Last minute trip with friends. The hotel is not bad we like the look and layout and the old touches that it has. The beds were uncomfortable. The room was muggy. The pool was under construction which was a big disappointment this should have been a flag when booking.

I did not like the fact that they had no parking available for guests of the hotel. It was full of people attending an event. I had a reservation but I had to drive to another parking garage several hundred yards away, which may not sound like a big deal but I am handicapped and have a hard time walking that distance. I will not stay at this hotel again.

Stayed at the Gunter for one night, there is no on site parking except for a valet service they offer for $50. Otherwise you must find your own parking. My room was out of conditioner and had very little shampoo. Staff was friendly. Had breakfast at the restaurant downstairs manager seemed overwhelmed but waiter was nice. Overal 3-4 stars.

No compensation for there being no available pool. Valet parking was expensive. My car got damaged while under valet responsibility. The hallways in the hotel did not smell good at all. Sort of a urine smell? But it also smelled like urine while walking outside the building too. No sign of housekeeping except at 8am while I was still sleeping. For the price of this hotel, they could’ve done better for sure.

Absolutely gorgeous new hotel in the heart of downtown. Very attentive and friendly staff across the board. Wonderful drinks and light dinner in their beautiful lobby bar where everyone went the extra mile. We'll come back to San Antonio JUST to stay here.

It went smoothly. Everything was great, only a couple of things reduced the rating from top rating, including the ice machine being broken on our floor, as well as the soda machine which should be capable of credit card transactions having the card reader broken. Room was clean and as advertised. The restaurant bar closes very early, which is a bummer, but they do have a speakeasy but there was a musical act in there that was very loud and not the best, so we avoided the speakeasy.

The hotel is AMAZING. The only fault I found was the ice machine was broken on most of the floors. Other than that it was a great stay, I can't wait to be back!

checked the room and bathroom, there was hair in the bathtub. we showered anyway. and let staff know about the dirty tub. they said they had no staff at that time. the next morning i reminded them again at the counter an d asked for clean towels. we went about our day. when we returned we had clean towels but the tub was not cleaned . i called again to the front desk and they finally sent someone to clean the tub.

The lobby and entrance looked great. But everything else about the hotel is out dated like elevator and rooms. The bedding in the room was clean and great. The bathroom was dirty with lime and calcium build up everywhere. The bathtub had rust stains all over and the shower head had a leak they sprayed the entire room. Honestly the best part of the room was only the bed.

The room was adjacent to the street and people were parting, screaming, racing and honking all night up until 3;30am. The shower tub was filthy dirty. I asked to have it cleaned and nothing was done.

The Gunter Hotel is beautiful, safe, has a GREAT location, and the staff was extremely friendly! My only negative comment would be about the cleanliness of the bathroom tile which needed a good scrubbing and the bath fixtures could use a good vinegar soak to remove the hard water deposits.

I had to be placed in 3 rooms all of which the carpets were filthy room 904, 806 & 505. The complimentary breakfast oatmeal was cold I thought I would get an entire hot meal. The lobby was gorgeous nice & clean but the rooms need to be all upgraded. The website should state that there wasn't a pool available. I will never be back to The Gunter!

We had a late check in and all hotel parking was taken by non hotel guests so we had to park at a nearby garage, pay $25 for overnight parking and haul our luggage down flights of stairs and through downtown. Not a great start. It’s an older historical hotel so keep that in mind. Not a very clean room. Left hand prints on mirrors, room smelled like dirty water, empty shower amenities and no towels for two people. Pros: Staff was nice and there’s a bar with live music and a restaurant inside hotel.

Beautifully restored historic hotel. Within easy walking distance to Alamo and Riverwalk, many eateries to select from within a short distance. Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. Drawbacks: hot water took 5-10 minutes to reach the 10th floor, noisy (adjoining rooms, above/below our floor). Elevators - 1 "beeped" continuously (as if there were an error) and another the doors rubbed excessively opening and closing (always a concern that the next trip up/down, they may not open completely).

I checked into the Gunter hotel and was assigned a room on the 10th floor. The room was nice, the bed was comfortable, and I had a nice view from the window. The elevators are really fast, I didn’t wait any longer than 10 seconds every time I used the elevators. The hotel location was in a great spot and I enjoyed my stay.

Historic building with some modern upgrades. As expected, the room was a bit small and bathroom odd with no door. But a near stay near the theatre was a huge bonus.

This was the smallest room we have ever stayed in. The queen bed was pushed up against the wall making it difficult to get in and out of. Barely room to walk around in. It was not the room that we booked that was pictured on the website.

Valet was very friendly, on the expensive side, $50 a night, but our vehicle was safer. Front desk staff was very friendly, patient and accommodating. The room was clean, a little dusty. The soap dispenser at the sink was not working. The the closet was very tiny, only about a foot deep. We were on the 4th floor and could hear the street noise but the bed was very comfy. Proximity to the Riverwalk was perfect. Would probably stay again.

From he first night there till the day we left. We were greeted as friends. They housekeeping staff knew our name and went above and beyond. Asking if we needed anything. The hotel feels like you stepped back to the mid-1950 with a modern feel. Rooms are great large with beautiful windows. The front desk were helpful with directions and even advice on great food locations near by. Overall deserves a 5 star hotel.

Gunther hotel First off let me state we are Marriott Bonvoy members that happened to book via expedia. It would appear that you do get lesser service from booking via Expedia. At check in they were nice, but spoke as little as possible. I gave them my Bonvoy number , but didn’t know if we would get credit since we booked via Expedia. They mentioned Expedia several times actually. I guess that is a bad thing? Elevators are missing panels on some of lights and controls. One screeches, loudly. Bar 414 wan’t quite ready for business at 5pm. They were still trying to get their garnishes. Espresso machine was down and beer taps broken. But they were friendly and trying hard at the bar. Next day made mistake of sleeping in after seeing a show at the Majestic Theater and we called to see if we could get a late checkout. They said no, I had to ask if they could hold luggage at bell desk. Decided to just do the hotel restaurant for breakfast called Market on Houston at 11 am. We were told the kitchen was closed. Hours on door clearly indicate they were open. Overall this is about what I would expect from a 2 star highway frontage road establishment and not a historic downtown hotel. Just go somewhere else. You will have a better stay.

After taking 40 minutes to check in my husband and I were going to try and grab a drink from the bar while we waited in line. It was closed. We were not given any apology or explanation as to why the check in process was such a nightmare. At Check out it was the same story. Long lines only to be told we were good to go. Overall very frustrating. The facility was clean and the location was very convenient.

Excellent location in downtown San Antonio. The only down side is that everything in downtown closes at 9pm. The rest it’s great close access to the river, the majestic theater is crossing the street.

Its a beautiful hotel but they upcharge everything once you are there. They gave me hell about my booking not having free breakfast but i literally had to go talk to the manager and show the proof! It was ridiculous because if they had my information in correctly it wouldn't have been an issue. The way they didn't believe me and needed me to show them it in person made me upset.

The location is great and there is a cozy bar on the ground floor. Other than that nothing positive. The facility is old and needs renovation. The breakfast we paid an extra 15$ for, only included coffee, juice, fruits, and muffin.
