Hotel Gletschergarten

A beautiful property owned by one family for four generations and lovingly cared for. Attention to detail is apparent everywhere from the high quality meals, the spa, the traditional Swiss decor and the many sitting rooms with comfortable furniture, fireplaces, comfortable beds, washer dryer for guests, a game room, and more. Our room had a wraparound balcony with views of the of the Eiger and snow covered mountains. The hotel is well located near lifts and transportation and a short walk to many restaurants, shops and the sports center. Gary and Gabriela were always available and delightful. We will definitely stay here again.

This was everything we had hoped for and more! We booked a superior double room. It was spacious and had two large single beds pushed together. Our room had chairs for seating and the bathroom was big enough with updated facilities. The shower was also nicely sized (vs the standard ‘cruise ship’ style tubes usually found in Europe). There was a large balcony with two seats and a table. Absolute win. Did our room happen to be lucky enough to have a view of mountains? No, but I do believe that was an upgraded pricier option. Fair enough. A huge win for us was the laundry facilities. There was a full size washer and dryer!! You will need Franc coins for this and those can be obtained from the front desk. Every person who served at the desk here was so incredibly pleasant and helpful. We purchased lift tickets here and also received good advice for hiking. The breakfast here was outstanding and we took advantage both mornings of our stay. The young ladies working here were so nice. There was standard ‘continental breakfast’ foods and they served coffee/cappuccino. The views from the sunroom where we ate were breathtaking. A final perk was the location. The hotel was about 20 steps beyond the restaurants and busy section of Grindewald. We easily walked to town to enjoy dinner and reached the cable car to Grindewald First in 5 minutes. Do I wish this location had ac? Yes. But would it stop me from recommending or returning? Absolutely not. I would return in a heartbeat.

We stayed in summer. Hotel is outside of town a bit but on a main drag (where busses go by occasionally - which seems to be sort of normal for this town.) Walkable - 10-15 mns to town center. Bar was welcomed and balconies were a nice plus. Amenities were adequate but not amazing.

We enjoyed our stay very much. The room was charming and very clean with a balcony looking toward the beautiful Alps!! We were welcomed by the owners and provided with helpful tips on how to experience the Alps from Grindlewald. We ate a dinner and a breakfast at the hotel with excellent service and very nice menu choices. Parking was also available, free, and convenient.

The setting is unbelievable, like all hotels in Grindelwald. Our room opened onto a spacious patio with amazing views. The room itself was fine, nothing remarkable about it. During a September visit, we would have liked to have utilized the sauna but we were told it was only open on request during the "summer months." We would have preferred to stay somewhere with more amenities such as a pool or hot tub but we had a pleasant 1-night stay here nonetheless.

I’m glad the location was within a 8 min walk of 2 cable cars. Parking was convenient when available as well.

I thorougly enjoyed my three nights at Hotel Gletschergarten. It was clean, quiet, cozy, and convenient to restaurants, bus stops, the train station, and all the gondola lifts. The management team gets five stars for their hospitality.

Room is clean and huge. Television is pretty new and large. The view from the balcony is great and balcony is massive. Bed is one of the best in all the hotel we have stayed. very convenient spot and quiet. The breakfast has the most options to choose from and I am missing it already. The only one downside that could be improved is the shower is weak and the hot water is kind of inconsistent. But I found it quite a typical problem in swiss hotel in general. But overall highly recommend! Just look at my photos. It is worth it!

I love family owned restaurants and hotels as they carry a legacy and this place just ticked all the boxes. Recently renovated with an amazing bathroom, great amenities and clean space to live. Bed was super comfortable. So accessible to the public transport, with options to park if needed. The entire staff was so helpful, always there to guide us. Helped me save money on passes and stuff by giving options. Would stay again when I visit next!

This was a very cozy hotel. It was clean with a great breakfast and you could easily walk into town. We loved having our own little balcony with a table and chairs to enjoy the view.

The towels are so old that they are almost brown.

The room had a lovely and spacious balcony, with a perfect view of the mountains. The staff was very welcoming and helpfull, and served the best breakfast you could ever ask for. We stayed near the end of September. Since there is no A/C (which we knew in advance), we opened the windows. Unfortunately, this allows mosquitoes and flies in the room. The breakfast, while nice, was the same as any other continental breakfast we had in Switzerland. The bathroom had been nicely remodeled but the rest of the room was very tired and in need of refurbishment. The location was excellent, clean, easy to get a bus into town or train station and very quiet. The view from the dining area was spectacular. Even the back of the hotel (not toward the mountains) where our room was located was very pleasant. Unlike every other place we stayed in Switzerland, the room was not equipped with a mini-fridge.

Everything was perfect! The breakfast is delicious, our room was spotless, and the location was perfect! We will definitely stay here again!

The room’s view is incredible! Dinner was good but we were surprised by the price, which was not mentioned when we ordered it. The towels were old and dingy, time to change them! Many bugs flew into the bathroom at night. The bathroom sink doesn’t drain well.

For what I paid the room was tiny. There is hardly space to put anything anywhere. Room was hot in the evening. Wanted to go out to the balcony and smokers in the next two rooms prevented me from doing so. Shower only has shampoo no soap. Asked for some ice, I was told it is only for the restaurant guest. Stayed two days. First breakfast at the cereal bar the milk looked funky and it smelled. I asked the lady there and she initially said it’s OK but then when I showed she realized it was not (it was half way to yogurt) and changed it. The young help staff at the breakfast were friendly. BTW my bed sheets were worn out and had two holes.

Old world charm. Very good condition. Delicious breakfasts. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We did visit at a time when the weather was much hotter than usual and there was no A/C. Which made for uncomfortable nights, but the whole town had the same problem. We would stay here again.

It was a near perfect location for our five person Family. I preferred this location because it’s quieter, and it would be impossible to find a better view than the one from our hotel balcony. Recently remodeled room was the size of a small apartment with a massive wrap around balcony. We are definitely coming back and we found the staff to be very gracious and welcoming.

Simple a perfect traditional hotel with great owners and spectacular views

Only downside was a noisy bathroom fan that didn’t go off for a few minutes but when the door was closed you could barely hear it. A really nice place to stay and less than a 5 minute walk to Grindelwald First, which was amazing!

The owners were extremely knowledgeable and helpful concerning the local area. They were also able to print out any passes we needed for all the local lifts, trains, etc. Wonderful accommodations! We loved the authenticity of the hotel and the views of the Alps were spectacular. Very convenient location!! Clean, cozy and comfy! We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

This was our third visit to one of our favorite of all places we have ever visited. Everything is excellent from the stunning narural beauty of Switzerland to the warmth and friendliness of our hosts!

The breakfast was wonderful and service exceptional. If you stay here, please be sure and take the path behind the hotel. Views are breath taking. Convenient location, 15 mins walk from Grindelwald Station and across bus stop. Nicely anointed rooms and 5 star breakfast buffet.

Loved the early check-in. My room had an amazing view. It is walkable, but may be a little rough for some. About a 7 minute walk to the gondola stop.

駅からは12分位歩きますが、それ程大変ではありません。 チェックインすると、村内のバスのチケットをメールでくれたので、フィルストのゴンドラ乗り場、グリンデルワルド駅、アイガーエクスプレスの乗り場のターミナル駅迄のバスに無料で乗れます。(30分に１本位)。 バス停はホテルの直ぐ前で、駅迄３分、ターミナル迄も７分位 駅迄歩き、ターミナル迄1駅列車に乗る事なく、ホテル前から直接行けて便利でした。 外観もスイスらしいシャレーでお花が綺麗で、お部屋も思ったより狭くなく、テラスが広くて、教会の塔と山がちょっと見えます。(テラスは隣の部屋と繋がっています。) バスタブは深めでシャワーも使い易いです。 (ボディソープとシャンプーは一体型) 朝食は、パンやシリアル、ハムやチーズ、フルーツ、ヨーグルト全部美味しかったです。茹で卵は、茹で加減を聞いてくださり、熱々の半熟卵が出てきます。 チェックアウト後も荷物を預かってくれて、最後駅には、バスで行けて、とても良かったです。

Hotel Gletschergarten is the absolute Swiss experience located at the edge of town beneath the beautiful alps. As it is family owned , four generations, husband and wife are hands on daily with staff so everything works like clockwork. Continental breakfast is enjoyed with a spectacular morning view. Wonderful relaxing atmosphere and pleasant staff. Perfect location at the far end of the Main Street, quiet but accessible. Dinner is highly recommended and a good value. Grindelwald museum across the street has unique history of the area and mountaineering activities. I would stay here again.
