Old City Gem-Very Comfy Bed-Bakery Downstairs

My husband and I spent 4 nights in this apartment in early May. The apartment is as described by others. It is on a quiet side street (across from a library!) one block from the main shopping street. It is about a 15 minute walk from the train station. The pre check-in instructions were clear. I had a question for the host that was answered promptly via email. There is a need to traverse a circular stairway up 2 flights to get to the 2nd floor apartment. It is a restful apartment that is comfortably furnished. It appears to be in a very old structure. The kitchen and bathroom are down a 12 foot hallway from the living room and bedroom. I only encountered one other occupant in this hallway the entire 4 days. I highly recommend this apartment for those without mobility problems and with light luggage who do not mind the minor inconvenience of walking down the hall to the other half of the apartment.

Outstanding apartment with absolutely unique interior, especially the oven from the 18. century. Located in the heart of the city, absolutely quiet at night. Very well equipped kitchen. Access uncomplicated. Highly recommendable. Comes with free public transport in Bern.

I stayed here for 5 nights in October and it is one of the best VRBOs I have ever stayed at. The apartment is spacious, immaculate and you can really stretch out and feel like you are living in Old Town Bern. The location is centrally located and spectacular. It's an easy 10 minute walk from the main train station. You are in the heart of Old Town and the church bells ringing are enchanting. Plus the farmers' market on Saturday was out front on the street and stretched for several blocks. Such fun! Rob and Sara are incredibly responsive to any questions. I think the longest it took to hear back from them was about 4 minutes once. They provide very clear instructions on how things work in the apartment. The kitchen is nicely stocked with some basic ingredients, like spices and oils and vinegar, etc which is a real plus if you want to do any cooking. And the coffee machine makes the perfect espresso! The set up of the apartment is different than North American style as the kitchen and bathroom are across the central staircase. At first I thought this would be awkward and that I might run into another guest but that doesn't happen because the other guests are on a different floor. You might hear them below you in the hallway but you don't see them. Honestly the set up is a big nothing burger. I would definitely stay here again if I am back to Bern and I will certainly recommend it to any friends who are travelling there.

Loved it all... the apartment itself, the location, Bern, and surrounding area. A fantastic base for a holiday. The apartment has loads of character, and is very well equipped. We knew that Rob and Sara were contactable if needed, but this was not needed as everything well explained and straight forward. Easy access to shops, cafes and restaurants, galleries, and stunning views. Transport easy from airport, plus access to train station, and using local transport within Bern area. You can use your Bern pass (code will be provided for setting this up) to get from train station to apartment (just a couple of stops on no.12 towards the Zentrum - not particulary far but helpful if you have luggage. Would absolutely go back to same place and repeat it all again!

Place was quite unique, historic and close to a lot of great restaurants, attractions and trains . Laundry on main floor, pay via we wash app. (Took all morning to wash and dry:) Spiral Stairs going up are tight. Bed is comfortable. Good wifi and well stocked kitchen. More coffee would have been great as we didn’t know where to get more pods from , but you can grab espresso right across the street where there’s a lovely courtyard garden. Cathedral is a few min away. Go up the tower for a great view of city! Bern is a quaint and beautiful city, we had a great stay at this vrbo.

This is a lovely apartment in a charming part of Bern. Everything about the place is well-documented and easy to navigate. Very clean; hosts were communicative; we enjoyed our stay and would book again. The bathroom and kitchen are across the hall from the main living quarters, and the whole place is on the 2nd floor (no lift) -- so not for those who might have trouble with stairs or need easy access to the kitchen/bathroom at night. There is a luggage/laundry room on the main floor. Being able to stow luggage (like skis) is very convenient--but you need an app to use the laundry and it is 20 Swiss francs to do a load (!), so don't plan on using the laundry facilities. Bern is a world-class city and this is a charming place to stay while exploring it.

Apartment has labels throughout with helpful instructions (how to use the dishwasher, a reminder to close the windows, etc.). Well stocked kitchen in terms of utensils and pantry basics. It was nice to have laundry on site—there is no laundromat in Bern. Cost was 6CHF to wash and another 6 CHF to dry. Would definitely stay here again!

This was my first time to the city of Bern and this property could not have been more perfect. The location is right in old town and we were able to easily walk to the attractions within Old Town. It’s convenient to Tram Stops and having the Bern Ticket provided by Rob and Sara made it very easy to venture outside of Old Town.The apartment is very spacious. The kitchen has everything you need. We used it everyday for our morning coffee and one of our meals. The layout is different than other properties I’ve stayed at in the past, but recognizing that this apartment is in a building that has historical significance only makes it more charming. We truly appreciated how well-kept and maintained this historical property was.The instructions and communications provided by Rob and Sara are very clear and they are very quick to respond to any questions or concerns you have.I would definitely stay here again if I find I have the grand opportunity to return to Bern someday.

We enjoyed our time at Rob and Sarah’s apartment. Right off the Zytglogge tram stop in the heart of Bern. Apartment was spacious and clean. Note it is on the 2nd floor (3rd floor to Americans) up a spiral staircase- no elevator.

We were within walking distance to all the main attractions, yet enjoyed a peaceful and quiet stay. Our host was exceptional, warm, attentive, and welcoming. He provided us with valuable insights and recommendations for exploring Bern, making our stay even more enjoyable. His attention to detail and thoughtful touches made us feel right at home. The apartment was clean, close to the old town section of Bern and the hostess was always available to answer any questions.

Appartement au 2ème étage d'un petit immeuble de 3 étages très bien entretenu et très bien situé au coeur de la vieille ville, à 2 pas de la Zytglogge. Propreté impeccable, tout l'ameublement nécessaire pour un séjour confortable. Seul bémol (pas négligeable pour tous) : l'appartement est divisé en 2 parties, salon et chambre d'un côté, et cuisine, salle de bains et toilettes de l'autre côté du palier, qu'il faut donc traverser à chaque fois qu'on a besoin d'y aller (même en pleine nuit...). Et la porte côté cuisine/sdb/wc ne ferme pas à clé. Ca surprend au début, mais on s'y fait, chaque locataire ayant joué le jeu - grand calme à tous les étages. Pour le reste, c'était vraiment parfait. L'appartement est calme, bien que près de rues passantes, on n'entend que la cloche du Zytglogge. La cuisine a tout ce qu'il faut, y compris une petite table suffisante pour 3 personnes. Et la sdb bien que petite convient sans problème. Rob et Sara répondent très rapidement et clairement à toutes les questions avant et pendant le séjour. Il y a une bonne boulangerie en bas de l'immeuble d'à côté ; un marché alimentaire très sympa dans le rue le samedi matin ; des petits supermarchés dans la rue derrière. Et un super petit musée des instruments de musique (Klingendes Museum) également dans la rue derrière, qui vaut le coup (on a même le droit de tester certains instruments, dont le fameux Cor des Alpes !)

The apartment was very clean and neat. Rob and Sara are great hosts and responded quickly to requests and questions. They take great pride in their property. We did not fully understand the layout of the apartment when we booked (now there is a floor plan added). The access to the nice bathroom and lovely kitchen is by exiting the bedroom/living room, walking across a hallway (that has access to upper apartment and lower hallway) into a separate door. These rooms are only occupied by the guests who rent the apartment so in that since they are private. Once we got used to that layout, we were fine, it was just a surprise. However, this apartment in the charming 500 year old building has been lovingly updated, is spacious and very comfortable. We will definitely request to stay again when we are back in Bern. Absolutely the best location if you want to be surrounded by activity and in a gorgeous, historical setting!!! But quiet for as much activity is going on outside. The apartment is comfortable, very clean and kitchen adequately stocked. Rob and Sara were very gracious and helpful hosts and very quick to respond. Would stay here again without hesitation!!!

It's really cool to stay in this 500 year old property in the middle of the medieval old town. Big windows let in light and the music from buskers. Step outside to the wonderful arcades filled with shops, restaurants, and artisans. One block to the clock. Walking distance to all the museums. Market right out the front door on Saturday. Great bakery next door. We used the modern kitchen a lot, and took advantage of the great neighborhood. Highly recommended!

I cannot say enough good things about my stay in Bern. We stayed one full week and this apartment was exactly what we were looking for. We were able to immerse ourselves in the Bern culture. We ate fresh pastries from the bakery that is two doors down every morning. We had dinner on the sidewalk side by side with the locals every evening. You can see people chatting on benches on the sidewalk eating a sandwich and drinking a beer on their lunch break.There is lots to see and do in the area and we felt safe and secure during our visit. There is even a park within walking distance where people walk on slack lines over the river and practice juggling. I asked someone if the circus was in town, but they said that is just a normal lazy sunny afternoon in Bern!Sara and Rob are perfect hosts. They are there, but not in your face. They are very responsive if you need anything and will give great recommendations if you have questions about the area.Our stay was perfect and I highly recommend this apartment to anyone that wants to experience Bern.

Bern is a beautiful city with wonderful attractions, restaurants and shops. This location was in a perfect location and lent itself very well to walking everywhere. Including the train station. We loved our ten-days-stay in this beautiful apartment that quickly felt like home for us! The location is unbeatable, close to the central station, in the middle of old town, Bärengraben, Zytglogge, theatre, … all within walking distance. And living in the old rooms feels like time travelling. Sara and Rob have been super friendly and the perfect hosts!
