Beautiful hotel in an amazing city! The van was waiting for us at the parking garage when we drove up and took us right to the hotel for two nights. The parking garage is Garage Damasco. Google it to see where to take your car. You cannot drive in the city! I would not walk to the hotel initially with your luggage because it’s hard to find the first time. We checked into the room and wandered the town for a bit before we came back to use the thermal bath. The temperature was great as it was more like bathwater than steaming hot. We also were able to use the steam and dry saunas. The room was large and had plenty of room in it. The air conditioning had not been turned on yet, but there was enough of a breeze that it was comfortable in the room. There are lots of steps to all the rooms, but if you have seen the city, you are aware of that. Just take your time. The check in was easy and the breakfast had plenty to eat on the buffet but was more bread than anything else. They did have some meats and boiled eggs for protein. The beds were very comfortable and it was a great stay in a wonderful city.

Exquisite sorings to mind. And the room i stayed in, actually several minutes from the main hotel was magical. Genuine sassi cave, but kept immaculate by the wonderful cleaning staff on a daily basis. The hotel has its own spa, which i took advantage of a few times, although you have to pay 25 euros extra - this really should be free for someone like me that was staying for 8 days. The breakfast room offerred good quality and variety with attentive waiting staff. I overall had a very magical and happy experience staying at this special hotel in the centre of the Sassi. If you want an incredible and memorable lunch or dinner Nicchia nel sasso is where you want to head to and Nicola. If you want an authentic pizza head to Altra Pizza and enjoy😁

The service was great. We parked at the parking lot recommended by the hotel, and there was a free shuttle that took us to the hotel. We stayed in a separate room, which had a bit of a damp smell. The room was about a 5-minute walk from the reception and the breakfast/spa area — it took a few time to remember the route. But getting lost in Matera is also a kind of romance.

Extremely beautiful view and unique place however they charged us for using the swimming pools which is unusual and they didn’t tell us about this when we wanted to go in, during check out we found out that we had to pay. Expedia also doesn’t mention that the pool is 18+ and my twelve year old daughter was really looking forward to it and was later distressed when we were told that it was only for adults.

Ottima posizione per alloggiare all'interno della zona a traffico limitato nel cuore dei sassi. Il garage consigliato per parcheggiare l'auto per due notti e' comodissimo e a 5 minuti a piedi. In ogni caso c'e' una navetta offerta dall'hotel che e' stata chiamata direttamente dal personale del garage. Comoda per non fare troppe scale con i bagagli. Matera e' magica. Visitare i sassi e' molto suggestivo, tutto e' a pochi minuti a piedi, ma a volte faticoso per i tanti scalini. Pero' ne vale la pena. L'hotel ha stanze molto carine a mo' di grotta ma con le dovute comodita' e pulizia. Altro aspetto positivo e' la spa, che pero' consiglio di evitare di sabato. Non era molto rilassante con le tante persone che parlavano alta voce tra loro. Peccato. Colazione offerta buona e abbondante. Consigliatissimo!!!

Nous avons passé deux nuits sur Matera. L’hôtel est très bien situé nous avions une belle vue sur Mattera dès le réveil. Nous avons pu nous balader dans la ville à pied. L’hôtel nous a proposé un parking payant pour garer la voiture. Une navette était à notre disposition pour aller chercher la voiture avec nos bagages. Pleins de restaurants à proximité de l’hôtel. L’accès au spa est payant, mais je vous invite à y aller car il vaut le détour. Le petit déjeuner est très varié. Le personnel était très accueillant et serviable. Une personne parlant français a pu répondre à nos demandes.

Overall we were happy with our room. The location was great. The pool & spa was brillant and well worth the money. The only issue would be that the bathroom was looking a bit tired. The toilet seat was broken and the silicone needs replacing around the bath.

Fantastic hotel located in the Sassy of Matera. It’s definitely worth booking a room with a balcony/city view as the view is fantastic. The room was clean enough but you’re staying in a cave so it’s not 100% pristine but more than acceptable. The bed wasn’t that comfortable but we slept well after all the walking around the city. The bathroom had a separate shower and bath unit with water jets which was great. The included continental breakfast was lovely offering a mixture of options and the staff were helpful and polite. There are a number of restaurants and shops nearby and you’re in the heart of the sassy but cars can still drive right up to the entrance steps. The spa is brilliant. Swimming and hydro pools as well as steam and sauna rooms are available. Definitely worth a visit especially to escape the heat in the afternoon. Even the locals confirmed that this is the best spa in Matera. We loved our stay here.

Rooms all smelled. First one that we were in was unbearable, moldy. Therme was very nice. Something was leaking in the bathroom and flooding the floor. You seemingly had control of the thermostat, but I had it set at 15c, and the room was at 21c all night, which in a room that you can’t open windows felt pretty claustrophobic. Bed wasn’t very comfortable and the pillows were horrendous. Staff was nice enough. Breakfast was mediocre by Italian hotel standards.

The dirt from the cave sifted down onto the bed and floor. Bathroom was cramped. Barely able to fit through the shower door. Mold on the bathroom ceiling was disquieting. For a place that sells themselves on their service, their service was TERRIBLE! View was magnificent! Location was unbeatable! Breakfast was really good. Maneuvering up and down stairs was very difficult so be aware!

Tired , dusty, spa is extra cost on top of the room cost . TV didn’t work we ask for it to be fixed however they were too busy with groups . Dirty shower screen . More stairs than the Spanish Steps in Rome . Pity because the historical centre is wonderful . The hotel is over rated .

Everything was lovely. The rooms are very dark so brighter lighting especially around the sink area would be helpful. The air conditioning never reached the temperature selected therefore the room was warmer than we would've liked. the staff are very helpful and friendly. The location is great, away from the busier side of the old city but easy to access if you wanted to.

Beautiful hotel unfortunately our room was quite noisy. There was building work above the room until about 8 pm and in the morning because our room was underneath the road we could hear suitcases being pulled and cars from 5:45 am. We were in room two suggest you avoid that room. We did however enjoy our stay buffet breakfast in the morning was great large of selection food We paid extra for the thermal rooms and the underground cave swimming pool which was fabulous. Highly recommend the experience. It cost €25 each for 90 minutes. Hotel is in a great location right inside Sissi the old city. Highly recommend going into Matera 😀 a fantastic experience and would recommend staying overnight and not just going for the day

We stayed in Junior Suite #84, located in the dependance, a separate building from the main hotel. The room was incredibly unique — the bathroom was built right into the cave, and the overall aesthetic was both historic and beautiful. Best of all, the private terrace offered absolutely stunning views of Matera. A true highlight of our stay was the underground thermal spa in the main hotel — a magical, almost otherworldly experience not to be missed. That said, we did encounter a significant issue with the air conditioning. The room temperature could not be set below 77°F (25°C), and despite our complaints, we were told that was just how the system worked. Unfortunately, this made the room uncomfortably warm at night, and we didn’t sleep well for two nights. We requested a fan, but it never arrived. While we appreciated that the hotel comped our spa charges, the lack of resolution around the AC was disappointing. All in all, the setting and design are unforgettable, but in the summer heat, the climate control may be a deal-breaker for some guests.

Unique hotel in an amazing location. Lots of walking but it is the only way to see Matera. I had 3 requests when I made my reservation a few weeks ago and none of those simple requests were met upon arrival. The night front desk employees (Antonio) were NOT welcoming, hospitable or helpful. Did not even offer to take the luggage to the room. The daytime front desk person, Elena?, was the able to switch our room to be next door to our children the next day without hesitation. Despite the unfriendly attitude of the other front desk staff, the hotel offers a interesting experience

The Room was fa away from the lobby and the break fast. A 5min walk throught the City. The problem was that the promised to help us with the suitcases, but they never showed up to this far away location. Matera is full of stairs and we have to carried them ourself.

Incredible and beautiful caves restored and renovated into an amazing and unique accomodation experience. Unfortunately, the man at the front desk was so unpleasant and cranky it marred the overall experience. He treated us so unkindly - he was abrupt and unhelpful. The room was beautiful, the pools in the caves were a wonderful experience and the breakfast was nice as were the wait staff. Note that it is a difficult walk from the station/ bus stop with heavy suitcases you must carry up and down many stairs.

The property is nice, but not the service. The hotel promised to assist us with our luggage from the parking, but they didn't answer the phone for a long time. It was difficult to drag our havy bags by ourselves when we came with children. There was no apology, just "O we have three lines here."..Really? Parking owner knew about this hotel and knew they wouldn't answer, just empty promises. If you want to stay with people who care, you should go to another hotel.

Gorgeous cave rooms, built vertically from bottom of the stassi to the top level. Eve to ator is available, but you'll still have steps & possibly a bit of a walk to your room. No one to help with luggage when we checked in & out. Reception could have been more helpful in orienting us upon arrival vis a vis parking & the shuttle service the hotel provides. If you drive, ask about parking & the shuttle in advance. Hotel should be more helpful with individual travellers.

Fabulous hotel. Don't miss the thermal baths! Excellent staff. Extensive breakfast buffet with many local specialties to try. My only warning is do not try to walk there with your luggage. You will never find it. GPS does not work for walking in the old city because some "streets," are barely alleys and are ABOVE others snd almost all are without signage , so you will be told to turn left on a street that you cannot see because it is 30 feet below you. Instead take a taxi from the bus or train station, and when you realize there are no taxis waiting at the stations, call the hotel and they will send one. Matera is a wonderful otherworldly place , and this is a great unique hotel.

Mooie locatie midden in de Sassi van Matera. Alle toeristische hotspots zijn op loopafstand. De kamer zag er ruim en netjes uit. Het ontbijt was zeer uitgebreid en lekker.

The property is absolutely wonderful. Rooms are big enough for a 2 night stay. Wasn't a fan of shower over the bath as bath was quite high. Buffet breakfast had plenty to offer but no cooked eggs/bacon ie scrambled or fried. Location is great as walking distance to just about everything. Enjoyed the Thermae....something different! Loved our stay

Great location. Large unique, comfortable room. Nice shower. One great benefit was pick up & return to parking structure - a major problem at many historic areas of Italian cities. Only criticism is that breakfast quality was uneven. One day pastries were dry next fine. Coffee was far below general quality of the house and below quality of coffee at other comparable hotels.
