This hotel is like a low cost airliner, unfortunately without the low cost price tag. After check in I inquired about my luggage that had been sent from my previous hotel. It took the staff 10min to find out that my luggage had already been delivered to my room and the two times I suggested that the staff could come back to me later I was firmly instructed to wait. The hotel has clear signs of wear and tear, the safe deposit box in the room didn’t work upon arrival and the TV remote ran flat on the second day. Extra services costs money, like 6000yen for each entrance the pool per hotel guest and an additional 6000yen for a sun bed and an umbrella. The hotel believes that 3 life guards is necessary on duty for a small hotel pool, and no food or drinks is allowed outside the designated area so if you like to go and eat that’s one more admission cost. The hotel bar in the lobby took the last order at 22:30. Like with a low cost airliner you are put in your seat (place), you can expect nothing but the core product delivered (a room), you pay extra for any services (like the pool), and service stops in due time before landing (in your bed). Hotels.com should start differentiating between “pool included” and “pool available” like they do with breakfast.

Beautiful hotel, not too far from train and subway station, there’s also taxis available all the time and hotel provides shuttle. We were disappointed that using the pool came at additional cost and swimming cap using requirements - seems like a big hotel hosting international visitors all the time should be a bit more friendly to visitors from abroad.

Staff are friendly and helpful, 7-11 inside hotel is very convenient. Location is central, 5 minute walk to Shinagawa station, which connects to most major train lines. Note that it is a bit of a slope to walk between train and station, so maybe challenging with luggages, but they do offer free shuttle to Prince Hotel which is a short flat walk to the station.

Staff was great, service was pleasant and they went out of their way to help me with my concert tickets that arrived there prior to my check in date. But rooms are super outdated and we had broken air conditioning so room was getting hot we had to open the door to the balcony. The shower curtains are so weak they don’t keep the water inside, so when you shower you have to dry the floor. The fitness center was only equipped with 4 machines (2 old treadmills and 2 old bikes) the best part of the hotel was the Japanese garden at night. I don’t see myself staying here again. It’s a bummer because the location is super close to the shinagawa station.

I've stayed there every year past 10 years+. The location is good, within a walking distance from Shinagawa station, sade, and quiet. The property is dated. The rooms are are always kept clean, but it's just that fixture and furniture are old. The service is fine. I needed more dining options. I believe it's closing in 2026.

This is my favorite hotel in Japan. Whenever I'm in Tokyo, I make sure I can reserve a room here. It exudes so much atmosphere celebrating the country, especially the serene Main Bar Asama. There is a fully stocked 7/11 on the premises and buffet restaurant, in addition to other restaurants, that, while pricey, and absolutely delicious and well-attended.

Had to change rooms as the original one had dust so thick around the edges you could pick up with your fingers and the picture frame had a fur collar! The general condition away from the main areas is worn and seriously needs a refurb, torn papers on the walls in the corridors a prelude to your rooms condition. The gym is a joke! Two bikes and two treadmills! The pools are closed! ITS 35 DEGREES! Prices in bars and restaurants are extortionate and not exceptional. Best feature of the hotel is the convenience store in the basement, well stocked and well staffed.

This hotel is dirty, It’s a shame because the exterior is beautiful and it’s close to the train station. The carpet was dirty and the room look dated but even that is ok. I had to give it a 1 star because a roach crawled out of the drain as I was taking a shower. It was huge and disgusting!!! Japan in general is such a clean country so I was really taken back by this.

This hotel is not well maintained and has fallen into disrepair. I used to stay here when it was new but it’s now firmly in the Motel 6 category, despite the fancy entryway downstairs. From uncomfortable mattresses, to peeling off wallpaper in the rooms and hallways, to bathrooms that permanently smell of urine and have mold all around the perimeter - everything is in a state of decay. My favorite were curly black hairs of unknown origin stuck to the bathroom ceiling. Stay away if you have the money to afford a better option.

The shower was so messy and poorly designed (the water pressure was painfully hard - like a step further than massage mode), and the bathroom flooded due to a flimsy shower curtain. The carpet outside the bathroom felt like stepping on nails/staples, it was a weird metallic feeling - apart from that, the bedroom was very nice but I stayed in far cheaper hotels in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka with less stars that felt far more luxurious.

It could also be the high volume of travelers since this hotel is within 10 minutes walking to Shinagawa station. Pros: hotel was very clean. The staff was amazing and spoke English. Rooms were spacious, especially for Tokyo. Cons: the air conditioning in my room was super weak. It never got below 77f for my entire stay. This made the room uncomfortable to sleep in. Also the rooms were dated. Looks like they came from 2005.

Insufficient lighting in this hotel room. No bedside lights and no reading lights. Only overhead ceiling lights in the room. Prince Hotel Shin Tanakawa is located on a hill slope. For elderly or seniors, this hotel is not suitable to stay because of the location. From Shinagawa station, after crossing the street, hotel guests need to walk up the hill slope to reach the hotel. Too tiring for seniors, and definitely cannot walk up the slope with shopping bags or luggage. Need to take a cab. No wonder this hotel has a restaurant named the Slopeside restaurant!

I don't know if it is the trend in Japan, but may of the concierge services were self serve. Wanted to get Limo bus service: "here is the link fill it out please" Wanted to send luggage to the airport: "Here are the forms, please fill out" Wanted to make reservations at a resturaunt: They dialed to restaurant and handed me the phone to speak with someone who had no English ability. Came down to meet the bus with my luggage. Had to ask for help with my Bags. Not expected in Japan based on our previous experience. One thing they are good about is reminding us to pay half way though our stay because it was an extended stay.

I have status with Expedia and almost all hotels allow me early check-in. This time I arrived at 12:30 pm and the representative told me that check-in was at 3 pm. I asked to leave my bags and she told me to go to the concierge. I asked her to please mark that I had arrived because I was going to the city and didn't know what time I would be returning. She didn't want to even check the system and acted like she didn't understand. I had to use the translator and that's when she did the pre-check-in for me. When she looked at me she said, "The room is clean but I won't give it to you until 3 pm if you want it, pay." When I returned at night after pre-checking, I had to stand in line again to pay. And when I picked up my bags, no one offered help to carry them to the room or let me use one of the luggage carts. I had stayed here before but I had never encountered anything like this. Terrible , They only treat Japanese guests well . Very disappointing

Staff were amazing and accomodated our request for a quiet room. The Sliders Restaurant has the best breakfast buffet. There is a hotel guest discount, but you must apply for the Seibu Prince membership via QR code. No cost for the membership. Be prepared to walk up a gradual hill to get to the Shinagawa station. This was the trade off for a hotel away from the crowds.

The check-in process was unduly complicated by the staff's unwillingness to provide fundamental information, such as our floor and room number, which they responded to with irritation and frustration. On another occasion, we asked a different woman for help translating for our taxi driver to ensure we reached our destination, but she was initially uncooperative and dismissive. While the men were very helpful and kind to my sister and me, the women at the front desk and most of the concierge staff were also rude.

Staff at reception is the first contact point. Towards foreigner guest, the service is lacking due to language barrier as the understanding level is different. They tried to be patient towards listening to my needs and queries which I appreciate but the personal touch is not present compared to serving the Japanese guest. That is what I have observed. It is still a good service overall given the reputation of Japanese hospitality which is imprinted on internationally as one of the best. Room is spacious as chosen. Attention to details by housekeeping needs more improvement. Overall , it is a good stay. Location to station and amenities is closeby. Shuttle bus service to different drop off points around the compound is much appreciated. Thank you.

Netter Aufenthalt vor dem Rückflug. Shinagawa ist sehr gut ohne Umstieg mit dem Haneda Airport verbunden und bieten den maximalen Kompfort beim Start oder Ende eine Rundreise. Das Hotel ist riesig, die Zimmer kompfortabel, wie immer mit Schlafanzug und Badutensilien ausgestattet. Wie häufig in den Rezessionen gelesen schon etwas in die Jahre gekommen - stört aber nicht. My family and I stayed at the Grand Prince Shin for 8 days. We enjoyed the excellent service (reception, restaurants, front door staff, and cleaning crew). The rooms were outdated but had beautiful views of the city. The food was very good, though towards the expensive side. The seven eleven was very convenient. The gardens were beautiful as well, but I was surprised to see that we had to pay for the pools. The area is very convenient for Shiganawa station (subway and train). I will choose the hotel again if we come back to Tokyo.

I stayed here during my vacation in Tokyo and had a great experience. The staff were professional and welcoming. The location was very convenient close to Shinagawa Station and not far from Haneda Airport which made getting around easy. The room was clean and comfortable with excellent amenities. I especially appreciated the peaceful atmosphere and the Japanese newspaper delivered every morning. It was a perfect place to relax during my trip. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Tokyo. The only thing I wished for was more casual restaurant options within the hotel.

Breakfast was pricy, but definitely recommend trying at least once the Slope Cafe. Be wary it is a short walk from the train station, but there is an incline that could be difficult to the elderly. Staff was very nice and helped us celebrate our anniversaries!
