Colonial Inn Ellsworth

No elevator. Difficult carrying a lame dog up and down stairs. Good options for a grab and go breakfast. Friendly staff. Very expensive for an old accommodation.

Basic room in much need of repair with wallpaper falling off and flooring ripped to show water damaged plywood. Room cleaning was performed well. No elevator to second floor.

Great place to come bake to after a long day of hiking at Acadia. Pet friendly is always a plus. Spacious, clean rooms and very nice staff.

Great staff, the pool was a chilly 74 but the kids still enjoyed it it’s pretty large. The grab and go breakfast had more than I thought it would. We would stay here again

Big pool fully equipped, suitable for family with kids

Aside from the doors locking mechanisms and older mattresses, this is a great stop for people on the road. They have guest laundry services, a heated indoor swimming pool, a game room and plenty of different vending machines including ice cream and breakfast sandwiches. The continental breakfast offers many choices.

Pool was good

Parking was just outside the room. They had washers and dryers. The washers were good but the dryers didn't dry the clothes. Breakfast was simple but good.

Pool wasn’t heated! Liner/seal looks like it’s coming off the pool. We were told this was a newer suite. Suite had no kitchen towels or paper towels. No gluten free options offered for breakfast. Analog clock in suite was broke…4:52!

We have had non-cooked continental breakfasts before. The breakfast here was all pre-packaged low end items such as pop tarts and Sara Lee cup cakes. Was not appetizing at all. The bed was comfortable but low end linens. They had a nice and very large pool. That was the highlight of the stay.

Accommodating staff. Very clean room with up to date furnishings. Quiet and comfortable. Would definitely recommend.

The conditions of the room were pretty bad. The ceiling in the room had disgusting stains on it. The bathroom walls were coming off. Silicone is coming off around the bathtub. Ceiling in the bathroom also have yellow stains allover and it looked like it can fall down any minute. The floors are wooden so for half a night it sounded like someone is walking and sliding chairs on our heads (we were on the first floor). The plumbing was making noises too. We did not end up using the pool or any other facilities. The breakfast was ok with some healthy options like hard boiled eggs, cream cheese bagels, etc. Location is 30 minutes away from Bar Harbor. The restaurant next door is good. Overall, all of this would be acceptable if we were paying $100 USD for the room, for $300/night it is not.

The hotel is dated and I am really ok with that. I understand upgrades cost, the bathroom grout and sylicone were black. that can be cleaned and fixed. and the toilet seat was in terrible shape. another easy fix. The room had a bad smell, I needed to keep the sliding door open for a hour each day to try and air out the room. there seemed to be a few hours everyday that they didn't have staff on site. I do not find that this hotel was worth the money.

Went to check in and seeing that it was a pet friendly spot I asked about having my cat. They said no and they would not be able to honor the reservation. I told them I would take my cat somewhere else to stay. As I was checking in they threatened me with more charges if I had the cat in the room. I responded with “I just told you I am taking the cat somewhere else. So, you can stop the threats. Also, the room was iffy. The beds smelled like they had been slept in and they just remade it without cleaning the blankets sheets pillow cases. Bathroom walls had yellowish orange nastiness on them. around the seal of the tub and shower was mold. Other than that not too bad. It was not a bad stay

Upon arrival the property looked inviting. Once in the room it felt dirty and very uninviting. Close the entry door and you can still see into the hallway all around the door. Didn't want to walk on the floors without your shoes and certainly wouldn't take a shower there. The TV was very small and had to get an attendant to come up to make it work. At checkout in the morning was the only part that went as planned.

I loved my stay here and would recommend it and stay here again. The room’s layout was perfect for a longer stay (sometimes motel rooms are small or toilets are facing the bathtub so there’s little space to move but not here). It was super clean, and had a lovely smell everyday, even after a few days. The chair and bed were very comfortable, and very welcoming after day’s of hiking. The late night coffee and tea station was very appreciated! Thank you for making for a great, reasonably priced stay so close to Acadia!

It's not that the room was dirty, but it wasn't really clean either. The tub and toilet were clean, but we found some hairs in the bed and the towels were a bit sketchy looking. We checked the mattresses for any hints of bed bugs, and didn't see any of the tell tale signs. The door handle plating was oddly stained as well, that made it look worse than it was. The wallpaper was torn in the bathroom, and one wall section appeared to be in the middle of some sort of overhaul, with exposed screws and construction materials, making it appear unfinished. The staff were friendly, and the kids loved the pool, but the wife was a little creeped out by the place. It was certainly not the worst place I've ever stayed.

Pleasantly surprised at the cleaniness of this place. Spacious rooms. Comfortable beds. Pool area was very clean and the pool was very clean and no overpowered chlorine smell like other hotels have. Definitely would stay here again.

Clean, quiet and good amenities.

We were pleasantly surprised we enjoyed our stayand the kids really enjoyed the pool. This may not be a place to stay if you want really quiet as you can hear everything in the hallway and the walking upstairs over your head. We were in town for cheer comps so there was kids being kids it didnt bother us as one of the cheer families. We brought a fan it drowned the noise enough to get to sleep all in all it was great. Breakfast was minimal but we grabed a pop tart while getting ready to get out the door out the door and headed for dunkin lol

Clean but this is a few frills establishment. The bathtub was clean but had two different colors of glaze. Clearly old and needed updating and caulking. The front door locked and opened into the hallway but the sliding glass back door, which opened into a parking area, had a broken lock and just a board that fit the track. A little disconcerting. The room was clean and quite spacious and the back door for loading and unloading the car was convenient.

The staff was very nice. The beds are a bit stiff but not terrible. All the first floor rooms have sliding glass doors that face the parking lot and main road. The latch was hard to use and didn’t feel completely safe.

The room was clean. The room was limited. No hangers, no closet, no coffee maker. It felt like a very cheap motel room but was clean. The cleaning staff was friendly but the office staff was not at all friendly or helpful. Apparently for the price I was rewarded with location only. I would not recommend this facility.

Clean, no issues, convenient to area attractions, a little dated with tiny bathroom but minor matter, good value overall and welcomed reprieve after traveling significant distance

We stayed at the Colonial Inn for about a week back in July with family. It was a quiet spot, and the kids LOVED the arcade area and pool. We had booked two rooms and one was nicely updated while the other was pretty musty and in need of renovation. If we could ensure we got one of the updated rooms, we would definitely stay here again in the future.

Close to the highway, can be noisy. Needs upgrading, lobby could be improved. Does not make a good impression. Bed was comfortable, air system very noisy.

The bed was horrible. It was an old spring mattress that was worn out. Woke up with a back ache.

The staff is so awesome they are always willing to help and the maids are very friendly would stay here again and tell all my family and friends to stay there we loved it so much we paid for one more night

The guy at the counter when we checked in was rude. Actually over heard him trash talking another guest when we walked in the lobby.

The good: very good price, the owner seems to take pride in the property, pool, food available in AM, room amenities. The not-so-good: Dated, ii that matters to you (doesn’t to us) The terrible: Irwin, the incredibly rude morning desk clerk. If it weren’t for Irwin, this would be 5 star. This was a great location and it is evident that the owner takes pride in this location. I was so surprised at jow much this spot had to offer—unexpected! The rooms are comfortable and the person who checked us in was kind and took the time yo show us around. There is an indoor pool which looked great, laundry room, vending machines, ice, and a sliding door in the downstairs units that you can use to bring in your luggage. Your main locked door is an inside unit. Aside from the horribly rude man in the AM who unfortunately changed our mind on staying a second night, it was great. The owner needs to fire Irwin, the morning desk worker, or the owner will lose more business than just ours.

Friendly staff, easy access to the national park

The property is nice had a great time the last time I was here. This time tho one of the staff at the desk was a complete ass almost the entire stay. He didn’t want to do his job at all and was completely mean to us every time we asked a question all because we showed up too early cuz we came from up north of Maine. It was completely ridiculous

We have stayed at Colonial Inn Ellsworth many times--it's on the way to visit family so we stay a few times each summer--and the people who work here are always incredibly kind. The property has been updated quite a bit over the last year (at least on the first floor, I am not sure about other floors) but even before the updates, the hotel always felt clean and homey. It's not a fancy hotel but it's safe, clean and lovely--in some ways, it sort of feels like walking into 1986, but in a very good way. It has an 80s vibe while also being up-to-date; it's really very charming but the real reason for my 1st review ever is to say that this hotel is an epicenter of kindness. The employees here incredibly kind & patient. They are extraordinarily thoughtful; we once forgot a beloved stuffed animal from one of my children. An employee of the hotel called us within ten minutes of our departure to let us know; when we returned to pick it up, they had packed up a small breakfast for us to eat in the car. Another time we checked in later than expected due to traffic and they kept the pool open a bit later so that our children could still swim after such a long ride. Each time we stay, different employees go out of their way. The amazing thing is that guests do too; a group of guests sitting in the area in front of the hotel once helped me to carry all of our things in when I was traveling with our children alone. People at this hotel are always so kind--every single time, SO MUCH KINDNESS

Didn’t have my reservation, guy couldn’t have cared less.

No one was at the front desk to check us in. We could not get into the room we reserved. So, after a very long flight and drive, we had to look for another place to stay at 1 am. It was not a good experience.

Good variety for the continental breakfast (esp in the fridge). Very friendly and helpful staff. Posts on veranda need paint, makes it look shabby. Convenient location to restaurants and reasonable price so close to Acadia NP (18 miles).

Our stay was wonderful here and we would recommend this place to others as well. It’s a 30-minute drive to Bar Harbor, ME but really close to restaurants, grocery stores, other stores. The staff were very nice and they offered mini breakfast as well. Highly recommend!

This was a cheaper option around the Acadia national park area.

...Didn't use the pool.... Rooms were clean. Staff was great, continental breakfast was a lot of choices. One thing possibly that needs to be addressed is in the back where the dog walk area is. There is dog crap everywhere. People don't clean up after themselves. Otherwise, I would stay here again in the near future. Thank you

The venue is clean, and although the breakfast is a quick grab-and-go, it’s a delicious way to kick-start your morning. Guests can enjoy hot water available all day, adding to the convenience. Plus, the location offers easy access to the charming area of Bar Harbor.

The place was very nice. We enjoyed the pool. The next morning we discovered we had no hot water went to the front desk and they said they didn’t know what was wrong. Also, they have breakfast and there were no gluten-free options. I know it can be hard, but just fruit or yogurt would’ve been nice. Kind of expected some refund for no hot water, but nothing was offered.

It seems that it has in the hotel itself offers more than it can produce. The breakfast was cold cereal cold muffins cold yogurt cold eggs, there was nothin there breakfast buffet. The room was very clean, and the bed was absolutely outstanding.

Well kept rooms and homey old time feel hotel. There is a heated pool which we didn't use. Breakfast is grab and go with a lot of variety and heat up items. Small tables are available as well. Coffee is good too. Front desk is responsive to any problem you might have. Not a 24 hr front desk.
