Had a very lovely overnight stay at Malmaison. The staff were all great. Nice guy on reception. Exceptionally good bartender, who made wonderful cocktails. Waitress at breakfast was great. Overall a great experience. Great food and a perfect night stay. Reading gets more and more salubrious, but you just ignore that!

The hotel was clean, service staff excellent, restaurant excellent. However the lifts were only 1/2 functioning during our 3 night stay and on checkout both lifts were not functioning. We had to ask for help from the front desk as we were four flights up.

Location for train travel is good since it is across the street from train station. However, parking is non-existent and if returning a rental car, Europcar is located several miles away.

Parking at station carpark through underpass expensive but secure found police patrolling. Fantastic food just be away as well as leaving space for tip on bill they also add 15% service charge ! This was removed at checkout

Very nice hotel in central Reading close to station and restaurants. Fantastic staff who were friendly and very attentive. The only downside was there are no parking facilities so it was a long walk to the car

I have early stage arthritis in both hips and due to the customer lifts being out of order. Despite mentioning this to a member of staff at reception I had to struggle up three flights of stairs and the other stairs that were in place for five nights. On Tuesday evening one member of the reception staff accompanied me to the third floor in the staff lift but on all the other nights I had to struggle up the stairs as nobody seemed to be interested in helping me. I have therefore decided that I will not be using the Malmaison in future. I chose the hotel for its convenience to the train station due to my condition.

Air conditioning in the room did not function. It was much warmer in the room than in other parts of the hotel. Bathroom was disgusting, lots of moldy water damage. The shower was not accessible at all, with a very high step into the bath and no safety railings or anything to hold. Essentially you had to climb over the toilet to get in. Room was very noisy, and the common areas of the hotel were taken up with a function. Dining was not available and room service had only limited availability even though it was advertised as 24 hours. Room service menu had limited items as well, many things were not available. Location is good for the station, that's about all the positives I have.

I didn't find it clean. £200 a night fir a room gat had a fridge and you couldn't provide fresh milk, just that uht rubbish. Shower dirty. Stains on carpet. Windows dreadfully dirty

Used to be much better. Seen better days. Rooms felt dirty, smelled of awful cleaning product. Fabric headboard stank and you can't really open the windows. Bar and restaurant are redeeming features, but won't be back anytime soon.

It was *ok* at best. The location of this place is ideal for the train station, and to be honest, the breakfast service was incredible. However, where this place falls short is its facilities and check-in staff. Every room was mentioned to have air-con, to which none of the three rooms I accessed had working air con. I made the front desk aware of the first room being devoid of aircon, I was then taken back to the room and told to prove what the issue was (?). After being lead back down to the lobby with 2 heavy cases, the porter took me to a neighbouring room, which also had no aircon. A final room, had a working aircon panel to which I was promised it works. However, after collecting my bags from the front desk and settling in, this absolutely didn't work. However, I decided not to follow up on this, as the new room had a balcony that I could effectively just leave open to cool the oven down! I was offered no apology, no manners and treated like a guilty party until I quietened down. On top of this, the final room I was situated in looked tired. Rusted taps, dirty floors, filthy under the bed etc. Just not in great condition overall. My honest rating is probably around 6.4/10. Bed was comfy, and breakfast and service received at breakfast were the redeeming factors. Otherwise - shoddy at best.

Had room 205. Very small considering it was a Club Double. Couldn’t access the wardrobe due a concrete pillar. Very poor lighting. A little disappointing considering it’s a Malmaison

Stayed 1 night - good location, quiet + spacious room on the 2nd floor, was able to check in 3 hours early as room was ready when i came in to leave my bag in the luggage room. Decent breakfast, no complaints.

Room had only one bedside/table light, with a dodgy connection. This was fine as a single occupant who didn't want to use the desk anyways. Half the USB sockets didn't work either. Power sockets all very inconveniently positioned. Definitely not what I was expecting, given reputation and price, I was disappointed.

Parking n/a. Drink options good. I do not enjoy having a suite and not being able to crack a window open a little bit. I do not enjoy air conditioning. Also you should not have to pay for extra water. Extra water should be free of charge.

Junior suite is lovely! The view is of the street outside and shop so you can hear a bit of noise from passers by but really great room, lots of space and very comfy.

This was my 4th or 5th stay and while the service is excellent the hotel is showing either its age or neglect. Furniture in my room was worn, the bed was lumpy and the lighting way too muted. Think my next visit to Reading might require a new venue. All of that said the reception staff and the housekeeping staff were excellent/

My flight was delayed by almost 2 hours, any longer would have meant I would miss the last train from paddington to London, I called the reception and was put at ease by the person, I think it was Nick, reassured me there would be someone available to book me in. As promised, was met at reception, quick and easy check in, comfortable bed, it was a great night's sleep.

The room was generally clean, but there were a few signs that it hadn't been deep-cleaned for a while, plus there was only one plug socket i could use as the other two with the lamps plugged in were a weird round shape. The staff were friendly, but when I checked in, I was bombarded by a few upselling promotions, which I just found unnecessary and annoying after a long journey,

I would not return to this hotel. I slept at 4am as the noise levels both inside the hotel and outside were atrocious up to that time. I requested a toothbrush kit in the morning and was very rudely told that I would need to get up and get it myself from the vending machine on the ground floor. The room was very dark as well as the entire hotel, even hurt my leg on the loo roll holder as it is too close to the loo. There is no water in the room and shower handle was broken.

Stayed here for one night with my partner. She checked in before me, however, they charged her £103 at check in which she later messaged me about, however, I had already paid for the room. When she went to query this they refunded her, however were unapologetic. When I arrived I requested to understand what had happened to be told by a staff member it is not her fault and it was dealt with by another employee, again no apology. We travelled up to Reading as an overnight stay after watching England at Twickenham. Checked in online, and contacted reception in advance to see if we could leave our bags in the room at 1130. We travelled up to Reading as an overnight stay after watching England at Twickenham. Checked in online, and contacted reception in advance to see if we could leave our bags in the room at 1130. Nothing was too much trouble and the room was clean and welcoming. This is the second year in a row we have stayed here, and the accommodation a breakfast was top notch. This is a nice hotel; right opposite the station so quite noisy, and it’s not the loveliest bit of town. Had a suite which was nice, but the rainfall shower was poor; very low pressure and/furred up with limescale, so was more of a dribble than a shower!!

Stayed 1 night - good location, quiet + spacious room on the 2nd floor, was able to check in 3 hours early as room was ready when i came in to leave my bag in the luggage room. Decent breakfast, no complaints.

The team were great - very welcoming and helpful. The restaurant didn’t have a number of the options on the menu which was a shame but the food we did have was good. Rooms were comfortable although I’m not a fan of soft pillows (I didn’t ask if they had any others). Our room was also nice and quiet which was an added bonus given the central location (right next to the train station).

Always enjoy a stay at malmaison, suites are lovely and spacious, never stayed in standard rooms. Dinner options are relatively limited but there is always enough choice and the food doesn’t disappoint. Breakfast also good. Both continental and hot choices if you want to pay a little extra and all cooked fresh. Bar tends to be that little bit quieter on a Friday evening so preferable for us to a Saturday evening! Another great stay, we’ll definitely be back yet again soon.

Had a very lovely overnight stay at Malmaison. The staff were all great. Nice guy on reception. Exceptionally good bartender, who made wonderful cocktails. Waitress at breakfast was great. Overall a great experience. Great food and a perfect night stay. Reading gets more and more salubrious, but you just ignore that!

Air conditioning in the room did not function. It was much warmer in the room than in other parts of the hotel. Bathroom was disgusting, lots of moldy water damage. The shower was not accessible at all, with a very high step into the bath and no safety railings or anything to hold. Essentially you had to climb over the toilet to get in. Room was very noisy, and the common areas of the hotel were taken up with a function. Dining was not available and room service had only limited availability even though it was advertised as 24 hours. Room service menu had limited items as well, many things were not available. Location is good for the station, that's about all the positives I have.

Parking at station carpark through underpass expensive but secure found police patrolling. Fantastic food just be away as well as leaving space for tip on bill they also add 15% service charge ! This was removed at checkout

Every member of the team we met was excellent. Our room was comfortable and clean. Very enjoyable evening meal. All in all a very good visit.

Club room was a very comfortable room. We struggled with the pillows as they went a bit flat on us but the mattress was nice. There were Nespresso facilities with a variety of pods. The Ferrero Roche was a particularly nice touch. There was an iron, ironing board and kettle in the room. The TV is great with chromecast and freeview. The rate included breakfast which was incredible value for money. The food was delicious and the continental offering was superb. Really excellent value for money.

Aircon in room was broken, had been for days. Person on reception (afternoon) totally unhelpful and untruthful. Said they had tried to contact guests about aircon, said it was all rooms and said no rooms available to swap to. 1 - we had contacted hotel twice in lead up to visit to arrange early check-in, no mention of aircon issue - one of those contacts was morning of visit where we spoke to reception 2 - spoke to other guests, who had aircon 3 - on return to hotel after day out room remained unbearably hot, we asked again at reception, lady far more helpful, and voila, a new room that had working aircon

Very convenient location, right front of the station. Front is always staffed and provides sense of security especially at late hours. Interior has been renovated and look new, good amount of amenity. Bed was comfortable and shower ran smooth, and bathroom was big. Overall it was good value.

The first room they assigned to me had the aircon broken. Fortunately the recepionist was able to swap it with a much better one where the aircon was perfect. The rooms starting with 00 are much better and more refined than the others
