Renovations in the area make for a louder environment than usual, but having been there in the past, it should get quiet again - when they’re done. Might be the coolest bar in Texas! The drinks are cold and refreshing, the bar staff is friendly, and everyone’s having a great time. The bar is located close to the reception area, and just across the way from the hotel’s garden. Smoking is allowed on the bar patio. The bar has an intimate ambiance and a nice upstairs area where you can drink at a higher elevation. Easy access to the bar from the rooms above, via stairs or one of two elevators. Bar opens at 11AM, so check in, drop your bags in your room, and head to the bar for some relaxing beverages! You can enjoy a coffee at the Menger’s sister property, The Crockett Hotel, in the morning with a short walk to their cafe before settling in at The Menger Bar later.

Stayed here for long weeekend. The service is amazing. The room was very clean bed was comfortable. Only downfall is the walls are thin you here doors clothes people talking and so on. This is a very old hotel so it’s understandable. The location no can not be beat. You are right next to the Alamo and it sits on the square. Also pool area is actually on the ground not roof and is very nice

The Menger never disappoints. Our room was comfortable and clean, with a balcony as a bonus. The new pedestrian area in front of the hotel is very nice. A 1st-time guest should verify the address for the valet. My one complaint is that the $49 valet fee is quite high.

This is a beautiful, historic hotel. I really enjoyed my stay. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The pool was fantastic. The location is excellent. But you are making some concessions when you stay at a hotel like this; the bathroom was somewhat cramped and the shower controls hard to access because they were blocked by the vanity. Minor inconveniences in my opinion. I look forward to coming back for another stay.

Beautiful hotel. Really impressive lobby area. My one criticism has to do with the interior garden area. This is a great place to sit but it baffles me why you allow smoking in this area. Why cater to a small percentage of guests at the expense of all others? The smell of the smoking gets trapped by the four surrounding walls. As soon as a smoker came out, I had to leave the area.

The location is excellent for site seeing. Located next to the Riverwalk Mall. The rooms were nice with very comfortable beds. Clean. Pool area is nice, kid friendly. The A/C was ok, but you cannot adjust the thermostat lower 65 if you like it cold. Room seemed a little stuffy but it was 100F outside. there was a note during check in in regards to room temps. Overall I will stay here again.

We stayed at the hotel this past weekend and most things about the hotel we liked . The location was excellent and the pool area was nice. . What we didn’t like was the parking $49 a day to park because you had to valet or pay to park in the public parking area. The wording is very confusing and there is a tow truck that patrols very frequently. Just go ahead and charge parking in the price of the hotel. That way people know what to expect

The hotel is beautiful and was fun to visit. The room was dusty. The future had splatter on the base of the dresser that no one could be bothered to clean up. The tub was flaking off the coating of paint. There was no daily room service. For the nightly charge you would expect four or five stars service not two star service.

The common areas of the hotel are lovely and it's location is perfect. However, the room itself was dirty. There was dust on all surfaces, ceiling fan, baseboards, etc. The carpet was dirty, turning socks and bare feet brown with filth. The chest of drawers was visibly broken and unusable. I expected better quality from a hotel that has such a high reputation and history.

Beautiful, historic hotel. I picked this hotel based on reviews and the photos. I loved the uniqueness of the building. After I booked I began to read about all of the history involved and enjoyed that as well. My room could have been cleaner but I just went with it because it is an old building. I highly recommend it for the walking aspect, you are located next door to the alamo and a short walk to the riverwalk and mall.

While the Menger Hotel exudes historic charm and old-world glamour, we couldn’t help but wonder why such a treasured landmark has been allowed to fall into disrepair. We expected quirks due to its age, like smaller rooms and tight bathrooms, which are understandable given heritage preservation requirements. However, what was less forgivable was the lack of cleanliness. Our bathroom still bore traces of previous guests, the historical displays were dusty and neglected, and the hotel bar had a layer of dust that may have been as old as the bullet holes in the wall left by Teddy Roosevelt. Additionally, housekeeping is not a daily service—there was a sign in our bathroom stating that a complimentary cleaning would only be available after the third night. For a hotel steeped in such rich history, we expected better upkeep and attention to detail.

From the photos they uploaded to the website, I was expecting a little more. The location was great, but the room and bathroom were quite small for two people. The hotel is beautiful, and I would stay again. It is conventionally located 2 minutes from the Riverwalk and 3 minutes to the Alamo. The rooms were very clean, but we stayed in the older part of the hotel, and it could use a bit up maintenance in the bathroom. Our "1" room was actually two rooms joined at a doorway, that had no door. One room had Queen bed and the closet; 2nd one had Queen bed and the bathroom attached. You had to walk up a step to get into the bathroom, and the shower curtain was not fit properly for the very small bathroom. Borth rooms had TV, dressers, desk side table, cleaning fans, their own HVAC controls and lamps. the front desk staff was where they were lacking. Seemed to have issues on credit cards and other situations. However, in the end we had a great time in San Antonio, and I would recommend it to everyone.

This is a nice hotel, and the employees have been very helpful and friendly. Our room is spotless and the beds are comfy. My issues are: We requested a balcony room and are now sorry we did. The noise level from the pool was crazy last night. My bad for asking for a balcony room. The AC situation is rough. Old hotel, old AC. The water pressure in the shower was sad. Other than those things, it’s been a nice stay.

Beautiful historic hotel with lots of charm. The a/c struggled to cool the room, and the shower alternated between ice cold and blistering hot, as the water wasn’t mixing, but rather taking turns. With small kids, this was a huge problem. Also, there were a lot of weird noises all night long (read into that what you will). Also, a bullet hole in the glass outside the elevator waiting area was a little strange…

I loved the atmosphere and the look along the place , but someone was in my room left a set of keys and I talked to manager and all they had today was sorry , I even gave them the set of keys. I had asked for a discount cuz it made me feel very unsafe but she was like I can’t help you !

The check in service was horrible. We got there, and the check in clerk was so dismissive, she barely looked at us, looked really uninterested in giving us directions and seemed like we weren’t really welcomed. I don’t know if it was my last name or how we looked or anything in that sorts. The hotel was amazing, a lot of history, at first it did give me a sense of unease, but after a while you get used to it. AC was great, clean and the valley service was great!

Nice property, great location. Noisy hallways (staff uses speakerphones/2-way devices early in the morning. Last da y there I had 1pm late checkout, and the Do Not Disturb sign on my door. Housekeeping knocked 3 different times in the morning - the last person said she was "The Supervisor" - not sure what that meant, except perhaps that even the supervisor could care less.

We liked the location next to Riverwalk and Alamo. Check in was frustrating- clerks sent us to wrong elevator and section of hotel. When asked was directed there again until we disputed that. Someone finally sent us to the right location (right next to valet stand where we started). No room service 1st day - came back after 5 and around 6 was asked if I wanted it - too late for us - tired after being out in heat all day. Next day got all the supplies we needed for room early so appreciated that. Was told there was a sign we could have hung to get earlier room service. Who knew? Two grandchildren enjoyed the pool and we enjoyed convenience of Menger Bar for late meal.

Upon walking in, super cool hotel. As far as sleep, we got none. It was so hot in the room no matter what we did & we could hear every single person outside the halls. The sounds, I expected, but the heat was unbearable. Slept maybe a total of 6 hours the whole weekend. Also, I've never been met with a more mono toned unpleasant hotel front desk clerk. Super straight to the point & just wanted to get us on our way. Then when we checked out, I meant to bring up our issues once I was asked "how was your stay" except she never asked. Once again, she was just ready to get us out of there. Won't be staying here again.

The hotel is awesome but all the street construction, many pedestrians, and the one way streets around the Alamo, Riverwalk, and hotel makes getting to the valet parking confusing and difficult. Once you figure it out it’s okay, but you’ll be going in circles trying to figure it out. Valet parking guys are awesome.

I have seen some reviews as of late, saying do not valet park, to expensive, to many choices nearby. I disagree, the parking is super convenient and considering the large amount of construction going on at the Alamo, on top of a rainy long weekend, worth the $.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was nice, quiet, and walkable to the river walk and literally right next door to the Alamo. If you stay here get the address to the entrance (where the valet is) from the hotel in advance. The address online will take you to a spot that inaccessible by car.

Valet parting was easy. Follow the directions on the website to get there. Breakfast staff was not very attentive as they were used to having most eat off the buffet. We ate a la carte so were kind of ignored.

Got a caeser salad in the restaurant -carry out. $26 dollars. VERY expensive and it was pitiful and tiny. Very little meat, wilted and overall “zero ” on a scale of 1-10. Called the manager-they did nothing to rectify.

My stay was okay although I love the design of the hotel from the lobby always has a unique lovely smell and the elegance of the bottom floor. Food at the colonial could’ve been better at the buffet for breakfast like the eggs and pancakes were of very poor quality. Definitely just paid for convenience of the location but it was a nice getaway.
