Stayed 5 nights

I recently stayed for five nights and it was trouble free and quite relaxing. Every morning there was a well stocked breakfast station. Very good coffee, as well. The front staff were always friendly. The room was clean. It’s a little different, having the sink on the outside of the bathroom, in the walk-in area by the door. But if that doesn’t bother you, everything else is just fine. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. The clientele seemed to be more upscale than the clientele next door at Extended Stay America. Every time I drove by the Extended Stay America parking lot, there was always one or two people out there smoking or just hanging out sitting on the curb. But there was none of that at the Fairfield Inn. In fact, I even spotted a beaver in a grassy area just off of the parking lot. Apparently beavers have been making their way back to Ann Arbor for the last three years and this one is reclaiming a pond nearby that is out of sight. He saw me and scurried away quickly, but it was cool that I saw one. But I digress. My main takeaway is that I will definitely be coming back to the Fairfield Inn. It’s the kind of place that my picky wife would be fine with and when she’s happy, the trip goes 100% better.

The top floors, 3 and 4 are completely new renovated rooms including new comfy beds. This is a Marriott property they are really putting in some money to bring it to a higher quality than before with shampoo etc in the large walk in showers. Mine had a refrig and microwave. The common areas such as lobby, breakfast room, entrance and elevators need renovations and I’m sure they’re on the list. Awesome full buffet breakfast!

Upon arriving it was apparent the property was under renovation with one floor looking to have the windows covered with garbage bags. Nothing was mentioned about this during booking. Check in was easy and the desk attendant was pleasant. Entering our room, there was a strong smell of mildew. There were brown, wet spots covering the vents to the A/C unit. There were also areas of mold and mildew at the joint between the wall and ceiling. The furniture was had signs of significant wear. The shower also had mildew. I’m happy the hotel recognizes need for renovation. But this room should not have been available to book in the state it was in, especially at the offered price, well over $200. We ended up not staying, and opted for a different hotel nearby.
