It’s a very nice hotel …off peak. When it’s crowded it’s not that great and very expensive. The staff is lovely and gardens are beautiful. The air conditioners in the fitness center and in our room were terrible. Our room was 78f. The equipment at the fitness center was also sub par-no spin bike-old school bike w lousy seat that slants forward and three of four treadmills were out of service. The temperature was dangerous even with the added little fan.

Nothing at all not to like. The hotel was just as we hoped and expected it to be. Service is outstanding and any queries are dealt with quickly and professionally. The hotel location is amazing and allows easy access to the harbour area and downtown. The pool area is superb and rarely busy.

Historic building. The pool/change rooms are beautiful. The gym is fairly well equipped although small. Did not have time to go to the newly renovated Bengal for breakfast but it looks GORGEOUS. Amazing views, perfect location, hard not to want to stay here.

For a hotel like Fairmont, I expected much better. On the corridors I saw used food plates with leftover food lying for days. It came to a point that I can smell. I had to go to front desk and ask them to clean. Well !! they picked them, and again next day another room left their used food outside, which was not picked in 12 hrs.

We thought this would be a real treat staying here but it turned out to be an expensive stay in a pretty average hotel. The robes were over washed cotton ones that I would throw away at home. We paid upfront through Expedia for two rooms and my card was charged $642 after we left and I have called several times to ask why and was told it was an error and my card would be credited, which has not happened and I have had to dispute it with my credit card company. The women’s change room for the pool and gym was absolutely disgusting. Towels piled high on the floor and just generally gross. Clearly they do not have staff to keep the area clean and tidy and I can only assume they clean it once in the morning and then that’s it. By the end of the day it was a disaster area. The staff we dealt with were really fantastic and no complaints there. I had a fantasy to spend my retirement years touring the various fairmont hotels. This stay definitely turned me off that idea.

I reserved and paid for a City View room with 2 double beds for myself, my daughter and my mother (who was celebrating her 70th birthday). When we arrived, we were given a very small room with frosted windows. I was curious as to why the windows were frosted, so I opened them to discover that we were facing the hotel’s loading dock and parking lot. Then the constant sound of trucks beeping and crates slamming began. I went to speak to the lady at the front desk, and was told that our room was in fact a City View room, and that there was nothing else available for the first night, but that we would be able to get a different room for the following two nights. Not ideal, but anything would be better than what we were originally given. The new room was also a City View room, but had 2 queen beds, and a sitting area, which was nice. However, the hotel is old, and so the bathrooms are very tight, and things like faucets and drains either don’t work well, or not at all. The room was also not the cleanest. Dusty and the carpets were dirty. My daughter’s socks were black after walking around on the floor for a couple of hours. I have been a very loyal client of Fairmont Hotels for many years, but am losing my love for the brand. I have found that Fairmont is riding on the coattails of their history and previous success, and not delivering service to maintain that success. I have found this to be the case at The Empress, and the Jasper Park Lodge. Would not stay here again.

This hotel fell far below expectations, especially given its Michelin recommendation. Our room was noticeably dirty, with stains throughout and a sink that hadn’t been properly cleaned. Even more concerning, the soap dispenser was empty upon arrival—clearly not refilled after the previous guest. We requested soap three separate times and never received it. The lack of basic cleanliness and disregard for simple guest requests is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the hotel’s standards.

The only reason for the poor rating is there is no sound proofing here and we had a terrible sleep. You can hear everyone walking down the hallway and their conversations at all and every noise from outside all night even people talking for a hotel of this calibre they should invest more in soundproofing.

The property was nice, safe, and beautiful but our room’s heating/cooling system made a loud noise each time it turned off. It was loud enough to wake me up throughout the night. There was also paint bubbles around the system’s wood case which might be either a bad paint job or possibly the beginnings of mold??

Give us a Room with a view other than concrete buildings, and annex rooftops and utility equipment blocking any decent view. Or tell us at checkin so we can upgrade BEFORE moving in. What we got was hardly a “city view”! We are 80 years old and didn’t have the energy to insist and wait on a room with a decent view. So disappointing for our once in a lifetime stay at the Empress!

Check in process was not very smooth - had to stand in line twice because I never received a text with my room number when we prechecked in. Room didn't have robes or slippers for pool area - housekeeping remedied that quickly, though. Splurged and got a "harbor view King", and the "harbor view" was technically there, but we were on the second floor so it was mostly a tree view.

The room was fine. Nothing exceptional though. It was a fancy old school hotel. But, what really made the stay fun was the warmth and the friendliness of the staff. From the maids to the doorman. Everyone, was on the same page... trying to make our stay special.

I want to give a shout out to the Fairmont Empress and the staff and specifically Mark . I accidentally booked a non redundable trip for 1 night for the wrong night. Mark and the staff worked with Expedia to resolve the issue and allow my friend and I to atay at the hotel as intended within our budget for our West Coast bucket list trip. It really made our trip that Mark and the Fairmont Staff csme through and resolved the issue even though theybwere under no obligation to do so as i made the booking mistake.

I cannot rave our trip and the hotel enough: we were treated like royalty every second, I’ve never experienced service like this, and I travel often. Well, well worth the price. Beautiful hotel. Front desk staff was probably my only ding. Check in and out was subpar for a luxury hotel. I understand having to wait but if you see a guest standing there for a period of time and aren’t assisting another guest just be polite, acknowledge our presence and say I’ll be right with you. Subpar experiences like this bookended our otherwise fine stay.

The hotel is beautiful, and it could be that due to the marathon the hotel was overly busy and unable to meet all demands, but I ran into issues with room service (my breakfast was 30 minutes late meaning no time to eat before heading to the marathon and I could not reach in room dining by phone) and parking (my truck does not fit in the underground lot so I was forced to pay for valet pricing which left my car in the front loop all day, and they were very busy and hard to find at times). The front staff did address these issues for me upon check out, but it was frustrating given the price paid. I recommend indicating on your website that self serve parking has a height limit of 6’3”. That aside, the room was very comfortable, lovely bed, with plenty of space for my belongings.

Fantastic location, and excellent service. Like all Fairmont's, the Empress has the same service we’ve come to expect, but the added location makes it even better. Would definitely recommend to anyone coming to Victoria to stay here. I think it’s one of the most famous hotels in Victoria.

Wonderful stay at the historic Fairmont Empress. It has been a while since we had such a pleasant stay. All interactions with staff were friendly, we were welcomed from the Coho ferry with an early check-in. Breakfast was prepared well, and our server was excellent. We enjoyed the historical photos and early 1900's architecture.

This is an older hotel that has been beautifully maintained and updated. I stayed here 3 years ago and it seemed even more beautiful this stay with the renovated bar and updated adjacent Asian restaurant. Our room was small but very clean and included more amenities than we expected or needed. And you cannot beat the location- you can walk just about everywhere. The one disappointment is how the Yes, it’s pricey but well worth the splurge.
