The Britannia Hotel on Portland Street is located just around the corner from Manchester’s bus station and close to Piccadilly Train Station, on a busy main road opposite the Mercure. From the outside, and especially on arrival, the large chandelier in the entrance gives the impression of a grand, historic hotel. However, this initial impression quickly changes once you approach the check-in area. Check-in is handled at a desk with a protection glass. The process is fairly basic and functional rather than welcoming, and the area itself feels more like a budget transit hotel than a grand city centre stay. I stayed in a single room (Room 40), which was quite small. It featured a single bed, a basic open wardrobe with around six hangers, a heater, and a fan. There was a bedside lamp and a framed photograph of a city scene near the city library with the arches. The room also had a window overlooking the street and bus station area. It was reasonably quiet with the window closed, but with it open you could clearly hear the constant hum of buses outside. The bathroom was very basic and showed its age. It included hand soap and body wash, but little else. The shower curtain did not fully prevent water from escaping, so the bathroom floor near the door became wet after use. Overall, the bathroom felt dated and in need of refurbishment. The room also included a small coffee-making facility with a single cup. The television was slightly misaligned and the bedside lamp did not work

Nice place for what you pay for right in centre of Manchester warn decor an sound proofing could do with improvement but perfectly good for a base to explore the city. Was given a corner room with steps to the ensuite.

I have stayed at the Brittania hotel countless times now when I travel up from Cornwall for hospital appointments. The hotel is very clean tidy and the staff are very polite and helpful. Being just five minutes walk from Manchester Piccadilly station. It’s ideal. The hotel also has a bar and restaurant on the ground floor Called rogue the food is brilliant the atmosphere is fantastic and it is really reasonably priced. I always stay here now at least once a month or more highly recommended
