Comfort Inn Ottawa Starved Rock Area

Liked: Allowed cats Breakfast: nice variety both hot and cold, wish for longer hours esp weekdays Location: easy on/off to highway, easy to find, easy in/out, Quiet: parking lot pretty full and barely heard anything inside the hotel(or from outside either) Everyone I dealt with was pretty decent and accommodating. Most of my complaints were not their fault, and they did their best to fix it. Disappointed the manager wasn’t there. Didn’t like: During a four night stay I had to move three times. Room#1 stunk of smoke. Changed rooms before unloading the cart. Room#2 was not the Double King I had reserved, in fact I think it was a full, not even a queen size bed—and extremely uncomfortable. Didn’t realize how much until I was sore the next two mornings. Room#3 looked to be a double king size, (well laid out as the others were too), but the door when leaving had to be slammed shut or it would not lock and pop open. When entering, trying to deadbolt it required almost weightlifter strength—I showed this to the front desk guy and his reply was that the top lock worked and no one would get in. I politely told him don’t ever tell a woman traveling alone one lock is enough. There was a problem with the fridge (mini), once discovered it was taken care of quickly and easily. Overall, not quite the relaxing restful stay I was hoping for—though the nice clean pool helped a lot—and it could use some updates, I still would consider it a contender next trip to Ottawa/Starved Rock.

Nice & ok but glass door didn’t lock for safety, elevator broken , had to use steps , gabage outside overflowing outside hotel . But breakfast buffet was great 5 stars !

Convenient area with shopping and restaurants nearby and still quiet. Staff was not easily accessible and much of the time not at desk even when ringing bell for service, breakfast was okay, coffee had grounds in it and employee working there dressed more like a casual traveler, wasn't sure if he was an employee or not. Pool was nice and warm clean enough, hot tub jets were not working well. Do not like set up of toilet crammed in small room with tub and fan light together on one switch

The pool is out for 2 years according to their website, but was not such when I booked the room. The ice machines did not work ~ in the summer! There was a smell (dog urine?) in the room when we first walked in. I asked for a spray, was given a plug in, but smell stayed in the room. we had to ask for towels and put out our own trash. Housekeeping ladies were pleasant when asking for room supplies. Good variety for breakfast, very friendly attendant.

The pool was under maintenance and not open and the ice machine was broken, so no ice very disappointed. Also, when I got here you,Expedia gave me the rate of 126 and they told me their rate was 113.

Elevator was out of order so we had to carry our stuff to the second floor. Loose tiles in the floor of our room. Put things in the refrigerator freezer and they thawed. The staff were very friendly and apologized about the elevator.

We changed to Comfort Inn since last year our hotel pool was 70 degrees. Comfort Inn was warmer, but probably only 80. Unfortunately the hot tub was broken! These were our #1 reasons for choosing the hotel, so we weren't happy about that.

Overall it was clean and quiet. Right off the highway and close to many things. The pool was freezing and didn’t look too clean and the hot tub was broken along with the elevator. All unfortunate circumstances and yet plays into the quality of the stay.

The staff was nice, but the property itself is very rundown, front lobby smelled like cigarettes and wallpaper peeling off the walls. Ceiling tiles look like they had water damage and then the cleaning crew didn’t really clean the rooms very well. They left used soap in the shower and there was food underneath the Nightstand. For as much as it was, you would expect it to be a little nicer and cleaner

We are no strangers to budget hotels, but this one was a bit of a miss for us. I’ll start with the pros: the location is super convenient. It’s right off the highway, close to tons of shopping, grocery stores, restaurants. A 20 min ride to starved rock, and close to downtown Ottawa which we really enjoyed. Staff wasn’t unpleasant, but they were a bit difficult to track down. The cons: The hotel is older and definitely shows its age. It was semi-clean, but in a bit of disrepair. Beds were comfortable, but when I was making the bed the first morning, I found a bunch of food stains all over the inside of the comforter that were not from us. And not like stains that had been washed and just persisted -It had obviously not been washed since the last guest had been there. I requested a new blanket around 8am and they never brought one. We slept with just the sheets. The pool was a FREEZING and murky. My kids couldn’t see the pool toys they brought on the bottom of the pool even with goggles on. We are not picky with breakfast options, but felt the free breakfast was lacking compared to other budget hotels we have stayed at. We ended up going to a restaurant for our meals. The price was right, but in the future I’ll probably pay a bit more to stay somewhere else.

What a great hotel! Pet friendly, (very important !)rooms were immaculate, comfortable, shower/tub had great water pressure and for us tall people, the perfect height shower head! I give it five stars! AAAA++++! Location was perfect too, right by a gas station and easy access to the Interstate. If we're ever in the area again, we are staying there!

Staff was courteous, yes, very much so. **** The room.....well, the carpet had many large dark carpet spots spread across its surface - felt unclean. Drywall corners had chalky deep dents; AC had a loud buzz; We had decided to save ~ $30 dollars and not use the "other" very nice motel we had used in the Spring. (I'd like to think this is just the one bad room we unfortunately were given)

Found a bug bed on my sons diaper after staying the first night, the carpets had my kids feet black , refrigerator did not work phone did not work. The pool was disgusting smelt like mold with no chlorine I. It. The hot tub was filthy the water was cloudy. The ac hardly worked. The elevator was out I had to carry my bags and kids up a flight of stairs. I reported this to the people at the front and they acted like they weren’t able to help me

The pictures make this hotel look WAY nicer. The room was dingy. There is mold in each corner of the bathroom celing. The fridge was not cold nor could we get it cold. The hot tub was working but the water was icky. You couldnt see feet at the second step - super cloudy/dirty water. We would not stay here again.

There seems to be an epidemic in Ottawa. Both this hotel and the Hampton both have the whirlpool/spa broken. After a long day working on our house that burned down the first thing we want do is to relax in a spa but can't seem to do so in Ottawa. Secondly when we got up the next morning the dresser by the tv was covered in ants. There was at least 100 ants there and all food that was set there had to be thrown away.

Easy access to the highway and not a bad area to stay but the facility has been short on maintenance for quite some time. Room had floor tiles coming up and moving under foot and several areas where the walls were damaged. Cleanliness was not great either. Bedding and linens were clean and no bugs, but the curtains were disgusting and the smell through the building was of cigarette smoke and weed. Not what I want to smell all day.

Outdated, needs a major remodel. Not the cleanest either. Next time will spend the extra bucks to stay else where

Was definitely a little run down but good place for an overnight. Definitely had thin walls and doors.

The shower floor felt like we could fall through it, the tiles were loose upon entrance, the beds were not so comfortable nor the pillows. I found a long strand of hair in the sheets. The couch was not clean. It was a very average room, and thankfully we just needed to rest and checked out immediately after.

There had clearly been water damage in the bathroom area that hadn’t been fully or properly repaired. As I walked on the floor, you felt the floor move under your feet through the area. It didn’t feel safe on the second floor. No smells/odors. Everything was clean, but I felt so unsafe, I didn’t use the shower.

Elevator did not work. Toilet only would flush if you hold down lever for entire flush. Bed was hard and very uncomfortable.

The bathroom fan was very noisy along with a dog upstairs that was barking for half the night. The bathroom was small, with the sink outside of the bathroom, a short toilet, and low pressure water for the toilet. The pillows were half the size of normal pillows (like cut in half). The hot tub had low pressure jets. The staff was very hospitable. The room was very clean. The breakfast was very good, although the orange juice dispenser was broken.

Live music across the street will keep us from returning!

Check in attendant not good at all. He/entry smelled of pot. I left a complaint with the next front desk staff and took a card for the general manager to speak to her directly.

The staff made my family feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. We'll choose another hotel next time we're in town.

Very convenient off the expressway, close to several restaurants,gas stations and local convenience stores. David at the front desk made check-in fast and efficient. Helped me get directions to an event that I was attending later that day.

We arrived right at check-in time. The front desk person was talking like he was reading from a script, no welcome, very stoic. The room was ok, bed was made, there were towels and toilet paper. No ice bucket tho. The carpet was frayed on the edges and there was dust on the door handle, tops of things. Looks like they don't put much care into cleaning past the most noticeable. When we left, a different person was at the front desk and he was on a. cell phone, walking around talking, but we could tell it was a casual convo, not work-related. With as many choices as there are in this vicinity, we'll not return but go back to one we've stayed at before.

Comfort Inn Ottawa was clean, comfortable and a great location for our tavels. Like other reviews, we did have room key issues. We knew this ahead of time & kept trying until the door would unlock. There was a trick to having one person do the key and the other ready to turn the handle when the light turned green. The hardest door for it to work was to the pool. Note, get a room on the opposite side of the street on the weekends. The bar across the street has loud, live music. Breakfast had a variety of options including a waffle maker, eggs, sausage, bacon, yogurt, fruit drinks & baked goods. We would stay again.

This was by far the best hotel I stayed at during my trip. I was traveling with a trailer so it was important for me to find appropriate parking and they had an amazing setup for parking! Front desk was very helpful, everything was clean and orderly, beds were comfy, enjoyed the pool area, as well as breakfast the next morning... I would stay here again. It was great!

Nice place and the staff was very friendly. Only disappointment was breakfast. No fruit available and only white bread/bagels. Whole grain would be nice.

This hotel seemed to think of everything others don’t. There was tampons and pads for free in the women’s public bathroom. Restaurant style biscuits and gravy with real sausage for breakfast. Only reason they lost one star was it seemed the hot tub needed to be cleaned up, but I’m sure that’s an easy fix. Check in and check out was a breeze. I will look for this hotel on my next trip to Ottawa.

We stayed here because it was convenient in our travel for a wedding. It was in the right place. We had a bit of trouble with the keys not working... it took 5 tries to get the key cards to work, but Sarah did a great job of sticking to it until we got it solved. Breakfast was nice. Sausage & Biscuits, or Eggs & Sausage. Waffles too as well as most of the other standard things. Only complaint was the coffee was poor. It is a machine and the dark roast arrived as brown water. Stick to tea or juice.
