The Vurpillat Beachfront Hotel

Parking options could have been better. They did provide parking for us at a cost.

The hotel itself is actually an old historical building. Each room has so much character and charm. Our particular room had a full kitchen along with an amazing beach front view. Literally, steps away from the sand. The building remains locked and needs a code to get into. There is no hotel parking, but they do give you a permit to park on the streets. With that being said, everything is walking distance. Bars, restaurants, cafes, there is no need to even leave. Lastly, Jay was an incredible! He gets 5 stars for himself lol. He was very accommodating and made sure we were taken care of. All in all, great experience and would highly recommend to someone looking for a beach front stay.

It was self check in and self check out. The room was a small studio. Tub was old and the hot water didn’t run at night. The bed was maybe a full sized bed. Super soft which is not comfortable felt like I was sinking. My whole body aches after two nights in that bed. The view was nice but at night time all kinds of drink kids out there yelling and since there is not front desk the noise lasted at least two hrs. There’s no elevator. The parking is in the street which is two blocks down or far from the hotel. The hotel is old need renovations asap. I wouldn’t stay there or recommended. Not for the price. Not even for the view.

This is a 100 year-old historic building that has been renovated inside and is absolutely gorgeous. It is a mix of people staying there for a couple nights and people who live there full-time about half-and-half. Everybody is very nice and it is right in front of the beach with volleyball courts, and people riding by on their electric bikes. Parking was very easy. They provide a parking pass for you so you can legally park in spots. I bet you could get a little bit tricky on holidays or the weekends but it’s a beautiful area very quiet and serene.

Location is the only thing good about this place. Its on the strand in front of the beach. The room for a solo traveler was too small. Im only 5ft 103lbs i could barely fit in the shower. The place is a Tort waiting to happen (for those of you in the legal profession) i did have to remove some items off the wall so they wouldnt fall on my head. Heavy mirrirs in a bathroom that 4 sqt ft i kept hitting my head on it. The throw rug was filthy so i had to werar shoes in the room. Some of the lights did not work. No hangers in the target stand alobe closet. The bed was very uncomfortable supported by plywood and pipes from home depot. The room had an electrical short so i could not use the coffee maker fridge and microwave. No cream or sugar for coffee. No extra towels. No service. Its like the placre has no management or housekeeping. I think whoever runs this place works remotely. No one is evet there. No instructions on how to use the TV. Furnishings were disorganized and not adaptable to the space. The window had a white shower curtain drape. All hardwood floors on 3 levels bring your earplugs lots of walking done on stairs and hallways with suitcases because there is no elevator.

We came for a beach volleyball tournament. I chose this hotel because it was walking distance to the Hermosa Pier. They have very friendly staff! If you choose to stay here, a few things to be aware of. It’s a very old hotel. The windows are single pane, and you have to keep them open because the room can get hot (no AC). You can hear the noises outside. For parking, they have a parking pass for street parking. If it’s a busy time, you may have to park several blocks away (like we did). The facilities are old. Our room had a full fridge and mini stove, if you like to cook. Someone before us burnt something and it smelled like burnt food all night. We decided not to come back and chose a newer hotel with AC and easy parking.

I didn't know what to expect staying at a 100 plus year old property but I was pleasantly surprised. It's right on the beach and parking is limited-- but the staff parked our car in the side lot for a fee of $20. This wouldn't be a good location to stay if you are going to be in and out as the staff will have to move the cars. It's walking distance from the pier and lots of restaurants. The room itself was very clean and spacious, although the windows were a little wonky when we tried to open them. There was a fan in the room and the bed was really comfortable! Would definitely stay here again!

Lovely property with great staff. They upgraded my mom and I to a larger room for Mother’s day which was so thoughtful. Parking is a little bit challenging, but we loved the location and walkability to town/the beach. Would love to come back again!

This unit had an absolutely fabulous view. Right outside the door was the strand, sand and the ocean. The room was very spacious including a kitchen and sitting room. This is a converted apartment building in which still needs a few upgrades, such as windows. Our window did not close completely and it was a windy evening. Also, this is not very handicapped assessable. There are steps entering into the building. And there was not any parking. But the owner accommodated us and provided a parking space next to the building. My husband uses a walker and this was great for us. We only stayed 1 night, but would have loved to stay longer.

Beautiful room!! Lovely windows, big closets. I checked in over phone but the host was warm and accommodating. Parking is a little tricky. Drive to the hotel and park in the lot, the get the pass and find a spot on the street.

The hotel is very run down and dirty. The location is great as you can walk to the beach but the bathroom is so filthy it’s hard to clean up afterwards. There are mirrors hiding giant holes in the walls, dust everywhere and the curtains are stained with orange streaks. While the view from the room is great towards the water, the overall feeling of the hotel is just icky.

Room was clean, great view of the beach! Checking in was easy. Loved the vintage items throughout the room and historical information about the property displayed in the lobby. Will definitely be coming back!

Staff was extremely nice and friendly. One thing to note that I didn’t read in any of the reviews is this isn’t a hotel per se, it’s more a hostel/airbnb/short-term apartment place where they don’t typically have staff at the front desk, so if that’s your cup of tea, this place is great. The location is phenomenal, right on the beach, easy access to restaurants, the boardwalk, main street, etc. For our trip, it didn’t quite match what we thought it would be based on the photos we saw. The building is pretty old so when we got to our room, the first thing I noticed was the smell, just that old musty smell that you associate with older buildings. After walking in and around the whole suite, we saw there were grass clippings all over the kitchen floor like someone walked through wet grass then walked around the room, there was nowhere to hang towels after you shower, the shower and bathroom were really small, toilet paper was in a basket behind you on the toilet since there is no space for a toilet paper holder, etc. Overall, if you’re traveling alone, this place could be great. Once you add in any extra people, it’s a bit small, especially since the bathroom is so small. Phenomenal location.

Really great customer service! I was amazed by how attentive they were. Everyone was really helpful to make sure I had the best time. The property was really nice and the room was spotless. I loved the beach view! Really felt like I was sleeping on the beach.

The hotel is in a wonderful location and appears to have history. However it was a pretty average stay. A bit disappointed that when I arrived just after 3 my room was not ready and that they didn’t have parking passes left. Overall condition needs some work and it wasn’t super clean.

Hotel is very old, maintenance has been deferred. No screens on windows and hard to open. Paint peeling in bathroom, shower not clean. My room had garbage dumpster outside. Would not stay here again.

Oceanfront room was clean and everything was awesome

Although this hotel is far from prefect it is a gem! It’s all about the location on Hermosa Beach this 100 year old building will offer no modern comfort but the room was very clean, the bed was comfortable too! Jay and staff will go above and beyond to make you happy! We will definitely return!

Room was very clean. Staff was very friendly. Enjoyed the natural light of the room and comfy linens. Coffee on the strand, people watching, reading my book…. Can’t wait to visit again!

This is as close to the beach as you can get. The suite was spacious and clean. Our children loved looking out the windows to see and hear the ocean. We would definitely recommend to anyone, the convenience, cleanliness, hospitality and location are top tier. They even allowed us to check out late! Overall, we were incredibly happy and can’t wait to stay again.

Historic boutique hotel right on The Strand. Lovely updated and modern inside appearance. I stayed in a small studio which was facing a side wall of an abandoned building so it was very quiet. The studio was well appointed. Two points of note. The mattress is larger than the bedframe so slides off overnight. Not a big problem but still strange. The shower is tiny with a rain shower head and the water pressure and temperature is low which was okay for me as it's an old (1923) building but some people may find that annoying. Overall a great location, close to everything Hermosa Beach has to offer and I would stay here again.

Beach access is second to none for the price. They even had a bunch of beach toys for our toddler so that was amazing. Room was great and the bathroom had an excellent shower for washing the sand off. We stayed in the two bedroom suite and that was great to be able to sleep in a different room than our little one. Not have an AC was no big deal, we kept our windows open pretty much every minute of the day and it cooled off quickly in the evening.

The room was lovely. The windows were rattling and not very sound proof, but they are waiting on new windows to arrive. The building is a work in progress, but it is in great condition for it's age and it is in a beautiful location. He was kind enough to let us leave our suitcases in the lobby while we roamed the beach waiting for our room to be available and he gave us a chance to check in earlier than the standard time.

We’ve stayed here several times before and overall it was charming. This time we were in a much smaller room, which was fine, except the shower was in great need of cosmetic repair and there were no screens on the (low to the ground) open windows, which is a bit dangerous

Location great. Jay was very nice. Room was quaint. Property on beach. Medium room stated as ocean view. This was very disappointing as there was not a water view. We looked out onto back street. Misleading advertisement.

The Vurp is a totally unique property with interesting history and friendly staff. Be aware that this is a historic property with vintage fixtures (original tub, for example) so if you want a luxury bathroom, this is not the place for you. However, our large studio room was recently renovated with fresh paint, furnishings, and linens. We found it very comfortable. The experience was totally charming and the location is unbeatable—right on the Strand and walkable to everything you need. We did have a bit of trouble finding the place but a call to our host sorted it out very quickly. Parking is a little tricky but we will definitely return.

The historic charm has been thoughtfully preserved, and the staff were incredibly kind and accommodating throughout my visit. While the room wasn’t very soundproof and got a bit warm, these were minor issues compared to the overall experience. Great place to stay on Hermosa Beach. The management was extremely responsive to any of our requests/needs. So many restaurants/bars within walking distance. Will definitely return!

Staff was awesome! Very friendly and inviting. We were flying in from Tennessee and Jay called to check on us because we were running behind. Rooms were bright, great natural light, and the beds were comfy. Enjoyed the little welcome treat when we arrived and the coffee in the morning! We’ll be back for sure!!!

Never have I felt so welcomed and looked after on vacation as I did at the Vurpillat! Thank you, Jay, for your wonderful hospitality. Another highlight of this charming hotel is its location, close to everything that beautiful Hermosa has to offer. I didn’t want to leave! Highly recommended.

The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and efficient

Vurpillat is right on the beach which we wanted. Nicole and the Owner were very nice and attentive! Very cool historic place with vintage furnishings. Our neighbors above us were terrible parents allowing their toddler to make constant loud noises and pushing/scraping things across the wood floor. This happened until after 10pm and again before 6am! Crazy. In the morning I did text the owner about it and he texted them but it did not change so the owner knocked on their door and spoke to them. It improved a bit until they left. The owner was very good about it all! The accomodations, the building and the area are great!

We enjoyed our stay at the Vurpillat. I have to admit that at first we were a little dubious about staying. The building - from the outside is in need of some repair - which the owners appear to be making. It is a very old building with a lot of interesting history, which Jay - the manager explained to us. Our room was very clean, the bed was comfortable as was the couch for sleeping. The proximity to the beach was perfect as well as the Hermosa Beach pier, restaurants and shops. Jay and Nicole were very accommodating and we had everything we needed for our stay. We would definitely stay there again.

Fabulous location! We had room 101, which overlooks the Strand. It was a little noisy on the weekend (which the very nice man who checked us in made us aware of beforehand), but the views and location made up for it. Room was clean, but just know that the hotel is older, which adds some charm to, I think! The man at the front was very helpful and accomodating, even delivering a corkscrew to our room one night when we forgot one. All in all, a great experience!

Fabulous historic building with an amazing location~! Across the sidewalk is the beach and a block away are so many restaurants, shopping choices and entertainment. The staff was wonderful and very accommodating. We enjoyed the beautiful room...and highly recommend.

It was right by the beach - perfect to see the sunset 🌞. Lot of restaurants and bars near the hotel.

Excellent place to stay! Beach access is right at the front door. There are many food and shopping options nearby. Everyone was super friendly and helpful. I am looking forward to the next trip.
