Abbey Hotel Roscommon

This was our son’s wedding venue and it was fabulous. The staff were amazing, facilities excellent and we had a very enjoyable, happy time. The food and service were excellent and the sun came out for the occasion. Highly recommend this hotel.

Staff friendly and nice, no water in room and leisure centre could use an update, particularly how slippy the tiles in changing rooms are

Pleasant stay. Hotel is old-style and decor a bit dated but has character. Rooms are spacious and hotel has all the amenities - bar, leisure centre etc. Breakfast overlooks the lovely Abbey out back. Staff was personable and friendly. Pricey for this time of year out-of-season for a solo traveller but same as every other property in Ireland with the current circumstances unfortunately and breakfast was included which is better than most. Good central location in the country for a stopover.

I loved the ambience of the hotel. It was also spotless. The bed was very comfortable and the room was set to a very high standard. Staff were very pleasant at reception and also in the bar/bistro. The swimming pool was a plus.

We stopped here for a night to break up our trip across the country and we’re so glad we did. The rooms are very roomy and the lap pool was great. Dinner and breakfast were splendid.

Just back from 4 nights here as a family of 4 We had a great time pool facilities were amazing and food was delicious. Would definitely recommend

Check-in was slow because a huge party arrived at the same time; but in all other respects the staff were very helpful. The bar food and the breakfast both good, nice big room with bath and shower, and central location, close to the station and with a big car park. Excellent value.

We had a lovely time , very comfortable warm hotel. Very nice breakfast. Staff especially in the bar very attentive and lovely. My one criticism is the bar menu, very miminalistic. Would we stay there again definitely.

The atmosphere was amazing as was the decor. Our room was spacious and very clean. We had a lovely view of the Old Friary from our bedroom window. Staff were helpful and friendly. It was good value for money and a stunning well decorated motel.

Our third time at The Abbey Hotel. Our first time was in 2022 and it was just so charming we extended our stay to 7 nights. The lounge, meals and staff were wonderful as was our king bed room . Later on the same trip we met up with our children and returned to the Abbey which we were given a dingy room in need of refurbishing and felt a bit embarrassed as we told our adult children how wonderful it was. Last night was our 3rd stay and what a disappointment. I enquired if there were any king rooms available, mentioned we were return customers and I was told we were “already situated in a single-double room and all king rooms were occupied.” Okay… we dined in the extremely cozy bar, which we love and the food as always was very good. However the hotel room needed some attention. The pillows were flat and hard, towels thin and small and the furniture was in poor condition, dirty and stained. Completely unacceptable and easily ratified. Staff at the breakfast room were stoical. I mentioned our issues and very very poor night’s sleep to reception, who was apologetic and offered us an upgrade if we returned. Basically we have paid for 3 nights in unacceptable accommodations, which resemble a 2.5-3 star room rather than a 4 star which we paid. We are very saddened by this as we do love the location and personal touches of the hotel. We are very loyal clients and creatures of habit. We desperately wanted the Abbey Hotel to be a return place. Unfortunately the loyalty only ran one way

Old but well kept facility with lots of history.Efficient and friendly staff.

Our favorite hotel of our trip! Food was excellent! Bed was very comfortable! Our view was breathtaking and having our own castle on the grounds was an additional bonus!! We will definitely stay here again on our next trip!

The Abbey Hotel was a cute little place and had a lot of charm. The room was much larger than i expected for a European hotel. They are undergoing some renovations which will hopefully update the wear and tear without losing the charm. The property around the hotel is beautiful!

I have found that dinner in the bar is sometimes amazing and sometimes not, it's a bit hit and miss unfortunately. It was not obvious when I booked the room via Expedia but the bed was a smallish double, thankfully the hotel kindly upgraded us to a larger bed. I wish Expedia would make the size of bed more clear when booking.

This hotel is definitely no where near a 4star hotel the toilet didn’t flush properly the bathroom was dated the double bed was the smallest double bed I ever stayed in in a hotel the breakfast was poor quality and the restraint is overpriced and dated whole hotel needs to be modernised if I was to put a price on a room per night I would max it a €50 breakfast included

My room was situated at the end of a service corridor for the kitchen. Not the best place, lots of noise early morning.

We loved the setting - the Abbey ruins from the 1200's were beautiful and fascinating. I loved the view of them from the dining room windows. The food was excellent, too. Don't miss the Tien of smoked chicken starter. The room was lovely, as well.

This was a nice quiet hotel. A nice break in our trip to relax a little. Comfortable beds and a bath tub which I so enjoyed. There breakfast was really good as well.

Edmund the Valet at the Abbey saved us by fixing our rental car when it had problems. He was so polite and helpful like all of the staff there. The room was magnificent. The breakfast was good too!

Excellent stay in The Abbey. Large and cosy family room with a lovely view over Roscommon Abbey. The leisure centre was lovely and ideal for small kids. Staff were all so friendly and location was perfect.

Poor communication of the staff feels like they are avoiding the customer. None of them in the breakfast area asked it was okay/ enjoyed. There was not enough options for breakfast. 1st night twice fire alarm went off and it lasted 20-35. E all came out of the building and were standing outside. After the 2nd episode the staff who reset the alarm responded to a customer’s question and said it was faulty. It is a nice place to stay. If the communication improves they can make this place as a wonderful holiday destination.

I booked 2 rooms at the Abbey Hotel for 5 nights for my elderly parents and my disabled wife who is in a wheelchair. I rang the Hotel 5 to 6 weeks before our stay to make sure everything was in order regarding wheelchair accessible room for my wife and was assured everything was ok. Upon arrival went to check in and given room when we went up to the room it was not accessible and I returned to reception where I was told there had been a mistake and the accessible room would be ready the next morning and that we would have to stay in the allocated room for the night and would be moved the next day as early as possible. So we spent the night in an unsuitable room having to take my wife up and down several times to use the disabled toilet in the lobby. The next day our room wasn’t ready until 14.45 which meant we had to spend most of that day waiting to change to a suitable room. The rest of our stay was ok but the first 2 days were extremely disappointing and stressful and at no point were we offered any discount on our stay although it was the hotel’s fault we were not even a complimentary meal which I thought would have been the least they could do

Abbey hotel was a pleasant surprise. Walking through through the ruins and experiencing the history of the area was a life experience. It is definitely worth going out of you way to stay there

We found the Abbey Hotel Roscommon online and booked a three day break but when we got there it was just so relaxing, homely and an exquisite setting. Although the lift was out of order when we arrived for a few hours, we soon forgot about that and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. Thoroughly recommend it.

The hotel is located in the heart of the town. Town center and local attractions are all within walking distance. Down sides hotel menu for restaurant a little bit lacking in choices All in all though a lovely quite and relaxing place to be.

We spent two very pleasant night's here and would gladly stay again and recommend to others. Staff are very welcoming and professional and the hotel is well located for a stroll into the town centre or exploring the surrounding area by car.Also the local golf club is a short drive away if one is so inclined.

Thisnis our second time at this hotel and time has stood still. The hotel has great staff and service but is probably in need of a revamp. The breakfast is one of the poorest i have had selection wise but the little selection they had was of good quality. The pool and leisure facilites are good and the restaurant food was top notch.

Lovely atmosphere and great food

Loved our stay and breakfast was amazing!

I will not stay here again, this is not a 9.0 rating as advertised. The room was super old, the bed was single and dinner was awful. The steak was the worst one I have eaten in my life and paid 92 euros for two people for dinner.

This was very good, across the board, better than some of the flashier hotels in good locations in Dublin. It is tastefully decorated, and the dining experience is good. We loved the atmosphere in the pub/dining area. Local people seem to go there for a night out, and that's a good sign and we enjoyed participating -- some nice conversations.

Very disappointing and a stretch to class it as a 4 star. First room we were given you had to pass through kitchen service halls and the bed itself had a small double. I believe I had booked an Executive double which said they came with a 6ft bed and clearly this wasn’t. They did move us straight away but it felt like it set the tone for the stay. The rest of the hotel and common areas felt tired and in need of updating. Having booked a B&B rate it also felt a bit cheap to have to pay extra if you wanted a cappuccino or latte. I’m afraid I could not recommend.
