down when we checked in (late) so room couldn’t e assigned so no keys provided. Front desk assigned a room and walked us to our room to unlock door. Room smelled like cigarette smoke and the bed looked like someone had been lying in it

Hotel is in a great location. We stayed a Saturday night so parked on the street that is free after 9 and Sundays. Walked in the lobby and it smelled of cigarette smoke and musty. Front desk was friendly. Got to our room also had a weird odor but tolerable. Bed was comfortable.. bathroom was tiny. Great for a 1 day quick stay but everything costs extra.

The hotel was good overall. Nice bed, good sized room. The negative - check in took about 25 mins because she couldn’t find our room rate. Found the reservation but couldn’t find the rate. The room is spacious, but the bathroom is smaller than on most cruise ships. You can touch the back wall of the shower from the toilet. The stairs are also a bit confusing if you don’t want to take the elevator. Great location though. If you don’t want to pay for garage parking, go park on the bridge, it’s free.

Customer service was severely lacking, they treated me like I didn't belong there because I was wearing fancy business attire and were super rude as a result. Didn't service the room even when I had called down asking for an afternoon service and they assured me they would.

Now, I will admit that the individuals that I encountered may not represent the entire staff, but it seems like the manager of the staff of this property might want to provide guidance for some of the staff on customer service. The front desk help was not courteous or friendly. They acted as if it was a burden to help you. Did not smile, and were not cordial. The staff at breakfast was rude and had a similar response. I'm pretty sure the Saturday night valet attendant was smoking weed. Not what I would call a hospitable staff.

Upon arrival, the front desk was quite the top notch employee. He was friendly, kind, and informative of everything the hotel had to offer. Not only did he check me in late in the evening, but he also gave me some history of the hotel as I waited on checking in.

Great hotel. We have stayed here before and have liked it both times. Very close, easily walkable, to the performing arts center, which is why we were there. We got back to the hotel late and really appreciated that we could get food still in the bar. Breakfast at the restaurant was very good. Clean, quiet, comfortable. My top 3 criteria all met.

The hotel was situated in downtown Des Moines. The staff at the hotel were wonderful. It was closed to highways going East or West. However, the rooms are small and the bathroom smaller. Parking is $35 a day for valet parking. To park your car, the garage is not close. I had to bring my bags in upon arrival. While room service is available; there's a $5.00 fee for them to bring it to your room. I was working (personal laptop) from my room and it was a tight fit.
