Convenient to the Riverwalk. Parking was a block away and it was $15 a day which we didn’t know about till we got there. The dryer in the laundry room did not work so I had to hang my clothes in my room. The swimming pool was supposed to be open until 10 PM but the desk clerk told me she was shutting it down at 9:45 PM Other than that, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was very good.

Only one elevator for 5 floors. Dining room for Breakfast very small, select of food items very limited. Pool on back side of building and very small pool. Parking is away from hotel. The building was an old jail made into a hotel. We will not stay there again.

Receptionist area: small, cluttered, and disorganized. Parking: City parking available for an additional 25 dollars a night. Breakfast area: small and crowded. Actual price was 20 dollars more than advertised price. Then when I got there, they ran my card for an additional 25 dollars, which I can only assume was for parking, even though they said it was deposit. Parking is around the block and property has no acccess to parking lot, which means you have to walk a ways. Having said that, the room and room condition were actually not bad.

Stayed for a week. The room was comfortable and cleaned regularly. The staff were friendly and fun to talk to, and the location was perfect for walking downtown. Pool area was clean. The stationary bike and the treadmill in the gym were both broken.

The breakfast area was cramped. It was right at the check in area and not much room to set to have breakfast. The parking was 2 blocks away and was not noted on the website. When I booked it otherwise, I would look at somewhere else. There's also a $15 charge per day for parking. That was not noted either.

The parking for this hotel is a disaster. You have to park around the corner in a paid lot that you can only enter/exit with a badge kept at the front desk. You are expected to “park” somewhere on a small one way road, check in, get the badge, go around the corner, park your car, then return the badge. You must get the badge anytime you’d like to leave the parking lot, then stop on the one way street to return it to the front desk prior to actually leaving. This entire process is infuriating and time consuming, in addition to forcing you to find a place to stop your car by the hotel entrance on a street with no actual parking anytime you’d like to go somewhere in your vehicle upon leaving and returning. You pay for this “parking.”

First, the good thing they have a lot in the back for contract parking that can be purchased in reception. What I don't like that is not close in/out of building. Y'all have to walk around to the block to the parking. And the pool was out of service. Would like to have enjoyed it since should be part of 2 night stay pay.

I liked the place where the hotel is located near the center, what I didn't like is the parking lot, every time you get in and out of the car you have to ask for a card to enter the parking lot. And it's an extra charge for parking, it's not much but it's uncomfortable to walk around the office every now and then for the card.

Room wasn’t clean when we checked in. There were French fries on the floor next to the bed. The shower curtain rod wasn’t secured to the wall completely, so it sagged and the shower curtain would slide out while showering, resulting in water getting on the floor.

This place was absolutely disgusting! You walk in the door and the lobby smell smells like smoke and marijuana. The halls and elevator are even worse. The stairwell smelled like urine, there were eyelashes on the floor and some sort of goop on the walls. They had the carpet removed, and it was just concrete and looked absolutely filthy! Everything, everything! Was disgusting! The first room we were put in did not smell like smoke, but the toilet was flooded and had run out onto the carpet when we arrived in the room. And in in general, just looked dirty. We went back down and we were given another room. That one was just as filthy and smelled terrible. So we went and got yet another room. This one was the master suite. The toilet was running without any water, the desk had food stuck to it, the blanket had a cigarette hole burned into it. And it also smells like smoke and marijuana. We decided after three rooms that we were just going to leave. It is incomprehensible to us how or why favorable reviews were given for this place. The only plus I can give is, The guy who worked the night shift was really nice and he tried really hard to accommodate us. But honestly, that was the only good thing about this place. DO NOT STAY HERE? It is disgusting, filthy, nasty and smells horrible!

When reading informarion online it is very easy to miss that parking is not free at this hotel! And parking is a short walk from the hotel entrance. This hotel is nice enough but some updates and repairs would be appreciated. The front desk and entrance of the hotel was stacked with boxes and stuff that looked very cluttered and was not the best way to be welcomed. The room was fine but smelled very musty upon our arrival. I have no clue what was going on with the sheets but they seemed too small and would not stay on the beds leading to frustrations throughout the nights. Housekeeping did not replace empty toilet paper or tissue boxes over our multiple day stay. Breakfast was good and different selections were available each morning but there was not enough seating for many guests to eat breakfast. Location was good and was in walking distance to the Alamo, Riverwalk and the market square.

The location was very good - walkable to everywhere we wanted to go. The property needs a refresh. Our room (#119) had a very odd smell in it; we believe it was because the pool was outside our room. It was very annoying. Don't stay in room 119! The pool also desperately needs a refresh.

Loved my stay at the Holiday Inn Express San Antonio N-Riverwalk Area. The location is perfect—just a short walk to the River Walk, Market Square, and the Alamo. Where do I begin? I booked this location because of the "good reviews" it had. I feel, either the reviews were made up or clearly we were given a horrible room. The room at a glance looked decent when we walked in. We left our bags and walked to the river walk. On our return we were exhausted from a long trip and from walking to get dinner. We chose to walk because the parking in this location wasn't the greatest and there was only one handicap spot. So, upon laying down we noticed that the floor was soaking wet. The ac was hanging from the wall and it was dripping water. One of the closet doors was wonky. We called front desk and let them know. The receptionist of course said there were no rooms available. She called back later said they had a room but by this point my older mom was already asleep. When we woke up we were covered in bed bug bites!!!!!!! My toddler, mom, older son, and myself have bites all over our hands, back, and neck. This seems to be a norm with holiday inn express hotels and I will never stay or recommend again.

The primary reason we choose to stay at a Holiday Inn Express is because we can usually count on a great experience in a safe and comfortable room. This was NOT that experience. Upon arriving, the room was a bit stuffy and warm so we turned down the thermostat. After a couple of hours we realized that the cooling system was broken so the AC unit was merely nothing more than a fan, circulating the already stale and warm air. I let the front desk clerk know this and she stated no other rooms were available and instead was only able to offer me a box fan. In addition, we were prohibited by the hotel from opening the windows due to the building being old and considered a landmark. My wife and two kids had a horrible night of sleep as a result of the warm, stuffy and humid environment. Both my wife and my son woke up with a headache. The next morning upon checkout I told the morning desk clerk about our experience. To say she was indifferent was an understatement. Her response was a simple monotoned "I'm sorry about that" and proceeded to remind me to leave the room keys in the container in front of me. Absolutely. Unacceptable. The only reason I gave an overall rating of 2 stars was because their breakfast was better than average and the room was clean. But to be treated with a "tough luck, oh well" mentality is far from what we would call hospitality and concern for the customer.

The a/c unit wasn't working properly so i let the front desk know immediately they gave me a box fan and said them will be moving me to a different room tomorrow due to no vacancy at the moment. The next night it completely stop working went to the front desk and again no vacancy at the moment And on top of all that it was a surprise parking fee and deposit had no idea i had to pay to park where I was staying😒

pros: nice rooms and restrooms, clean. there’s a dominos around the corner. they have a pancake maker. cons: the ac was at 68 but the fan was SLOW. i did try to switch the fan to high but nothing changed. the ac didn’t go any lower than 68. i’d wake up hot. the parking sucked, had to walk around the corner AND pay for the public parking for each day.

They gave me the wrong type of room and when I asked for a reduction in rate, they started being rude to me. The parking is limited and unsafe. There was food left in the mini fridge from the previous guest. The front desk person refused to give her name and hung up the phone on me.

The staff was super friendly. When we got to our room, it was very cold so we put the heat on and set the temp. The AC kept blowing and went above temp. We tried to turn it off but, even on off it wouldn’t turn off. We called the front desk and they sent some immediately. Try as they must they couldn’t resolve the issue so they moved us in a better room. We brought my Steam Deck so my gf and I can play Golf with Friends when we are done with our evening. The remote wouldn’t let us change to the input so we contact the front desk again. They provided us with a new remote and we were able to enjoy our gaming after a night out with our friends. Breakfast in the morning was nice. Bacon, sausage, eggs, pancakes, cereal, pastry’s, biscuits, juice, coffee, etc. Would definitely stay again. The service was amazing. 11/10.

This was overall a good hotel to stay in especially for a downtown location. Here are a few specifics that I'd watch for... Security- this are has a large homeless population. While they did not bother us much it was something to be mindful of as you come and go. The building could use a guard or patrol as it has unsecured areas that are accessible to the public. Parking- there is a lot behind the hotel and they charge you $10 a day to park. There is no direct access to enter the hotel from the lot so you have to walk around the block which is something to be mindful of. There were cars that chose NOT to obey this and complicated thing for people checking in and out. This was very aggravating. My 63 year old step mother also took a fall due to the poorly maintained asphalt and there being no walkways into the lot, this was hazardous and impacted our trip. Pool- there's a really nice little pool area, it's clean, cool, and well cared for. Only issue was it's unsecured and an unstable homeless woman with no underwear was swimming in it when we checked in. Disgusting!! Breakfast- great choices, clean stations, continuously stocked. The tabled and chairs are too large for the area though which made it cramped and hard to navigate. Rooms- clean, well maintained, and spacious. Hallways and elevators- clean well maintained, and quiet. Staff- every person was polite, kind, personable, and tried their best to make everyone comfortable.

Not the greatest part of town. Easy enough access to the River walk but have to go through quite a bit of homeless to do it. Didn’t feel too safe walking after dark. Also, parking was VERY limited at the hotel, maybe 5 spaces which was $15/night or offsite parking that was around the block for $10/night. Elevator was a bit shady at times and only 1. They charged my card before a day before my checkout with additional charges for the parking fees. Overall, I’d rather stay on the river walk next time.

Breakfast was good both days. Rooms generally cold and clean. Were small spotting stains on walls in bathroom by sink and hairs of unknown origins in corners by the sink. Iron and hair dryer worked. Appreciated the toothpaste packets and disposable razor. hotel is pretty close to most attractions and not a bad walk. Mostly secluded off busy street and appreciated there always seemed to be a cop parked out front. The pool was clean and not busy. A little cool but we did go later afternoon evening when sun was down. Room was a good size with high ceilings and hall was quiet. We were very far from elevator and could see our car by the elevator window. parking wasn’t far. Not clear instructions on where to park and load/unload when we first got there. Overall a good stay. Would come to this hotel again.

Sketchy surroundings. Horrible parking. Got there an hour early ….told to come back later. Drink container found on side of bed. Rooms were nice. Breakfast was nice…but very small area.
