If I had to pick next two renovation projects, get another elevator operational and replace hallway carpets. So much good here but hard to overlook guest areas not aging well.

GREAT gym, as it is quite well-equipped for a hotel gym. The rest is okay or not that great. The hotel in general doesnt feel very clean, same for my room. And my room smelled like sewage.. And the wifi did not work! I stayed for 4 nights and it only semi-worked the first 24 hours.. and 5G is really bad inside hotel.

Excellent choice with a great roof top pool, but disappointing to learn that the pool bar is only open at weekends in September through to Summer 2025. September is still summer in Spain !

Cool hotel with a nice bar. My only complaint is the hot tub wasn’t hot and one night it was only half full so we couldn’t even use it. Staff was very friendly though.

Overall ok. The breakfast was terrible & extremely over priced at 17 euro. The outside pool was freezing & tiny. The Spa plunge pool (not an indoor pool as shown in pictures & advertised) was supposed to be free for 1 hour per day to guests, but because I could not find my confirmation (from Expedia) for this, it was 20 euros each per day for 1 hour. The shows were great but always very late & never on time with no other entertainment throughout the day. The pool bar opened at lunch time but again never opened on time.

Great location and extremely walkable. Everything I had planned was in walking distance. The breakfast was very underwhelming. I paid extra to include breakfast and it was not good. I love the workout and the gym area was not the best. The machines were old and rusted.

Excellent location in the Eixample district and easy to get to many of the hotspots. Great service from Ramiro & Andrea on check in. Room services were excellent and there was a lovely atmosphere in the hotel. Strongly recommend for LGBT travellers Sad that there was a charge to use the pool/spa which we didnt expect. The gym was great and part of the price.

Very disappointed in this hotel … first we could not get the door to work … ok they fixed it within 30 minutes so not bad … the next day when I asked for another towel there was only one in the room … I was told to go chase the cleaning crew and get one from her I said I was on my way out and ask if they could simply send them a message a hot a will grumpy look and finally the gym did not open till 10 am … a little late for my liking

Though we cannot fault the staff who were super helpful and pleasant, we felt the hotel looked quite shabby in places, including our bedroom which has broken and chipped floor tiles and the pool area which has seen better days. Considering we paid significantly more per night than the previous 4 star hotel we stayed in the week before, I found it a bit of a let down and not sure I would stay there again.

Very nice lobby and bar, friendly staff. Great location. But the rooms are terrible - badly laid out, shabby, and in desperate need of refurbishment. I stayed in both standard and premium rooms - both were of a poor standard.

The room (2nd floor) we were given had an old, mouldy smell. The walls are also very dirty and unpleasant. My partner and I decided to check out immediately. Though the area is convenient, I would not recommend until they improve.

We recently stayed at this hotel as a couple and found the experience to be a mix of positives and negatives. Positives: The location is absolutely perfect, making it very convenient for getting around. The front office staff were extremely friendly and helpful, always ready to assist with any questions or requests. Negatives: Unfortunately, the room conditions were disappointing. The bed was very old, I even felt a bedspring in the mattress, which was concerning. While the bathrooms were cleaner than the rest of the room, cleanliness overall still needs improvement. For instance, the cups in the room had coffee stains and weren’t replaced until we specifically mentioned it. The floors were also dirty, which made the room feel unkempt. Another issue was the poor sound insulation. Early in the morning, the housekeeping staff made a lot of noise in the corridor, and it was loud enough to disturb our sleep. Until these issues are addressed, we wouldn’t recommend this hotel for a comfortable stay.

The hotel is in a great area. However the air conditioning was not working. There were many other guests complaining about he same issue. The WIFI was a joke so to h. Wry unstable connection and quite slow. I believe that for the price charged a proper air conditioning and a working internet is a must

The staff are great and gave good recommendations. The rooftop patio is awesome with great views The roommates are super outdated. I kept saying to myself that I felt like I was duped. The hotel room felt like staying in a crumby American style road side motel. Like I feel the price I paid was literally just because the hotel is gay. Which is very nice don’t get me wrong. But in retrospect that was definitely not enough and I would have stayed somewhere better with the money I spent

We have stayed at Axel Hotel in Barcelona. The hotel is perfectly located, but the rooms are lacking proper AC and the beds are not very comfortable. Front desk does not respond to reported issues. The TV's are dated without offering a smart option. The experience was average.

Fantastic location in a lovely old building that's modernized inside. Good facilities and friendly staff. Stayed in a premium room, which was very nice, good size and two separate balconies which were very pretty - although the mattress was rock hard and uncomfortable. I asked for a mattress topper, but none was provided so I assume they don't have them. Toilet seat was broken, but fixed promptly when I reported it. Definitely avoid the breakfast. It was shockingly bad. A lot of food laid out in a buffet, but it didn't seem like any of the food was freshly cooked. I'm sorry I paid extra for it. Much better to eat in the many restaurants nearby. Would stay again at the right price.

Incredibly noisy. Especially that room on the second floor, where the balcony doors do not fully flush close. It is coming through it so much, especially at 1 am when garbage is collected. The shower was just weird and not really keen on this design and setup. Expensive for what it is.

Great location - the service and the room was well below what we had expected and experienced at other locations in Barcelona. The rooms AC would not work - the front desk would not look unit. They offered fan - not even a change of room. There was mold in out shower caulking and the curtains were half fallen off in our room. The housekeepers were AMAZING and the breakfast staff were lovely! The bar staff on the 7th floor were very slow. It took 28 minutes to get one drink on a Tuesday night. Deplorable. We paid nearly $500 for a horrible experience. I would like a refund for our stay.

Check-in was horrible!! Joaquin should never be allowed to work the front desk. He has no inter-personal skills (nada) and just seemed to be an angry person when dealing with guests. The property was well kept and very clean in a nice area close to restaurants and bars. It was within walking distance to Passeig De Gracia which is great for people on a shopping trip. And back to Joaquin - horrible staff person!!

If you’re thinking of staying here, don’t. Barcelona has better, cheaper hotels with much better service. Upon checking in, we were told one room would not be ready until 6pm, and my room smelt badly of smoke and was a double bed not the requested twin. I asked reception to change rooms and was told that it was not possible however they could do it the next morning, the manager Danny took note of this as well. This was frustrating but one night of a multi night stay would be tolerable. The next morning, reception said moving rooms would still not be possible, at this time the manager comes over and says they won’t move room and that it’s just unfortunate that the room smells of smoke. That afternoon we went to the pool, to be told they were out of towels and would not be getting any more. The same happened the next day as well. At 7.30 we went to have a drink on the roof, to be told that they were closing early, and to return to the cocktail bar at 8. At 8 the cocktail bar told us they were not ready to open. The location of the hotel is excellent but the service, room and staff are just not at the level that they should be for a hotel of this rating and price point.

I actually got sick and needed medical help, and they were great and went out of their way to pack my room and deliver essentials to me at the hospital. Also offered to come sit with me for company. Above and beyond in service. Highly recommend.

Axel is really well located close to Paseo de Gracia in the heart of the Eixample. As such it’s walking distance to great cafes, bars, restaurants and shops and close to many of the best tourist sites in Barcelona.

Amazing location and friendly staff. Felt very safe coming back to the hotel late at night after drinking. So many bars close by and awesome rooftop for nights you want to just stay close. Definitely will try and stay at more Axel hotels around the world

Gute Lage und trotzdem nicht zu laut. Sehr freundliches Personal. Super Pool und Sky Bar gut besucht mit grosser Dachterasse. Rundum sehr gut, haben das Axel bereits wieder gebucht für unseren Trip. einziger Nachteil, Aircondition funktionierte nicht korrekt und wir hatten keine 18 Grad im Zimmer, leider wurde es erst gegens Auschecken etwas angenehmer.

Axel Hotel Barcelona missed the mark on several levels, but for location it was spot on. An easy walk to many cafes, bars and attractions. Metro was just a few blocks away and can get you around town, but bring hand sanitizer, likely where picked up a funk. As for the hotel itself. Staff were friendly, willingly got taxis and handled luggage. We included the extra cost for breakfast. Lots of selections, pastries and fruit very good. The scrambled eggs were ice cold as were the other items in the food warmers. I am talking not even the least bit warm. Room service was offered and explained in the literature and by the front desk. There was no such service, the phone rang off the hook every time we tried. We are not used to paying premium price and have to sit on the floor to sort through our luggage or put dirty luggage on the bed. On the second day I asked for two luggage racks and the desk told me housekeeping would bing them at the next day’s cleaning. We returned the next day to a clean room and no rack. I complained and finally the following day one rack appeared. I gave up on getting a second rack. The advertisement for this place shows a sleek pool and hot tub. The pool was like an ice plunge bath and the hot tub was no way near warm and you could not activate the jets. I only utilized the gym once, it was basic and that’s all that’s needed but rust all over the equipment. I wouldn’t call it a gay hotel there were many friendly heterosexuals.

A wonderful place to stay. Central to restaurants, cafes, bars, shops, buses, metro, etc. The amenities are fairly basic but it’s an old building so don’t expect a fancy ultra modern facility. The staff was amazing and friendly. The only complaints would be that ordering room service didn’t work for me. The extension never picked up even when having the front desk transfer me. I was trying to get breakfast brought up because I was busy packing on my last morning. Even the front desk gave up and asked to take my order, but he didn’t know the menu so that was pointless and a failure. That morning front desk person was probably the only staff member I came across that wasn’t pleasant. But overall, this was a great stay and I will be returning for sure.
